FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
HONDA IS RECALLING 128 MY 2008-2009 CIVIC SEDANS. A BRACKET THAT COVERS THE FUEL HOSE CONNECTOR IS SECURED WITH A BOLT AND NUT, BUT DURING ASSEMBLY THE NUT WAS NOT INSTALLED.
Fix: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NUT ON THE FUEL FEED HOSE BRACKET. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 13, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic Si Coupe. The contact stated while driving approximately 65mph when the dashboard began to emit smoke. The contact was able to pull over and shut off the vehicle. Upon inspection, the contact stated that the wiring harness beneath the steering wheel was melted. The vehicle was towed to an insurance lot and is awaiting diagnosis. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with, NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V535000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) however the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of failure and told the contact that they were unable to assist. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
GAS TANK LEAKS WHEN FILLED, DRIVING OR SITTING. SEAL ON TANK TO FILLER NECK. GAVE NO CODE ON THE EMISSION SYSTEM AND PASSED SMOKE TEST AT REPAIR SHOP. CONTACTED HONDA HEADQUARTERS. VIN NUMBER NOT LISTED ON FUEL TANK WARRANTY EXTENSION 11-0689. EXTENSION ON CIVIC 2006 TO 2011.
THE CAR KEEP ON SHUTTING OFF. CHECKED THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY ON MY DRIVEWAY. I FOUND OUT A BURNT ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR TO THE FUEL PUMP. IT MELTED PART OF THE FUEL PUMP CONTAINER. IT'S GOOD THE TANK WAS NOT FULL. IT COULD HAVE BLOWN THE TANK AND THE CAR. MY MECHANIC WOULD ATTEST FOR THIS. I FORGOT TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THE BURNT PART OF THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY. I STILL HAVE THE BURNT CONNECTOR THOUGH.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A LOOSE BOLT AND FUEL FUMES STARTED TO EMIT INTO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE NUT TO THE FUEL FUSE FEED HOSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V350000 (FUEL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FUEL WAS SLOWLY LEAKING OUT OF THE TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,990 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START DUE TO A DEFECTIVE FUEL VALVE. THE CONTACT TOWED THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER TO HAVE THE FUEL VALVE REPLACED. AFTER THE REPAIR THE CONTACT SMELLED FUEL INSIDE THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE WITH THE FUEL SMELL. LATER, THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,323.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK COVER LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT WHENEVER THE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, ALL SHE HAD TO DO WAS OPEN AND CLOSE THE FUEL TANK CAP. THE FAILURE RECURRED MANY TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER ON MANY OCCASIONS AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO PERFORM THE SAME REMEDY HERSELF. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE PROGRESSED UNTIL THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY LEAKED OIL AND COOLANT. THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED ONCE DUE TO WATER LEAKS AND THE HORN WAS REPLACED BECAUSE IT STOPPED FUNCTIONING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,009.

THE CONTACT SMELLED FUMES AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO REPAIRED THE FUEL LINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON HIS VEHICLE (RECALL INFORMATION WAS UNAVAILABLE). THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER FOR THE RECALL AND AFTER THE COMPONENT WAS REPAIRED, THE VEHICLE BEGAN GETTING LESS MPG THAN WHAT IT WAS PRIOR TO THE RECALL REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 35,200.
THIS IS NOW THE 2ND OCCASION IN WHICH I OWN A HONDA THAT HAS A LEAKY GAS TANK. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN 2007 WITH MY 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY THAT BEGAN SPONTANEOUSLY LEAKING GAS FROM A VALVE IN THE GAS TANK. IT WAS REPAIRED. LAST WEEK ON 09/09/10 I FILLED MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID UP WITH GAS AS NORMAL AND BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON IT WAS LEAKING ENOUGH GAS TO MAKE THE SMELL IN THE GARAGE UNBEARABLE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE LINE FROM WHERE THE GAS IS PUT IN BY THE USER AND WHERE IT MEETS THE GAS TANK IS DEFECTIVE AND HAS BEGUN LEAKING. BECAUSE THIS HOSE IS INTEGRATED IN TO THE GAS TANK - HONDA IS REPLACING THE ENTIRE GAS TANK. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR THIS REPAIR TO BE COMPLETED - BUT BECAUSE IT HAS NOW HAPPENED TO ME IN TWO SEPARATE HONDA VEHICLES I HAVE SOME CONCERNS ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE GAS TANKS IN THE HONDA VEHICLES. *TR
