Oil leaked from your engine's valve cover onto the alternator, damaging it and causing your charging system warning light to come on before the engine shut off. You had to tow the car and pay for repairs including new valve cover gaskets, alternator, and belt. Though Hyundai later issued a recall for the valve cover, your reimbursement claim has stalled with the company requesting documents repeatedly then stopping communication. The fix would involve Hyundai reviewing your claim documentation and processing reimbursement for the repair costs you already paid.

Brake/stop light switch located behind the brake pedal sticks causing the gear shift to not be removed from or into Park. Hyundai issued Recall #110 for this issue but the recall does not cover all versions of 2007 Santa Fe even though the issue occasionally occurs on non recalled versions.
ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON AND THE FUEL NEEDLE STAYS ON EMPTY AFTER THE TANK IS FULL.
THE VALVE COVER GASKET FAILED AFTER BEING REPLACED UNDER A PREVIOUS RECALL IN THE SAME MANNER AND OIL LEAKS DIRECTLY INTO THE ALTERNATOR CAUSING IT TO ULTIMATELY FAIL.
IT STARTED OFF AS WHAT SEEMED LIKE JUST THE BULBS BURNING OUT IN ANY WHICH LIGHT. THEN MY PASSENGER WINDOW STOPPED WORKING THEN STARTED WORKING. THE LIGHTS STILL WERE HAVING ISSUES. IT TOOK A BIT FOR ME TO REALIZE THAT THERE IS A SHORT OR SOMETHING IN THE CAR. THE LIGHTS GO OUT THEN COME BACK ON THEN SWITCH WHICH ONE IS OUT. THE WORST TIME WAS WHEN IT WENT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND CAME BACK OUT WITH NO LIGHTS WORKING. I CONTACTED THE COMPANY TO MAKE SURE THERE WAS NO FOUL PLAY AND THEY CHECKED THEIR CAMERA. I'VE HAD THE LIGHTS LOOKED AT MULTIPLE TIMES BY MULTIPLE DIFFERENT COMPANIES. IT NEVER FIXES THE PROBLEM PERMANENTLY. A FEW WEEKS AGO THE BACK RIGHT PASSENGER LOCK STOPPED WORKING THEN THE NEXT WEEK THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW AGAIN. THEN YESTERDAY THE LOCK STARTED TO WORK AND TODAY IT DOESN'T AGAIN. AND SPEEDOMETER IS OFF. HARD TO SAY BY HOW MUCH. DEPENDS ON WHICH SPEED READER I GO BY.
POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD AND ENGINE FAILURE. OIL LEAKING FROM TOP, ANTERIOR, PASSENGER SIDE OF ENGINE AGAIN CAUSING ELECTRICAL ISSUES AND ALTERNATOR FAILURE. MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL ISSUES, CAR NOT STARTING, CLOCK RESETTING, DRAINING OF BATTERY. SOLUTION: REPLACED VALVE COVER GASKET AT OWNERS EXPENSE FIRST TIME AT 114900 MILES, BEFORE SERVICE CAMPAIGN 936 WAS KNOWN. MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL ISSUES AGAIN, CLOCK RESETTING, CAR NOT STARTING, TRIPOMETER RESETTING. SOLUTION: DEALERSHIP REPLACED VALVE COVER GASKET SECOND TIME AT 136,434 MILES, UNDER RECALL. DEALERSHIP ALSO REPLACED FAULTY, OIL COVERED ALTERNATOR. DEALERSHIP NOTED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN COVER WAS LEAKING OIL. THE TIMING CHAIN COVER IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN 936, BUT SHOULD BE AS THE LEAK IS THE SIMILAR ISSUE TO THE VALVE GASKET COVER. *TR
CAR HAS RECALL. DEALER TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN THEY WOULD FIX IT. DEALER THEN TELLS ME CORPORATE HYUNDAI WILL NOT ALLOW THEM TO DO THE WORK EVEN THOUGH DEALER HAS THE PART. AN ELECTRICAL SHORT WITHIN THE ABS MODULE MAY CAUSE AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE, EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF, INCREASING THE RISK OF AN INJURY. *TR
MY VEHICLE STALLS AND EXPERIENCES A LOSS OF POWER AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES PER HOUR FREQUENTLY, WHICH SHUTS OFF THE VEHICLE IN A MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC, POSING A SAFETY RISK.THIS HAPPENS EVERYDAY AND I'M WORRIED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MY CHILDREN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TURN SIGNAL INDICATORS AND THE CRUISE CONTROL FEATURE WOULD NOT OPERATE WHEN NEEDED. IN ADDITION, THE ECM WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHEN THE FAILURES OCCURRED. ALSO, WHEN THE CONTACT REPLACED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TURN SIGNAL BULB, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE BULB ALSO FAILED TO OPERATE. FURTHERMORE, THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH BRAKE LIGHTS BEGAN TO FAIL AFTER THE BULBS WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ECM FAILED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V113000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, EXTERIOR LIGHTING), WHICH LISTED THE SAME FAILURES SHE WAS EXPERIENCING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 185,000.
ISSUE 1) FUEL SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED, ONE WAS DONE BY ME THE OTHER BY MECHANIC. IT STOPPED SHOWING HOW MUCH GAS I HAD IN TANK SO I HAD TO GUESS. SEEMS TO BE A KNOW. AND RECURRING ISSUE ISSUE 2) HEADLIGHTS HAVE ALL OF A SUDDEN STOPPED WORKING, THE HIGH BEAMSS WORK ISSUE 3) THE DRIVER LOCK NO LONGER WORKS BUT OTHERS DO AND THE GAS DOOR NO LONGER UNLOCKS FROM DRIVER DOOR SO I HAVE TO USE THE EMERGENCY RELEASE TO GET AT THE TANK. ISSUE 4) THE LATCH FOR THE HOOD IS STUCK OPEN, THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE ON ANOTHER MODEL FROM THE SAME YEAR. I CAN GET MECHANIC RECORDS FOR FUEL ISSUE, THAT WAS ABOUT 1.4 YEARS AGO. HEADLIGHTS WERE YESTERDAY AND HOOD AS OF TODAY. THE DOOR ISSUE WITHIN LAST FEW MONTHS AND GAS DOOR WITHIN 2 YEARS.
2007 SANTE FE ALTERNATOR ISSUE. POST RECALL FIX, OIL LEAK STILL HAPPENING AND THIS TIME THE ALTERNATOR ALMOST CAUGHT ON FIRE. SMOKE STARTED POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. HAD TO PULL OVER AND POUR WATER ON THE ALTERNATOR TO KEEP IT FROM CATCHING ON FIRE. CAR BECAME DISABLED AND HAD TO BE TOWED. FAMILY WAS IN CAR WHILE THIS WAS HAPPENING.
FRONT CORNER OF VALVE COVER IS LEAKING OIL ONTO MY ALTERNATOR CAUSING IT TO BECOME SATURATED WITH OIL AND ELECTRICAL SHUTDOWN. THE SAME OIL IS SPREADING ALL AROUND MY DRIVE BELT FROM THE ALTERNATOR AND SATURATING ALL PULLIES AND THE ENTIRE DRIVE BELT AS WELL. I AM HAVING PROBLEMS CHARGING MY BATTERY ELECTRICAL SHUTDOWNS ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITH OTHER COMPONENTS SUCH AS STEERING, A/C AND BELT NOT WANTING TO GRIP THE PULLIES THAT IT RIDES ON. VERY DANGEROUS. NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS SIMULAR TO THE SAME EXACT ENGINE ON THE HYUNDAI CROSSOVER THAT HAS THE SAME ENGINE TYPE BUT WAS RECALLED TO FIX. WHY ARE SANTA FE OWNERS LEFT OUT OF THIS RECALL IF IT IS THE SAME EXACT ENGING AS THE CROSSOVER THAT WAS RECALLED AND FIXED.
HYUNDAI RECALLS SANTA FE FOR ALTERNATOR OIL LEAK.SANTA FE CROSSOVER TO FIX AN OIL LEAK, CAUSED BY A FAULTY VALVE COVER GASKET, THAT COULD AFFECT ALTERNATOR PERFORMANCE..DEALER SAID THEY WONT HONOR THE RECALL CAUSE ITS OUT OF WARRANTY.ALSO THE COIL WAS NOT REPLACED AND A RECALL WAS SENT OUT ALSO ON COIL SPRING. THE WONT HONOR THAT.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON AFTER A PROFESSIONAL RESET BRAKES LIGHT WONT GO OFF UNLESS I UNHOOK THE BATTERY
WE HAVE A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE LIMITED V6 3.3L WITH ~80K MILES THAT SUFFERED AN ALTERNATOR FAILURE WHILE DRIVING YESTERDAY 8/14: CAR LOST ALL POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND STALLED... HOPEFULLY WITHOUT MUCH TRAFFIC AROUND. WE THOUGHT IT WAS A BATTERY PROBLEM, SO WE GOT A NEW BATTERY BUT PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. WE CHECKED TO SEE IF OTHERS HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND FOUND THERE WAS A SANTA FE 2007'S RECALL ON A VALVE GASKET IN 2016. NOW, IT SEEMS OUR OLD HYUNDAI DEALER CHANGED IT DURING THE 60K MAINTENANCE (WE DIDN'T RECEIVE A NOTICE OR WERE TOLD ABOUT IT AT THAT TIME, ALTHOUGH TODAY WE FOUND THEY DID IT IN 2016 B/C WE WERE INFORMED ABOUT THAT IN THE DEALER THIS MORNING). IN ANY CASE, WE TOWED THE CAR TO A CLOSER HYUNDAI DEALER (CAR WOULD NOT MOVE EVEN AFTER BATTERY JUMP) AND THEY BASICALLY TOLD US THE REPLACED GASKET DIDN'T WORK AND IMPACTED THE ALTERNATOR. PROBLEM IS, THE CAR IS 11 YEARS OLD AND IS 'OUT OF WARRANTY'. THEY ARE 'CHECKING WITH CORPORATE' WHETHER THEY SHOULD CHARGE US FULL PRICE FOR THE REPAIR ($1700) EVEN IF THE PROBLEM IS -MORE THAN LIKELY- RELATED TO THAT RECALL... SO, MY QUESTION: SINCE THE PROBLEM THAT THE WORK DONE IN 2016 SHOULD FIX STILL HAPPENED, AM I STILL COVERED BY THAT RECALL? DO FREE-COST RECALLS END WITH THE WARRANTY (10-YR) FOR THE CAR? THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VALVE COVER GASKET AS ITS POOR DESIGN CAUSED IT TO FAIL AND LEAK INTO THE ALTERNATOR CAUSING THE ALTERNATOR TO EVENTUALLY FAIL. I'VE HAD IT REPLACED TWICE AND THE THIRD GASKET HAS FAILED AND IS LEAKING INTO THE ALTERNATOR ONCE AGAIN. HYUNDAI HAS FAILED TO CREATE A PERMANENT SOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE AND SHOULD CONTINUE TO REPLACE THE GASKET AND ALTERNATOR IF NECESSARY UNTIL THEY DO.
CRANKSHAFT HARMONIC BALANCER BROKE APART WHICH CAUSED LOSS OF CONTROL: ( OF THE STEERING, BRAKES, LIGHTING, ETC. ) THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT A VERY LOW SPEED WHILE TURNING INTO A DRIVEWAY! FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY STOP AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE WHICH PREVENTED EXCESSIVE DAMAGE FROM SHRAPNEL. IF THIS OCCURRED AT THE INTERSTATE SPEEDS, IT COULD HAVE PROVED CATASTROPHIC FOR MYSELF, PASSENGERS AND OTHER HIGHWAY TRAVELERS. MY CHECKING ONLINE DISCLOSED THERE ARE MANY OCCURRENCES OF THIS NATURE! UNFORTUNATELY I DID NOT TAKE PHOTOS.
BOTH FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNITS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT 91,000 MILES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND IMPROPER/INACCURATE FUEL GAUGE READINGS PROMPTED THE REPAIR WHICH COST OVER $400 AT MY LOCAL MECHANIC. PER THE MECHANIC AND INTERNET RESEARCH, THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE PREVALENT WITH PRE-2010 SANTA FE MODELS AS HE RECENTLY REPLACED ANOTHER SET OF FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNITS IN A SANTA FE. CLEARLY NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR.
FOR THE LAST 3-6 MONTHS MY ENGINE LIGHT AND FUEL GAUGE HAVE BEEN ACTING UP. MY ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON TO CHECK ENGINE AT SAME TIME MY FUEL AMOUNT READS EMPTY OF 1/4 TANK AMOUNT AFTER I JUST FILLED UP. I'M TOLD THAT I NEED TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE SENSORS FOR 600.00 PLUS DOLLARS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I DONT WANT TO RUN OUT OF FUEL BY A BAD READ OUT OR STALL IN TRAFFIC.
TURN SIGNAL COLUMN, TURN SIGNAL RAPID CLICKING, TURN SIGNAL DOESN'T TURN OFF, SMOKE FROM STEERING COLUMN.
THERE IS A GASKET LEAK THAT DRIPS OIL ON TO MY CAR'S ALTERNATOR, AFFECTING ITS ABILITY TO WORK. LAST YEAR, THIS PROBLEM CAUSED MY CAR NOT TO START, AND COMPLETELY DRAINED MY NEW CAR BATTERY (WHEN I THOUGHT THIS WAS SIMPLY A CAR BATTERY ISSUE). LAST YEAR, IT WOULD NOT START FOR ME AT ALL - I DISCOVERED THIS PROBLEM TOO LATE. THIS PROBLEM WITH THE GASKET LEAK IS OCCURRING AGAIN AND CAUSES MY BATTERY LIGHT TO COME ON WHILE DRIVING. WHILE I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR EVALUATION AND REPAIR, I WAS BY HYUNDAI'S CAR DEALERSHIP TO NOT DRIVE AT NIGHT AND TO NOT DRIVE WHILE IT'S RAINING.
GASKET LEAKS OIL ONTO ALTERNATOR CAUSING IT TO FAIL. HYUNDAI HAS A RECALL ON THE SISTER CAR HYUNDAI VERACRUZ FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT NOT THE SANTA FE. I HAVE SPENT ALOT OF MONEY ON THIS REPAIR AND THINK THAT I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN.
FRIDAY, AUG 12, I PARKED THE CAR AROUND 6:30 PM. AROUND 8:40 AM, SATURDAY AUG 13, NEIGHBORS RANG MY DOOR BELL AND BANGED ON THE MY DOOR. THE SANTA FE WAS ON FIRE. MY INSURANCE COMPANY FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF ARSON. THE CAR PARKED FOR AROUND 14 HOURS CAUGHT FIRE. RESEARCHING ONLINE, I FOUND NUMEROUS COMMENTS FROM OTHER HYUNDAI OWNERS WHO FACED A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE.
GAS GAGE GOES FROM FULL TO EMPTY IN A MATTER OF MINUTES. CAN'T TELL HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE AS TRIP TICKET FUNCTION GOES "BERSERK" AS WELL AND MAY REGISTER FOR INSTANCE 20 MILES WHEN THE ODOMETER SAYS I HAVE ONLY TRAVELLED 10 MILES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC FUNCTION PANEL ON THE DRIVER SIDE FAILED TO WORK AND ALL OF THE DOORS RANDOMLY FAILED TO LOCK ON THE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSIS. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V122000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED SEVERAL TIMES AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL EACH TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I HAVE RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A FAULTY FUEL GAUGE, THEREFORE ACTIVATING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. VEHICLE HAS 107236 MILES ON IT. I GOT ON LINE AND SOUGHT OUT POSSIBLE INFO FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND WAS MADE AWARE THAT MANY, MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. SO I WENT TO THE HYUNDAI WEB SITE LOOKING TO SEE IF A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED. THERE WAS NONE THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE ABLE TO POSSIBLY ENDANGER HUMAN LIFE, AND/OR INJURY. IT IS MINE, AND SEVERAL OTHER'S OPINION THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ADMINISTERED BY THE NHTSA TO FORCE HYUNDAI MOTOR CORP. TO ENGAGE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, AS THIS IS BECOMING SYMPTOMATIC FROM THE FACTS THAT HAVE BEEN POSTED ON THE WEB. I, AND MANY OTHERS WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ASSISTANCE THAT YOU CAN GIVE US IN THIS MATTER, AS AFTER CHECKING INTO COST OF REPAIRS, ARE QUITE COSTLY, AND THE POSSIBILITY OF A DETRIMENTAL INJURY, AND/OR LOSS OF LIFE COULD OCCUR!! I BOUGHT THIS CAR A YEAR AGO AND THEY TOLD ME EVERYTHING WAS UP TO DATE. THERE WAS A RECALL BACK IN 2008 ON THE TRAILER HITCH THAT WASN'T FIXED AND SOMETHING ABOUT THE AIR BAGS. ALSO THE DID PLAYER FOR THE TV ISN'T PLAYING ANYTHING.
THIS IS ACTUALLY MY THIRD COMPLAINT. I HAVE SPOKEN TO HYUNDAI NO ONE WILL ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. FIRST MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A FUEL GAUGE SENSOR. I RECENTLY HAD THEM REPLACED NOW MY CAR'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS FLASHING AND THE CAR HAS STALLED ON ME SEVERAL TIMES WHILE IN TRAFFIC OR ON THE INTERSTATE. HYUNDAI IS IGNORING THIS. I THINK IT'S MY FUEL/ PROPOSITION SYSTEM. I HAD A TUNE-UP THE CAR SHAKES LIKE IT'S GOING TO STALL CONSTANTLY. I CAN SMELL THE FUEL FROM INSIDE OF THE CAR. I CANNOT BELIEVE AFTER ALL THE COMPLAINTS THEY STILL SAY THAT THE CARS AFFECTED WERE EITHER ONLY 2006 MODELS OR WERE NEVER SOLD. THAT'S A LIE. THEY'VE HAD OVER FOUR HUNDRED COMPLAINTS AND THREE YEARS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF; GAS GAUGE CLAIMS THE TANK IS EMPTY, FULL, EMPTY, HALF TANK...ALL WITHIN MINUTES; HEADLIGHTS WON'T LIGHT BUT FOG LIGHTS AND PARKING LIGHTS CURRENTLY WORK. HAPPENS WHETHER VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR DRIVING.
ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO THE GAS GAUGE DROPPED TO "E" AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK TO AUTOZONE AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. WITH A COST OF $300.AT THAT TIME I DIDN'T KNOW THERE WERE 2 SENDING UNITS. WOW $600. I PUT SOME CLEANER IN THE GAS WHICH HAS HELPED A LITTLE, JUST PROLONGING GETTING IT FIXED. SOMETIMES IT WORKS SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T. I WATCHED THE RANGE IN MILES BOUNCE AROUND THE OTHER DAY WHILE DRIVING. I CAN'T PAY $600 TO REPAIR SOME THING IF IT ISN'T COMPLETELY BROKE.

HYUNDAI DEALER ACKNOWLEDGED IS MANUFACTUER SWITCH DEFECT, WITHOUT SAFETY FUSE TO PREVENT FIRE ON OVERHEATING, BUT IS CHARGING $250 TO REPAIR AND KEEPING MY ONLY CAR FOR AT LEAST A WEEK WHILE ORDERING ANOTHER PART (WHICH AS IT IS THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART IS JUST AS LIKELY TO EVENTUALLY FAIL AND RISK A CAR FIRE WHILE DRIVING MY KIDS). DEALER SAYS HYUNDAI ACCEPTS NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEFECTIVE PART. A COMPLAINT 10629458 WAS FILED FOR WHAT SOUNDS LIKE THE SAME DEFECT IN A 2010 SANTA FE WITH SIMILAR ABDICATION OF RESPONSIBILITY BY HYUNDAI. THINGS THAT CAUSE CABIN FIRES SHOULD PROMP A RECALL.
I RECEIVED A SERVICE CAMPAIGN NOTIFICATION RE MY 2007 HYUNDAI SANTE FE AUTO TO INSPECT (& POSSIBLY REPLACE) THE ALTERNATOR & REPLACE THE FRONT VALVE COVER GASKET. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE VAN NUYS CA SERVICE DEPARTMENT. AFTER PERSISTING TO GET AN ANSWER AS TO HOW LONG THE SERVICE WOULD TAKE, I WAS TOLD I COULD EXPECT 2 DAYS. I NEED TRANSPORTATION TO & FROM HYUNDAI. I WAS TOLD THEIR SHUTTLE WOULD ONLY TAKE ME 6 MILES. MY HOME IS 8.2 MILES AWAY. I WAS TOLD I COULD RENT A VEHICLE FOR $30+ PER DAY. IT IT APPROPRIATE THAT SUCH A NOTIFICATION SHOULD COST ME UPWARDS OF $60????? WHAT AGENCY OVERSEES AUTOMOBILE SAFETY OR TO WHOM SHOULD I COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS?
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED IN AUGUST OF 2015 AND WHEN I FILLED THE CAR UP I NOTICED THE FUEL GAUGE DIDN'T READ FULL. WITHIN A FEW MINUTES THE FUEL HAND DROPPED BELOW HALF FULL. I HIT THE TRIP BUTTON TO SEE WHAT THE RANGE DISPLAY WAS REPORTING AND IT WAS DROPPING LIKE A ROCK (STARTED AT 200+ MILES AND DROPPED DOWN TO LESS THAN 100 MILES). THEN A FEW MINUTES AFTER THAT THE EMPTY LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT WITH A P0460. THIS APPEARS TO BE A FREQUENT PROBLEM ON THIS MODEL CAR. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS IS NOT A RECALL SITUATION. IT IS POSSIBLE TO RUN OUT OF GAS WHILE MOVING (ON EXPRESSWAY) WHICH COULD CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT.
WHILE DRIVING THE FUEL GAUGE DROPPED TO EMPTY. THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO CODE READ AT A LOCAL AUTOMOTIVE STORE. THE PRICE OF THERE PART WAS 350. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT A DEALER WILL CHARGE. HE TOLD ME IT WAS A FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS I FOUND LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME ISSUE. THIS SHOULD NOT BE FAILING THIS SOON.
HYUNDAI DEALER INFORMED ME THAT VALVE COVER GASKET IS LEAKING ONTO ALTERNATOR WHICH WILL CAUSE IT TO FAIL. ESTIMATED OUT OF POCKET COST TO REPAIR IS OVER $700. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT CAUSED THE RECALL ON THE HYUNDAI VERA CRUZ. I'M AFRAID THAT THE ALTERNATOR WILL FAIL AT SPEED CAUSING LOSS OF POWER AND DIMINISH BRAKING AND STEERING CAPABILITY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,100.
THE FUEL LEVEL GAUGE CHANGES RANDOMLY. CHECK ENGINES CODES P0463, P0464, P2068 INDICATES A FUEL LEVEL SENSOR FAILURE. THIS IS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED ON OTHER CAR MANUFACTURERS POTENTIALLY USING THE SAME SENSOR SYSTEM. THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECALLS ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE OWNER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO KNOW THE ACCURATE FUEL LEVEL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS MAY CAUSE TANK OVERFILLING AND POTENTIALLY SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES. THIS IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR ($1000) AND IS NOT COVERED BY HYUNDAI AFTER THE 5 YEAR WARRANTY. *TR

HE SAID THE YELLOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT SPORADICALLY LIGHTS IS TRIGGERED BY FAULTY GAS LEVEL SENSOR. THE DEALER CLEARED THE TROUBLE CODE FOR ME AND SUGGESTED I NOT WASTE MY MONEY ON THE COSTLY REPAIR OF THE SENSOR AND USE MY ODOMETER TO TRACK WHEN I SHOULD FILL THE TANK. UNFORTUNATELY THE ODOMETER IS NOT DESIGNED OR INTENDED FOR THIS PURPOSE. GAS GAUGES SERVE A VITAL ROLE IN KEEPING THE DRIVER INFORMED OF WHEN THE TANK NEEDS MORE FUEL. MY FAMILY AND I WERE PLACED IN DANGER AS WE WERE IN THE LEFT LANE ON A BUSY EXPRESSWAY AND HAD TO QUICKLY MERGE OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE ON THE RIGHT SIDE WHILE QUICKLY LOSING SPEED. MY EXPERIENCE AND OBSERVATION IS SAME WHAT IS EXPLAIN IN THE EARLIER POST. I CAR DOES HAVE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FAILURE WHICH WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. UNFORTUNATELY I HAVE SHELL OUT $70 FROM POCKET TO FIX IT. THE HYUNDAI DEALER (HYUNDAI MARK ZIMMERMAN) CHARGED ME $291 FOR FIXING THE TPS AND PROGRAMMING THE ECM. WHEN I WOULD BEGIN ACCELERATION THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE THEN TAKE OFF RAPIDLY THEN I WOULD LOOSE POWER TO A SPEED OF @ 25 MILES PER HOUR AND THE ESC OFF SWITCH WOULD APPEAR ON THE DASHBOARD FOLLOWED BY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I SAFELY PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS. ONCE I TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON, THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WOULD GO OUT AND I WOULD REPEAT THIS CYCLE 8-9 TIMES BEFORE BEING ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AFTER DRIVING NORMALLY FOR ABOUT 10 MILES THE ESC OFF LIGHT WOULD REAPPEAR ON THE DASHBOARD IN MY OPINION THIS IS A SERIOUS MALFUNCTION AND CERTAINLY DANGEROUS COMBINATION AND SHOULD BE LABELED AS A RECALL. HYUNDAI SHOULD VALUE THE SAFETY AND EXPECTATIONS OF THEIR CAR BUYERS. THANKS! *TR
SUV WILL START BUT ESC LIGHT STAYS ON AND THEN THE SUV FAILS TO ACCELERATE. SUV MUST THEN BE RESTARTED FOR A CYCLE OF 10-15 TIMES UPON WHICH TIME THE ESC LIGHT TURNS OFF AND SUV WILL THEN ACCELERATE WHEN GOING UP A HILL. SYSTEM FAILURE HAS OCCURRED DAILY SINCE MARCH 2013. DEALERSHIP KNOWS HYUNDAI IS RECALLING 2007 SANTA FE BUT REFUSES TO SERVICE VEHICLE AT NO COST UNLESS I RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE. *TR
I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM HYUNDAI CONCERNING THE AIRBAGS IN THE VEHICLE. I REALIZED THAT MY AIRBAG LIGHT ON MY DASH HAD BEEN ON FOR A LONG TIME, PERHAPS A YEAR OR TWO, BUT I THOUGHT THAT WAS NORMAL AND DIDN'T REALIZE IT MEANT IT DIDN'T WORK. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY PERFORMED THE REPAIR RELATED TO THE RECALL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REPAIR DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AS THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I AGREED TO PAY THE DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE SO THE DEALER COULD FIND THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS A SHORT IN THE WIRING HARNESS THAT IS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WHICH WOULD COST $1500 TO FIX. THEY SAID THE SRS COMPUTER AND AIRBAG SENSOR MAY ALSO NEED TO BE REPLACED FOR A COST OF $600 AND $400 RESPECTIVELY. *TR
WIFE'S CAR-DRIVING ONE DAY AND NOTICED AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON. TOOK TO DEALER. DEALER SAID IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE WHILE PART WAS ORDERED, WOULD NOT OFFER LOANER. CAME BACK AND HAD PART INSTALLED A WEEK-1/2 LATER, AFTER FINALLY GOT PART NOTICE IN MAIL. PART REPLACED-NO LIGHT ANYMORE. PROBLEM IS BACK AGAIN. CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUT THEY DON'T SEEM TO BE TOO CONCERNED. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A WIRING MALFUNCTION WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO ADVISED THAT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE AIR BAGS COULD POSSIBLY NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000. UPDATED 03/16/11 *BF THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AND HAVE BEEN REPLACED 10 TIMES OR MORE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. ALSO, THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR WAS NOT LOCKING/UNLOCKING PERIODICALLY. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE VEHICLE HAD AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. UPDATED 06/03/11
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 23, 2010: CAR WAS PARKED IN A STORE PARKING LOT. ON APPROACH TO CAR SMOKE WAS OBSERVED ON THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. UPON OPENING THE CAR, SMOKE AND FIRE COULD BE SEEN CENTERED AROUND THE RIGHT SIDE SEAT WARMER SWITCH AND ELECTRICAL PORT. NOTHING WAS PLUGGED IN AND KEY WAS NOT IN THE IGNITION. FIRE WAS PUT OUT BY BLOWING ON IT. SEAT WARMER SWITCH WAS MELTED ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND THE ELECTRICAL PORT CAP WAS PARTIALLY MELTED AND BLOWN OFF INTO THE CONSOLE TRAY. SOOT AND DAMAGE TO BUTTONS AND CONSOLE ABOVE THE SEAT WARMER BUTTONS ALONG WITH BUBBLED, MELTED VINYL ON CENTER CONSOLE. RETURNED CAR TO HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING. SERVICE MGR SAID THAT IT WAS SOMETHING THAT WE HAD PLUGGED IN AND TOOK PICTURES. SERVICE MGR SENT PICTURES TO CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS. CORP HEADQUARTERS ALSO SAID IT WAS SOMETHING THAT WE DID. CONTACTED HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND ASKED FOR INVESTIGATION BEHIND THE PANEL. JUNE 19, 2010 HYUNDAI INVESTIGATED AND SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE SO IT MUST HAVE BEEN SOMETHING THAT WE DID. *TR
LETTER REGARDING THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS HE HAS EXPERIENCED WITH HIS 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHENEVER HE PARKED NEAR ELECTRICAL TOWERS, THE LOCKS ON THE DOOR WOULD MALFUNCTION, THE CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT WOULD NOT GO OUT, THE WINDOWS WOULD NOT GO UP, THE GEAR BOX WOULD NOT DISPLAY WHICH GEAR THE VEHICLE WAS IN. THE CLIMATE CONTROL NEVER FUNCTIONED ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL. THE CRUISE CONTROL SOMETIME EXCEEDED THE SET SPEED OVER OR DOWN LONG INCLINES. THE DRIVER'S SEAT WHICH WAS ELECTRONIC SAT UP TOO HIGH. THE ROOF RACK CROSS BAR WAS TOO FAR, WHICH ALLOWED AIR TO PULL OFF THE LOADS. THE TIRE JACK WAS NOT SUFFICIENT FOR THE VEHICLE*JB
RE: 2007 HYUD SANTA FE G. 49880 MILES (AT OIL CHANGE 11/02/2009). I DROVE MY CAR APPROX 90 MILES ON A SHOPPING TRIP. I PARKED THE CAR IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE APPROX 3 PM, WENT INSIDE THE HOUSE AND APPROX 5 MINUTES WENT TO THE CAR TO REMOVE THE ITEMS I BOUGHT. I FOUND THE CAR BURNING AT THE DASH BOARD IN FRONT OF THE STEERING WHEEL. I CALL 911 AND THE FIRE DEPT ARRIVE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE ENTIRE INSIDE OF THE CAR WAS BURNED. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION IN THE VEHICLE AND SMOKE ERUPTED FROM THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND INSTRUMENT PANEL. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT IMMEDIATELY EXITED THE VEHICLE AND INSPECTED UNDERNEATH THE HOOD, BUT THERE WAS NO SMOKE OR FLAMES. THE WINDSHIELD WAS DAMAGED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT CALLED TO THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DETECT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,000. ON MONDAY DECEMBER 18, 2007 I GOT A 2007 SANTA FE TO DRIVE AS A LOANER FROM A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP. TUESDAY NIGHT WHEN I FILLED THE GAS TANK, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WHO TOLD ME TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP, WHO IN TURN TOLD ME TO CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. BROWN'S MANAGER, ISHMAEL TOLD MY HUSBAND THAT HE COULD NOT HELP US. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER WHO SAID THAT THE PROBLEM HAD TO DO WITH THE REMOTE STARTER ON THE KEY CHAIN, WHICH I COULD PRESS TWICE AND THE CAR WOULD RESTART. HE OFFERED ANOTHER CAR TO ME BUT ASSURED ME THAT I SHOULD BE FINE. I OPTED TO KEEP THE SANTA FE. THAT NIGHT AS I RETURNED ON THE FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY FROM HERNDON TO MY HOME, THE SANTA FE DIED AGAIN. NO AMOUNT OF PRESSING ON THE REMOTE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND I BECAME PANICKED AS CARS RACED BY ON EITHER SIDE OF ME. THE VEHICLE NEVER RESTARTED ALTHOUGH THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WOULD OCCASIONALLY FLASH ON THEN OFF. A POLICEMAN CONTACTED A TOW TRUCK WHO TOWED ME BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. I FELT MY LIFE WAS AT RISK BY THE SANTA FE'S TOTAL FAILURE IN THE MIDDLE OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY AT RUSH HOUR, WHERE I WAS STRANDED FOR 40 MINUTES. *TR

THE DEALER ORDERED A FUSE BOX, BUT THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THEY ORDERED THE SAME PART AGAIN, BUT THE LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED. HE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH HYUNDAI CONSUMER AFFAIRS.
