HYUNDAI IS RECALLING 532,633 MY 2006-2007 ACCENT, ENTOURAGE, SONATA, MY 2007 AZERA, ELANTRA AND SANTA FE, MY 2005-2007 TUCSON AND MY 2007-2008 VERACRUZ VEHICLES. THE STOP LAMP SWITCH IN THE AFFECTED VEHICLES MAY MALFUNCTION. A MALFUNCTIONING STOP LAMP SWITCH MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED OR MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED. A STOP LAMP SWITCH MALFUNCTION MAY ALSO AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKE-TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK FEATURE SO THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE SHIFTED OUT OF THE PARK POSITION. IT MAY ALSO CAUSE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) MALFUNCTION LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, AND IT MAY NOT DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED.
Fix: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE STOP LAMP SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 29, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT THE HYUNDAI CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 1-800-633-5151.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
Fix: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

Your cruise control didn't turn off when you pressed the brake pedal while driving—you had to shift to neutral and restart the engine to disable it. At the same time, your brake lights weren't illuminating when you pressed the brake pedal, and your check engine light came on. Your vehicle is subject to a recall for the brake light issue, but the repair parts weren't available from the dealer at the time you reported this. The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH with adaptive cruise control mode, the electronic stability control warning light was illuminated. The contact also stated that the vehicle hesitated to respond when depressing the accelerator pedal or the brake pedal. Additionally, the adaptive cruise control mode was no longer operable. The contact stated that she noticed that the adaptive cruise control mode stopped functioning when the electronic stability control warning light was illuminated. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. They associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V122000 (Exterior Lighting); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 165,000. The contact stated that they purchased the part necessary for repairs and had a mechanic replace it.
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa FE. The contact stated that while at a stoplight, he was informed that the brake lights were inoperable. The contact stated that the ESC warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the battery needed to be replaced. The battery was replaced however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000.
THERE'S BEEN ISSUES WITH THE FUEL PUMP AND PRESSURE GAUGE. WE'VE ALREADY HAD THIS PROBLEM REPAIRED 4 TIMES AND STILL SUSPECT THERE'S A LEAK SOMEWHERE. WE CAN SMELL GAS IN THE VEHICLE WHILE/AFTER PUMPING AND AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN. ALSO, THERE SEEMS TO BE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH THE HEADLIGHTS WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKES, WHILE DRIVING.
THE HEADLGHTS ON LOW BEAM BLOCK OUT THE TOP 1/3 OF THE HEADLIGHT BEAM AND 2/3 OF THE HEADLIGHT BEAM WHEN THE CAR IS GOING DOWN HILL. THIS EYEBROW EFFECT IS NOT SHOWING WHEN THE HIGH BEAMS ARE ON. IN ADDITION WHEN THE LOW BEAMS ARE IN USE, THE MYVISION ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR IS BLOCKED OUT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON COMPLAINT WHICH HYUNDAI WILL NOT ADDRESS CLAMING THERE IS NO FIX SINCE THE LIGHTS ARE PERFORMING AS DESIGNED. AT THIS POINT IN TIME THEY DO NOT OFFER A REMADY. THIS EYEBROW EFFECT APPEARS WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY OR IN MOTION BUT ONLY ON THE LOW BEAMS.
BOUGHT THE CAR USED, 2007 SANTA FE WITH 71K MILES ON IT. 2 MONTHS AFTER I GOT THE VEHICLE, THE ESC OFF LIGHT STARTED INTERMITTENTLY COMING ON. THEN ONE DAY IT STAYED ON AND THAT SAME DAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I NOTICED THE NEXT DAY THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT COME ON WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKE AND THAT MY CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE AT ALL. THE ESC OFF LIGHT WILL NOT BE ON WHEN I FIRST GET IN THE CAR, BUT THE MINUTE I HIT THE BRAKES, IT COMES ON AND STAYS ON. EVER SINCE THE FIRST DAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, IT HAS STAYED ON SINCE. I BELIEVE THIS MAY BE PART OF AN EARLIER RECALL, BUT MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE DID NOT FALL UNDER THAT RECALL.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 96,000.

FAULTY BRAKE SWITCH A/B. OBD CODES P0571 & P0504 RECORDED. SYMPTOMS: BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT LIGHT WITH BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED. CRUISE CONTROL WOULD TURN ON BUT NOT ALLOW A SPEED TO BE SET. ALSO ESC OFF LIGHT REMAINED ON DASH SOLID. SEEMS TO BE EXACT SYMPTOMS ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V122000. WE NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE OF THAT RECALL FROM HYUNDAI. WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THE ATTENTION OF MY LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THAT RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO MY VEHICLE. WHEN I CONTACTED HYUNDAI SUPPORT I WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. I SEE NUMEROUS OTHER HYUNDAI OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WERE ALSO TOLD THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO THEIR VEHICLE (VIA INTERNET REPORTS). I BELIEVE THE RECALL SHOULD HAVE APPLIED TO MY VEHICLE. I HAVE REPLACED THE PART MYSELF AND THE REPAIR SEEMS TO HAVE CORRECTED ALL THE SYMPTOMS. THE REMOVED PART IS A GENUINE PART OF HYUNDAI/KIA. IT IS P/N 92810-3K000. I HAVE HAD SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR. THE FIRST PROBLEM BEGAN YEARS AGO WITH THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS. I HAVE TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHTS FOR BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE ABOUT 5 TO 6 TIMES PER YEAR. THIS CAN GET VERY EXPENSIVE ESPECIALLY IF I WERE TO GET A TICKET. THE SECOND PROBLEM ARE THE REAR TIRES. I NOTICED ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO THAT THE TIRES GET WORN OUT MUCH QUICKER THAN THE OTHERS, SO I'M CONSTANTLY ROTATING THEM. JUST RECENTLY, IT HAS BECOME WORSE. JUST THIS YEAR, I HAVE REPLACED TIRES TWICE AND HAVE NOTICED THAT I NEED ANOTHER SET OF TIRES. HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO A MECHANIC, BUT CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE REAR-END. MY ESC LIGHT COMES ON AND GOES OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING, THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR PROBABLY THE PAST YEAR. I HAVE NEVER NOTICED ANY EFFECT ON THE PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE AND SINCE I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT ESC WAS I DID NOT PAY IT A GREAT DEAL OF ATTENTION TO IT. MY PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT ALSO DOES THIS "COMING ON AND GOING OFF THING" SO I ASSUMED IT WAS A WEIRD DASH LIGHT GLITCH. ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO VEHICLE STARTED HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS (POWER DOOR LOCKS SOMETIMES STOP WORKING). FINALLY TODAY I NOTICED MY REAR BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT COMING ON... OBVIOUSLY I WAS VERY CONCERNED AND CALLED HYUNDAI TO FIND OUT IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS. ON MY 2007 HYUNDAI SANTE FE: CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. ESC OFF LIGHT IS ON. CRUISE CONTROL HAS STOPPED WORKING. I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE IS A NHTSA ACTION #PEO9003 AND ALSO A NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 09V122000 TO REPLACE THE STOP LAMP SWITCH WHICH CAUSES THESE MALFUNCTIONS.. IN A LETTER FROM HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA (CAMPAIGN 092/ 09-01-018) DATED JUN 2009, IT STATES THAT THESE MALFUNCTIONS MAY LEAD TO A CRASH. YET, WHEN I TOOK MY CAR TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE STOP LAMP SWITCH AT NO CHARGE TO ME AS STATED IN THE LETTER. THE HYUNDAI TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN STATES THAT DEALERS MUST PERFORM THIS CAMPAIGN ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES WHENEVER AN AFFECTED VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP FOR ANY MAINTENANCE OR REPAIR. I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE IN THE SHOP SEVERAL TIMES FOR UNRELATED ISSUES SINCE 2009 BUT THIS REPAIR WAS NEVER MENTIONED, OFFERED OR PERFORMED. I FEEL THAT I AM DRIVING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE AND HYUNDAI IS AVOIDING A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 87,843. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 87,800. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

WE OWN A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON A FAULTY BRAKE LAMP SWITCH. WE HAD THAT REPLACED BY THE DEALER. OUR VEHICLE IS NOW ENCOUNTERING PROBLEMS WITH IT APPLYING BRAKES FOR NO REASON WHILE OPERATING IT ON THE ROADWAYS.WE HAVE YET TO HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT, EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE BRAKES AND SLOWS ON ITS OWN WITHOUT NOTICE AND FOR NO REASON. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE YAW SENSOR IS BAD. WE ARE LUCKY THAT NO ACCIDENT HAS OCCURRED AS OF YET BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. I SAW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2005 HYUNDAI TUSCONS FOR THIS OR A SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE YAW SENSOR. IS THERE OR WILL THERE BE A RECALL ON THE SANTA FE'S NOW OR IN THE NEAR FUTURE FOR THIS BRAKING SYSTEM WHICH IS UNSAFE? THE DEALER WANTS TO SELL US THE DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS PART FOR $493.00 PLUS TAX AND BETWEEN $200.00 AND $300.00 LABOR TO INSTALL. YOU NEED TO LOOK INTO THIS DANGEROUS AND DEFECTIVE PART. THERE'S A COMMON DEFECT WITH CERTAIN SANTE FE MODELS THAT LEAVES THE FRONT OF THE CABIN DARK AND WITHOUT LIGHTING WHEN THE FRONT DOORS ARE OPEN. IT SEEMS THAT THE PROBLEM SURFACES ON MODELS BUILT AT CERTAIN TIMES OF THE YEAR. APPARENTLY HYUNDAI CHOOSES TO IGNORE CUSTOMER CONCERN IN THIS MATTER. TL*-THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE HAS OVER HEAD MAP LIGHTS DON'T FUNCTION AT ALL IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED HER THAT THE MAP LIGHTS ONLY WORK IF SHE PRESSES THE MAP LIGHT BUTTON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE SHOULD HAVE AN OVER HEAD LIGHT IN HER VEHICLE WHEN SHE GETS INTO HER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, SHE GETS INTO HER VEHICLE EVERY NIGHT AFTER WORK AND IT IS COMPLETELY DARK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL VEHICLES SHOULD HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH OVERHEAD LIGHTS THAT WORK WHEN YOU OPEN THE VEHICLE DOORS.
THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED DURING THE NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS ONLY PROVIDED 30 FEET OF ILLUMINATION. AFTER THE 30 FOOT DISTANCE, THERE WAS A DISTINCT SHADOW. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHERE THE DEALER ADJUSTED THE ALIGNMENT OF THE HEADLIGHTS BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED
