FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2023 Honda Accord, Civic Coupe, Civic Sedan, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R, CR-V, HR-V, Ridgeline, Odyssey, Acura ILX, MDX, MDX Hybrid, RDX, RLX, TLX, 2019-2022 Honda Insight, Passport, 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid, 2018-2019 Honda Clarity PHEV, Fit, and 2015-2020 Honda Accord Hybrid, Pilot, Acura NSX vehicles. The fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.
Fix: Dealers will replace the fuel pump module, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed September 6, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are KGC and KGD. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recall numbers 21V-215 and 20V-314.

A dealer diagnosed the problem as a defective fuel pump and found a related NHTSA recall (Campaign 23V858000), but the manufacturer said your specific vehicle wasn't included in the recall and offered no assistance. While driving 50 mph on the interstate and pressing the accelerator, your car suddenly slowed to 20 mph and wouldn't go faster. After pulling over, turning off the engine, and restarting it, the check engine light came on. A mechanic diagnosed that your high-pressure fuel pump needs to be replaced. This sudden loss of power while accelerating is a serious drivability issue that requires replacing the fuel pump.

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle was sputtering and jerking. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had progressively worsened. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled and was towed several times. The contact stated that the starter was replaced several times. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving at an undisclosed speed, and the contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The contact restarted the vehicle and continued driving; however, the failure recurred while driving 30 MPH on the highway, and the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. The vehicle failed to restart as intended. The contact was able to push the vehicle to side of the road with the State I-pass assistance. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact stated that the failure increased as the weather temperature was increasing because the fuel pump was evaporating. The contact stated that an independent mechanic had previously diagnosed the vehicle with fuel pump failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 138,000.
The vehicle associated with the subject VIN is a 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid. The high voltage battery has deteriorated substantially from the time the car was purchased by us as a new car. Specifically, (i) the high voltage battery no longer is capable of taking a full charge; and (ii) the high voltage battery does not hold a charge. Judging from (i) the car's dashboard gauge indicating level of charge; (ii) the dashboard gauge indicating miles of EV driving available; and (iii) actual miles that the car will drive in EV mode it is clear that the high voltage battery is more likely than not deteriorated to less than 50% compared to when it was new. Because the Plug-in Accord relies on the high voltage battery and can not function without the high voltage battery this level of deterioration presents a safety risk. Honda has issued a technical bulletin regarding the unexpected deterioration of these high voltage batteries. However, given the critical role these high voltage batteries play a recall seems in order.
All the lights came on Red about 2months then went off came back on Friday and went back off they’re saying Fuel pump but most mechanic are saying car is to new for it to out just wondering and I have a lot of problems with the battery going down have purchased about 4 since I owned this car wondering about this happen to 2009 Honda my is 2014 Honda Accord
DRIVER ENTERED CAR AFTER GROCERY SHOPPING. CAR WAS PUT INTO DRIVE AND LIGHT ACCELERATOR PRESSURE WAS APPLIED APPROPRIATE FOR MOVING OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE. CAR PROCEEDED TO ADVANCE SLOWLY AT FIRST BUT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE AMOUNT OF RAPID AND SUDDEN ACCELERATION WAS INCONSISTENT AND DISPROPORTIONATE WITH THE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE AND EFFORT THAT WAS APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR WHEN ADVANCING FROM THE PARKING SPACE. THREE (3) PEDESTRIANS WERE EITHER HIT DIRECTLY BY THE CAR OR THE RESULTANT DEBRIS FROM THE ACCIDENT. TWO (2) REQUIRED MEDICAL CARE/HOSPITALIZATION. ADDITIONALLY THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT PROPERTY DAMAGE TO THE GROCERY STORE AND VEHICLE. THE COST TO REPAIR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN APPRAISED AT ABOUT $9,500. THE EXTENT AND NATURE OF INJURIES TO PEDESTRIANS AND DAMAGE TO BUILDING HAS NOT YET BEEN DETERMINED. THE 2014 HONDA ACCORD ACCORDING TO PUBLIC NHTSA DATABASE REPORTING HAS EXPERIENCED AT LEAST 17 SUDDEN ACCELERATION EVENTS (SAE) ATTRIBUTED TO FAILED VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL WITH STRIKINGLY SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES. ACCORDING TO NHTSA PUBLIC REPORTINGS HONDA HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF SOME OF THESE 17 SAES. THE SAES ARE NOT LIMITED TO JUST 2014 HONDA ACCORDS. IT HAS BEEN REPORTED IN OTHER MODEL YEARS IN 9TH GENERATION ACCORDS. THE 2014 HONDA ACCORDS ARE PART OF THE 9TH GENERATION HONDA ACCORDS FROM (2013 TO 2017) IN NORTH AMERICA. REQUEST NHTSA INVESTIGATE SUDDEN ACCELERATION EVENTS IN 9TH GENERATION HONDA ACCORDS (2013 TO 2017) IN NORTH AMERICA. THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF INSTANCES OF SAE TO OBSERVE A CLEAR AND PRESENT PATTERN TO WARRANT AN IN-DEPT INVESTIGATION. THERE HAVE BEEN PRIOR INSTANCES OF HONDA RECALLING VEHICLES DUE TO SAE.
THE HONDA ACCORD 2014 IS CONSUMING TONS OF ENGINE OIL. HAVING ISSUES WITH "ENGINE OIL BURNING" WHERE EVIDENCE OF EVAPORATED ENGINE OIL IS ON THE ENGINE AND IS GETTING CONSUMED RAPIDLY. I HAVE TO REFILL A QUART FOR EVERY 1500 MILES. THIS MEANS 3 QUARTS ADDED BEFORE THE NEXT OIL CHANGE. THIS WAS DISCOVERED AROUND NOV 2017 WHEN THE OIL INDICATOR LIGHT WENT OFF (~44,000 MILES). AFTER GASKET REPLACEMENTS AND TWO OIL CHANGES, I AM STILL HAVING ISSUES AND AM AT 50,400 MILES. MY MAINTENANCE HAS ALWAYS BEEN ON TIME WITH REGULAR OIL CHANGES AT AROUND 4500-5000 MILES.
ONE MORNING WHILE DRIVING MY DAUGHTER TO DAYCARE I NOTICED THE SMELL OF GASOLINE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE MECHANIC AND HE DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS A FAULTY HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINE (THE LINE FROM THE GAS TANK TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR). UPON RECEIVING THE REPLACEMENT PART THE MECHANIC NOTED THAT THE NEW FUEL LINE HAS AN ADDITIONAL INSULATOR THAT PREVENTS THIS EXACT ISSUE. I'VE SEEN THIS REPORTED ELSEWHERE AS "POSSIBLE RODENT DAMAGE" BUT THIS IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE HONDA IS AWARE OF BUT NOT ADDRESSING VIA A RECALL.
LOW MILES 2 YEAR OLD HONDA ACCORD RANDOMLY WENT UP IN FLAMES AFTER BEING PARKED FOR 30MINS AT THE DOCTORS OFFICE. LOOKS TO BE A HP FUEL PUMP DESIGN PROBLEM. THIS PUMP WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER UNDER WARRANTY. THANKFULLY IT WASN'T PARKED IN MY GARAGE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SHUDDER AND LOSE POWER. IN ADDITION, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS BEGAN TO FLASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200. WE SMELLED FUEL WHEN DRIVING TO CHURCH ON A SUNDAY. THINKING IT WAS SOME LEFTOVER FUEL SPLASHED, WE CONTINUED BUT THEN THE SMELL BECAME REALLY INTENSE. SO WE TURNED AROUND AND RETURNED TOWARD HOME. UPON ENTERING OUR STREET, SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE STALLED TOTALLY OUT AND CAME TO A STOP IN MIDDLE OF THE ROAD! WE ROLLED IT OVER TO THE SIDE, IT IS A NEIGHBORHOOD STREET; THEN STARTED CAR AGAIN AND WENT SLOWLY DOWNHILL TO THE HOUSE; CAR STALLED AGAIN JUST OUTSIDE OUR HOUSE, WE COULD NOT GET IT INTO DRIVEWAY, VERY STRONG FUEL SMELL; WE PUSHED IT TO GET IT PARKED ON THE STREET. TRIED AGAIN LATER THAT DAY TO START THE CAR BUT IT WOULDN'T START, VERY STRONG FUEL SMELL AND GASOLINE LEAKING ONTO THE STREET. CAR TOWED TO HONDA DEALER NEXT DAY; AFTER TECHNICIANS EXAMINED THE CAR THEY CONCLUDED "RODENT DAMAGE" TO THE FUEL LINE LEADING TO THE FUEL TANK. THEY WOULD NOT COVER ANY OF THE DAMAGE AS IT "WASN'T MANUFACTURER DEFECT." ALSO CALLED NATIONAL HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND OPENED A CASE; BUT THEY WOULD NOT AGREE EITHER TO COVER ANYTHING. WE WERE VERY LUCKY WE WEREN'T ON A HIGHWAY OR INTERSTATE WHEN THIS SUDDENLY STALLED OUT, WE COULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED AS THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED WITH NO WARNING! THE FUEL LINE LAST PORTION LEADING INTO THE TANK IS MADE OF RUBBER, IT IS NOT METAL OR HARD PLASTIC LIKE THE REST OF THE LINE AND THEREFORE SUBJECT TO SOMETHING SHARP PUNCTURING IT--WHICH IS A DEFECTIVE DESIGN IN OUR VIEW. THE NEW PART THEY PUT ON IS SAME AS THE OLD, THE SAME THING COULD HAPPEN AGAIN. THERE IS NO SHIELD UNDER THE FUEL TANK AREA TO KEEP THINGS FROM UNDERNEATH GETTING UP IN THERE. HONDA SHOULD AT LEAST COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR (WE PAID $684.09), CAR IS ALMOST BRAND NEW. AND WE BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, CAR CAN SHUT OFF WITH NO WARNING. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. *TR
MY 2014 HONDA ACCORD SPORT WITH ONLY 5687 MILES ON IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AS I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH. I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID DRIVING OVER THE CONCRETE BARRIER. I HAVE RECENTLY NOTICED A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, WHICH DISSIPATES AFTER A FEW MINUTES. RODENT DAMAGE TO GAS LINE, EMISSION SYSTEM, GAS TANK, AND NUMEROUS OTHER PARTS IN AN ACTIVELY DRIVEN CAR (NOT STORED). LEADING TO MAJOR GAS LEAK (HALF A TANK OF GAS IN A DURATION OF A STANDSTILL AT RED LIGHT) THAT PLACED DRIVERS, PASSENGERS, PEDESTRIANS, AND BYSTANDERS' LIFE AT RISK. WOULD'VE LEAD TO CATASTROPHIC ENDING IF EXHAUST WAS HOT. GAS SPILLED OVER STRETCH OF 2 BLOCKS, MAJORITY CONCENTRATING AT INTERSECTION BETWEEN HEATH AND MAIN ST. BUFFALO NY, WHICH REQUIRED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO CLEAN UP. 911 WAS CONTACTED FOR PATCHES OF FLAMMABLE GASOLINE, WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN IGNITED FOR NUMEROUS REASONS LEADING TO FATALITY. REASON FOR FILING COMPLIANT. VEHICLE WHICH THIS HAPPENED TO WAS A BRAND NEW 2014 HONDA ACCORD PURCHASED IN JUNE 2014. REPAIRS DENIED TO BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BY HONDA DEALERSHIP AND AMERICA HONDA. STATING ACCIDENT EVENTS LIKE THIS IS NOT COVERED, AND IS NOT A MECHANICAL DEFECT. TWO CONSERVATIVE REPAIR REQUIRED, STILL NOT FIXED. DYSFUNCTIONAL CAR FOR A PERIOD OF 6 DAYS AND COUNTING. FOR RODENT DAMAGE TO OCCUR IN A BRAND NEW, ACTIVELY DRIVEN CAR IS INDICATIVE OF OBVIOUS FLAWS IN THE DESIGN ITSELF. 1. THE MACHINERY WAS EXPOSED AND UNPROTECTED. 2. THE QUALITY OF BUILT MATERIAL WAS SUBSTANDARD FOR IT TO BE DAMAGED IN A OVERNIGHT SITUATION BY SOME "RODENT" NO LARGER THAN THOSE THAT CAN FIT IN, AND MANEUVER, WITHIN A CONFINED SPACE (SERIOUSLY, I DO NOT BELIEVE A RODENT WOULD RANDOMLY CHOOSE MY CAR ON THE STREET TO SQUEEZE INTO AND JUST BIT A WIRE (NUMEROUS WIRES) WITHOUT PURPOSES OF BUILDING A NEWS OR FOR FOOD). 3. DISPROPORTION BETWEEN THE PRICE PAID FOR THE CAR AND THE QUALITY OF SERVICE WHICH FOLLOWED IT. *TR
I HAVE A BRAND NEW 2014 HONDA ACCORD SPORT. IT HESITATES WHEN I ACCELERATE FROM ALMOST ANY SPEED. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS I AM NERVOUS IF I HAVE TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY FOR ANY REASON, AND GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY CAN BE TOUGH TOO. THE CAR IS EXPERIENCING A VERY HESITANT ACCELERATION UPON INITIAL ACCELERATION TO THE POINT OF ALMOST STOPPING. THIS HAS CONTINUED NOW WITH JUST OVER 1,000 MILES. CALLED THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER AND WAS TOLD BY A MAINTENANCE REPRESENTATIVE THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THEM, BUT THERE IS NO FIX KNOWN. THE PROBLEM IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD AS YOU CAN NOT DEPEND ON THE CAR ACCELERATING WHEN NEEDED. IT DOES NOT HAVE RELIABLE ACCELERATION FROM A STOP. I WAS TOLD BY THE MAINTENANCE REPRESENTATIVE THAT THE CAR IS A FLY-BY- WIRE AND HAS NO THROTTLE CABLE ANY LONGER, BUT IS CONTROLLED BY THE COMPUTER. HE ASSURED ME THERE WAS NO FIX KNOWN NOR DID HONDA CORP INFORM THEM OF A PROBLEM OR A FIX. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE WITH THIS CONDITION AND HAVE NO FEELING OF RELIABILITY WITH THE CAR'S ACCELERATION. *TR
HESITATION (UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION) OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY AT LOW SPEED. WHEN THE CAR IS AT A LOW SPEED AND MORE POWER IS NEEDED AND THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED THERE IS NO RESPONSE INITIALLY; ACCELERATOR IS THEN PRESSED MORE AND THE CAR THEN ACCELERATES MUCH MORE THAN WAS EXPECTED, RESULTING IN A JERKY, ON/OFF TYPE ACTION. I BELIEVE THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT EITHER WHEN TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC OR WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE GENTLY AND HAVING THE CAR ACCELERATE MORE THAN EXPECTED (IN A PARKING LOT OR HEAVY SLOW TRAFFIC ETC). *TR
