2012 Hyundai Sonata Brakes Problems

While driving at 70 MPH, your brake warning light came on along with a hybrid system warning message, and your car entered limp mode (reduced power mode). The part of hand break assembly that’s inside the disk break (the drum assembly) fell off when the dealer ( [XXX] Hyundai, Schaumburg, IL) tried to adjusted. I went to the dealer because the hand break stop to function. I suspect very bad design of the whole assembly disk and drum break. Also the dealer stated that all assembly was rusted. Unknown Cought fire under the hood was engulfed within minutes

In October of 2023, I was driving my 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid to the laundry mat about a quarter of a mile from my home. I stopped at a stop light and all of a sudden, a warning sound burst from my dasher board. The message stated, "Hybrid Warning-DO NOT DRIVE: CHECK BRAKES". The brakes completely stopped working, the pedal was to the floor and the accelerator was stalling. After managing to get the vehicle back to my home, naturally I went to the Dealership (Langdale Hyundai of Valdosta) and informed them of the issue. They informed me there was no issue, charged me for a diagnostic and sent me on my way. Once I provided proof of my car stopping mid-drive, they began to check wiring and such. What they told me the issue was is a Hydraulic Power Unit. I had it replaced, still the same issue "CHECK BRAKES". I only have 116k miles on this car, bought it with 72K in 2021, so I haven't driven it much. It spent 8 months in Hyundai Dealership in Holiday, FL for a brand-new Hybrid Battery in 2022. I have been looking online for anyone that knows more about this issue so I can get it resolved. It turns out there are thousands of people who are just like me. I believe this is indeed a recall issue. I believe this is an issue is an emergency issue, brakes giving out while driving is an issue that needs to be addressed. This has been happening for years, and Hyundai has not done one thing on it. It's happening with newer vehicles as well as older. Langdale Hyundai of Valdosta was not much of a help at all, to be honest, I don't trust their workers at all. I believe they do nothing and charge customers for the max that they can.

ACTIVE HYDRAULIC BOOSTER failed while driving. 2012 with 114,000 miles on it. Brand new engine and transmission installed from prior recalls. Hyundai dealership said it was covered under anything and would cost $5K to get fixed.

The grid warning light is coming on and telling me to stop the car. When this occurs the car will lose power and the brakes will start making a grinding noise. My safety was at risk when I was driving on [XXX], Chula Vista, California by Southwestern Community College approaching behind cars at a red light intersection on the second lane to the right going east and the warning light came on. The car started making a grinding noise and to lose power. The intersection was busy and I was barely able to get the vehicle to the right lane to get out of the way of traffic going east. I was blocking the right turn lane onto [XXX] in Chula Vista, Ca I took the vehicle to the dealer and has been confirmed. It first appeared approximately in July / August of 2023. I believe this is the same issue as the Hyundai recall #170 (activation of the engine management system's brake pedal override feature). While pressing the accelerator, my car will stop accelerating until I let off the gas pedal and then press it again. This is an intermittent issue and unrelated to any fuel delivery system. I confirmed it was a brake pedal issue because my brake lights would not turn off and I could shift out of Park WITHOUT my foot being on the brake pedal. I feel like this could be a pretty big issue for properly signally drivers behind me as well as when I’m trying to drive in heavy or speedy traffic, e.g., merging onto or within interstate traffic.

Emergency brake started engaging while the car is in motion. Usually, 10-15 minutes after starting the car. We were told the hydraulik brake booster pump needs to be replaced. The car is at only 60K miles.

The car has been meticulously maintained — I am glad to provide all records of regular service upon request — and lovingly cared for. It came to us in great shape. Until, that is, I drove it for the first time and the brakes failed. I rolled into an intersection. Luckily, there was no traffic and no one was harmed. But I had a very helpless feeling, and I feel incredibly grateful no one was hurt. After taking the vehicle to two mechanics, they independently confirmed that a sensor in the ABS module was failing, leading to a sudden loss of braking. After a cursory internet search, I found that many owners of this model and year of vehicle have encountered this dangerous problem.

while i was driving after picking up my daughters from school the car start giving me a hybrid system warning and a brake message on the dash with brakes not working properly so i stop and get the car tow to my mechanic it was scary since i have my 2 daughter with me my mechanic said the problem is the HECU AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT he tell me there is a recall #251 I call the dealer but they said only cover a fuse no the actual defected part that doesn't make sense I seen a lot of complain of this part going bad hopefully Hyundai do something to make right and fix the actual problem and dont put life on risk like happen to me and my daughters

Brake light appeared intermittently while I'm in the middle of traffic.my vehicle's hybrid system warning light came on aside from the brake light and tells me to pull over and not to drive the vehicle.i towed my car to the dealership for inspection.after inspection done ,the service advisor tells me that they need to change the abs module due to possible internal leaking besides the fuse.they quoted me $3574.71 to fix the abs module excluding other brake components.i asked them to change the fuse only.Abs problem and brake light are still on and vehicle is not drivable.

Hyundai states this vehicle may catch fire while parked or while driving. They have advised not parking inside due to fire risk. We do not feel safe driving the vehicle any more than on local low speed city streets, as it might be impossible to safely pull over should it catch fire while driving at high speeds on a highway. We have been waiting months for Hyundai to fix this, cannot get a straight answer as to when that will happen. They have refused to provide a loaner or rental car, so we are currently stuck with a car that is close to completely useless and apparently presents a fire hazard even while sitting in our driveway. Can NHTSA assist?

How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I lost complete control of braking when the alarm went off, the brake pedal went to the floor, made a grinding sound, was driving at a slow speed and able to pull over and stop the car. Turned car of and turned back on alert went away, slowing started driving and alert returned and loss of brake Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Car is currently at a Hyundai dealership being evaluated, they are unable to reproduce error as of today 1/26/2024 Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not as of today. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? 1/24/2024 this was the 1st time this error occured.

Several times a week I get "Hybrid System Warning. Check Brakes" that comes with red flashing light on the dash and beeping noise. When I turn the car off, give it a few seconds and restart the car, it goes away. It has mostly been happening when I am parked so it is not an issue to shut it off and restart. Two days ago, this happened while I have driving on the street and when I applied the brakes, it went down to the floor with grinding noise. I was going about 35 MPH and no cars in front of me so I was able to come to a stop on the street with hazards on. I turned off the car, restarted it and the issue went away. I have researched this online and it looks like many people are having the same issue. Many have taken their vehicle to the dealer to get the issue fixed and the dealer is unable to fix the issue because they cannot recreate the problem. I am afraid that this might lead into an accident and feel like something that Hyundai should do a recall on.

Alarm started and Hybrid brake check warning instructed to pull over and do not drive. This happened while driving down the road. The car lost power and would not accelerate. The brakes were gone and were making a grinding noise.

Illumination of the malfunction indicator lamp and/or ABS (Anti-lock brake system) light. My 2012 Sonata Hybrid has been towed twice to Key Hyundai dealer in Jacksonville, FL. They charged me several thousand dollars and the vehicle ABS lamp remains illuminated. The dealership did not offer me alternative transportation and I feel unsafe driving the vehicle. On Friday November 12th they blamed the brake lamp illumination on the Hybrid main battery and gave me an estimate of $12,900.00 to replace the battery. The first time I took the vehicle in for this problem my vehicle was still under 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. My car has approximately only 35,000 miles driven. They did not honor the warranty. This is a brake issue not a battery issue.

Brake light is stuck on

While driving with foot on accelerator, acceleration/ current speed will randomly just stop. 1-1- Once i fully release the accelerator and then reengage the accelerator problem goes away. This is very random as to when it happens, and will happen multiple times in a row some times... and other times happens once and doesn't the rest of the trip. This seems to be more amplified occurrences when it is cold. 2- Safety is put at risk. 3- Not gone to dealer yet. 4- No inspection yet. 5- No warning messages.

Vehicle doesn’t stop hard pedal and brake light came on 144k

Driving on freeway and traction control light came on and stays on. Then my car stalls. Additionally, I awakened at 6 am to find my breaks light had been on most the night at no fault of mine. I checked my vin# and being told my 2012 sonata is not part of the recall campaign 136. This is a danger to my life and Hyundai is refusing to correct the problem at their cost.

My 2012 Hyundai Sonata, build date 10/31/2011, experienced the exact issue as described in NHTSA campaign number 15V759000. Note that the campaign covers Sonatas built before my vehicle's build date. The brake pedal stopper pad deteriorated and resulted in the brake lights falsely illuminating at random times. Furthermore, the condition - when occurring - resulted in the car overriding any throttle inputs, making for random inability to provide throttle inputs.

"Hybrid system warning, stop safely and do not drive" and "check brake" alarm. Car immediately went into limp mode (15mph top speed). Luckily, I was not on the highway, but on residential street. Alarm was not recoverable by restarting car. Dealer says its the hydraulic brake booster and will cost $3250 to fix. Vehicle at 80,000 miles.

The brakes lights (all three) wont shut off even when the vehicle is not on.

About 1 month after I bought this vehicle, late December 2021, a warning light came on the hybrid screen, it read "Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop And Do Not Drive!" The accelerator was not working I pulled over and turned the vehicle off. I waited a couple minutes and restarted it up again and went on my merry way. About a month later it happened again!! It's happened about every 5 weeks until June 16th at about 5pm, it now permanently chimes and beeps with the Hybrid screen warning me of the same, my foot brake goes to the bottom and makes a grinding noise. I am not able to drive it more than 100 yards or so then the accelerator fails again. I owned a mechanic shop and I know my brakes are fine, there has to be something wrong with the brake pumps/master cylinder, the brake fluid reservoir is full and the brakes electrical components make a horrible noise when I depress the foot pedal, I've read on Hyundai Forum on-line, that this has happened to various others, its happened on the freeway while I was going about 70mph!! It's happened on busy city streets with 45mph speed limits. Hyundai doesn't want to take any responsibility for it! What can I do? The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where they found no fault with the vehicle. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the dealer on multiple occasions where software updates were performed and rotors were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact had also taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic and the driver’s side rear brake caliper piston was replaced; however, the repair did not correct the failure. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

At 28,000 miles the ABH pressure sensor failed c1237 Hydraulic Power Unit. Dealership charged $2947.95 for the repair. $2141.55 just for the part. The brakes completely failed and the car required towing.

After driving one day, I noticed the brake lights on without anybody in the car, they would not turn off whatever I tried. The next symptom was the traction control turned off and would not function via dashboard button. the next symptom was, while driving, cruise control turned on without myself doing so, set it's speed and maintained, I was approaching a 4 way stop and depressed the brake expecting cruise control to disengage, it did not, I pressed the brake again this time holding it down while the car continued to revv, the engine continuing to attempt to speed up while pressing the brake. The only thing stopping the car was the on and off button on the steering wheel. I finally came to a screeching halt half way into the intersection, the brakes were locked up and vehicle would not move, the dealership claims no responsibility in anything and blames it in fact on myself putting the wrong brake fluid into the vehicle. I had not put anything into the vehicle, the dealership was the last to touch it when they did a complete engine replacement in Jan 2021. Vehicle is currently in their possession and available for inspection. No warning lights came on and vehicle began to function normally after, and I have not driven it since. I do not feel safe any longer in the vehicle. Dealership wants me to pay for all new brakes, rotors, brake light switch and brake flush, all which I feel is dancing around the real issue of the brakes and the cruise control. This is a real serious safety issue to anyone with this same vehicle and the potential for a serious possibly fatal accident, dealership doesn't seem to think it's a serious issue, and instructed me to drive the vehicle home, I did not!!!!!

When driving the “Check Brake” warning comes out and the brakes hit the tires allowing for minimal movement of the vehicle. Right after that, a “Hybrid System Warning - Safely Stop and Do Not Drive” comes up. At times, The warnings will continue for days or hours and other times, imthey would just disappear. When bringing the car to the dealer they wouldn’t be able to understand the issue as the warnings suddenly disappear and they would just start guess-repairing the car which can be extremely expensive for us the consumers

BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH GRINDING NOISE. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE.

STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, GEAR IN DRIVE AND THE BRAKE DEPRESSED, BUT THE ENGINE STARTED TO REV AND LURCH FORWARD--WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE. MOVED FORWARD A COUPLE OF FEET WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE FOOT BRAKE BUT FINALLY CAME TO A STOP ON ITS OWN.

A WARNING KEEPS HAPPENING WITH NO CODES IT SAYS TO CHECK BRAKES AND PULL OVER I CAN ONLY GO ABOUT 15 MILES AN HOUR AND THE BRAKES PEDAL HAS A WEIRD GRINDING NOISE LIKE IT'S SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ABS SYSTEM IT IS VERY SCARY AND IT DOES IT INTERMITTENTLY

THE VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN ON ITS OWN AND WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO REV UP EVEN WHEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL DOWN. ALSO THE LIGHT FOR TRACTION CONTROL TURNS ON AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT WHETHER THE CAR IS ON OR OFF.

THE CATALYST CONVERSION IS NOT WORKING RIGHT I HAVE CHANGE IT AND IT STILL HAVE GAS SMELLS COME INTO THE CAR.

COULD NOT START CAR PARKED IN THE GARAGE, AND FAULT DRAINED BATTERY. WARNING LIGHTS SAID DO NOT OPERATE CAR HYBRID SYSTEM NOT FUNCTIONING. HAVE CAR TOWED. ALSO HAD BRAKE WARING LIGHT LIGHT UP ON DASH. HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED. GOOD THING THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHEN DRIVING BUT WHEN TRYING TO START THE CAR. DEALER REPORTED THAT ABS MODULE FAILED. 57,200 MILES ON VEHICLE. REPAIR COST ESTIMATE IS OVER $3,200.

THE BRAKE LIGHTS KEEP BURNING OUT EVERY COUPLE MONTHS. YOU CAN CHECK FROM MY VIN THAT I HAVE ONLY SERVICED FROM LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP SINCE I BOUGHT IT FROM THEM. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND THIS PROBLEM IS AFFECTING MANY HYUNDAI MODELS. BASICALLY, THE BRAKE LIGHT SOCKET IS SO HOT THAT IT BURNS AND MELTS THE LIGHT BULB. THIS IS REALLY A FIRE HAZARD. WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL YET ON THIS PROBLEM? OVER THE PAST YEAR, I HAVE REPLACED MY LIGHT BULBS LIKE 4 OR 5 TIMES. PLEASE TAKE A LOOK INTO THIS. IT WILL SAVE A LOTS OF PEOPLE

WHEN DRIVING THE CAR MAKES AN AWFUL BEEPING NOISE AND SAYS HYBRID SYSTEM MALFUNCTION SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE AND THE BRAKE LIGHT IS ON IN THE DASH. WHILE ALL BRAKE FUNCTION IS SUDDENLY GONE AND I HAVE TO STOP WITH THE E-BRAKE. THIS HAPPENED BOTH ON THE CITY STREETS COUNTRY HIGHWAYS AND FREEWAYS AT RANDOM TIMES. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE HYDROLIC BRAKE PUMP. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE NOVEMBER.

LOUD BEEPING ALARM GOES OFF, THE POWER BEHIND THE GAS PEDAL STARTS TO DECREASE AND BREAKS START TO MAKE A TERRIBLE GRINDING SOUND. THE SCREEN SAYS TO STOP SO I HAVE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. EVEN AFTER I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON THE YELLOW '(!)' SIGN WAS STILL FLASHING AND THE BEEPING ALARM STARTED AGAIN. THE SCREEN SAYS 'HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING...' THEN CHANGES TO 'CHECK BRAKES'. THE RED EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT IS ON CONSTANTLY. IT HAS DONE THIS 3 TIMES IN PAST 4 DAYS.

I NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE STILL ON AFTER THE CAR WAS PARKED AND TURNED OFF IN THE GARAGE. ON FURTHER INSPECTION THE BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH STOPPER HAD DISINTEGRATED AND WAS NO LONGER DEPRESSING THE SWITCH. THE VEHICLE COULD SHIFT OUT OF GEAR WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE. I DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL THIS WAS REPAIRED. THIS WAS SUPPOSEDLY REPLACED IN 2016 UNDER A RECALL FOR A SIMILAR FAILURE. I DROVE A SEPARATE VEHICLE TO OBTAIN A REPLACEMENT PART AND THE PROBLEM IS NOW FIXED. THERE WAS NO WARNING BEFORE FAILURE.

WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN SEPTEMBER OF 2020 I NOTICED EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE WHEN I PUSH ON THE BRAKE THE BRAKE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THE PANEL FELT VERY SPONGY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY FIX THE LIGHT THEY TOLD ME THE BRAKE PEDAL FEEL WAS NORMAL. BUT KIA AND HYUNDAI HAVE A RECALL OUT RIGHT NOW IT DOES NOT COVER MY CAR BUT FROM WHAT I'VE READ OF THE RECALL IT SOUNDS LIKE THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING TO MY CAR. THE PEDAL FEELS VERY SPONGY IT ALWAYS FEELS LIKE IT'S GOING DOWN TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN YOU PRESS THE BRAKE

THE BRAKE PEDAL DOSNT RETRACT AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS DON'T WORK AND THIS CONDITION DRAINS THE BATTERY AT NIGHT WHILE IT'S PARKED. *TR

BRAKE LIGHTS WILL NOT TURN OFF, CAUSING OTHER DRIVERS TO THINK I HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES. ALSO, THEY DO NOT TURN OFF AFTER I PARK THE CAR AND REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. I HAVE LOOKED THIS UP AND IT IS A MAJOR COMPLAINT, BUT NO RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. THERE WAS A RECALL IN JAN OF 2016, BUT NOT ON MY CAR. IT WAS FOR THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH PLUNGER. *TR

UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE I RECEIVED A LOUD CHIME AND A WARNING ON THE SMALL SCREEN ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INDICATING A BRAKE FAILURE, AND THAT I SHOULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THERE WAS A VERY LOUD GRINDING AND CHATTERING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. THERE WAS ALMOST NO BRAKING ACTION. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT. THE SAME SYMPTOMS OCCURRED. I THEN CHECKED OUTSIDE OF THE CAR FOR LEAKING FLUID. THERE WAS NONE. I OPENED THE HOOD AND INSPECTED THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR AND FOUND IT APPROXIMATELY 3/4 FULL OF BRAKE FLUID. I WIGGLED THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS TO THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE FLUID CONNECTIONS ALSO. I GOT BACK IN THE CAR AND ATTEMPTED A RESTART. THE CAR STARTED WITHOUT A PROBLEM.

HORRIBLE GRINDING SOUND FROM ALL THE WHEELS. CHIMING ALARM. "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING. CHECK BRAKES". PARKED THE CAR. GOT OUT AND LOOKED ALL AROUND. NO LEAKS. CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL, AND IT WAS OK. TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND NO BRAKE DASH WARNINGS OR CHIMING. BACKED CAR UP AND NO GRINDING SOUND. CALLED DEALER. HYBRID MECHANIC HAPPENED TO BE NEAR PHONE. I WAS TOLD TO CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL AND TURN CAR OFF AND ON TO SEE IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN. ALREADY DID THAT WITH NO PROBLEMS. HAD TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME WHICH WAS 180 MILES AWAY. IT MAKES NO SENSE THAT EVERYTHING IS WORKING FINE NOW. HAD A LOCAL BRAKE SHOP CHECK FOR LEAKS, ETC. NO PROBLEMS. THEY PLUGGED INTO THE CAR'S COMPUTER, AND THERE WERE NO ERROR CODES. RELUCTANT TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER WHEN NO CURRENT PROBLEM EXISTS. DON'T WANT THEM TO JUST START REPLACING PARTS WHICH ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND AS MUCH AS $3,000 TOTAL INSTALLED. CARS BRAKE LIGHTS ARE CONTINUOUSLY LIT EVEN WHEN ENGINE AND DRIVER HAS TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND LEFT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THAT IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH THE SONATAS. THEY CALLED THE PROBLEM TSB/STOP LAMP SWITCH. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM EITHER STATIONARY, MOVING OR ENGINE & KEY TURNED OFF. IT ALSO SHOWS SIGNS OF ENGINE HESITATION WHEN FIRST MOVING.

BRAKE LIGHTS ARE STUCK ON ALL THE TIME. PULLING UP FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TURNS THE BRAKE LIGHT OFF, BUT IT TURNS BACK ON AS SOON AS I STOP PULLING UP ON IT.

I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAD JUST ENTERED THE THE EXIT RAMP LANE. I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF DE-ACCELERATING BECAUSE I WAS CLOSE TO THE EXIT RAMP. I HAD AMPLE SPACE IN BETWEEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND MYSELF. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME RAPIDLY STOPPED AND I HIT MY BRAKES HARD TO PREVENT CRASHING. WHEN I HIT MY BRAKES HARD, MY BRAKES LOCKED UP AND I DID NOT HAVE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IT FELT LIKE I WAS SLIDING ON ICE. SINCE I WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP, I SKIDDED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO MY CAR. MY CAR WAS DEEMED TOTALED BY INSURANCE. I SAW THAT THERE IS RECALL #13V489000 FOR HYUNDAI GENESIS WITH WHAT APPEARS LIKE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. IS THERE A CHANCE THAT MY VEHICLE IS AFFECTED BY THAT RECALL? THE REAR COMBINATION LIGHT BULBS# 4 (STOP/TAIL LIGHT). THE BULB BURNT INTO THE SOCKET. ACTUAL THE BULBS WAS ON FIRE TO WHERE THE WHOLE COMBINATION SET HAS TO BE REPLACED. RUBBER BREAK STOPPER FALL OFF THE BREAK PAD.I TOOK MY CAR TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY CAR WHICH THEY STATED 'NO',AND I ENDED UP PAYING 152.31 FOR THE FIX WHICH HAS A GUARANTEE FOR AS LONG AS I OWN MY CAR IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN.I RECENTLY CHECKED MY CREDIT ON CREDIT KARMA WHICH SHOW MY INFORMATION AS OWNER OF THE 2012 SONATA AND IT SHOWS THE BREAK LIGHT RECALL WHICH I WAS CORRECT WHEN I NOTICED THE PROBLEM.AND IT SHOW ON MY CREDIT KARMA AS NOT DONE AS YET.I HAVE RECEIPT OF PROOF THAT THEY DID THE JOB AND CHARGED ME THE 152.31 WHICH I WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO PAY AS IT IS A RECALL.MY WIFE NOTICED THAT THE BREAK LIGHT STAYED ON WHEN THE CAR WAS SHUT OFF.IT WAS FIXED ON APRIL 30TH 2018.I COMPLAINED ABOUT IT BEING A RECALL BUT THEY DENIED IT.I FOUND OUT IT WAS A RECALL THROUGH MY CREDIT KARMA AND VIN NUMBER.

I HAVE TO CHANGE MY BULBS EVERY OTHER MONTH IT SEEMS LIKE BECAUSE MY BRAKE/TAIL LIGHTS KEEP BURNING OUT.. ALSO MY EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT ON MY DASH WILL NOT TURN OFF NOW. TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY KEEPS FAILING. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLIES 3 TIMES EACH TIME COST AROUND $480.00. I'VE REPLACED BULBS CONSTANTLY THAT KEEP MELTING AND HAVING TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY

THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE REMAINING ILLUMINATED WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND WHEN DRIVING. REAR DRIVERS MAY NOT KNOW THAT I'M STOPPING OR DRIVING BECAUSE THE LIGHTS ARE ALWAYS ILLUMINATED.

MY BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF, EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND THE KEY WAS REMOVED. EVEN THOUGH300,000 SAME MODEL CARS HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, MY EXACT VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN PART OF THE RECALL AND I HAD TO PAY $250 TO FIX IT. I CALLED HYUNDAI (CASE 10974149) AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR.

HYUNDAI HAD A MASSIVE RECALL 15V-759 FOR 2011-2012 SONOATA (AND OTHER VEHICLES) FOR THE BRAKE PEDAL STOPPER PAD. IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND WORE OUT WHICH MADE THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON. FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON OUR VEHICLE DOEN'T SHOW UP ON THE RECAL EVEN THOUGHT IT HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY CHARGED US TO FIX IT. WE CALLED THE HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS CASE # 10929935 AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT HELP US. WHY? IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM AND IS A 2012 SONATA WITH THE SAME DEFECTED BREAK PEDAL PAD! THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAYED ON AND DRAINED THE BATTERY

I HAVE HAD 4 POTENTIAL ACCIDENTS DUE TO THE BRAKE LIGHTS WHICH ILLUMINATES WHILE DRIVING. SPECIFICALLY, WHILE DRIVING WITH MY TODDLER ON THE EXPRESSWAY, PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATES OUT OF NO WHERE CAUSING THE CAR TO SLOW ALL DOWN AND HAS EVEN STOPPED WHILE MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE GAS PEDAL. BRAKE LIGHTS REMAIN CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED, DESPITE CAR BEING OFF. REQUIRED TO DISCONNECT BATTERY TERMINAL TO PRESERVE BATTERY. TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LAMP ALSO REMAINS ON/ILLUMINATED AS WELL. CAR CAN SHIFT BETWEEN ALL (PARK, NEUTRAL, REVERSE, DRIVE) WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BREAK PEDAL. THIS IS SIMILAR IF NOT IDENTICAL TO RECALL 136 FOR HYUNDAI, HOWEVER, MY VIN IS NOT SHOWING THE RECALL DESPITE EXACT PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED. THE ENGINE OIL PAN WAS RESEALED FIVE TIMES AND STILL ITS LEAKING. WHEN THEY RESEALED THE SECOND TIME, THEY REPLACED THE OIL PAN AS WELL. AFTER THAT IT WAS RESEALED THREE MORE TIMES AND THE CAR IS AT THE DEALER FOR SIXTH RESEAL. THEY ARE REPLACING THE PAN AGAIN. THE BRAKE CALIPER PISTONS ARE EXHIBITING EXCESSIVE RUST WHICH I HAVE NOT SEEN IN MY LIFE WHILE OWNING AND MAINTAINING VARIOUS CARS. THE FIELD ENGINEER IS SAYING THAT ITS NORMAL AND I DON'T AGREE WITH THAT. WHAT I HAVE SEEN BASED ON THAT IT'S A DESIGN FLAW. THE CALIPER PISTON SHOULD BE PRESSING COMPLETELY AGAINST THE BRAKE PAD SURFACE AREA WHERE AS SMALL PORTION OF THE CALIPER REMAINS IN NON CONTACT WITH THE PAD AND THE SALT AND SLUSH DURING THE WINTER GETS INTO IT MAKING IT RUST WHICH WILL IMPEDE THE BRAKING OPERATION IN FUTURE AND MAY CAUSE A FATAL CRASH. ATTACHED PHOTOGRAPHS ARE SHOWING PACK RUST INSIDE THE PISTON ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE.

ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE HAS SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED WHEN THE DRIVER WAS BARELY APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE PEDAL; ALMOST CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE REAR ENDED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY TWO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIPS FOR THE ISSUES; OF WHICH THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE REPLICATED. BOTH DEALERSHIPS STATED THAT IT WAS NORMAL BEHAVIOR FOR THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO MAKE THE ISSUES GO AWAY.

I FINALLY TOOK MY CAR TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER WHO EXPLAINED TO ME (THE ROTORS WERE EXTREMELY RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED) WHAT, THIS SOUNDS LIKE A MANUFACTURING ISSUE. NO, I HAD ALL ROTORS REPLACED AND NEW BRAKE PADS ALL THE WAY AROUND. GUESS WHAT, STILL MAKING THE SOUND IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. *TR

ON OCTOBER 7, 2103, WE WENT TO THE JENKINS HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP AND AFTER THEY CHECKED THE VEHICLE, THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES OR THE COMPUTER. AS WE LEFT THE PLACE, THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON FOR THE 20 MILE TRIP HOME. THE HYUNDAI WARRANTY STATES THAT WE SHOULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE BRAKES COULD LOCK UP AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. IT IS EITHER A BRAKE PROBLEM OR A COMPUTER AND I WOULD PREFER TO HAVE IT FIXED BEFORE IT CAUSES AN ACCIDENT. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL COULD BE DEPRESSED AT LEAST SIX INCHES FURTHER THAN NORMAL WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SIX OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT THEY WERE NEVER ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT ON ONE OCCASION, THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 644.

CAR LOST ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AND ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL FUNCTIONS. THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE DRIVERS FRONT WHEEL SENSOR WIRE RUBBING AGAINST A SHARP SHEET METAL EDGE. SEE PHOTOS. *TR
