Your fuel tank is cracked and leaking gasoline, causing a strong gas smell inside the cabin. This is a serious safety hazard—gasoline vapors could ignite and cause an explosion, which is why the fire department and hazmat team responded to your vehicle. The dealership is replacing the subframe due to a separate recall for severe rust, but they're not addressing the cracked fuel tank issue, which may also be related to rust damage.

Your gas pump keeps shutting off every few cents during refueling, even when your tank is nearly empty, making it take 30-45 minutes to fill up completely. You sometimes have to switch to a different pump to get a full tank, and gas has spilled out the top of the tank when trying to add fuel. This makes long road trips impractical and raises safety concerns.
