AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling specific 2003 Acura 3.2CL, 2013-2016 ILX, 2013-2014 ILX Hybrid, 2003-2006 MDX, 2007-2016 RDX, 2002-2003 3.2TL, 2004-2006, and 2009-2014 TL, 2010-2013 ZDX and 2001-2007 and 2009 Honda Accord, 2001-2005 Civic, 2003-2005 Civic Hybrid, 2001-2005 Civic GX NGV, 2002-2007 and 2010-2011 CR-V, 2003-2011 Element, 2007 Fit, 2002-2004 Odyssey, 2003-2008 Pilot, and 2006-2014 Ridgeline vehicles. The affected vehicles received a replacement driver air bag inflator as part of a previous Takata inflator recall remedy or a replacement driver air bag module containing the same inflator type as a service part. Due to a manufacturing error, in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver frontal air bag, these inflators may explode.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's air bag inflator with an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began April 10, 2019. Honda owners may contact customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is O41. Acura owners may contact customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Acura's number for this recall is U40.

These vehicles are equipped with driver frontal air bag inflators assembled as a recall remedy part or replacement service part, that may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began August 12, 2019. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are Q5A and Y58.

The front passenger air bag may have been installed incorrectly during replacement.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the passenger frontal air bag module assembly, free of charge. The recall began June 22, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are K1P, and M1O.

Specifically, vehicles sold, or ever registered, in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Saipan, Guam, and American Samoa are addressed by this recall. Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger side air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began January 26, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009.

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2001-2005 Honda Civic vehicles manufactured March 21, 2000, to January 20, 2005, 2001-2004 Honda Civic GX vehicles manufactured June 14, 2000, to August 19, 2004, 2003-2005 Honda Civic Hybrid vehicles manufactured February 24, 2002, to January 18, 2005, 2003-2007 Honda Accord vehicles manufactured February 21, 2002, to August 28, 2007, 2002-2004 Honda CR-V vehicles, 2002-2003 Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured June 19, 2001, to July 12, 2003, 2003 Acura MDX vehicles manufactured September 19, 2002, to June 19, 2003, 2003 Honda Element vehicles manufactured June 25, 2002, to July 31, 2003, and 2003 Honda Pilot vehicles manufactured November 26, 2001, to August 21, 2003. The affected vehicles have a passenger side frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture upon its deployment.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are JU4, JU5, JU6, and JU7. Note: Vehicles that have already received a replacement passenger air bag inflator as part of the recall remedy for an earlier campaign such as 14V353 or 14V700 (Honda recall numbers S95, JH6, JH7, JH8, JH9, JJ0, JJ1, JJ2, JJ6, JM5 and JM6) are not included in this recall. However, this recall does supersede 13V132 and 14V349. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2004-2007 Accord vehicles manufactured October 1, 2003, to August 17, 2007. The affected vehicles may have been assembled with an incorrect passenger frontal air bag module that does not comply with the advanced air bag requirements. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the air bag module as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 2, 2016. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009. Honda's number for this recall is JZ3.

The affected vehicles are equipped with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion and other factors, including manufacturing variability that, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Owners may contact Acura customer service at 1-800-382-2238, select option 4. Note: Vehicles that have had their driver frontal air bag replaced previously as part of a recall remedy prior to September 12, 2014 need to have their air bag replaced under this recall as well. Vehicles that, on or after September 12, 2014, received a remedy for a prior driver frontal air bag inflator recall already received an inflator of a different design, and therefore are not included in this recall and do not require additional servicing. Note: This recall fully supersedes recalls 08V-593, 09V-259, 10V-041, 11V-260, 14V-351 and 15V-153. Honda's numbers for this recall are JQ9, JR0, JR1, JR2, JR3, JR4, JR5, JR6, JR7, and JR8.

Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.

Fix: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the inflators in all affected vehicles, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during August 2014. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE-INACTIVE

ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE SEAT POSITION SENSOR (SPS) DETECTS THE DRIVER'S SEATING POSITION AND ADJUSTS THE AIR BAG INFLATION PRESSURE ACCORDINGLY. THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE SPS WAS ATTACHED TO THE SEAT FRAME IN THE WRONG LOCATION AND MAY HAVE BEEN OVER TIGHTENED. THE SENSOR WIRE MAY BREAK AND CAUSE THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT TO BE ILLUMINATED, AND THE SPS TO FAIL.

Fix: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SEAT POSITION SENSOR WIRING SUBHARNESS. THE RECALL WILL BEGIN ON OR ABOUT FEBRUARY 8, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

ON CERTAIN SEDANS, A TEAR IN THE FABRIC OF THE DRIVER'S FRONT AIR BAG OCCURRED AFTER APPARENT CONTACT WITH THE INSIDE SURFACE OF THE AIR BAG COVER DURING DEPLOYMENT.

Fix: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A PROTECTIVE FABRIC FLAP BETWEEN THE AIR BAG MODULE COVER AND THE INNER MODULE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 30, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

THE DRIVER AND FRONT SEAT PASSENGER SUSTAINED WHIPLASH AND INJURIES TO THE NECK, BACK, AND LEG DUE TO THE SEAT BELT RESTRAINTS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. I JUST HAD MY OIL CHANGED TODAY AND THE REPAIR SHOP ADVISED ME THAT THERE WAS AN ERROR CODE WHICH MEANS DEFECTIVE AIR BAG. ALSO THE DRIVER SEAT BELT BUCKLE SHOWED DEFECTIVE. YESTERDAY I RECEIVED 2 DIFFERENT EMAILS FROM NHTSA FOR 2 RECALLS (#19V499 AND #19V501). NO LETTER WAS RECEIVED FROM HONDA YET BUT I HATE TO WAIT FOR A LETTER TO ARRIVE AS THAT COULD TAKE 60 DAYS, THEN WOULD HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE DEALER TO GET THE PARTS AND THEN GET AN APPOINTMENT. THIS SITUATION IS LIFE-THREATENING. IS THERE ANY WAY TO SPEED THIS PROCESS UP? ALSO THE REPAIR SHOP STATED THAT A LOT OF THE AIR BAGS THAT HAVE BEEN REPLACED, ARE NOW BEING RECALLED.

"TAKATA RECALL" WE HAVE 2 HONDAS THAT HAD THE AIRBAGS REPLACED AS PART OF THE RECALL. SHORTLY AFTER THE AIRBAG WAS REPLACED THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON THE DASHBOARD OF BOTH VEHICLES. RT. 23 HONDA, POMPTON PLAINS, NJ DID THE REPLACEMENT. THEY WANT $300 FOR EACH VEHICLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM THAT THEY SAY IS NOT RELATED TO THE AIRBAG REPLACEMENT. IT SEEMS UNLIKELY THAT BOTH OF OUR CARS WOULD HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AFTER THE AIRBAG REPLACEMENT. I HAVE FILED SECOND REPORT SINCE 2 VIN NUMBERS ARE INVOLVED. I ALSO FILED A REPORT WITH HONDA. WE LAST SPOKE TO RT. 23 HONDA ABOUT THIS ON 4/21/2016.

I WAS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING A HONDA ACCORD 2005 AND WAS REAR ENDED BY A BMW X5. THERE SEEMED TO BE MINOR DAMAGE TO MY REAR BUMPER WITH NO COLLISION FROM THE FRONT. AFTER TAKING MY 05 ACCORD IN FOR THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAG RECALL AND HAVING THEM REPLACED, THE EMPLOYEE AT THE HONDA SERVICE CENTER TOLD ME THAT MY SRS LIGHT IS ON AND IT IS PROBABLY BECAUSE OF THE SENSOR FOR THE HARNESS. THIS LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON AND OFF FOR WELL OVER A YEAR, AND RECENTLY HAS JUST STAYED ON AT ALL TIMES. HE TOLD ME IT WOULD COST $130 JUST TO DIAGNOSE THIS PROBLEM, AND THEN THE COST OF FIXING IT, IF THIS IS INDEED WHAT IS CAUSING THE LIGHT TO STAY ON. MY VIN IS NOT PART OF THE HONDA RECALL FOR THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE, I BELIEVE HONDA SOMEHOW DID NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT ALL OF THE VINS THAT ARE EFFECTED BY THIS RECALL. I TALKED TO HONDA AND THEY ARE UNWILLING TO HELP AT ALL. I AM CURRENTLY PREGNANT AND A PETITE WOMAN, THE HIGHEST RISK FACTOR FOR THIS ISSUE IF THE AIRBAGS FAIL TO DEPLOY. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN HONDA. WILL BE CONTACTING MY ATTORNEY AFTER DIAGNOSIS IS MADE, ASSUMING DIAGNOSIS IS SPECIFICALLY THE SAME AS THE RECALL.

THIS PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN COMPLAINT NUMBERS 10651654, 10652518, 10659813, 10717673, AND 10722366. THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY COMES ON AND STAYS ON WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED. IT CONTINUES TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED INDEFINITELY WHILE THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. HOWEVER, UPON RESTART IT LIGHTS BRIEFLY AND THEN GOES OFF, WHICH APPEARS TO BE NORMAL OPERATION. THE INTERMITTENT NATURE OF THE PROBLEM MEANS IT CAN'T BE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. HOWEVER, OUR CONCERN IS THAT THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM FIRST APPEARS ABOUT 2013 OR EARLY 2014 AND HAS CONTINUED TO OCCUR THEREAFTER. PLEASE NOTE THE STRIKINGLY HIGH NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS OF THIS ISSUE FOR THIS MODEL. FIVE OF THE FIFTEEN COMPLAINTS DEAL WITH EXACT ISSUE, AND TWO OTHER COMPLAINTS (10567527 AND 10567640) REPORT THE FAILURE OF THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY IN ACCIDENTS IN WHICH THEY CERTAINLY SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THUS ALMOST HALF OF THE COMPLAINTS DEAL WITH AIRBAG OPERATION FAILURE. NOTE ALSO THAT THIS IS ON A RELATIVELY LOW-VOLUME MODEL. ONLY ABOUT 25,000 HONDA ACCORD HYBRID 2005 WERE SOLD IN THE US. UNLIKE MOST 2005 HONDA ACCORDS, THIS MODEL (THE HYBRID) WAS MANUFACTURED IN JAPAN, NOT THE US, AND THUS HAS MANY DIFFERENT PART SUPPLIERS. I ALSO NOTICE THAT THIS MODEL IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE TAKATA RECALL, DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT APPARENTLY HAS A TAKATA AIRBAG SYSTEM.

THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. I HAD THE FAULT CODE READ BEFORE BRINGING THE CAR TO HONDA. THE FAULT CODE WAS A BAD SENSOR ONLY. HONDA REPLACED THE SENSOR AND THE SRS CONTROL UNIT AS WELL. WITH LOW MILEAGE ON THE CAR I CALLED HONDA MOTORS CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY LOOKED INTO THE ISSUE AND DETERMINED THE REPAIRS WERE NEEDED AND THEY COULD NOT HELP IN ANY WAY. REPAIRS COST $750.01

I FURTHER RESEARCHED THE AVG HUMIDITY LEVELS AND TEMPS OF ALL 50 STATES TO FIND THAT THE HUMIDITY LEVELS OF THE STATES ON THE RECALL LIST ARE LOWER THAN ABOUT 26 OTHER STATES. TO VALIDATE MY FINDINGS, I LOOKED UP THE SAME INFORMATION ON SEVERAL UNRELATED WEBSITES. ONE INTERESTING NOTE, THE AVG. HUMIDITY IN CA (NOT MY STATE) IS HIGHER THAN THESE STATES AND AVG. TEMP. IS ONLY 3 DIFFERENT THAN SC. BASED OFF OF MY INITIAL FINDINGS, I FEEL THAT WHOMEVER IS DETERMINING WHICH VEHICLES SHOULD BE RECALLED SHOULD BE MORE CLEAR ON HOW THEY DETERMINE WHICH VEHICLES ARE SELECTED FOR RECALL. I'VE NOTICED A FAULTINESS WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT INDICATOR/SENSOR. AFTER THE ENGINE IS STARTED, THE LIGHT STAYS ON AND CONTINUES TO STAY ON UNTIL I RESTART THE ENGINE, AT WHICH TIME THE LIGHT MAY OR MAY NOT TURN OFF. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER THERE IS A PASSENGER PRESENT IN THE PASSENGER'S SEAT OR NOT. THE LIGHT FAULTINESS HAPPENS AT RANDOM. THOUGH MANY MODELS OF HONDA ACCORDS HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER A RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE, HONDA IS TELLING ME MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED. AFTER CONTACTING HONDA THEY SAID THEY WOULD SEND A REPRESENTATIVE TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO CHECK TO TAKE CARE OF THE REPAIR BUT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN EL CERRITO CA DID NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR AND WANTED TO CHARGE FULL AMOUNT TO FIX IT SAYING THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I NEEDED MY CAR SOON FOR MY TRANSPORTATION SO I WENT TO MY TRUSTED MECHANIC TO REPAIR THE AIRBAG AND HE INFORMED ME IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BECUASE THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG COULD DEPLOY AT ANYTIME WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH OR INJURY OR FATALITY. I WOULD APPRECIATE A FULL REFUND FROM HONDA FOR COST OF THE REPAIR AS IT CAME OUT TO BE $3,374.68. THIS COST IS VERY HIGH AND I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS SAFETY MALFUNCTION. THEY ASK ME TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN THE NEXT DAY. THE DEALER SHIP AND HONDA AMERICA INSPECTED THE VEHICLE THEIR DETERMINATION WAS THAT THERE WAS UNDERBODY DAMAGE. I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT THEY SHOWED ME. IT WAS A SCRATCH, LIKE SOMEONE TOOK A SCREWDRIVER OR SOMETHING AND SCRATCHED THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS THERE REASON FOR DEPLOYMENT. LONG STORY SHORT THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY FELT IT WASN'T THEIR FAULT. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH HONDA AND HOW THIS WAS HANDLED. HONDA STATES THEY ARE SO BIG ON SAFETY FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS BUT YET THEY WILL NOT FIX VEHICLES THAT HAVE DEFECTIVE PARTS THAT SHOULD BE ON A RECALL LIST, AND NOW I HAVE A VEHICLE WITH NO SIDE AIRBAGS AND NO SEAT BELT. WHERE IS THE SAFETY CONCERN?? WHAT IF THIS WOULD HAVE CAUSE AND ACCIDENT WHERE SOME ONE WAS INJURY, MY YOUNGEST DAUGHTER WAS IN THE CAR WITH ME WHEN THIS AIRBAG DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. THANK GOD IT DIDN'T CAUSE ME TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAVE DONE MY OWN RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS SAME INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL OTHER CUSTOMERS. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SYMPTOM IS IDENTICAL TO THAT ADDRESSED BY RECALL NUMBER: 07V001000, WHICH APPLIED TO CERTAIN 2004 AND 2005 HONDA ACCORDS. HOWEVER, MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE HONDA RECALL. I BELIEVE THAT THE OMISSION OF MY 2005 HONDA ACCORD'S VIN FROM RECALL NUMBER 07V001000 IS IN ERROR AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED. THE HONDA DEALER CHANGED AN INITIAL $95.07 FOR DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM, AND HAS OFFERED TO INSTALL A NEW WIRING HARNESS AT MY EXPENSE. AT THIS TIME NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN. AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT ON 2005 HONDA ACCORD CAME ON FOR NO REASON. HONDA CHARGED ME $110 TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND SAID THE DRIVER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG WAS MALFUNCTIONING. THEY SAID IT WAS $985 TO REPLACE AND THAT AIRBAGS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER THE LIFETIME WARRANTY LIKE SEATBELTS WERE. DEALERSHIP SUGGESTED I SPEAK WITH HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE BECAUSE THEY TOO WERE SURPRISED IT WASN'T COVERED. HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THERE WAS NO WAY THEY WOULD PAY FOR IT. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT BECAUSE THE INDICATOR LIGHT REMAINS ON, THAT MY CAR WOULD PROBABLY NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION. NOW I AM OUT THE $110 I PAID TO FIRST GET THIS INFORMATION, AND HAVE A CAR THAT MAY NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION DUE TO A MALFUNCTIONING AIRBAG THAT HONDA DOES NOT HAVE AN EXPLANATION FOR. *TR

THE SEAT BELTS IN THE 2005 HONDA ACCORD HYBRID PROVIDED NO SAFETY IN A COLLISION. THE AIRBAGS ALSO FAILED TO DEPLOY IN THE SAME COLLISION. I WAS THE PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT OF A 2005 HONDA ACCORD HYBRID WHEN WE REAR ENDED A VOLVO S-80. THE VOLVO THEN STRUCK AN ALTIMA. THE ACCORD STRUCK THE VOLVO WITH CONSIDERABLE FORCE. THE VOLVO'S TRUNK WAS DAMAGED AND WOULD NOT OPEN. THE STRUCTURAL BAR IN THE ACCORD PROTECTING THE RADIATOR WAS ALSO BEND BEYOND REPAIR. I HAD THE PASSENGER SEAT AS FAR BACK AS IT WOULD GO AND WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT. DURING THE COLLISION MY KNEES STRUCK THE FRONT DASH AND SWELLED. THE DRIVER ALSO SUFFERED SEVERE KNEE PAIN MOSTLY LIKELY FROM STRIKING HER KNEES AGAINST THE DASH OR STEERING COLUMN. I BELIEVE THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. EVEN IF THE BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY THEN THE SEAT BELTS SHOULD HAVE HELD. THE SEAT BELTS IN THE 2005 HONDA ACCORD HYBRID PROVIDED NO SAFETY IN A COLLISION.

THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE AIR BAG SENSOR WIRING HARNESS. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V001000 (AIR BAGS;FRONTAL;SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE). THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE IDENTICAL FAILURES AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. THE VIN NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.

I PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE ON APRIL 28TH 2008. THE CARFAX REPORT HAD AN ACCIDENT INDICATOR BY THE SECOND OWNER, BUT DID NOT MENTION WHAT TYPE OF ACCIDENT IN TERMS OF MODERATE, MINOR, NO DAMAGE, ETC. THIS REPORT WAS PRINTED MARCH 24TH 2008. WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON, AND WHEN DRIVING; IT STILL STAYED ON AND I TOLD ATLANTA USED CAR DEALERSHIP, WHO TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP TO LOOK AT IT AND STATED THAT ITS PROBABLY A GLITCH. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE HONDA CAR DEALERSHIP TO INSPECT. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP FOUND THE SRS CONTROL UNIT AND THE PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG FAULTY. AS STATED ON MY CUSTOMER INVOICE FROM GWINNETT PLACE HONDA, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG APPEARED TO BE CUT OUT. CARFAX DID NOT REPORT THAT THERE IS A DEFICIENT AIRBAG. ANOTHER INCIDENT FOUND IS THAT THE ACCELERATOR OCCASIONALLY STICK WHEN TRYING TO DEPRESS. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP FOUND THERE WAS A CARBON BUILD UP AND IT NEEDED SERVICE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE RIGHT OUTER TIE ROD END, WHICH IS ON THE RIGHT PASSENGER WHERE THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. THE DEALER STATED IT WAS UNSAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE WITHOUT REPLACING THE TIE ROD, WHICH WAS SERVICED AND THEY ALSO PERFORMED A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND TEST DRIVE BEFORE I LEFT. I CURRENTLY OWN A 2005 HONDA. I JUST RECENTLY HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT THAT REALLY HAS ME CONCERNED. FROM WHAT I'M TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER AT ONE HONDA DEALERSHIP THE WIRING HARNESS UNDER THE DRIVERSIDE SEAT WAS TOO SHORT AND BROKE. THE SRS (SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM) LIGHT WENT ON INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. THIS APPARENTLY DETECTS WHEN SOMEONE IS LEANING TO FAR FOWARD IN THE SEAT AND WOULD PREVENT THE AIRBAG DEPLOYING AND INJURING THEM. THIS DISABLED THE AIRBAG IN MY CAR. NO AIRBAG. NO PROTECTION. THE WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACED AS WELL AS THE SENSOR ASSEMBLY. THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM. I AM REPORTING THIS BECAUSE THE 2004 HONDA ACCORDS HAD A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE AN 05 AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THIS IS A PROBLEM HONDA SHOULD FIX IMMEDIATLEY. I'M TOLD THE 05'S HAVE NO RECALLS. I WANT TO BE PROTECTED IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. HONDA NEEDS TO FIX THIS IN ALL THE 05'S. THE SRS WIRING HARNESS SHOULD NOT BE SO DELICATE OR SHORT THAT IT CAN BREAK JUST FROM MOVING YOUR SEAT BACK AND FORTH.

THE SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER HAD FRIED SINCE THE SEAT BELT WAS LOCKED AND WAS NOT RETRACTING IN ADDITION, THE SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER HAD FRIES. I HAD CONTACTED HONDA NORTH AMERICA, AND THEY REPORTED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE BEHAVED AS IT WAS SUPPOSE TO. HOWEVER, AFTER CONTACTING NHTSA, THE REPRESENTATIVE STATED WITH A 2005 HONDA ACCORD, IF THE SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER FIRES, THE AIRBAG SHOULD FIRE SIMULTANEOUSLY, WHO THEN SUGGESTED ME TO SUBMIT A CLAIM TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE DID UNDERGO REPAIR AUTHORIZED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE SEAT BELT WAS REPLACED IN ADDITION TO THE AIRBAG MODULE AND OTHER ASSOCIATED ITEMS. THEY DID A VISUAL INSPECTION AND COULD FIND NO REASON WHY THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO KEEP THE CAR OVER NIGHT SO THAT THEY COULD LOOK AT IT MORE CLOSELY. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED TO CHECK THE STATUS OF MY CAR AND AT THAT TIME I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY DAMAGE TO MY CAR BUT THEY NEEDED TO CONTINUE LOOKING. 15 MINUTES LATER I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL STATING THAT THEY HAD FOUND A SMALL SCRATCH ON THE BOTTOM OF MY CAR AND THAT WAS THE CAUSE OF MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYING. I AM INSISTING THAT I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING BECAUSE THE HIGHWAY WAS CLEAR AT THE TIME. AM I GETTING THE RUN AROUND FROM HONDA? IS THIS NORMAL? *JB

THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT RAN A COMPUTER TEST ON THE CAR AND CONFIRMED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG WAS NOT RECEIVING A SIGNAL, AND IN FACT WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. IN SHORT, THE AIRBAG WAS NON-FUNCTIONAL. THE DEALER HAD THE CAR UNTIL TODAY, 8/24/2005. THEIR FIX WAS TO "CLEAR THE CODE" AND MAKE THE LIGHT GO OFF. THEY CLAIM THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM, AND WANTED TO RETURN THE CAR TO US. NO PARTS WERE REPLACED. THE LIGHT SIMPLY TURNED OFF AND THEY CONSIDER THAT "FIXED" I SUPPOSE. I INSISTED ON AN EXPLANATION, SINCE THIS IS A CRITICAL SAFETY ITEM. WE WERE TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IN HONDA ACCORDS, THE AIRBAG'S FUNCTIONALITY CAN BE COMPROMISED BY A CELL PHONE BEING IN THE CAR! IF THIS IS THE CASE, THE CARS SHOULD BE RECALLED! THERE'S EVEN A SPECIAL POWER JACK BETWEEN THE FRONT SEATS FOR CELL PHONES. THERE'S NO TELLING HOW MANY HONDA DRIVERS ARE IN DANGER IF WHAT THE DEALER TOLD ME IS THE CASE. HOW CAN A CAR MANUFACTURER AND DEALER KNOWINGLY SELL A VEHICLE WHOSE PRIMARY SAFETY FEATURE DEACTIVATES BECAUSE THE OWNER IS CARRYING A CELL PHONE? WE LEFT THE DEALER WITH OUR CAR (8/24/05). ABOUT 2 MILES DOWN THE ROAD THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. WE IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO THE DEALER. THEY HAVE THE CAR AGAIN AND ARE GOING TO CALL "HONDA TECH" FOR ADVICE. I AM THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS VEHICLE AND AM ANGRY THAT WE AND THOUSANDS OF OTHER ACCORD DRIVERS COULD BE AT RISK OF INJURY/DEATH BECAUSE OF A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT HASN'T BEEN ANNOUNCED BY THE MFG AND REMEDIED. I DON'T WANT THE CAR ANYMORE BECAUSE I DON'T BELIEVE IT'S SAFE. I WANT MY MONEY BACK.

DT: THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING A 2005 HONDA ACCORD HYBRID. AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE AND ENDED UP IN A DITCH. THERE WAS FRONT DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS HIT WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT END. THE HIGHWAY PATROLMAN ON THE SCENE STATED THAT THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED, AND IT HAS NOT YET BEEN INSPECTED. CONSUMER SUSTAINED SEVERE WHIPLASH. THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT TAKEN. THE OTHER DRIVER WAS CHARGED WITH FAILURE TO YIELD RIGHT OF WAY. THE OTHER VEHICLE, 2000 VOLKSWAGEN, WAS TOTALED. THERE WERE SIX AIRBAGS ON THIS VEHICLE AND NONE OF THEM DEPLOYED. *AK *TT

DT: CONSUMER STATES HER VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH A TRUCK CABIN THAT WAS LEFT ABANDONED ON FREEWAY 280 IN PALO ALTO, CA. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE SPUN SEVERAL TIMES AND SIDE SWIPED ANOTHER VEHICLE PARKED IN THE VEHICLE SERVICE LANE. IT LANDED IN THE HILLSIDE OF THE FREEWAY. THE VEHICLE SAFETY FEATURES INCLUDED FRONT, SIDE, AND PANEL AIRBAGS. NONE OF WHICH DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS BY AMERICAN EXPRESS PROPERTY AND CAUSALITY INSURANCE. IT IS PRESENTLY LOCATED STURKEN AUTO BODY IN SAN JOSE, CA. IT IS SCHEDULED FOR IMMEDIATE TOWING BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO IV COMPANY IN NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA FOR SALVAGE. THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT. THE CONSUMER WAS INJURED IN THIS VEHICLE. THERE MAYBE OTHER INJURIES BECAUSE THERE WERE 4 OTHER VEHICLES INVOLVED. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT SEEN THE POLICE REPORT YET. WHILE DRIVING HOME ON INTERSTATE 93 IN HEAVY TRAFFIC I NOTICED A SMALL OBJECT IN THE ROAD THAT I HAD THOUGHT I AVOIDED, BUT IN A INSTANT THE PASSENGER SIDE AND SEAT AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THE CAR FILLED WITH A SMOKY SUBSTANCE, CAUSING VISIBILITY TO BE LIMITED, MY WIFE AND I WERE STARTLED BUT OK, WE FIRST THOUGHT WE HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. WE PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THE CAR AND FOUND NO DAMAGE. THE CAR IS 2005 NEW HONDA ACCORD HYBRID BRAND NEW WITH ONLY 500 MILES ON IT. AFTER WE COMPOSED OURSELVES WE CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY INDICATED TO PARK THE CAR AND DO NOT DRIVE IT SO WE HAD IT TOWED. THE DEALER PUT THE CAR ON A LIFT AND CALLED US TO SAY THEY COULD SEE A SCRATCH UNDER THE CAR WHERE SOMETHING MUST HAVE HIT A SENSOR AND THEN TRIGGERED THE AIR BAGS. IF THIS HAD BEEN ON THE DRIVERS SIDE I CAN ASSURE YOUR THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORST. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT SUCH A SMALL OBJECT WOULD TRIGGER THIS TO GO OFF, RATHER THAN A SAFETY ITEM THESE ARE A HAZARD. I WILL FEAR SEEING AN OBJECT ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE FUTURE AND ALWAYS WONDER IF THE AIR BAGS WILL DEPLOY. DOES THIS SOUND NORMAL OR WAS THE DEALER TELLING ME THE TRUTH? I HAD TO FILE AN INSURANCE CLAIM BECAUSE THE DEALER STATED IT WAS MY FAULT. THE CAR IS NOW SITTING WAITING FOR THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER TO LOOK AT IT. *AK
