The contact stated that after researching the failure, he became aware that similar vehicles were experiencing the same failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer had been contacted or notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
The engine rattles loudly for about 3 seconds on could start-up. The componet that is failing is the VTC ACTUATOR. This problem is casuing the engine light to go on. Also, I found out that the VTC Actuator on honda accord is a common failure. This is not a coincidence, it is a manufacture defect. In addition, it is putting my life in danger while it may cause engine failure. The VTC actuator rattles have been confirmed by independent mechanic.

WHEN STARTING UP MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD, I EXPERIENCE A VERY LOUD RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE VTC ACTUATOR. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AMONG HONDA ENGINES. HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. HONDA NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THE FACT THAT THE ACTUATOR THEY PUT IN MY CAR IS FAULTY AND CAN LEAD TO MANY MORE PROBLEMS.
2008 ACCORD 4 CYLINDER HAS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION BECAUSE OF FACTORY DEFECT PISTON RING.
I OWN A 2008 HONDA ACCORD WHICH I PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN 2008. AFTER I REACHED ABOUT 75,000 MILES I STARTED HAVING EXTREME OIL CONSUMPTION WHICH THEN LEAD TO ME HAVING TO REPLACE VTC ACTUATOR AND PISTON RINGS COSTING ME ALMOST $2,000. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY TELL ME THERE IS NO ISSUES AND HONDA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING. I NOW CAN ONLY GO ABOUT 1,000 MILES WITHOUT HAVING TO REPLENISH THE OIL. AS MANY REPORTS AS THERE ARE OF THIS KNOWN ISSUE AND HONDA REFUSES TO SUPPORT THEIR CUSTOMERS, SPEAKS LOUDLY.
I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE ONE YEAR AGO (DECEMBER 2018) AND HAVE HAD A GRINDING NOISE UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE. THIS GRINDING NOISE OCCURS DURING OR WEATHER AND COLD WEATHER. I WENT TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY RAN AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE VTC ACTUATOR WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY AND THERE WAS A HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION. HONDA IS SAYING THERE WAS NEVER A RECALL BUT THIS IS AND HAS BEEN A WELL KNOWN OCCURRING ISSUE WITH HONDA'S FROM YEARS 2008-2012) AND I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX AS THE PRICE TO FIX THE VEHICLE WOULD COST JUST AS MUCH AS THE PRICE I PURCHASED IT FOR. I'M HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED WITH A HONDA AS I'VE HEARD EXCELLENT THINGS ABOUT HONDA CARS WHICH IS WHY I PURCHASED MY ACCORD. IF I HAD KNOWN OF THE ISSUE I WOULDN'T HAVE PURCHASED IT AND I'D RATHER PURCHASE A DIFFERENT CAR THAN TO HAVE TO COME OUT OF POCKET. ALSO MY DAD WAS CONSIDERING PURCHASING A BRAND NEW 2021 HONDA CIVIC BUT NOW I WILL LEAD HIM TO A DIFFERENT BRAND VEHICLE AS HONDA HAS NOT LIVED UP TO ITS NAME. AND NOW TO TOP EVERYTHING OFF, MY MOTOR IS GOING ALL DUE TO THE NEGLIGENCE OF THE HONDA DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS LISTED AT 184,000 MILES AND, AFTER 1,000 MILES, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HE USED A QUART AND A HALF OF OIL DURING THE TEST. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY DUE TO ITS MILEAGE. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SAME DEALER FOR ANOTHER OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THE CONTACT REFUSED TO HAVE ANOTHER TEST PERFORMED AND INFORMED THE REPRESENTATIVE THAT HE HAD PICTURES AND DOCUMENTS REGARDING THE ORIGINAL TEST THAT WAS PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 177,000.
WHILE DRIVING TENSIONER BOLT BROKE LEAVE VEHICLE WITHOUT POWER STEERING OR ANY POWER EXCEPT FOR THE BATTERY UNTIL THAT DIED.IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN TWO YEARS AND I DON'T SEE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE.

HAVE TO TOP OFF ENGINE OIL EVERY WEEK. DISCOVERED PROBLEM LAST YEAR WHEN OIL WAS ALMOST DRAINED OUT AND FEAR IT WILL DESTROY THE ENGINE IF NOT ADDRESSED.
EVERY TIME ARE START MY VEHICLE IT MAKES A GRINDING RATTLING NOISE, THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SOME TIME NOW AND THE NOISE IT MAKES SEEMS TO BE LASTING LONGER EVERY TIME WE START IT. THE VEHICLE IS NOT MOVING, IT IS IN PARK, IT ONLY OCCURS WHEN I START IT UP.
MY VEHICLE'S PISTON RINGS ARE DAMAGED AND MY VEHICLE IS BURNING OIL. I NOTICED THAT AFTER CHECKING MY OIL ONE DAY THAT THERE WAS NO OIL ON MY DIP STICK. I HAD JUST RECENTLY GOTTEN AN OIL CHANGE LESS THAN 2 WEEKS AGO. I CHECK MY FLUID LEVELS FREQUENTLY DUE TO I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO. I TOOK IT BACK TO WALMART WHERE I HAD THE OIL CHANGE DONE AT AND THEY PERFORMED ANOTHER OIL CHANGE AND REPLACED THE OIL FILTER, WHERE I WAS ABLE TO WATCH THEM DO THE ENTIRE PROCESS. ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF GOES BY AND I WENT TO CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL AND AGAIN THE DIP STICK WAS BARE. THERE IS NO INDICATION OF ANY OIL LEAKING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, NOR IS THERE ANY OIL PRESENT ON THE GROUND UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AFTER SITTING OVERNIGHT. THERE IS NO WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF ANYWHERE, NO OIL BURNING SMELL, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING VISIBLE TO SEE WHAT MIGHT BE GOING ON WITH THE VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC THAT IS IN TOWN WHERE THEY DID A THOROUGH EXAMINATION OF THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE OIL BURNING IS BEING CAUSED BY THE PISTON RINGS. THEY ARE IN THEIR OPINION FAULTY PISTON RINGS THAT HAVE DEVELOPED AN ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF DEB-RE ON THEM AND THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED. I FEEL THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE IN THE RECALL LIST DUE TO THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 104,123 MILES ON IT AND THE PISTONS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED.

VTC (VARIABLE TIMING CONTROL) ACTUATOR, HORRIBLE GRINDING NOISE AT START UP AND I DO KNOW THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF THIS AND HAS HAD MANY MANY COMPLAINTS. THAT HAS GOT TO BE A 'LEMON LAW' ISSUE AND I BELIEVE IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED PROMPTLY. ON A COLD START, IS WHEN IT MAKES THE TERRIBLE NOISE. IF IT'S DRIVEN FOR A WHILE AND THEN STARTED UP AGAIN, IT IS A 50/50 CHANCE THAT IT WILL MAKE THE NOISE AGAIN.

2008 HONDA ACCORD EX-L AT COLD START-UP, ENGINE RATTLES LOUDLY FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 SECONDS. AFTER INVESTIGATION AND CONSULTATION WITH HONDA REPAIR TECHNICIANS, IT APPEARS THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE VTC ACTUATOR AND HONDA HAS ISSUED A TSB 090-010 TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM.
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING UP WITH THE MAINTENANCE LIGHT AND THE OIL LEVEL KEPT DROPPING.I TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE AND I GOT THESE CODED P3497 AND P3400. I DID A RESEARCH MYSELF AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE AS STATED IN HONDA'S BULLETIN 11-033.THE RECALL COVERS ALL ACCORD FROM 2008-2010 WHICH MINE IS INCLUDED. I CALLED ACCORD TO NOTIFY THEM ABOUT THESE BUT AFTER THEY LOOKED UP THE VIN,I WAS TOLD MY CAR WASN'T INCLUDED. HONDA'S BULLETIN SAYS ALL 2008-2010 V6 ACCORD SO WHY IS MY CAR EXEMPTED? PLEASE KINDLY LOOK INTO THESE ISSUE. THANK YOU.

2008 HONDA ACCORD EX-L V6. ENGINE FAILURE. HEADING HOME AND CAR CUT OFF. PULLED OVER AND CALLED MY MECHANIC FOR A TOW TO HIS SHOP. HIS DIAGNOSIS WAS ENGINE FAILURE AND HE STATED A NEW ENGINE IS THE ONLY FIX. MY MECHANIC RUNS A SMALL SHOP IN A SMALL TOWN AND HE TELLS IT LIKE IT IS. HE RECOMMENDED SELLING THE CAR FOR SCRAP RATHER THAN INVESTING IN THE NEW ENGINE. I WAS UPSET. THIS IS A NICE CAR AND IS QUITE CLEAN. BUT DURING MY FIVE YEARS OF OWNERSHIP I HAVE ADDED OIL EVERY WEEK TO KEEP IT TOPPED OFF. SPARK PLUGS FOULED OFTEN ENOUGH TO CARRY EXTRAS IN THE TRUNK ALONG WITH A RATCHET AND SOCKET. WHEN THEY FOULED I WOULD PULL OVER, CHANGE THEM AND GO ON MY WAY. I STILL OWN THE CAR. BUT IT IS HAS TOO MANY MILES AND IS TOO OLD FOR INCLUSION INTO THE CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT. THIS ISN'T RIGHT AND IT'S THE FIRST AND LAST HONDA I WILL EVER OWN.

I ALSO HAD OIL CONSUMPTION MONITORING DONE AND WAS TOLD MY CAR DOESN'T BURN ENOUGH OIL. IT WAS MONITORED TO BURN 9/10THS A QUART FOR EVERY 1000 MILES AND WAS TOLD IT NEEDED TO BURN AT LEAST A FULL QUART FOR EVERY 1000 MILES FOR HONDA TO OFFER AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT. FOR THE LAST 2 TO 3 YEARS I HAVE BEEN ADDING 2-3 QUARTS EVERY OIL CHANGE AND I USED TO GET 4000-6000 MILES PER OIL CHANGE WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED (CPO). WHILE UNDER WARRANTY I MADE CLAIMS TO HONDA AND THEY WOULD TELL ME I AM USING THE WRONG OIL. THE DEALER VALLEY HONDA WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR SPECIFICALLY TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO PUT THE SAME QUALITY OIL INTO THE CAR AS THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND ACCORDING TO THEIR RECORDS THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY SERVICED BY THEM AND THE ONLY OIL TO PUT IN THE CAR WAS FULL SYNTHETIC 0W20 AND THAT IS ALL IT HAS EVER HAD. PLEASE NOTE OIL CHANGES EVERY 4K TO 6K MILES AT 80 DOLLARS EACH SEEMED GOOD, BUT NOW IT'S EVERY 2K TO 3K MILES AT THE SAME PRICE NOT TO INCLUDE THE ADDITIONAL QUARTS AT 10 DOLLARS EACH COSTING ME AN ADDITIONAL 20 TO 30 DOLLARS EACH OIL CHANGE AND I AM AVERAGING 13 TO 17 MILES PER GALLON CITY/HIGHWAY COMBINED A FAR CRY FROM THE ORIGINAL 19 TO 29 MILES PER GALLON PREVIOUSLY ACHIEVED AS PROMISED. ALL SERVICES DONE TO THE VEHICLE INCLUDE: TIMING BELT REPLACED, OIL PRESSURE SWITCHES REPLACED, FLUID SERVICED AND FLUSHED; BRAKES, TRANSMISSION, POWER STEERING, COOLANT SYSTEM ALL OF THESE WERE DONE ON THE SAME DAY, WITH A HEAVY BILL OF 1300 DOLLARS. TIMING WAS DONE BECAUSE THE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE AND BECAUSE I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE HAD OVER 100K MILES AND IT WAS REQUIRED. CURRENTLY I HAVE 133K MILES MY 2008 ACCORD EX-L V6 NAVI.

CAR STALLED A NUMBER OF TIMES WHEN RUNNING STATIONARY AND IN MOTION IN AUGUST 2016. HONDA DEALER ON AUGUST 9 FOUND CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN STRETCHED AND IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. CAR HAD 41,059 MILES ON ODOMETER AND POWER TRAIN WARRANTY OF 60,000 MILES OR 5 YEARS. REPAIR COST $1,562.90. HONDA REFUSED ANY COMPENSATION EVEN THOUGH MILEAGE WELL UNDER 60,000 MILES AND THE VEHICLE WAS IN EXCELLENT WORKING ORDER INCLUDING ENGINE OIL LEVEL. REPAIR SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED AS AN EXCEPTION UNDER WARRANTY. I AM 1000 MILES AWAY FROM HAVING MY NEXT OIL CHANGE AND THE "GRINDING" NOISE HIT MY CAR AGAIN. MY OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I CHECKED AND WAS DOWN TO 2QUARTS OF OIL. I HAD TO ADD TWO QUARTS. BRINGING CAR IN TODAY 9/7/2016 TO START YET ANOTHER OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. HONDA KNOWS THIS IS AN ISSUE, YET WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANRTY!!!!! HONDA TECH CONFIRMED THEY HAVE HAD MAY PROBLEMS AND EVEN HAD TO GET A REPLACEMENT PART FOR THEIR REPLACEMENT PART. THIS NEEDS TO BE DEALT WITH BY HONDA, BUT THEY ARE NOT TAKING ANY RESPONSIBILITY.

THE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING SMOOTHLY ON THE FREEWAY, BEING DRIVEN AT APPROXIMATELY 64 MPH - THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ON (CHECK ENGINE, LOW OIL, TEMPERATURE..) - SUDDENLY THERE WAS A METAL CLANK FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY A PLUME OF THICK CLEAR SMOKE THAT COMPLETELY ENGULFED THE CAR AS THE ENGINE STALLED AND DIED - WITHIN A MATTER OF SECONDS. THE SMOKE CLEARED RAPIDLY, AND LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD, NOTHING SEEMED TO BE AMISS. NO FIRE, NO MORE SMOKE, NO LEAKING FLUIDS, BUT THE ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY DEAD. SUBSEQUENT ATTEMPTS TO RE-START IT PRODUCED ONLY THE CLICK OF THE STARTER - THE ENGINE REFUSED TO TURN OVER. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO OIL IN THE ENGINE WHICH HAD CAUSED IT TO SEIZE. FOR THE PAST 18 MONTHS THE CAR HAS BEEN BURNING QUITE A SIGNIFICANT BIT OF OIL. DURING THAT PERIOD, IT NEEDED AT LEAST TWO TWO QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES - THERE NEVER WAS ANY OIL LEAK. TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT, IT WAS TOPPED OFF WITH TWO QUARTS OF OIL WHEN THE LOW OIL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. WHEN THE ENGINE WAS FINALLY OPENED, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE PISTON ROD HAD SNAPPED OFF WHEN THE ENGINE RAN DRY OF OIL (SEE ATTACHED PICTURES). SUBSEQUENT RESEARCH HAS REVEALED THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF SEVERAL PROBLEMS INVOLVING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION FOR THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE CONFIGURATION AND MODEL YEAR (2008 3.5L V6 PZEV). I HAVE ALSO DISCOVERED OFFICIAL SEVERAL HONDA SERVICE BULLETINS THAT ARE RELEVANT AND PERTINENT TO THIS ISSUE. SO FAR, MY BEST ATTEMPTS TO GET A RESOLUTION FROM AMERICAN HONDA HAS PRODUCED NO RESULT EVEN THOUGH I SUBMITTED DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE THAT THE CAR WAS SERVICED REGULARLY AS PER HONDA'S RECOMMENDATIONS AND ITS LONG HISTORY OF PROBLEMS AND REPAIRS RELATING TO EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION.
I RECEIVED A LETTER REGARDING A WARRANTY EXTENSION: STICKING PISTON RINGS RESULTING IN HIGH ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR TO THE MISSION HILLS, CA HONDA DEALER FOR REPAIR, I WAS TOLD THAT MY ENGINE LIGHT FIRST HAD TO BE ILLUMINATED AND THEN I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE 3 CONSECUTIVE OIL CHANGES FROM THIS DEALERSHIP BEFORE THEY WOULD REPAIR THE PROBLEM.
MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD HAS BEEN USING OIL WAY BEFORE THE NEXT OIL CHANGE. THIS HAS ONLY OCCURRED THE LAST TWO CHANGES. THE CAR DOES NOT LEAK OR SMOKE. THERE HAS BEEN A CLASS ACTION SUIT REGARDING SPARK PLUG FOULING INDICATING UNUSUAL OIL CONSUMPTION. MY CAR HAS ONLY 59500 MILES AND I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM MAY BE STARTING NOW. HONDA EXTENDED A RECALL UNTIL NOV. 2015, 8 YEARS PAST THE PURCHASE DATE. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT THIS AND BECAUSE THE PROBLEM HADN'T BEGUN UNTIL NOW, IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME THAT MY PLUGS WILL FOUL. OTHER 2008 HONDA OWNERS HAD RINGS REPLACED AND OTHER ENGINE REMEDIES TO CORRECT THE PREMATURE OIL CONSUMPTION. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEW HONDAS, AND NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS KIND OF PROBLEM. I FIRST SAW ABOUT THE CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT, ABOUT A MONTH AGO, AND SEVERAL PEOPLE HAD THIS PROBLEM. BECAUSE OF THE LOW MILEAGE I WAS NOT AFFECTED, UNTIL MY RECENT OIL CHANGE. I CERTAINLY DON'T BELIEVE THE CAR SHOULD BE USING 2 OR MORE QUARTS IN LESS THAN 1000 MILES. THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY WOULD HAVE TO DO AN OIL CHANGE AND MONITOR THE CONSUMPTION AND THEN HE SAID ONLY ABOUT 2 OUT A 100 HAVE BEEN WARRANTED. I HAVE TAKEN GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLES AND CHANGED THE OIL REGULARLY AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS. HAD I HAD THIS PROBLEM ARISE A FEW MONTHS BACK, I MAY HAVE GOTTEN THIS TAKEN CARE OF. PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2012, WITHIN 60 DAYS OF PURCHASE I REPORTED ISSUES WITH OIL CONSUMPTION TO HONDA AND ALSO TO THE DEALERSHIP IN WHICH THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. HONDA GAVE ME A RENTAL FOR TWO DAYS WHILE THEY REVIEWED THE PROBLEM. WE WERE THEN ASKED TO BRING OUR VEHICLE BACK FOR A TOTAL OF 3 TESTS ONCE EVERY 30 DAYS TO HAVE THEM MEASURE THE OIL. IN THE MEANTIME WE KEPT PUTTING OIL IN THE VEHICLE IN A MORE THAN NORMALLY EXPECTED RATE. EVEN THOUGH THEY NOTICED IT AS A PROBLEM, THE BEST THEY OFFERED TO DO WAS FIX IT FOR $1500, HOWEVER WE NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM. IN 2016 HONDA REPORTED A OIL CONSUMPTION RECALL FOR VEHICLES OF WHICH MINE FIT THE ORGINAL CRITERIA. FOUR YEARS LATTER HONDA IS STILL TELLING US THAT THEY WILL FIX IT FOR $1500. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE FIXED WITHOUT US HAVING TO PAY FOR IT CONSIDERING THIS WAS A LATE IDENTIFIED PROBLEM OF WHICH WE HAVE HAD TO FOOT THE COST FOR EVEN WHILE HAVING A CAR NOTE. HONDA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING THE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEMS ON THE VEHICLES RECALLED.
AUG 2015 HEARD A RATTLING NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. CHECKED THE DIPSTICK AND THE ENGINE WAS ALMOST OUT OF OIL. THIS WAS IN BETWEEN OIL CHANGES AT 3700 MILES. I TOOK THE CAR IN AND HAD AN OIL CHANGE. I RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM HONDA ABOUT OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES. I BEGAN THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST WITH THE DEALER. SO FAR, TWICE IT HAS BEEN DOWN .75 QTS. OVER 5K MILES THAT WOULD PLACE THE ENGINE DOWN 3.75 QTS OR ALMOST DRY, BUT HONDA SAYS THAT'S NORMAL AND I SHOULD BE ADDING OIL MYSELF. THAT IS RIDICULOUS!!! WHY SEND OUT THE NOTICE AND EXTEND THE WARRANTY THEN. HONDA KNOWS THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE, BUT DOES NOTHING TO FIX THE ISSUE. I'VE READ THAT IT IS WORN PISTON RINGS DO TO A VCM TIMING ISSUE. IN SEPT 2015 I RCVD A WARRANTY EXT FROM AMERICAN HONDA FOR STICKING PISTONSRINGS RESULTING IN HIGH ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL HONDA DELAERSHIP AND WAS TOLD 3 FAILED ATTEMPTS FOR A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST HAD TO BE DONE FIRST BEFORE HONDA WOULD FIX RINGS PROBLEM. TOOK THE CAR TO HONDA IN OCT 2015 TO START TEST 1. AFTER THAT THE CAR STARTED ACTING FUNNY. I WOULD JERK ALOT, ENGINE LIGHT WOULD START FLASHING, IT WOULDNT ACCELERATE PROPERLY. IN FEB 2016 IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND I GOT STRANDED BECAUSE THE CAR WOULDNT ACCELERATE. AMERICAN HONDA WOULDNT HONOR THE WARRANTY EXT BECAUSE I WAS OVER THE ALLOWED MILES. THEY KNOW THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THESE MODEL CARS AND HAD ONLY RECENTLY SENT ME A LETTER REGARDING IT. I FOUND OUT THAT A FEW OF THE CYLINDERS WERE MISFIRING AND AFTER RESERACH FOUND OUT IT WAS DUE TO THE RINGS. THEY PROVIDED TERRIBEL CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY PUT A CRAPPY ON THE STREET AND DID EVERYTHING TO AVIOID FIXING IT. AND THEN INFORMED CUSTOMERS SO LATE AFTER THE CASE WAS SETTLED.
THE ENGINE RATTLES AT COLD START-UP. SINCE APPROXIMATELY SEPTEMBER 1, 2015, THE ENGINE ON MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD EX-L (4 CYLINDER) HAS CREATED A LOUD RATTLE EVERY TIME UNDER COLD START-UP CONDITIONS. THE NOISE GOES AWAY AFTER APPROXIMATELY 2 SECONDS AND THE ENGINE SMOOTHS OUT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A HONDA DEALER FOR ANOTHER ISSUE IN JANUARY 2016 AND ASKED THEM TO INVESTIGATE THE COLD START-UP NOISE, BUT THEY CLAIMED THAT THE NOISE DID NOT OCCUR WHEN THEY STARTED THE VEHICLE. I QUESTIONED WHETHER THEY TRIED TO START IT UNDER COLD ENGINE CONDITIONS AND THEY SAID THEY HAD. I RECENTLY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT SERVICE CENTER AND THEY WERE ABLE TO HEAR THE RATTLE AT COLD START-UP AND SUGGESTED THAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE VARIABLE VALVE TIMING CONTROL (VTC) ACTUATOR. HONDA ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (09-010) BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET A HONDA DEALER TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE.

FROM MY RESEARCH ON HONDA OWNERS FORUMS, THIS AFFECTS A LARGE NUMBER OF MODELS FROM 2008 ON, AND HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW. I WAS TOLD THIS ISSUE DOES NOT AFFECT ENGINE PERFORMANCE OR LONGEVITY, BUT IT IS DISCONCERTING TO HAVE SOUNDS LIKE THIS EMANATING FROM MY ENGINE EVERY DAY (IT NOW HAPPENS EVERY TIME I START THE CAR). A CALL TO HONDA CONFIRMED HONDA KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY ARE "STILL WORKING ON A SOLUTION" (I DON'T KNOW FOR HOW MANY YEARS NOW). AND NO, THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME, NO COMPENSATION OR EVEN A FIX I COULD POSSIBLY PAY FOR. I WOULD LIKE TO GET RID OF THE CAR BEFORE SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENS, BUT NO BUYER WILL PAY MARKET VALUE FOR IT WITH THIS CONDITION. ORIGINALLY THOUGHT TO BE FROM LOW OIL (SEEING HOW THIS VEHICLE BURNS OIL LIKE IT IS ITS JOB), I ALWAYS KEPT AN EXTRA QUART ON HAND. AFTER CLOSELY MONITORING THE RATTLE AND HAVING SEVERAL MECHANICS LOOK AT IT (INCLUDING HONDA), NO ONE COULD IDENTIFY IT UNTIL I HAD A MECHANIC AT WORK LOOK AT IT. I WORK FOR A FLEET LESSOR. HE IDENTIFIED IT AS THE VTC ACTUATOR. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED A BUDDY WHO IS A PARTS MANAGER FOR HONDA AND HE CONFIRMED THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE. A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH BLEW MY MIND! THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE FOR YEARS AND APPARENTLY HAS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE RESULTS ON ENGINES! MAKES ME FEEL REALLY SAFE KNOWING THAT MY ACCORD HAS SO MANY SAFETY ISSUES! PREMATURE BRAKE/ROTOR WEAR, SRS MODULE FAILURE (CONTROLS THE AIR BAG SYSTEM), HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION, INADEQUATE BATTERY CRANKING AMPS, TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE RECALLS, ETC. WHEN THIS CAR DIES, ITS GONE AND NEVER TO BE REPLACED WITH ANOTHER HONDA. HONDA REFUSED TO WARRANTY MY CAR FOR THE RECENT OIL CONSUMPTION RECALL BECAUSE I AM BEYOND THEIR 125K MILEAGE THRESHOLD EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE ME ON RECORD OF THE ISSUE GOING BACK TO 60-80K MILES! SEPTEMBER 2015, I RECEIVED WARRANTY EXTENTION NOTICE FOR HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION DUE TO A STICKING PISTON. THE CATCH IS THAT IT WAS ONLY FOR 125000 MILES WHEN I HAVE ALREADY REACHED 153000 MILES. I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD COVER MY VEHICLE BECAUSE I WAS ALREADY IN THE SYSTEM.

I DID NOT KNOW WHERE THE OIL WAS GOING, THERE WERE NO LEAKS. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING ON RECORD, AND THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO. I LEFT THE ISSUE, CHANGED MY OWN OIL, BECAUSE, L COULD NOT AFFORD TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 200 MILES. I HAD TO ADD A QUART EVERY 1000 MILES, UNTIL THE LIMIT WAS MEET TO CHANGE THE ENGINE OIL COMPLETELY. BASICALLY L LEFT THE PROBLEM ALONE. IN AUGUST 2015, L RECEIVED A LETTER FROM HONDA EXTENDING THE WARRANTY TO 125,000 MILES DUE THE AN OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM CAUSE BY BAD PISTONS. BASICALLY A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. I CONTACTED HONDA USA AND WAS TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH OUT OF WARRANTY, L SHOULD DO A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. I DID THIS. THE CAR BURNED 2.2 QUARTS IN 1975 MILES. IT WAS DETERMINED BY THE DEALER THAT THE PISTONS NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. ON 10-23-15 AT 11:47 AM, HONDA CONTACTED ME AND TOLD ME THAT SINCE MY CAR IS NOW 8000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY, THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, AND THE REPAIRS WAS ON ME TO DO AT MY EXPENSE. I FIND THIS TO BE VERY TROUBLESOME SINCE IT IS NOT AN ISSUE THAT L STARTED, BUT IT IS A PROBLEM FROM HONDA, WHEN THE CAR WAS MADE. I AM VERY UPSET OVER THIS, AND L AM CONTACTING YOU TO SEE IF L HAVE ANY GROUNDS TO FIGHT THIS MATTER. I USE MY CAR FOR WORK, AND L LOVE IN THE SOUTH, AND HAVE TO DRIVE TO WORK EVERY DAY. SO MILEAGE DOES ACCUMULATE. HOWEVER, THIS ISSUE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE HAD HONDA WOULD HAVE RECOGNIZED THIS PROBLEM EARLIER OR DONE SOMETHING BEFORE THE CARS THAT WERE PURCHASED IN 2008, COULD HAVE BEEN COVERED SINCE THE TIME GOES BACK THE FURTHEST. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD A LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD EX-L (4CYL). BESIDES BEING RECALLED FOR THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE UPDATE, PREMATURE BRAKE/ROTOR WEAR (MORE THAN I CARE TO COUNT, HONESTLY), BATTERY/ELECTRICAL ISSUES, SRS MODULE FAILURE THAT HONDA REFUSED TO FIX/ADDRESS/RECALL (I HAD TO PAY $600 OUT OF POCKET ON THAT ONE), I AM NOW BATTLING WITH HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION.... CONSISTENTLY. ALTHOUGH, THIS HAS RECENTLY BEEN VOLUNTARILY RECALLED FOR THE ISSUE, I AM OUTSIDE THE 125K MILE WARRANTY TERM. I AM CURRENTLY AT 172K MILES. I RELIGIOUSLY GET AN OIL CHANGE EVERY 3K MILES. EVERY 2K MILES I NEED TO ADD A QUART OF OIL. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE AROUND 60K MILES. HONDA AND MULTIPLE MECHANICS CONFIRMED THERE IS NO OIL LEAK AND HONDA INSISTED THE CAR IS NOT BURNING IT..... DESPITE WHAT OTHER MECHANICS HAVE TOLD ME. YET, HERE I AM "BURNING" A QUART OF OIL EVERY 2K MILES. JUST RECENTLY, AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING AND AFTER ABOUT 1500 MILES AFTER AN OIL CHANGE, MY ENGINE STARTED MAKING A "PINGING SOUND." THEN THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF TO FIND THAT THE OIL (PER THE DIPSTICK) WAS LOW AGAIN! I UNDERSTAND THE CAR IS GETTING UP THERE IN MILEAGE BUT THE THING LOOKS BRAND NEW AND I HAVE ALWAYS KEPT UP ON THE MAINTENANCE. THERE IS NO REASON IT SHOULD BE "BURNING" THE OIL AS QUICKLY AS IT IS FOR AS LONG AS IT HAS. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN HONDA NOT ADDRESSING THE ISSUE WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THEIR ATTENTION SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST. NOW THEY ISSUE A RECALL AND CUT THE MILEAGE OFF AT 125K? LIKE I SAID, LOVE/HATE. I WILL NOT BE PURCHASING ANOTHER ONE.
I PURCHASED A USED 2008 HONDA ACCORD EX-L 4 CYLINDER. UNKNOWN AT THE TIME THAT THESE SPECIFIC MODEL CARS HAVE A HISTORY OF EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. ALTHOUGH A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT COVERED THE V-6 MODELS THE 4 CYLINDER MODELS WERE NOT. AFTER PURCHASING BEFORE I EVEN PUT 2,000 MILES ON VEHICLE IT WAS ALMOST OUT OF OIL WITH NO SIGNS OF LEAKING. FINALLY TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND HAD OIL CONSUMPTION TEST DONE IN AUGUST 2015. THEY DECIDED THE PISTON RINGS WERE BAD. THEY DID GIVE ME A 10% DISCOUNT ON THE REPAIRS. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS I RECEIVED A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR 2008-2011 HONDA ACCORDS FOR 8 YEARS OF ORIGINAL PURCHASE DATE OR 125,00 MILES. WHEN PURCHASED IT HAD 135,000 AND AT TIME OF REPAIR 150,000. I TRIED CALLING DEALERSHIP TO COMPLAIN SINCE HONDA NEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM LONG BEFORE THE EXTENSION SINCE THEY ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN 12-087, 2012. THIS IS MY SECOND HONDA I HAVE OWNED AND PROBABLY WILL BE THE LAST IF THEY DO NOT COVER MY REPAIR BILL OF $1727.75. IT IS SAD THAT A CAR COMPANY THAT MAKES A FAULTY CAR TO TAKE THREE YEARS TO ISSUE A WARRANTY EXTENSION THAT PROBABLY HAS ABOUT 50% OF VEHICLES AFFECTED THAT DO NOT MEET THE MILEAGE CRITERIA. HONDA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. I AM A WORKING MAN WITH A FAMILY AND CANNOT AFFORD TO BUY A NEW CAR WITH LESS THAN A 100,00 MILES AND THEN HAVE A $1727.75 REPAIR BILL THAT I HAD TO MAX A CREDIT CARD OUT ON, NOT TO MENTION THE EXTRA MONEY SPENT ADDING OIL EVERY 1,000 MILES BEFORE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED. IF HONDA CARES ABOUT THEIR PRODUCT THEY SHOULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE NOT ISSUE AN EXTENSION AFTER MOST OF THE CARS ARE OVER THE CRITERIA FOR THE WARRANTY EXTENSION. I WILL BE SUBMITTING MY PAPERWORK TO SEE IF THEY WILL RESOLVE MY CASE. I SURELY HOPE SO. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER HONDA AFTER READING ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT.

I CHECK MY OIL ON A REGULAR BASIS. MY ENGINE WAS NOT SHIFTING AS NORMAL AND STOPPED TO CHECK THE OIL LEVEL AND AFTER 2000 FROM MY LAST OIL CHANGE I HAD LOST OVER 2 QUARTS OF OIL. I CALLED MY HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT JAY HONDA WHERE I BOUGHT MY CAR AND THEY SAID THIS WAS NORMAL FOR MY CAR AND THAT THERE IS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. I LOOKED FOR LEAKS ON THE PAVEMENT AROUND MY CAR AND THERE WAS NONE. THE ENGINE SHOWED NO SIGNS OF BURNING OIL OF ANY KIND. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THIS WAS NORMAL FOR THIS CAR AND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING AT ALL THAT THEY COULD DO.
MY CAR BURNS A QUART OF OIL EVERY 750-1000 MILES. IT IS A 4 CYLINDER, AND THERE IS ONLY A RECALL ON THE 6 CYLINDER CARS. HONDAS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO DO THIS! I HAVE A 2002 CIVIC, AND IT'S ENGINE IS BETTER THAN MY ACCORD. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH THIS? I'VE READ A LOT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM.

THE OUTER RACE OF THE SECONDARY SHAFT BEARING IS BROKEN ACCORDING TO MY MECHANIC AND IS CAUSING ABNORMAL NOISE, THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT IS TURN ON AND THE CAR HAS STALLED ON ME. AND ONCE WHEN I HAVE PLACED THE CAR IN THE PARK POSITION IT HAS ROLLED ON ME... UPDATED 09/30/15*BF

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR AN OIL CHANGE WHICH STOPPED THE KNOCKING SOUND. AFTER 2000 MILES THE FAILURE RECURRED, AND THE OIL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT REPLENISHED THE VEHICLE WITH 2 QUARTS OF OIL, AND THE KNOCKING SOUND STOPPED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
LOW OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS. AFTER A WEEK OF DRIVING AND STILL GETTING THE LOW PRESSURE LIGHT FROM TIME TO TIME WENT TO CHANGE THE OIL AND THE GUY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS ALMOST NO OIL IN THE ENGINE. SINCE THAN I HAVE TO ADD A QUART OF OIL FOR EVERY 750 MILES DRIVEN. THAT WAS SINCE 2012... NOW I END UP POURING 4 TO 5 QUARTS BETWEEN OIL CHANGES (6000 MILES FULL SYNTHETIC OIL).
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION 1 QUART EVERY 1000 MILES WAS TOLD VIBRATION WAS HEAT SHIELD. IN REALITY VIBRATION WAS DUE TO LOW OIL IN ENGINE. OIL WAS CHANGED BY DEALERSHIP M BY JIFFY LUBE EVERY 3000 TO 5000 MILES. NOW BEING TOLD ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED OR JUST KEEP ADDING OIL TILL ENGINE FAILS.
MY CAR RATTLES SEVERELY EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT. I'M SO AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE I FEEL UNSAFE. DEPARTING A PARKING LOT AT LOW SPEED, I MADE A TURN TO THE LEFT AND HEARD A LOUD RATTLE FROM THE ENGINE. I STOPPED AT THE SERVICE STATION UP THE ROAD AND CHECKED FOR OBVIOUS LOOSE PARTS. CHECKED THE OIL AND FOUND THAT THE LEVEL BARELY REGISTERED ON THE DIPSTICK, INDICATING APPROX. 2 QUARTS LOW. I ADDED OIL AND VERIFIED THAT THE LEVEL WAS FULL. AT NO TIME DID THE ENGINE OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATE. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE HAD TO ADD ONE QUART OF OIL APPROXIMATELY EVERY 900 MILES. I NOTIFIED MY HONDA DEALER AND WAS ADVISED TO HAVE THEM PERFORM A SOFTWARE UPDATE. THE UPDATE WAS ACCOMPLISHED BUT THE RATE OF CONSUMPTION HAS NOT CHANGED. HONDA DEALER ADVISED ME THAT THIS RATE OF CONSUMPTION IS CONSIDERED NORMAL. CONSIDERING THAT THIS ENGINE HOLDS 4 QUARTS AND THAT THE AVERAGE OIL CHANGE INTERVAL IS 4,000 MILES (ACCORDING TO THE HONDA MAINTENANCE MINDER SOFTWARE), THIS MEANS THAT I AM REPLACING THE ENTIRE CONTENTS OF THE CRANKCASE BETWEEN EACH OIL CHANGE. I WAS THEN ADVISED THAT HONDA CAN PERFORM AN OIL CONSUMPTION CHECK THAT WOULD REQUIRE ME TO COME BACK TO THE DEALER EVERY 1,000 MILES (+/- 50) FOR APPROX. 1 YEAR. AFTER THAT TIME, HONDA WOULD DETERMINE, BASED ON THE RESULTS OF THE TESTS AND THE AGE/MILEAGE OF MY VEHICLE, WHETHER THEY WOULD TAKE ANY ACTION. THIS IS CLEARLY A DEFECT IN THE ENGINE, AS I CHANGE MY OIL WHEN INDICATED BY THE MAINTENANCE MINDER AND CAN PRODUCE ALL THE RECORDS TO PROVE THE CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED PROPERLY. RECENTLY I NOTICED THAT MY ENGINE IS CONSUMING MORE AND MORE OIL. I ROUTINELY GET MY OIL CHANGED EVERY 3,000-5,000 MILES AS SUGGESTED IN THE MANUAL. THIS LAST TIME, I WAS AT THE 2,000 MILE MARK WHEN MY OIL LIGHT FLASHED; I SAY FLASHED, BECAUSE THE LIGHT DID NOT STAY ON, RATHER IT WOULD GO ON ONLY WHEN I TURN A CORNER. CLEARLY THERE IS AN ISSUE AS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT HAS BEEN INITIATED BY PEOPLE WHO HAD TO REPAIR THIS DEFECT THEMSELVES. FIRST, CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SPENDING HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS A YEAR TO MAINTAIN OIL IN THEIR CAR DUE TO HONDA'S ERROR. THE REP INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS NORMAL FOR A 2008 HONDA 4CYL TO REQUIRE A QT OF OIL EVERY 1 THOUSAND MILES. REALLY? THIS IS NOT A 1975 CAR!! HE SAID THAT THIS WAS WITHIN HONDA SPECS. THE CAR BURNS UP SO MUCH OIL AT THIS POINT SO QUICKLY, I WOULD SAY THAT AT ABOUT EVERY 1000 TO 2000 MILES I AM PUTTING 4QTS MORE OF OIL INTO MY ENGINE BECAUSE IT HAS ALL BURNED UP. HIS OPINION WAS THAT A TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK IS HIGHLY UNUSUAL ON A LOW MILEAGE HONDA AND THAT HE SUSPECTED A DEFECTIVE GASKET THAT WAS IMPROPERLY SEALED, PRIOR TO LEAVING THE FACTORY. MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF LEITH HONDA IN RALEIGH,N.C., WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED, ON AUGUST 29TH, 2013. THE TORQUE CONVERTER SEAL WAS FOUND TO BE "LEAKING" AND IT WOULD COST$ 1993.00 TO REPAIR, WHICH THE DEALER WOULD NOT ASSUME. THE VEHICLE WAS AT APPROXIMATELY 105,000 MILES WHEN THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM. ON OCTOBER 3, 2012 MY OIL LIGHT FLASHED ON AND THEN BACK OFF. I HAD MY FATHER TO CHECK THE OIL AND THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO OIL IN THE CHAMBER. I IMMEDIATELY WENT AND PURCHASED 3 QUARTS OF OIL UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE HONDA DEALER. I CALLED STERLING MCCALL HONDA AND EXPLAINED THE ISSUE THAT I WAS EXPERIENCING AND WAS SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE TO VEHICLE CHECKED FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. AFTER SPEAKING TO THE REP, I BEGAN RESEARCHING THE ISSUE AND FOUND THAT SEVERAL COMPLAINTS WERE ON THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. I BOUGHT MY 2008 ACCORD USED WITH 32K ON IT. HONDA HAD A GREAT RECORD WITH RELIABILITY AND QUALITY IN THE PAST SO THIS CAR, I FIGURED, WOULD BE NO DIFFERENT. AFTER ABOUT A MONTH OF OWNERSHIP, I NOTICED THE OIL WAS LOW. I CHECKED THE OIL WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR AND IT WAS FULL, AND IT WAS NOW DOWN ABOUT A HALF A QUART. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE OIL CONSUMPTION. THEY TOPPED ME OFF, AND PUT ME ON AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, THERE WAS AN OIL CONSUMPTION RECALL ON MY CAR ABOUT A MONTH LATER. THE DEALERSHIP UPDATED THE SOFTWARE TO PREVENT OIL CONSUMPTION AND I WAS SENT ON MY WAY. ABOUT A MONTH LATER, MY CAR WAS STILL CONSUMING OIL AT ABOUT A QUART PER 2290MILES. THAT WAS THE OFFICIAL HONDA TALLY AT THE END OF MY OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. I CONTACTED HONDA THROUGH WRITTEN LETTER AND PHONE CALL SAYING THAT THEIR RECALL/SOFTWARE UPDATE DID NOT WORK AND THAT MY CAR WAS STILL CONSUMING OIL. AMERICAN HONDA WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE ME WITH ANY DOCUMENTATION ABOUT WHAT ACCEPTABLE OIL CONSUMPTION ON A CAR WAS, BUT IN THEIR WORDS IT WAS 1QT/1000 MILES. NO WHERE IN THE BILL OF SALE OR OWNERS MANUAL DOES IT SAY THE OWNER WILL HAVE TO ADD OIL DURING REGULAR DRIVING TO KEEP THE OIL AT ACCEPTABLE LEVELS. TALKING WITH BOTH AMERICAN HONDA AND DEALERSHIPS AS WELL, THEY REFUSE TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE ANY PROOF THAT CONSUMING OIL AT THIS RATE WILL NOT HARM THE CAR. I AM CURRENTLY ADDING ABOUT 1QT/1500MILES TO KEEP MY CAR FROM RUNNING OUT OF OIL, AND UNDER THE 5YEAR 60K WARRANTY, HONDA STILL HAS NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE ALL OF MY RECEIPTS OF REPAIRS AND ROUTINE MAINTENANCE FROM THE DEALERSHIP ALONG WITH DATED PHONE CONVERSATIONS TO HONDA REPS INCLUDING CASE NUMBERS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,681.

THIS IS NOTICEABLE AROUND THE 20-35 MILE PER HOUR RANGE, BUT MAY OCCUR BEFORE OR AFTER THAT SPEED. IT SEEMS DANGEROUS IF ACCELERATION IS NEEDED WHEN THE CAR WILL NOT RESPOND. I HAVE LOOKED UP HONDA SERVICE BULLETINS AND IT SEEMS THERE A RE A FEW THAT "MIGHT" FIT THE ISSUE. ONE IS RELATED TO AN OIL "LEAK" ANOTHER TO OIL "CONSUMPTION" AS WELL AS ONE RELATED TO ENGINE "LOW POWER". I BELIEVE THE OIL ISSUE EXISTS REGARDLESS AS I AM CHECKING IT NOW AND DISCOVERED IT IS ALWAYS LOW. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF OTHERS THAT MAY OR MAY NOT APPLY AS IT IS HARD TO DETERMINE THE EXACT PROBLEM AND SERVICE BULLETIN. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER FOR THIS ISSUE ONLY FOR THE DEALER TO NOT BE ABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OR IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM WHILE AT THE SHOP. EARLY ON WHILE UNDER WARRANTY THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THIS ISSUE AND SOME SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY THEY SAID THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE SPARK PLUGS. THE ISSUE HAS ALWAYS REMAINED EVEN AFTER THE REPLACEMENT OF SOME SPARK PLUGS. THEY MAY NOT HAVE REPLACED ALL OF THEM AND THUS THE ISSUE AT HAND? I WILL HAVE TO ASK THE DEALER FOR A SERVICE HISTORY IF THEY HAVE IT SINCE I MAY NOT HAVE ALL THE RECORDS. THE CAR WILL GO BACK AGAIN FOR THIS ISSUE AFTER WRITING THIS. I AM DEFINITELY A NAMED PARTY IN THE GIBBS LAWSUIT AS OF 12/17/09. I HAVE NOT PAID TO FIX MY REAR BRAKES YET. OTHER PROBLEMS I AM HAVING IS MY NAVIGATION FREEZES UP, I HAVE THIS RATTLING SOUND IN MY FRONT DRIVERS DOOR, MY FRONT PASSENGER DOOR SOUNDS LIKE IT IS NOT CLOSED ALL THE WAY BECAUSE I HEAR ROAD NOISE, AND TWICE NOW MY WIPERS HAVE CONTINUED TO STAY ON EVEN THOUGH I TURNED THEM OFF OR THE WIPERS WILL BE "DELAYED" EVEN THOUGH THE WIPERS ARE OFF, MY GLOVE BOX IS MISALIGNED ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE AND AT TIMES WHEN I AM PULLING INTO THE GARAGE WITH MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE FORWARD A LITTLE. I AM FINISHED WITH THIS CAR!!!! MY 2008 ACCORD IS MY 3RD ACCORD AND BY FAR THE MOST OBNOXIOUS LEMON I HAVE EVER OWNED. MY 1986 AND 2000 ACCORDS WERE MORE "HONDA" THAN MY 2008 ACCORD. WENT TO TURN ON MY AC LAST WEEKEND AND FOUND THAT IT WAS BLOWING HOT. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET IT FIXED AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE AC CONDENSER. WAS TOLD THAT IN ALL LIKELIHOOD A STONE HAD BEEN PICKED UP FROM THE ROAD AND DONE THE DAMAGE TO THE CONDENSER. WAS DISMAYED TO FIND THAT SUCH DAMAGE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY DESPITE IT COMING FROM A POSSIBLE DESIGN FLAW WITH THE CAR. *TR
VARIABLE CYLINDER MANAGEMENT TRANSMISSION UNEXPECTEDLY SURGES IN TRAFFIC. IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, OR SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS, A SUDDEN UNEXPECTED SURGE IN THE CAR COULD RESULT IN HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT. *TR

A/C BLOWING HOT AIR, TOOK TO DEALER, TOLD THAT A ROCK OR SOME DEBRIS HIT THE CONDENSER AND CAUSED A LEAK, TOLD REPAIR NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY DUE TO ROAD HAZARD, LIKE A WINDSHIELD GETTING CRACKED, ESTIMATED $650 TO REPLACE CONDENSER. ONLY HAD CAR FOR 1 YR, 18800 MILES. *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD IN JANUARY OF 2008. AUGUST 2008, MY AIR STOPPED WORKING. I TOOK THE CAR TO HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT A ROCK OR A PEBBLE HIT THE CONDENSER AND THAT IT IS CAUSING THE FREON TO LEAK OUT. I TOOK THE CAR TO ANOTHER MECHANIC THEY ADVISED ME THAT HONDA IS JERKING MY CHAIN BECAUSE THAT IS NOT THE CASE. I TOLD THE PEOPLE AT HONDA, THAT THERE IS NOTHING PROTECTING THE CONDENSER FROM THE DEBRIS, IT IS POORLY DESIGNED ON THAT ASPECT. I TOLD THEM THAT I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED, THEY WOULD NOT TRY TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE WITH ME AT ALL. THEY ARE EXPECTING ME TO COVER THE COST FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE A 2008 HONDA ACCORD LX. WHEN AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR CYCLES THE LIGHTS DIM AND THEN GO BACK TO NORMAL AS IF YOU WERE FLASHING YOUR HEADLIGHTS. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE CONTACT'S WIFE STARTED THE VEHICLE AND LIGHTLY TAPPED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH STRAIGHT INTO A HOME ACROSS THE STREET. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THEY FAILED TO WORK PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN MOVED SINCE THE DAY OF THE FIRST INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER, BUT THEY DID NOT EXPLAIN WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE OR DEFECT. 2008 HONDA ACCORD EXL WITH VARIABLE CYLINDER MANAGEMENT ENGINE. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE AD SAYS THE TRANSITION BETWEEN CYLINDER IN THE ENGINE IS UNFELT. HE STATES THAT IS A LIE THE PASSENGERS CAN FEEL WHEN THE ENGINE CHANGES. *KB ACCORDING TO HONDA, THE SYSTEM CAN ACTIVATE AND DEACTIVATE THE ENGINE'S CYLINDERS AS NEEDED TO MEET THE DEMANDS OF BOTH ACCELERATION AND FUEL SAVING. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE CONSTANTLY SURGES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, EVEN WHEN ON CRUISE CONTROL.

WENT FROM WARM IDLE AT 600 AND IS NOW 8-900RPMS.LIGHTS STILL DO THE SAME THING BUT THEY AGREE THERE WAS A VOLTAGE DROP AFTER TWO DEALERS SAID IT WAS ACHARCTERISTIC.AFTER TWO MONTH THE CARS GOING BACK IN FOR A SECOND SEAT TRACK AND A SYL PLATE THAT WAS DAMAGED.NOW ALONG WITH A LIST OF PROBLEMS THE FRONT BUMPER IS PEALING IN SAME SPOT ON LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE NEAR HEADLIGHTS.I ALREADT COMPLAINED ABOUT THE BUMPERS NOT FITTING.DEALER DID IDLE RELEARN PROCEDEURE THAT DID NOTHING.CHECK FUEL CAP MESSAGE COMES ON AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON.THEY CLAIM AFTER 20 YEARS OF DRIVING AND 4 HONDAS,I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PUT A GAS CAP ON.WORST CAR I EVER HAD.THE WORST PART IS THE ATTITUDE OF THE DEALERS AND HONDA.I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR OVER TWO MONTHS FOR A REP,LAS TIME DEALER SNUCK A NOTE IN THAT I REFUSED TO SEE THE REP.I FAXED THEM A DEMAND LETTER TO SEE THE REP AND ANOTHER DEALER WAS ALSO SUPPOSED TO SET A MEETING UP.THEY CLAIM HE IS OUT WITH A BAD BACK(PHILADELPHIA AREA REP,)I AM SUING HONDA UNDER THE LEMON LAW.I HAD ENOUGH.THE SUIT WAS FILED AND MY COURT DATE IS IN OCTOBER,CONTACT ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS.CAR ALO SMELL LIKE A ROTTEN EGG. *TR
