Took it to a shop, and was surprised that they told me that it was leaking engine coolant and that the block was cracked and that the engine needed to be fixed replaced. The contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, he noticed a strong coolant odor and that the temperature gauge was showing that the engine was overheating. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that coolant was leaking into the engine compartment. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine block was fractured, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer sent a diagnostic report to the manufacturer; however, the manufacturer declined to cover the repair and informed the dealer that an extended warranty coverage notice for the engine, was previously sent to the contact. The contact stated that he had not received the notice. The contact followed up with the manufacturer, but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 272,906.

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the vehicle started to overheat. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled into the gas station and allowed the vehicle to cool down. The contact then refilled coolant in the vehicle. The contact was able to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the part of the engine block located between with the alternator and the exhaust had fractured. The contact then contacted the dealer who informed him that the engine needed to be replaced per the instructions on Honda Technical Service Bulletin Number: 10-048. However, the dealer advised the contact that the 10 year extended warranty had expired and he had to pay out-of-pocket for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

My car overheated last week and now has a cracked engine. Yes, my car is available for inspection but my car will be repaired in a couple days. My safety was put at risk since my car gave me no warning signs of overheating. I had absolutely no problems with this car beforehand and out of nowhere my engine cracked and my car overheated. I was lucky that my car didn't start steaming and breaking down. The problem has not been confirmed by a dealer, I am trying to work that out with them since this years model has a recall for overheating. It has been, however, confirmed by my mechanic that my mileage is extremely low for this to happen and to call Honda for reimbursement. The vehicle has been inspected by my local mechanic. There were absolutely no warning signs of my car overheating other than my air conditioning malfunctioning, that was the only sign of overheating that I had other than it showing on the temperature bar on the left side of my cars dashboard that the temperature was too high. My car overheated on Thursday (7/14) and the first sign that something was wrong was when my AC malfunctioned on Tuesday (7/12). I took my car straight to a mechanic on Thursday when I saw my car overheating.

My temperature gauge for the coolant went to the highest mark and then my car overheated. At the time, I was driving really early in the morning and in a secluded area where it would be difficult to obtain help. Eventually I pulled over and noticed there was a coolant leak. My coolant was near empty. I took my car to a mechanic and found out that the engine block was cracked. I have had the car for approximately 3 months. My mechanic told me that this is a common occurrence with this model. I had no idea. The vehicle is available for request upon inspection.

While driving to work, the owner noticed a smoke coming out of the hood. The owner also noticed that engine temperature shot all the way up indicating that the engine might be overheating. Upon taking to a nearest auto shop, the owner was told that the engine block has a crack which is causing leak. Honda is aware of this issue and has provided extended warranty for 10 more years from the date of purchase. Unfortunately, the owner experienced cracked engine block issue 14 years after the date of purchase - 4 years after the extended warranty had expired. Upon calling the dealership, the owner was informed to file a claim with North America Honda. If Honda was aware of cracked engine block, why did it not replace engines in all affected models and trim levels?

My 2008 Honda Civic engine block cracked on 09-08-2021. Honda had a class action settlement for this issue and extended the warranty 10 years from first purchased date a couple years ago. Well mine finally cracked and its been 13years from the first purchased date. So the repairs are not covered under the extended warranty. I feel Honda should still fix this issue regardless if the extended 10 year warranty is expired.

Having a lot of problems, coolant leaking, when in park. Power steering, engine idles when in park and at a stop light.When passing on the brake the car idles so have to push really hard on brake. Passenger air bag light never turns on. Ac blows hot air then cold then hot again. The car makes a really loud noise from the engine and wants to go even in neutral or if my foot is on the brake. Windshield leaks when it rains, roof trip flaps all over the place. Passenger door locks will not unlock except if you manually push it. Head lights flicker and the growling noise from the hood is really scary

PUTTING A USED ENGINE INTO THE VEHICLE IS NOT GOING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, AND MY DEALERSHIP IS NOT WILLING TO PUT A NEW ONE IN. WHEN IT BEGAN OVERHEATING, I HAD JUST PULLED ONTO THE HIGHWAY (AVERAGE SPEED OF ABOUT 50) AND NOTICED THAT MY HEAT WASN'T WORKING (WHICH WAS WEIRD SINCE I HAD REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT ALREADY A FEW WEEKS PRIOR) AND THEN THE CAR READ AS HOT AS POSSIBLE. WHEN I SAFELY PULLED OVER, THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND IT WAS TOWED TO A RELIABLE MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WAS THE COOLANT LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE BLOCK, BUT WAS NOT PART OF THE WARRANTY ANYMORE.

DROVE TO NEAREST HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENT & AT SERVICE (VIA PRESSURE TEST OF ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM) A CRACK IN ENGINE BLOCK BETWEEN CYL. 1 & 2 WAS LOCATED. I WAS TOLD BY SERVICE TECH THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF ENGINE BLOCK CRACK/ DEFECT & INSTEAD OF ISSUING A SERVICE RECALL WHAT THEY DID WAS A WARRANTY EXTENSION OF 10 YEARS. HOWEVER, THAT WARRANTY EXPIRED 2 YEARS AGO. SERVICE MANAGER CALLED AMERICAN HONDA CORP. FOR GOODWILL ASSISTANCE TO TRY & HELP WITH REPAIRS BUT AMERICAN HONDA REJECTED/ DECLINED THE REQUEST & HAS LEFT ME WITHOUT A VEHICLE. I AM NOT ABLE TO PAY FOR A NEW ENGINE. I HAVE NO CAR FOR WORK, FOR MY MOM/ DAD DOCTOR VISITS/ FOR SUPERMARKET/ FOR LIFE. COSTS OF REPAIR ARE ARE ABOVE $5,000. I WAS THE 2ND OWNER OF MY 2008 CIVIC & WAS NOT NOTIFIED BY HONDA OF THE WARRANTY EXTENSION OR OF A POSSIBLE RECALL NOTIFICATION OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE. HONDA CORP DENIED ME ASSISTANCE BECAUSE VEHICLE AGE IS PAST THEIR 10 YEAR EXTENSION PERIOD. I'M SECOND OWNER ON THIS VEHICLE AND DIDN'T REALIZE THERE WAS A POTENTIAL ENGINE MANUFACTURING DEFECT WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR (FIRST OWNER DID NOT DISCLOSE THIS). ESTIMATED KBB VALUE WAS $4500-5000 WHICH NOW IS A NEAR TOTAL LOSS AND SALVAGE VALUE. COST FOR REPAIR IS EQUAL OR HIGHER THAN RETAIL VALUE. VEHICLE HAS WELL DOCUMENTED SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE RECORD. SEEMS UNFAIR FOR THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT TO PLACE ALL THE COST ON THE OWNER WHEN THERE IS NO OWNER CAUSE FOR THIS PROBLEM.

BECAUSE I DRIVE SO LITTLE MILES PER YEAR, PROBLEM HAPPENED JUST AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THEY HAD TO 'RESOLVE' THIS PROBLEM FOR OWNERS. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS AND NOT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. BEING THAT A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THIS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AS THERE WAS SO MUCH SMOKE POURING OUT I COULD NOT SEE IN FRONT OF ME THERE NEEDS TO BE AN INVESTIGATION ON THESE ENGINES. I WAS ON A CITY STREET WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND IT IS HAPPENING OVER 100000 MILES TO MOST PEOPLE. I SEARCH THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT TIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH HONDA CIVIC FROM 2006 AND 2009 AND THERE WAS A TSB 10-048 FROM HONDA. SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE SECOND-HAND I DID NOT RECEIVE THE INFORMATION FROM HONDA ABOUT THE ENGINE DEFECT. THEY OFFERED A 10-YEAR WARRENTY BUT I HAVE EXCEED THIS BY 15 MONTHS.

TAKATA RECALL I CAME HOME FROM A 200 MILE TRIP & NOTICED COOLANT LEAKING FROM ENGINE WHEN I GOT OFF MY CAR AT MY HOUSE. THE ENGINE DID NOT GET HOT OR DID THE TEMPERATURE GAGE MOVE TO INDICATE ENGINE WAS HOT. I HAVE OWNED MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC SINCE 09/05/2009 & NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES. I REMEMBERED I HAD A LETTER FROM HONDA MAILED TO ME ABOUT 10 YR EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE ENGINE OF MY CIVIC . I DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH THE ENGINE UP UNTIL JULY 2018. I WAS IN DISBELIEF THAT THE WARRANTY HAD ALREADY BEEN EXPIRED. I WAS SO UPSET THAT I ALWAYS TOOK GOOD CARE OF MY CAR. I CHANGED OIL WHEN IT WAS SUPPOSED TO FLUIDS WERE NEVER LOW. I NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES UNTIL AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED. IT WAS NOT MY FAULT AND THERE WAS NOT ANYTHING I COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT THE ENGINE BLOCK FROM CRACKING SINCE IT WAS A KNOWN DEFECT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP 50 MILES AWAY ON A FLAT BED TRAILER TO GET IT DIAGNOSED. THE DEALERSHIP SAID WARRANTY EXPIRED GAVE ME A BILL STATING ,SHORT ENGINE BLOCK ,RADIATOR ASSY, THERMOSTAT, RADIATIOR HOSES, BYPASS HOSES, TOTAL COST $7504.99 PARTS & LABOR HONDA WOULD COVER PORTION OF THE BILL. THEY DIDNT STATE WHAT PORTION OF THE BILL OR HOW MUCH OF THE BILL THEY WOULD COVER. I AM OUTRAGED THAT I PAID $16,450.00 FOR A HONDA CIVIC WITH A DEFECTIVE ENGINE. HONDA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THE DEFECT IT HAS ON ITS ENGINES AND SOLD ME A HARD WORKING AMERICAN CONSUMER A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. HONDA SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIER LEAKING COOLANT ENGINE PRODUCT. INSTEAD OF OFFERING TO PAY A PORTION OF THE BILL SINCE IT WAS NOT MY FAULT . I HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING WITHOUT A VEHICLE SINCE JULY 2018 I WILL NEVER BUY A HONDA AGAIN.

I WAS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR SPURTING FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING, SO THEY SUGGESTED THAT I TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH I DID. IT WAS THE IDLER CAUSING PROBLEMS. I ASKED ONE OF THE EMPLOYEE HANDLING MY CAR THAT MORNING IF THERE HAD BEEN ANY RECALLS OR PROBLEMS WITH THE HONDA CIVIC CARS AND I WAS TOLD NO. THEN I WENT ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THERE HAD BEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE ENGINE BLOCK CRACKING AND HAVING TO BE REPLACED. SINCE I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE, I NEED TO KNOW WHAT TO DO NOW IN TERMS OF REIMBURSEMENT.

MY USED 2008 HONDA CIVIC WAS OVERHEATING AND I DROPPED IT OFF AT MY GARAGE FOR EVALUATION. ON 2/14/2019, MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT MY ENGINE BLOCK WAS CRACKED AND WAS UNDER WARRANTY. I CONTACTED NORTH AMERICAN HONDA, INC. AND REQUESTED THEY REPLACE THE ENGINE UNDER WARRANTY. THEY REFUSED AS THE CAR WAS TOTALED AND SALVAGED. I HAD NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WITH 2006-2009 CIVIC ENGINES AND THE WARRANTY. HAD I BEEN NOTIFIED BY HONDA, WHEN MY CAR WAS TOTALED IN 2014 BECAUSE OF A SEVERE HAIL STORM, I WOULD HAVE ACCEPTED THE $10,000 FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND BOUGHT A REPLACEMENT CAR. SINCE MY CAR IN 2014 WAS SIX YEARS OLD, I THOUGHT THAT ALL WARRANTIES HAD EXPIRED LONG AGO AND SALVAGING THE CAR APPEARED TO BE A GOOD DEAL. I GOT $10K AND HAD A MECHANICALLY AND OPERATIONALLY SOUND VEHICLE WITH LOW MILEAGE. RESEARCH HAS SINCE SHOWN THAT HUNDREDS OF CIVIC OWNERS WERE NOT NOTIFIED AND HONDA ROUTINELY STRICTLY ENFORCES THE WARRANTY. FOR FOUR YEARS HONDA WAS SELLING A DEFECTIVE CAR AND DOING EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO HIDE FROM THE PUBLIC. MANY OWNERS RECOUNTED THE CAR JUST SHUTTING DOWN ON THEM. I OFTEN DROVE IN 70MPH SPEED LIMIT ZONES ON THE PA TURNPIKE IN HEAVY COMMUTER TRAFFIC. HAD MY ENGINE SHUT DOWN SUDDENLY THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT POSSIBILITY THAT I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IN THE SUBSEQUENT ACCIDENT. THIS WAS OBVIOUSLY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY NHTSA DID NOT FORCE HONDA TO ISSUE A PROVISIONAL RECALL. ALSO, HONDA SHOULD HAVE ISSUED AN UNLIMITED WARRANTY INSTEAD OF RESTRICTING THE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE. IT APPEARS TO BE A CASE OF UNFAIR AND DECEPTIVE BUSINESS PRACTICE AT BEST AND OUTRIGHT FRAUD AT THE WORST.

THE REASON THE ENGINE BLOCK CRACKED WAS BECAUSE HONDA USED A CHEAPER METAL. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US IT WOULD COST AROUND $6,000 BECAUSE THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY ENDED. MY MOTHER AND I WERE STRANDED FOR 4 DAYS WHILE WE WAITED THIS OUT. BUT STILL A LOT OF 2006-2009 HONDA CIVICS ARE FACING THIS ISSUE EVEN AT VERY LOW MILES LIKE MINE. MINE HAS 166,000 MILES. I CHECKED WITH THE SERVICE CONSULTANT IF THIS WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. SHE DID A VIN INQUIRY AND SAID THAT MAY CAR IS STILL IN WARRANTY (THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE DATE OF THE CAR WAS 20-APRIL- 2008 AND THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED TO ME ON -15 MARCH-2018). THIS IS A BIG BLOW TO ME. THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN IS 10-048 AND I THINK HONDA IS JUST AVOIDING RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE THE ENGINE DUE TO THE SALVAGE TITLE TECHNICALITY. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HONDA AND I OWN THREE NOW. MY CAR WAS ONLY 9 YEARS OLD WITH ONLY 64,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. HONDA SERVICE ACKNOWLEDGED THE ENGINE OVERHEATED DUE TO COOLANT SEEPAGE BUT UNFORTUNATELY THEY REFUSED TO HONOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THEY OFFERED ORIGINALLY. AND WAS DENIED ON THE BASIS THAT THE INVOICES HAD THE PREVIOUS DIAGNOSIS LISTED THAT WAS INCORRECT, BELOW THE CORRECT DIAGNOSIS OF A CRACKED ENGINE. HONDA IS NOT HONORING THEIR RECALL REFUND IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. HONDA THEN ATTEMPTED TO OFFER ME A COUPON FOR FUTURE SERVICE REPAIRS, CLEARLY SHOWING THAT THEY RECOGNIZE I HAD A CASE, HOWEVER SIMPLY DID NOT WANT TO PAY OUT THE PRICE OF THE REPLACED ENGINE. HEAD OF THE TENSION BOLT FOR THE IDLER PULLEY BROKE WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE, AND THAT THEY COULD EITHER DRILL IT OUT, OR IT WAS STUCK AND A NEW ENGINE BLOCK WAS NEEDED. IN THIS CASE A NEW BLOCK WAS NEEDED. DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE REVEALED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS BOLT BREAKING ON THE 2006 CIVIC, WHICH IS OF THE SAME GENERATION AND HAS THE SAME ENGINE AS MY 2008 CIVIC. MY CAR ONLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 86,000 MILES ON IT. HAD THE IDLER PULLEY COME OFF AFTER THE BOLD HEAD HAD BROKE, THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE FACT THAT THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN RECALLED IN A PREVIOUS MODEL YEAR, AND PERSISTS THROUGH A FUTURE MODEL YEAR MAKES ME WORRY ABOUT OTHERS. THE BOLT IS ALSO NOT SOMETHING THAT IS CALLED FOR TO BE REGULARLY REPLACED. CALLING HONDA YIELDED NO ASSISTANCE OR CONCERN IN THIS MATTER.

I WAS REAR ENDED AT LOW SPEED AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER. THE BUMPER WAS REPLACED AND WHEN I GOT MY CAR BACK, I STARTED NOTICING CHANGES IN VISION, HEADACHES, AND HEARING LOSS. ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER, I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH WHEN I STARTED FEELING FAINT. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THOUGHT I WAS WELL ENOUGH TO DRIVE. I GOT BACK ON THE HIGHWAY AND STARTED TO FEEL WORSE. MY VISION DIMMED, MY LEFT HAND STARTED CRAMPING, I STARTED SWEATING AND SHAKING, AND A VERY NEARLY FAINTED WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND CALL 911 AND WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE DOCTORS COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH ME. THE FOLLOWING WEEK, I HAD ISSUES WITH FORGETFULNESS, DISORIENTATION, AND IMPAIRED VISION AND HEARING. MY ROOMMATE, WHO DROVE THE CAR HOME FROM WHERE I LEFT IT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL, ALSO FELT STRANGE AFTER SHE DROVE IT. I'VE SINCE BEEN TO A NEUROLOGIST AND A CARDIOLOGIST AND NEITHER CAN FIND AN ISSUE WITH ME AND AGREE IT MUST BE SOMETHING RELATED TO THE CAR. THE LONGER I'VE BEEN AWAY FROM THE CAR, THE BETTER I'VE FELT. I'VE TAKEN THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND A DEALERSHIP AND NEITHER CAN FIND THE SOURCE OF THE ISSUE. IT'S NOT CARBON MONOXIDE (I HAVE A SENSITIVE DETECTOR IN MY CAR), BUT IT HAS TO BE SOME SUBSTANCE. THE INDEPENDENT SHOP FOUND A HOLE IN THE SEALING AROUND THE REAR QUARTER PANEL, WHICH WAS RESEALED, BUT I DROVE IT THIS WEEKEND AND STARTED HAVING ISSUES AGAIN. I WAS TRAVELING AT ABOUT 60 MPH WHEN SOMETHING CAME OUT OF THE AIR VENTS. IMMEDIATELY AFTER BREATHING IT, I FELT STRANGE AGAIN AND MY VISION AND HEARING ARE AGAIN IMPAIRED. I AM ABOUT TO JUNK THE CAR AND SELL IT FOR SCRAPS BECAUSE I DON'T WANT ANYONE ELSE BECOMING ILL FROM DRIVING IT. THERE ARE NO LIGHTS TO INDICATE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT CLEARLY THERE IS. I HAVE A 2008 HONDA CIVIC SEDAN. SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW THE AIR CONDITIONER NEVER WORKED PROPERLY. THE SYMPTOM THAT I NOTICED WAS A LACK OF WATER DRIPPING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR (FROM THE EVAPORATOR COIL). I ASKED HONDA ABOUT IT WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR A ROUTINE VISIT AND THEY SAID IT WAS FINE AND THE AIR TEMPERATURE FROM THE VENT WAS IN SPEC. THE CAR WAS COOLING SO I NEVER WORRIED ABOUT IT MUCH. AT 75K MILES THE A/C COMPRESSOR JUST STOPPED WORKING. THE A/C SYSTEM HAD A FULL CHARGE BUT THE COMPRESSOR WOULDN'T COMPRESS THE GAS TO ALLOW THE REFRIGERANT TO FLASH COOL. I HAD A TAKE IT TO LOCAL CAR REPAIR PLACE TO HAVE THE A/C COMPRESSOR, EXPANSION VALVE, AND DRIER REPLACED. NOW AFTER SPENDING $$$$, THE A/C WORKS GREAT AND WATER DRIPS FROM CAR WHEN THE A/C IS ON. THE A/C SYSTEM FROM THE FACTORY SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE AND NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT IT. THERE SHOULD BE SERVICE BULLETIN OR RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR

UPON LEAVING MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT, I HAD DRIVEN APPROX 1 MILE TO A TRAFFIC SIGNAL AND NOTICED A SLIGHT VAPOR PLUME AT THE FRONT OF THE CAR. NOTED A SLIGHTLY ELEVATED COOLANT TEMP (3 LEDS ABOVE NORMAL) AND PULLED OVER. OPENING THE HOOD REVEALED A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK ON THE EXHAUST SIDE OF THE ENGINE BLOCK BEHIND AND TO THE RIGHT OF THE EXHAUST COLLECTOR. NO KIND OF ABUSE OR OVERHEATING HAS EVER OCCURRED WITH THIS ENGINE SINCE PURCHASED NEW. NO INDICATION OF A COOLANT LEAK WAS APPARENT UPON PARKING AT WORK BEFORE THIS DISCOVERY (NO ODOR, OR VAPOR PRESENT). A HIGH MILEAGE ENGINE YES. THE AIR CONDITIONER IS NO LONGER BLOWING ANY COLD AIR. WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE AIR COMPRESSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, ALONG WITH THE COILS, AND A/C CLUTCH ENGAGEMENT FOR THE AIR COMPRESSOR. VEHICLE IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND THERE IS NO EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THE COST OF REPLACING THE AIR COMPRESSOR. DISCUSSED WITH SEVERAL MECHANICS IN MY AREA AND HAVE SEEN FORUM DISCUSSIONS POSTED THAT HAVE SIMILAR ISSUES AND HAVE LISTED IT AS A "KNOWN ISSUE" BUT HONDA HAS NOT FORMALLY ACKNOWLEDGED. AFTER REPLACING THE MOUNTS (NOT CHEAP), MY CIVIC NO LONGER VIBRATES ON REVERSE. IT WAS DEFINITELY CRACKED MOUNTS THAT CAUSED THIS ISSUE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW IN 2008 AT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, AND ALWAYS TAKE GREAT CARE OF MY CAR AND MAKE SURE ALL SERVICE IS DONE ON TIME. NOTICED CAR WAS RUNNING LOUD WHEN STARTED AND LOUDER WHEN PUTTING IN REVERSE. BROUGHT CAR IN FOR 55,000 MILE SERVICE AND ALSO ASKED THEM TO CHECK OUT THE MOTOR MOUNTS, SINCE I HAD CHECK ON GOOGLE TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY ISSUES WITH 2008 CIVICS. YES CRACKED MOTOR MOUNTS IS AN ISSUE WITH 2007 AND 2008 CIVICS. SERVICE DEPARTMENT CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A CRACKED MOTOR MOUNT IN THE BACK OF THE ENGINE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF THIS CAR AND ALSO BRING IT IN FOR SERVICE ON TIME. VERY UPSET THAT THIS CAR ONLY HAS 54,702 MILES AND IT HAS A CRACKED MOTOR MOUNT. THIS CAR HAS BEEN IN A GARAGE FROM DAY ONE AND I ONLY DRIVE IT TO AND FROM WORK SINCE I PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN AND SHOULD BE LOOKED AT FOR A POSSIBLE RECALL. THIS CAR IS HOUSED IN FLORIDA AND DOES NOT HAVE THE WINTER ELEMENTS OF THE NORTH. AFTER 51,000+ MILES, THE RIGHT ENGINE MOTOR MOUNT ON MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC 2-DOOR COUPE FAILED. THE ENGINE VIBRATED WHEN THE ENGINE WAS COLD OR WHEN I FIRST STARTED IT IN THE MORNING. THERE WERE MINIMAL PROBLEMS AFTER THE ENGINE WARMED UP. TWO REPAIR SHOPS SAID THE MOTOR MOUNT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE MOUNT WITH A NEW ONE FROM THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN THE AREA. HE SAID THE DEALERSHIP HAD SOME IN STOCK, WHICH HE SAID WAS HIGHLY UNUSUAL BECAUSE THESE MOUNTS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE. THE PARTS PERSON AT THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT EVEN HAVE TO LOOK UP THE PART NUMBER, HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS NEEDED. BOTH OF THESE SUGGEST THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM, AND THE HONDA REPLACEMENT PART HAS BEEN REDESIGNED. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A MOTOR MOUNT ON ANY OF THE CARS I HAVE OWNED IN THE LAST 45+ YEARS. ALL OF THE ABOVE INFORMATION I HAVE PROVIDED INDICATES TO ME THAT THE MOUNT IS DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BY HONDA. *TR

A TIF 5000 DETECTOR WAS USED TO CHECK AND CONFIRM THE PRESENT OF R134A IN THE COOL AIR INSIDE THE CIVIC. THE CHECK WAS CARRIED OUT UNDER CONDITION THAT AC SYSTEM IS BLOWING CLOSED CIRCULATIUON AIR WITHIN THE CAR. I FELT THAT THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT MIGHT POST A GREATER RISK OF AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENTS FOR ELDERLY DRIVERS AS THE R134A, FREON, IS POISONOUS AND ONCE THE DRIVERS UNAWARE OF ITS PRESENT AND INHALE IT AND PHYSICALLY LOSE CONTROL OF THEIR VEHICLES. ESPECIALLY ELDERLY ONES ARE MORE VULNERABLE AND ACCIDENTS HAPPEN. THERE ARE MANY ACCIDENTS MIGHT BE DUE TO THIS TYPE OF AC DEFECT. CAR WILL NOT RELIABLY ACCELERATE SMOOTHLY FROM STANDSTILL (RED LIGHT) OR WHEN MERGING INTO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AT 40-50 MPH. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, VEHICLE MAY OR MAY NOT MOVE AT ACCEPTABLE SPEED CAUSING THE POTENTIAL TO ENTER TRAFFIC WITH INADEQUATE POWER TO GET UP TO SPEED OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC CREATING A HAZARDOUS SITUATION. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE PERFORMANCE IS NOW INCONSISTENT AND YOU DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT MAY NOT ACCELERATE AS NEEDED. HAD IT HAPPENED SOONER, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. I THINK HONDA SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THESE CARS RATHER THAN WAIT UNTIL A BREAKDOWN HAPPENS AND THEN DO REPAIRS. THE AC KNOB WAS TURNED ON, BUT THE BLOWER WAS NOT WORKING. THE COMPANY PERFORMED A "MANDATORY" SOFTWARE UPGRADE TO IMPROVE BATTERY LIFE IN SEPTEMBER 2010. SINCE THAT UPDATE, THE CAR HAS DRASTICALLY DIMINISHED RESPONSE TIME TO ACCELERATION, ESPECIALLY WHEN ATTEMPTING A SUDDEN BURST TO CHANGE LANES OR TURN THROUGH INTERSECTIONS. THE ENGINE ACTUALLY HAS ALMOST STALLED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START FROM A DEAD STOP. THIS RESPONSE TIME RESULTED IN A NEAR MISS WHILE ENTERING FREEWAY TRAFFIC DUE TO THE SLUGGISHNESS OF THE ENGINE WHEN REQUESTING ACCELERATION THAT, PRIOR TO THE SOFTWARE CHANGE, WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN A PROBLEM. IN AUGUST 2010 I TOOK MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. THE DEALER PERFORMED A PURPORTED SOFTWARE UPDATE ON THE BATTERY SYSTEM WITHOUT NOTIFYING ME UNTIL AFTERWARDS. IMMEDIATELY UPON LEAVING THE DEALER, I NOTICED A PROFOUND REDUCTION IN POWER AND ACCELERATION. ON THE FREEWAY PORTION OF THE DRIVE HOME, I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED TWICE AS I DROVE IN THE SLOW LANE UP A MINOR GRADE WHERE THE VEHICLE COULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 40 MILES PER HOUR (WITH THE PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED IN THE PASSING GEAR)-- PRIOR TO THIS DATE I HAD DRIVEN MY VEHICLE FOR ITS PRIOR 20 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP UP THAT SAME GRADE AT 70MPH. ADDITIONALLY, PRIOR TO THIS DATE I HAD NEVER EVEN UTILIZED THE "S" GEAR ON MY TRANSMISSION. EVER SINCE HONDA'S SOFTWARE UPDATE MY CAR HAS BECOME A SEVERELY UNDERPOWERED ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I AM REDUCED TO DRIVING IN THE SLOW LANE ON THE FREEWAY WITH VEHICLES FLASHING ME AS THEY APPROACH A 40-45 MPH VEHICLE AT 60-70 MPH FROM BEHIND. I HAVE CALLED THE HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AT SEVERAL LOCAL DEALERS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM, AND GET A UNIVERSAL RESPONSE- "WAIT FOR YOUR SYSTEM TO ADJUST TO THE SOFTWARE UPDATE" OR "YOU NEED TO ADJUST YOUR DRIVING". WHAT THE HECK DOES THIS MEAN? I DROVE THE VEHICLE FINE FOR 20 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE SOFTWARE UPDATE AND NOW IT DRIVES LIKE A 20 YEAR OLD 4 CYLINDER ENGINE WITH 2 BAD PISTONS. THE DECREASED POWER AND ACCELERATION ARE A DANGEROUS ACCIDENT IN THE MAKING. I AM FEARFUL OF BEING REAR ENDED. DEALER SAID THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN AND RAN A COUPLE OF SOFTWARE UPDATES AND SAID IT WAS WORKING AGAIN. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR THE PROBLEM RECURRED AND I RETURNED IT TO THE DEALER SAME DAY. THIS TIME THE DEALER DETERMINED IT WAS A CRACKED BLOCK. THEY SAID IT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE COOLANT SYSTEM AND IF I HAD CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE CAR IT WOULD HAVE OVERHEATED AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE DEALERSHIP WAS VERY HELPFUL AND GAVE ME A CAR TO DRIVE WHILE MINE WAS BEING REPAIRED. THEY SAID THAT THE NEW BLOCK WILL CONTINUE TO BE COVERED UNDER THE DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY. I JUST PURCHASED FULLY A 2008 HONDA CIVIC FROM HONDA OF BOWIE IN BOWIE MARYLAND ON AUG 22, 2008. I WENT TO CHARLOTTE, NC FOR THE HOLIDAYS. AFTER PARKING THE CAR I HAD TO MOVE IT 5 FEET. I DID NOT DRIVE THE CAR FOR 3 DAYS THEREAFTER. I PROCEEDED TO START THE CAR ON THE 3RD DAY AND IT WOULD NOT START. I LET THE CAR SIT AND THEN TRIED TO START IT AGAIN. THE LIGHTS STARTED TO DIM AND IT WOULD NOT START. I CALLED BOWIE AND TALKED TO BILL. HE INSTRUCTED ME TO CALLED HONDA IN CHARLOTTE AND HAVE IT TOWED AND HONDA WOULD "EAT THE COST". I DID AS INSTRUCTED. I TOWED IT AND THE SERVICE REP TRIED TO START IT AND SAID THIS MAY BE SERIOUS. THE MECHANIC PUT THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR, A CLOUD OF BLACK FOUL-SMELLING ODOR CAME OUT AND THE CAR STARTED UP. I CALLED BOWIE ON JANUARY 2, 2009, NO ONE WAS AVAILABLE, THEY SAY, TO SPEAK WITH ME, AND MR. WILLIAMSON WOULD NOT CALL ME BACK. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS INCIDENT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THIS WAS PURCHASED AS A BRAND NEW CAR. I DO NOT FILL SAFE IN THIS CAR!!! I AM IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO OBTAIN MY MONEY BACK FROM THIS DEALER. I AM A YOUNG WOMAN THAT TRAVELS ALOT AND BECAUSE I, AS A YOUNG WOMAN ON THE ROAD, WAS NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSIS MY CAR WITH DIMMING LIGHTS AND NOT STARTING UP, I HAD TO PAY THE TOWING WHICH WAS SUPPOSE TO BE UNDER THE WARRANTY. THERE NEEDS TO BE AN INVESTIGATION TO SEE WHETHER ANY OTHER "08 CIVIC FROM HONDA OF BOWIE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. IF NOT, I AM REPORTING THE FIRST. *TR

SMALL PEBBLE HIT CONDENSER ON MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC WHILE DRIVING UNBEKNOWNST TO ME. THE DEALER SAYS IT HAS CAUSED A SMALL HOLE IN CONDENSER AND HAS TO BE REPLACED. ON EXAMINATION DAMAGE IS NOT READILY NOTICEABLE. THE CAR IS ONLY 3 MOS. OLD. I FEEL THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW, AND HAVE NOTED THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM, SO IT QUITE COMMON. I THINK HONDA SHOULD ADDRESS THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT, AND HAVE IT COVERED BY WARRANTY. *TR

I TOOK MY 2008 HONDA CIVIC INTO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE AIR CONDITIONING WASN'T WORKING. THEY SAID IT WASN'T WORKING BECAUSE THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE AC CONDENSER AND THAT THIS WASN'T COVERED BY WARRANTY. THEY INDICATED THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH HONDAS BUT THAT THIS DESIGN DEFECT WASN'T COVERED BY WARRANTY. THEY COULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN DUE TO THE DEFECT BUT THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS WOULD SEEM TO ME TO BE A GOOD REASON FOR A RECALL TO FIX THE DESIGN PROBLEM IF THE AC UNIT IS SO VULNERABLE TO PUNCTURE GIVEN ITS LOCATION AND LACK OF PROTECTION FROM ROAD DEBRIS. *TR
