Engine Rod defective .. car completely stopped working on highway . Had towed to dealer for $300 and dealer said 8.9k to replace engine.

The vehicle has what is called "auto idle," which means that when the brake is fully depressed under certain conditions (ie a stop sign or a red traffic light), the engine turns itself off. The engine is supposed to start again when pressure is lifted from the brake.

We just bought a 2016 Pilot that has the auto stop/start idle feature a week ago. It has already stalled twice- once in a drive thru and once at a light. It was really scary both times - the engine shuts completely off and I had to put it in park & restart the engine.

On November 27, 2021 at approximately 12 noon, while driving on I95 south in North Carolina. We came to a slow crawl then a stop. The vehicle stalled and wouldn't turn on.

This car has an auto idle feature that, when the brake is pushed down at a stop, the car engine stops but then restarts either when the brake is disengaged or after a certain period of time. At that point, the car engine restarts. Since owning this car, I have reported to the dealer the issue with the auto idle which is a clicking sound and the radio cutting out when the car restarts.

Even with "auto start" off, the engine will and has died multiple times at freeway speed, causing a huge safety issue as the vehicle suddenly decelerates with no power; this is an often reported problem (google it) that ranges from dying from a stop to dying while in motion. This oft reported problem needs to be addressed by Honda, but they say they're unaware of this issue. They are lying.

When I stop and the car has the "auto-engine shut off" turned on, when I press the button to disable the "auto-engine shut off"; the pilot completely turns off and all warning lights are thrown up on the display. I then attempt to turn on the pilot by pressing the start button and it takes a couple of attempts to restart the pilot.

Occasionally, the engine does not automatically re-start after the idle engages. This has happened multiple times over the last couple of years. The result is a stalled vehicle, sometimes at busy intersections.

On Friday, January 30th, I took my car into Bill Pearce Courtesy Honda in Reno NV, to get a pretty big service done for $3400. Basically the 100k service with new timing belt, spark plugs, etc. I wanted to make sure that this car would last 3-5 more years.

The dealership said they received 4 other 2016 Honda Pilots this week where the VIN wasn't in the range but the same issue.

There was a recall on the fuel injectors system and now this problem is causing the computer system to send false codes to the car and then the warning “fuel emissions problem signs turns on showing false code problems and then they go off and back on” In April I had fuel injections done and now in December I got the emissions system problem signal and was told at a honda service location that it was faulty Catalina converter problem but the emissions system problem signal tuned off on its own a day later, mean while the honda service place told me it would cost me $2287 to correct a problem that didn’t need to get repaired it’s this faulty emissions system computer system that needs to be updated on all these vehicles with this emission system problem.

Occasionally, when the vehicle is stopped at a stop sign, or stoplight, the idle stop will engage and shut off the engine. When releasing brake pedal, engine will not restart. Vehicle must be placed in park, brake pedal depressed very hard and then attempt to restart.

Issue: Auto Stop / Start feature on 2016 Honda Pilot Touring does not re-engage / start the car after being idle from a stop. This is a repeated issue that has been occurring intermittently since I bought the car brand new. I have taken it to the dealer multiple times and they state they can't replicate so can't fix.

O2 sensor in regards to fuel injector recall. Fuel Injector failure with 55,000 miles on injectors. All injectors replaced by dealer under recall.

won't start after idle stop, and I have reported to Honda Dealer Elcrrito service center they updated systems last three months back again its same issue and have now had this problem 4 times in the past 4-5 months while we stopped at a light, the idle stop will engage and shut off the engine, but then it won't start without completely turn off for a couple of minutes, this serious safety issue if this will happen the same issue at freeway then we don't know what to do.

I was stopped at a red light and my engine turned off from the idle/stop feature. However, when I released the brakes this time, the car did not turn on as it normally does. Instead, the whole vehicle turned off and it took me several tries to turn the vehicle back on.

Beginning in september of 2019, the pilot has completely shut off at least 8 times when the auto start/stop feature is on. What should happen is the engine auto shuts off but the electrical system and all other systems stay active. What is happening is the entire system has shut down and we need to restart the pilot.

Engine auto idle feature has repeatedly malfunctioned. Vehicle will sometimes not restart from the idle position. We have repeatedly taken it back to the dealership and they are unable to diagnose or fix the issue since it occurs intermittently.

This is a 2016 honda pilot and the engine stutters/judder between 30-50 miles per hour apparently it is a common problem, went to the dealer flushed the transmission was good for 6 months then back, I think there is a design problem as many are describing same problem

On friday, 2/21, the 'emissions system problem' came on my dash (again). Dropped it off at the dealer on monday, 2/24. We were told the fuel injectors all needed to be replaced.

The vehicle was taken to heather cannon honda (3415 n 14th st., ponca city, ok) where it was diagnosed that an emissions system upgrade was needed and five of the six fuel injectors were faulty and needed to be replaced.

On 2 occasions, the automatic idle stop has turned off the engine and not allowed the car to be turned back on. One time the vehicle eventually restarted, but the second time the vehicle had to be jumped by highway patrol. It was at a busy interstate exit ramp, stopped at a stoplight, and we were unable to move the vehicle out of the way.

Complete engine failure, threw rod through block. Oil was changed in October, still has 2000 miles before needing changing again.

My engine has failed at ~104K miles after regular and consistent maintenance. The failure (rod bearing) matches Recall 23V751 but my VIN was excluded.

Driving the car the engine bearing went out and wrecked the engine. I had to replace the engine.

The V6 3.5L engine in the 2016 Honda Pilot EX-L sounds horrible when shifting. It sounds like it is sticking, and in a way lurches. It is especially noticeable around 40mph, but you can audibly hear it shift at all gears.

The engine started to knock. Upon taking it to an independent inspection it was determined to be the rod bearings and crankshaft. We find it to be consistent with the sympthoms described in the investigation RE25008 opened in August 20, 2025.

Engineer appears to have seized while driving in the mountains. I was able to pull off to the side but the steering and braking was very hard and we were going 55mph with a car full on our way back from camping. I had my family in the car and I’m thankful there wasn’t a disaster that happened due to the failure.

I own a 2016 Honda Pilot Elite and I was driving it in March of 2024 when my engine started making a low ticking sound, after about 2 weeks it gradually got louder and louder. It felt like it didn't want to accelerate, meaning it took more force down on the pedal to get it to drive. On the last drive in it the engine shifted so hard it shook the whole vehicle feeling as if I was hit from behind.
