THREE SEPARATE INCIDENTS OVER THREE YEARS BEGINNING IN 2012 AND CONTINUING TO 2015. TWO CRACKED RIMS, THREE SIDEWALL BULGES, RESULTING IN TWO TIRE BLOW-OUTS AND ONE ALMOST-READY-TO-BLOW. CAR HAS LOW-PROFILE TIRES, WHICH COMBINED WITH HYUNDAI STIFF FRONT SUSPENSION RENDERS CAR UNABLE TO HANDLE ANY KIND OF ROUGH ROADS OR POTHOLES. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. *TR
MY TIRES HAVE DEVELOPED BULGES AFTER ONLY 24000 MILES OF USE. I HAVE THE FOLLOWING, ORIGINAL TIRES: P214/45R17 MY TIRES HAVE SIGNIFICANT AND DANGEROUS BULGES, WHICH CAN LEAD TO DANGEROUS DRIVING AND BLOW OUTS. IF THIS IS CHARACTERISTIC OF ALL TIRES IN THE SET, I'D LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR A SET OF TIRES THAT DO THIS, THEIR INSTALLATION, AND THE DECREASED FUEL EFFICIENCY THAT WILL COME FROM HAVING SMALLER TIRES. HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH TIRE WEAR ON THE 17 INCH TIRE PROVIDED WITH THE 2011 ELANTRA LIMITED. EVERY OTHER TIRE SET I HAVE PURCHASED FOR OTHER VEHICLES WOULD LAST 40-50K MILES OR MORE, BUT WITH THIS CAR, I WAS ONLY GETTING ~25K MILES PER SET. I WAS ON MY THIRD SET OF TIRES(NOT DISCOUNT TIRES, THREE DIFFERENT BRANDS AS WELL) WITH ONLY ~78K MILES WHEN THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE HAD A SIDEWALL BLOWOUT. I WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE PURCHASED A SPARE (THE DEALER LIED AND TOLD ME IT HAD A SPARE WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR). HOWEVER, I WAS TRAVELING OUT OF TOWN WITH FAMILY AND THIS CAUSED SEVERAL HOURS OF DELAY AS I HAD TO FIND ANOTHER TIRE PLACE TO PURCHASE A NEW TIRE FOR THE LONG TRIP. I WAS ALSO FORTUNATE THAT THE BLOWOUT OCCURRED WHILE GETTING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, SO MY VEHICLE SPEED WAS NOT HIGH AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. *TR
NO SPARE TIRE, JACK, OR LUG WRENCH WAS SUPPLIED WITH THIS CAR. APPARENTLY SEVERAL OTHER MANUFACTURERS ARE DOING THE SAME, OSTENSIBLY TO SAVE ON WEIGHT AND ACHIEVE A HIGHER MPG RATING. THIS AUTOMOBILE WAS SOLD TO MY 21 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO HAD A BLOWOUT. HAD SHE BEEN IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION IT COULD EASILY HAVE RESULTED IN ASSAULT AND/OR DEATH FROM A CRIME OF OPPORTUNITY. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE CONSUMER PROTECTION AGENCY AND WITH HYUNDAI. PLEASE STOP AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURERS FROM PRACTICING THIS POTENTIALLY CRIMINALLY NEGLIGENT SALES PRACTICE IMMEDIATELY. DAMAGED A TIRE AND FOUND NO SPARE TIRE IN TRUNK! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI ELANTRA TOURING EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR ASSURANCE TIRES SIZE 215-45-R17, DOT PJ63JU11711. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE DRIVER REAR TIRE BLEW OUT AND A FEW DAYS LATER, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE ALSO BLEW OUT. THE TIRES WERE INSPECTED AND IT WAS FOUND THAT THE SIDEWALLS WERE CRACKED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000 AND THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,380.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT COME EQUIPPED WITH A SPARE TIRE AND EXPRESSED CONCERNS OVER BEING STRANDED WITH A FLAT TIRE. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE A SPARE TIRE SEPARATELY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5.
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE TWO DIFFERENT CONTINENTAL CONTIPRO CONTACT TIRES SIZE: 215 45 R17 DUE TO SIDEWALL DAMAGE. (BUBBLES ON SIDEWALLS). CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW 6 MONTHS AGO AND ONLY HAS 6,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN FIRST TIRE NEEDED REPLACED CAR HAD ABOUT 3,000 MILES. THAT WAS THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT. THE ONE THIS WEEK WAS THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 27 YEARS. AND PRIOR TO THIS HAVE ONLY HAD ONE TIRE WITH A PROBLEM THE SIDEWALL AND THAT WAS OVER 20 YEARS AGO. AGAIN, SECOND TIRE NEEDING REPLACED FOR BUBBLES ON SIDEWALL ON A 6 MONTH OLD CAR WITH 6,000 MILES. TIRE DEALER SAID THEY SEE ALOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE "45" TIRES. THESE TIRES ARE BEING PUT ON MANY BRANDS OF CARS AS STANDARD EQUIPMENT. AS THEY WERE ON MINE. IT DOES NOT SEEM LIKE THESE TIRES ARE SAFE. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM. THERE WAS A MOBILITY KIT AND INSTRUCTIONS IN THE OWNERS MANUAL ON HOW TO INSTALL THE SPARE TIRE, BUT THERE WAS NO SPARE IN THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO ADVISED THAT THEY COULD POSSIBLY COME OUT WITH AN INSTRUCTIONAL SPARE TIRE KIT IN THE FUTURE. NO OTHER INFORMATION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120.
