NHTSA Campaign: 14E049000
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
Delphi Automotive Systems, LLC (Delphi) is recalling certain replacement fuel pump modules, part number FG1155-11B1, sold for use in 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey vehicles. The affected fuel pump may send an incorrect fuel reading to the fuel gauge possibly causing the vehicle to run out of fuel. The fuel gauge will always read 3/4 full to full regardless of the actual level.
Risk: A vehicle that runs out of fuel and stalls has an increased risk of a crash.
Fix: Delphi has begun notifying dealers and distributors, and will replace the fuel pump modules, free of charge. Owners may contact Delphi customer service at 1-877-411-8770. Delphi's number for this recall is GL14-004.
NHTSA Campaign: 14V112000
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) is recalling certain 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured June 23, 2004, through September 4, 2010. In the affected vehicles, the fuel pump strainer cover may deteriorate allowing fuel to leak out.
Risk: A fuel leak increases the risk of a fire.
Fix: Parts to permanently repair the affected vehicles are not currently available. Honda will notify owners with an interim letter during May 2014. A second notice was mailed to owners October 6, 2014 when the remedy became available. Any vehicles that are currently leaking from the fuel pump cover will get a replacement, original cover. All vehicles, including those receiving the interim repair, will get an improved cover when they are available. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009. The recall numbers associated with this campaign are JD9 (inspection and/or preliminary part replacement) and JE0 (final parts replacement).
NHTSA Campaign: 12V062000
Component: STRUCTURE:BODY:HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE
HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2009 ODYSSEY VEHICLES, THE GAS-FILLED STRUTS THAT HELP TO RAISE AND SUPPORT THE LIFTGATE OF VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A POWER LIFTGATE SYSTEM MAY BE PRONE TO EARLY LIFE FAILURES DUE TO A MANUFACTURING FLAW. THE FLAW CAN RESULT IN A LEAK OF THE PRESSURIZED GAS, LEADING TO REDUCED STRUT PERFORMANCE.
Risk: STRUTS WITH DIMINISHED PERFORMANCE CAN LEAD TO UNEXPECTED CLOSURE, INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY.
Fix: HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE BOTH POWER LIFTGATE GAS STRUTS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 12, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.
NHTSA Campaign: 13V500000
Component: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE
American Honda Motor Company (Honda) is recalling certain model year 2007-2008 Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured August 8, 2006, through September 8, 2008. Due to a combination of system components and software, the Vehicle Safety Assist System (VSA) may apply the brakes unexpectedly.
Risk: The vehicle may suddenly and unexpectedly brake hard, and without illuminating the brake lights, increasing the risk of a crash from behind.
Fix: Parts to remedy these vehicles will not be available until the spring of 2014. Honda will send owners an interim letter notifying them of the issue and instruct them how to prevent unintended braking. A second notification will be sent when the parts become available. Interim notification was mailed in December 2013. The recall began on April 29, 2014. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009 or visit their website at www.recalls.honda.com. Honda's recall number is JC5.
NHTSA Campaign: 10V098000
Component: SERVICE BRAKES, AIR
HONDA HAS NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A DEFECT IN CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007 AND 2008 ODYSSEY AND ELEMENT PASSENGER VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JULY 28, 2006 AND AUGUST 21, 2008. AIR CAN ENTER THE VSA MODULAR PUMP DURING AN INITIAL SELF-CHECK PROCESS THAT OCCURS SHORTLY AFTER EACH TIME THE ENGINE IS STARTED. IT IS POSSIBLE FOR ENOUGH AIR TO ENTER THE SYSTEM TO RESULT IN A BRAKE PEDAL THAT FEELS SOFT OR LOWER TO THE FLOOR.
Risk: IF THE OWNER DOES NOT HAVE ANY BRAKE SERVICE OR MAINTENANCE PERFORMED OVER A PERIOD OF MONTHS OR YEARS, THE SYSTEM CAN CONTINUE TO ACCUMULATE ENOUGH AIR TO AFFECT BRAKING PERFORMANCE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Fix: HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNER AND HONDA DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE VSA MODULATOR BY REMOVING ANY EXISTING AIR IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM THEN APPLY SEALANT AND CAPS TO PREVENT AIR FROM ENTERING THE BRAKE SYSTEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 3, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

Service Brakes →3 issues
Your Odyssey is making a grinding noise from the front brakes, and the braking system is unexpectedly activating on its own, causing the vehicle to suddenly stop while driving. The front brake rotors were replaced but the problem continued. Your dealer diagnosed a faulty ABS module that needs replacement, though the part is currently on backorder.

Your brake pedal feels soft and sinks almost to the floor when you press it while driving. This is a serious safety issue that needs immediate attention, as your brakes may not respond properly in an emergency stop. The problem could involve your brake fluid, brake lines, or master cylinder, and a mechanic should inspect your entire brake system right away.

Your brake pedal feels soft and spongy, causing your car to need much longer distances to stop—you might roll through stop signs or lights if you don't start braking earlier than usual. Even though a new master cylinder was installed as part of a previous recall, the problem continues. When tested on jack stands, only two of your four wheels are actually braking; the other two wheels spin freely even when the brake pedal is pressed, indicating the brake fluid isn't reaching those calipers. The fix will likely involve diagnosing and repairing the brake line distribution system or the proportioning valve that sends fluid to all four wheels.

Your rear sliding door suddenly detached and fell to the ground while you were opening it, causing a foot injury that required medical attention. You noticed the door was only held in place by two small arms at the front and a wheel on the track, with nothing securing the rear end. The dealer said there was no recall, and Honda has opened a case to investigate the issue.

Your sliding door's rear latch actuator can fail, causing the door to unlatch and slide open while driving—especially during acceleration, braking, or turning. This is a serious safety risk, particularly with children seated near the door opening. The latch actuator will need to be replaced or rebuilt to restore proper door function and prevent unexpected door opening.

Starting in 2019, the paint on your Odyssey's body began peeling off in the area between the moonroof and windshield, and the affected area has been growing larger over time. This is a cosmetic issue affecting the paint finish in that specific location. Fixing this would likely involve sanding down the affected area and repainting it to match the rest of the body.

Engine →3 issues
You smelled a burning odor while driving, and smoke began coming from the front of your vehicle. You safely pulled over and exited, but the front end caught fire with flames and liquid dripping underneath. The fire department responded and extinguished the blaze, and your insurance company declared the vehicle a total loss. This occurred just eight days after the dealer serviced your power steering hose for a leak.

Your engine is revving up unexpectedly when you're trying to slow down or stop. In one incident, the engine jumped to 2,000 RPM while braking at a traffic light, nearly causing a collision. In another incident, the engine wouldn't idle normally at 2,000 RPM when turning into your driveway, and when shifted to neutral, it surged to 4,000 RPM. This could indicate a problem with your idle control system or throttle components that needs professional diagnosis and repair.

Your 2008 Honda Odyssey has faulty piston rings that can rotate out of alignment, causing your engine to burn excessive oil and foul out your spark plugs prematurely. This issue has affected many vehicles across multiple Honda models, and Honda has settled a class-action lawsuit related to this problem. The repair will likely involve removing and replacing the piston rings or potentially rebuilding the engine.

Air Bags,tires →1 issue
While driving at 45 mph, your front passenger tire suddenly came off the vehicle, which triggered your driver's side airbag to deploy without any warning light appearing on your dashboard. After the airbag deployed, your vehicle lost control and crashed into a cement wall, causing you to sustain injuries including swollen lips and cuts to your face. The issue may involve problems with the wheel attachment hardware or a defective tire, and a repair would likely require wheel hub inspection, lug nut replacement, and tire/wheel service.

Fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your car had a fuel pump filter housing recall, but when you took it to the dealer, they didn't replace the part. You later noticed a gasoline smell and found a crack in the fuel filter housing. Both the dealer and Honda USA refused to fix it, saying it wasn't their responsibility since they hadn't done the original work. According to Honda's recall notice, the fuel filter set on the fuel pump assembly should be replaced as a fire hazard fix.
