BRAKE PEDAL IS SOFT AND SPONGY. HAVE HAD BRAKE FLUID AND MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED BUT AIR SEEMS TO BE GETTING INTO HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. HAVE CALLED ATTENTION TO HONDA SERVICE PERSONNEL OF SERVICE BULLETIN 07_045 BUT SRVICE REP DISCLAIM ANY PROBLEM. I AM FEARFUL OF TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE AND POSSIBLE AIRBAG EXPLOSIVE DEPLOYMENT!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE RADIO FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE PADS, DOME LIGHT, AND MULTIPLE PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 252,869.

MOST RECENTLY, THE CONTACT SMELLED A BURNING ODOR WHILE DRIVING AND NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE WHEEL. THE CONTACT MOVED OFF THE ROADWAY AND DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE BRAKE HAD SEIZED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE BRAKES WERE ALLOWED TO COOL. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE BRAKE CALIPERS NEEDED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.

THE CONTACT ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO COOL DOWN FOR SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO ADVISED THAT THE CALIPERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD ONLY OCCUR WHEN OPERATING THE VEHICLE IN COLDER WEATHER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
MY WIFE HAD PARKED IN A PARKING SPACE WITH A VERY SLIGHT DOWNWARD SLOPE. THERE WAS ANOTHER SPACE AHEAD OF HER. SHE HAD BEEN DRIVING IN A HEAVY RAIN. THE CAR WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. WHEN SHE RETURNED ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER, THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT HARD. SHE STARTED THE ENGINE AND SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. THE CAR STARTED COASTING FORWARD. THE BRAKES REMAINED HARD AND DIDN'T STOP THE CAR. SHE STOPPED IT BY SHIFTING TO PARK, THEN TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. SHE REPEATED THE ATTEMPT TO BACK OUT OF THE SPACE - SAME RESULT. NO ERROR MESSAGES APPEARED. SHE CALLED, AND I DROVE TO THE SCENE. THE RAIN HAD STOPPED. I FELT THE HARDNESS OF THE BRAKE PEDAL, ALTHOUGH IT FELT MORE LIKE A STIFF SPRING THAN A NON-POWER BRAKE PEDAL TO ME. I PUMPED THE SPRINGY PEDAL A FEW TIMES; IT DIDN'T CHANGE. I STARTED THE ENGINE, KEEPING MY FOOT LIGHTLY ON THE BRAKE. WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED, THE STIFFNESS IMMEDIATELY DISAPPEARED, THE PEDAL FELT NORMAL, THE TRANSMISSION WORKED, AND THE CAR DROVE NORMALLY. I DIDN'T GET TO EXPERIENCE THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. LATER, I COULD FIND NO PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. THE LINKAGE HAS ONLY A VERY SLIGHT AMOUNT OF PLAY, AS IT SHOULD. I DEPLETED THE VACUUM SUPPLY BY PUMPING THE BRAKES WITH THE ENGINE OFF. THE PEDAL FELT VERY HARD, UNLIKE THE SPRINGY FEEL IN THE PARKING LOT. I HAVE A PHD IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AND A LOT OF CAR REPAIR EXPERIENCE. THIS BACKGROUND LEADS ME TO CONCLUDE THAT IT IS EXTREMELY UNLIKELY FOR THE UNRELATED BRAKING AND TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS TO FAIL SIMULTANEOUSLY, AND THEN RECOVER SIMULTANEOUSLY. THERE HAS TO BE ANOTHER COMMON CAUSE, WHICH LEADS ME TO SUSPECT THE COMPUTER SYSTEM OR POSSIBLY A SENSOR, PARTICULARLY BECAUSE THIS HAPPENED AFTER DRIVING IN A HEAVY RAIN. THE POSTULATED FAILURE MODE IS A COMPROMISED COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT COULD PARTIALLY ACTIVATE THE ABS SYSTEM AND ALSO FAIL TO OPERATE THE REVERSE SOLENOID VALVE IN THE TRANSMISSION.
BRAKES ARE OVERLY SENSITIVE, PARTICULARLY DURING HIGH IDLE WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO APPLY THE BRAKES QUICKLY WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL FEELING AS THOUGH IT'S GETTING SUCKED DOWN DURING A SLIGHT APPLICATION. ONE MUST BE VERY CAREFUL AND START APPLYING THE BRAKES INCREDIBLY SLOWLY BEFORE THEY WISH TO START STOPPING. THUS, IT'S NOT POSSIBLE TO STOP QUICKLY WITHOUT THE BRAKES BEING HEAVILY APPLIED AGAINST ONE'S WILL. DURING AN EMERGENCY BRAKING SITUATION, WHICH LUCKILY I HAVE NOT COME ACROSS WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, I SUSPECT IT'D BE INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHILE SLOWING DOWN, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT THE VEHICLE HAS ABS. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. UPON RESEARCH ON MANY DIFFERENT WEBSITES, I HAVE FOUND OTHER DRIVERS OF 2004 HONDA ACCORDS THAT COMPLAIN OF THE SAME ISSUE. ONE COMPLAINT EVEN CLAIMED THAT THEY APPLIED THEIR BRAKES NORMALLY ON AN OFFRAMP, AND THE ISSUE CAUSED THEIR VEHICLE TO SPIN AROUND COMPLETELY, LUCKILY NOT STRIKING ANYONE OR ANYTHING. OTHERS SAY THAT THEY HAVE COMPLAINED TO THEIR DEALERSHIPS, BUT WERE JUST TOLD THAT THEY NEED TO GET USED TO THE BRAKES. I FEEL THAT A LIKELY PROBLEM MAY BE AN ISSUE WITH THE POWER BRAKE SYSTEM PROVIDING TOO MUCH ASSIST WITH EVEN LIGHT APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES. I'M NOT SURE WHETHER ANY ACCIDENTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED DUE TO THIS ISSUE, OR IF THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE THE CAUSE OF ANY ACCIDENTS. NEVERTHELESS, IT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, A FEW CARS BEHIND, AND THEN THE TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND THE CARS TOOK OFF. AFTER I JUST PASSED THE INTERSECTION THE FIRST CAR MADE A SUDDEN STOP, AND THE CARS AFTER WERE ABLE TO STOP ALSO. I HAD ENOUGH TIME AND ROOM TO STOP THE CAR ITSELF WITH OUT CRASHING TOO, BUT THE BREAKS DID NOT STOP WHEN MY FOOT WAS PRESSED ALL THE WAY DOWN ON THE PETAL. I WAS NOT GOING MORE THAN FIFTEEN MILE PER HOUR AT THE TIME. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT GO OFF AND THE FRONT WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED AFTER GOING INTO THE OTHER CARS. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN HONDA. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH HE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT SINCE IT WAS SUCH AN UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE CONTACTS ROTORS WERE FAULTY. THE MECHANIC CLIPPED THE ROTORS TO MAKE THEM SMOOTHER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DUE TO THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE THE ROTORS SHOULD HAVE NOT FAILED AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE ROTORS AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO WRITE A LETTER TO CORPORATE EXPLAINING WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.

I WAS COMING DOWN A HILL AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DIDN'T ENGAGE AND I HAD NOT BRAKING CONTROL. MY SPEED WAS LESS THAN 20 MPH. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON FLAT SURFACES AS WELL AS HILLS. *TR
I BOUGHT A NEW HONDA ACCORD LX IN MAY OF 2004. AS THE BRAKES WORE DOWN THEY BEGAN TO HAVE A SURGE TYPE OF PROBLEM AND MAKE A GRINDING NOISE ONCE IN A WHILE. WHEN I REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS I FOUND THAT ONE OF THE PADS WAS CLOSE TO BEING WORN OUT ON ONE SIDE OF THE ROTOR AND THE OTHER WAS LIKE NEW, ON BOTH LEFT AND FRONT ROTORS. AFTER I REPLACED THEM, EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE FINE UNTIL AFTER THEY HAD WORN ABOUT 25,000 MILES. NOW THEY HAVE ABOUT 45,00 MILES ON THEM. NOW THEY ARE DOING IT AGAIN EXCEPT THE SURGE PROBLEM IS MUCH WORSE THIS TIME AND THE STEERING WHEEL WILL SHAKE VIOLENTLY SOMETIMES IF I PUT THE BRAKES ON HARD. SOMETIMES THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE MINOR AND SOMETIMES IT IS REALLY BAD. I ASK THE HONDA PEOPLE ABOUT IT AND THEY WANT MONEY TO PUT IT ON THE RACK TO LOOK AT IT; SOMETHING I DON'T HAVE A LOT OF. I WENT TO HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ON CAR. THE MECHANIC CAME OUT AND TOLD ME MY REAR BRAKES WERE NEARLY WORN OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR HAD 20,959 ACTUAL MILES ON THESE BRAKES. I HAD THEM REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE EVEN THOUGH I FELT THIS WAS HIGHLY UNUSUAL. NOW MY FRONT ROTORS ARE GIVING ME PROBLEMS AT 23,000 MILES. THE CAR JERKS WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I CALLED HONDA.....WAS TOLD THEY HADN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS OR COMPLAINTS, BUT I SEE SAME PROBLEM POSTED ON THIS SITE. *TR

THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. HE FELT THAT THE BYPASS VALVE ON THE ABS MODULATOR CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE DEALER RE-INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND REPLACED THE ABS MODULATOR. APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. AS OF AUGUST 7, 2007, THE DEALER HAS NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,500. UPDATED 01-15-08. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED 2 ABS MODULATORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND 2 MASTER CYLINDERS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE STARTED WITH A SOFT BRAKE PEDAL AND OVER TIME IT BECAME WORSE. WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE WOULD PULL HARD TO ONE SIDE AND/OR THE ABS MODULATOR WOULD ACTIVATE WHEN BRAKING POWER WAS ESTABLISHED. UPDATED 12/12/07

THE DEALER TURNED THE ROTORS AND THE VIBRATIONS WERE ALMOST COMPLETELY GONE. THE CONTACT SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT IN JULY OF 2007 WITH THE REGIONAL CASE MANAGER FOR HONDA. HE BELIEVED THAT THE ROTORS SHOW A PATTERN OF FAILURE EVERY 20,000 MILES. THE FAILURE WAS NOTICED EACH TIME HE EXITED A HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. REAR BRAKES WORE OUT AT 29,000 MILES. PISTONS STICKING, CALIPERS RECONDITIONED, NEED NEW HARDWARE, NEW ROTORS, NEW BRAKE PADS. HONDA MAINTAINS THAT THE CAR IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED AND THESE ARE NORMAL ITEMS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED AT 29,000 MILES. *JB
WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC, MAINLY AT A STAND STILL, THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL REACH THE BOTTOM STOP AND NOT PUSH ANYMORE. THE CAR HAS NOT YET EVER FAILED TO STOP. NORMAL BRAKING REQUIRES NO EFFORT WHATSOEVER AND THERE IS NO RESISTANCE FELT. THE PEDAL WILL NORMALLY FALL TO BELOW THAT OF THE ACCELERATOR AND ON A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR, IT MAKES HEEL/TOE DRIVING IMPOSSIBLE. I HAVE HAD THE ROTORS BOTH FRONT AND REAR WARP. THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN BLED TWICE NOW, WHICH RESULTS IN A SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT IN PEDAL FEEL FOR A SHORT DURATION. WHEN THE PEDAL DROPPED TO THE STOP, I CALLED AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALER. THEY STATED THAT OPERATION IS NORMAL AT THIS TIME, EVEN WHEN I REQUESTED THEY DRIVE ANOTHER CAR BACK TO BACK WITH MINE, AS I DID. THIS IS HOW I KNOW THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG, AS THE OTHER TWO CARS I'VE DRIVEN RECENTLY HAVE A MUCH HIGHER AND FIRMER FEELING PEDAL THAN MY CAR. I HAVE HEARD OF SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER HONDA OWNERS, AND IF THE HONDA TECHLINE IS CALLED, THERE IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE ABS/TCS UNIT BYPASSING PRESSURE CAUSING THE LOW, ODD FEELING PEDAL. *NM

THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THIS WAS NORMAL AND RECOMMENDED THE CONTACT DOWN SHIFT WHEN COMING DOWN A STEEP INCLINE AND ALLOW THE VEHICLE ROLL OFF OF THE HILL INSTEAD OF USING THE BRAKES. REAR DISC BRAKE PADS ON 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX WORE DOWN QUICKLY AND UNEVENLY, WITHIN 30,000 MILES. REPLACEMENT WAS AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. SUCH SHORT BRAKE LIFE IS INDICATIVE OF A DEFECTIVELY OR INADEQUATELY DESIGNED REAR DISC BRAKE SYSTEM AND COULD POTENTIALLY BE A SAFETY ISSUE. SEARCHED THE WEB AND FOUND THAT RAPID REAR DISC BRAKE WEAR IS COMMON ON LATE-MODEL HONDA ACCORDS. THIS COMPLAINT IS BEING ENTERED ON BEHALF OF MY ROOMMATE, WHO IS THE PURCHASER/OWNER/DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE ROTORS WERE TURNED THREE TIMES DURING THE FIRST 17,000 MILES OF OWNERSHIP. AT 17,000 MILES THE FRONT ROTORS WERE REPLACED AND REAR ROTORS WERE TURNED. THE PROBLEM RETURNED, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER TODAY FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT WAS DETERMINED THE ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 : WHEN BRAKING FROM 50+ MPH ESPECIALLY DOWNHILL CAUSES THE WHOLE CAR TO SHUDDER. THE CAR HAS 14000 MILES ON IT. DEALER SAYS THE ROTORS ARE WARPED AND IT IS MY DRIVING PATTERN. I HAD OTHER HONDA'S WHICH NEVER HAD TO HAVE THEIR ROTORS REPLACED UNTIL 100K MILES AT LEAST. THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR DEFECTIVE BRAKE PAD MATERIAL FOR 2003'S ACCORDS BUT A LOT OF 2004/2005 OWNERS ARE COMPLAINING ON THE MESSAGE BOARDS (EDMUNDS.COM) AS WELL. 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX W/24,000 MILES AND IN SERVICE ONE YEAR. EXCESSIVE NOISE (SQUEALING) COMING FROM FRONT AND REAR BRAKES. FRONT PADS HAD MINIMAL WEAR BUT THERE WAS A CRACK DOWN THE CENTER OF EACH FRONT PAD (FOUR IN ALL) SERVICE MANAGER SAYS THIS IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR AND THE CRACKS WERE PROBABLY CAUSED BY HEAT (A CRACK IN THE PAD IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR BUT A PROBLEM). AS FOR THE REAR BRAKES, THE REAR PADS WERE WORN COMPLETELY DOWN NOT EQUAL TO THE FRONT PADS AND BY ALL ACCOUNTS SHOULD HAVE HAD LESS WEAR THAN THE FRONT PADS BECAUSE IT IS THE FRONT BRAKES THAT WORK THE HARDEST. *JB
WAS ATTEMPTING TO EXPLAIN TO MY SON HOW TO STOP MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD BY PULLING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, WHILE THE CAR WAS MOVING IN CRUISE CONTROL. THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT DISCONNECT. PULLING ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ONLY MAKES THE CRUISE CONTROL INCREASE THE SPEED OF THE ENGINE. *JB
WHILE I WAS TAKING AN EXIT OF THE HIGHWAY (TRAVELING ABOUT 30-35 MPH), GRADUALLY APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES ALL OF THE SUDDEN WERE LOCKED UP AND THE CAR WAS OUT OF CONTROL. IT SPUN AROUND, STEERING WAS LOCKED AND ENGINE WAS CUT OFF. FORTUNATELY, THERE WE'RE NO CARS BEHIND ME AND DAMAGE WAS MINIMAL. ONLY THE REAR BUMPER WAS HIT BY THE GUARD RAIL ON THE RAMP. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE HONDA SERVICE CENTER. THEY DID NOT FIND ANY FAULT IN THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, I HAVE NOTICED ONE THING AFTER I GOT THE VEHICLE BACK FROM THE SHOP - FUEL EFFICIENCY WENT UP. WHEN I PURCHASE THE VEHICLE, IT WAS AVERAGING ABOUT 32-33 MPG. BUT IN PASS THREE TO FOUR MONTHS THE AVERAGE AS ABOUT 28 MPG. INITIALLY THOUGH WAS THAT FUEL EFFICIENCY WAS LOW BECAUSE OF WARM WEATHER AND A/C TURNED ON. INTERESTINGLY, THE FUEL EFFICIENCY WENT UP TO 32-33 MPG AFTER I GOT THE VEHICLE BACK FROM THE SHOP. THE A/C'S ON AND THE DRIVING ENVIRONMENT HAVE NOT CHANGE. FUEL EFFICIENCY HAS BEEN CONSISTENCE FOR LASER FEW FILL-UPS. *JB
A GRINDING AND SHAKING WHEN BRAKING, WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT I MUST NOT BE USED TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM THE ROADS WERE COMPLETELY DRY AND NO REASON FOR THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES TO COME ON, I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP AGAIN , THEY PROCEEDED TO TELL ME IT JUST NEEDED A MINOR ADJUSTMENT AND IT WAS ALL SET. BACK A 3RD TIME , THEY REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES AND REALIGNED , TO WHICH I RECIEVED THE CAR AGAIN UNFIXED . SERVICE MANAGER WAS VERY ARGUEMENTIVE AND RUDE AND TOLD US THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH OUR VECHICLE AND IF WE HAD A PROBLEM FROM HERE WE WOULD NEED TO SPEAK THE HONDA MOTOR CORP. SERVICE MANAGER . HE INDICATED THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM THAT HONDA IS SEEING IN THE ACCORDS IN STATES WHERE THE CLIMATES ARE VARIED AND COLD, ALSO HE SAID HE WOULD ROLL UP HIS SLEEVES AND GET IT FIXED FOR US. AFTER 13 DAYS IN THE REPAIR SHOP AND NEW BRAKES,TIRES,RIMS AND SOME OTHER MINOR COMPONETS OUR CAR WAS RETURNED TO US WITH THE ORIGINAL SERVICE PERSON HAVING A TOTALLY DIFFERENT TONE TO HIS VOICE AND HE ALSO SAID HE WAS NOT SURE IF THEY FIXED IT ! WELL, GUESS WHAT THEY DID NOT !!!!!!!! MY CAR IS JUST OVER A YEAR OLD AND THEY WANT ME TO FIX IT YET AGAIN AND I FEEL LIKE THEY SHOULD GIVE US A NEW VEHICLE OR BUY US OUT OF THIS ONE AND THEY SAID NO THAT THEY ONLY OBLIGATION IS TO KEEP FIXING IT AND THAT WAS FROM THE DEALER AND THE HONDA CONSUMER RELATIONS DEPARTMENT ALSO. THE RELATIONS DEPARTMENT OFFERED TO HAVE A DIFFERENT DEALER WORK ON IT BUT I JUST FEEL LIKE THIS CAR IS A LEMON. IN MY OWN INVESTIGATIVE WORK WITH A FEW PEOPLE I KNOW WHO HAVE THE SAME VEHICLE AS ME (3 PEOPLE) 1 HAS HAD THE EXACT PROBLEM (DIFFERENT DEALER), 1 HAS HAD NO BRAKE PROBLEMS AND 1 HAS HAD BRAKE PROBLEMS BUT NOT EXACTLY LIKE OURS. IN ADDITION WHEN TALKING WITH THE HONDA MOTOR CORP. CONSUMER RELATIONS IT TOOK WEEKS FOR THEM TO CONTACT ME AND WHEN I FINALLY DID TALK TO THEM THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE IT FIXED 1 MORE TIME BUT COULD NOT GUARANTEEE ME THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE FIXED.
PROBLEM WITH EXCESSIVE BRAKE GRABBING SINCE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE ON 05/29/2004. DISCUSSED WITH TAMERON HONDA SERVICE MANY TIMES SINCE PURCHASE AND IT SEEMS EVERONE (SALES AND SERVICE) KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM, BUT HONDA HAS NOT DONE SOMETHING TO CORRECT THE POTENTIALLY DEADLY PROBLEM.
THE 2004 HONDA ACCORD I LEASED BRAKES ARE TOO SENSATIVE. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER AND HONDA CORPORATE, THEY HAVE HAD NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS BUT TELL ME IT'S THE WAY THE CAR WAS DESIGNED. IN MY OPINION, IT'S A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, AS THE CAR JERKS TO A STOP THE MOMENT THE BRAKES ARE TOUCHED. THIS MORNING AGAIN, THE DEALER TOLD ME I SIMPLY NEED TO GET USED TO THE BRAKES. WE HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR ALMOST 10 MONTHS NOW AND WE ARE NOT USED TO IT YET.
ON MARCH 18, 2005, I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 ON I 680 WHEN MY TCS AND ABS LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. I GOT SCARED AND RELEASED THE ACCELERATOR BUT SINCE THE EXIT I NEEDED WAS APPROACHING, I SLIGHTLY DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. IMMEDIATELY THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED OUT OF CONTROL AND I SLAMMED INTO THE RIGHT GUARDRAIL EXTREMELY HARD, CAUSING ALL DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY AND I CONTINUED SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL AND THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS NOT STOPPING AS IT CROSSED TWO LANES AND CONTINUED DRIVING ONTO THE MEDIAN, EVENTUALLY STOPPING AS IT HIT AND RODE UP ON THE GUARDRAIL ON THE MEDIAN. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKING PRESENT IN THE CAR. THE CAR WAS DEEMED TOTALLED BY INSURANCE. HONDA WAS CALLED BUT TODD (SVC REP) SAID THAT "WE DONT LIKE TO HEAR THAT ABOUT OUR CARS."
REAR BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT AT 14,000 MILES. SERVICE INDICATES 2 MILIMETERS LEFT ON REAR PADS. DESPITE SERVICE STATING 60% OF BRAKING IS DONE BY FRONT BRAKES THE REAR NEED REPLACING. ADDITIONALLY, DRIVING HABITS ALSO CONTRIBUTED TO THIS. I OWN OTHER HONDA'S AND VEHICLES WHERE MY HABITS ARE THE SAME AND DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. PADS WERE REPLACED ON REAR.*AK

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN DEPRESSED. WHEN THIS OCCURRED THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ON 2/17/04, I WAS TURNING LEFT TO GET OUT OF A PARKING LOT. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP, I HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE AND THEN IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING FELL OFF OF THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP SAID NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND, THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE. 263 MILES ON IT. ON 5/21/04 I WAS DRIVING DOWN A MAIN ROAD AND I NOTICED A LOT OF RED BRAKE LIGHTS IN FRONT OF ME, I HUNG BACK ABOUT FOUR CAR LENGTHS, AND AS I GOT TO ABOUT THREE CAR LENGTHS I KNEW I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO STOP SO I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP, I LITERALLY HAD TO STAND ON THE BRAKE PETAL WITH TWO FEET, AND PULLED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AT THE SAME TIME, THE CAR KEPT ON MOVING FORWARD, THE CAR MADE A VERY LOUD GRINDING NOISE; AND FINALLY THE CAR STOPPED INCHES AWAY FROM THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I INCHED THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID TO GET THE CAR RIGHT DOWN TO THE DEALERSHIP. I DROVE THERE ABOUT 10 MILES AN HOUR WITH MY 4 WAY FLASHERS ON ALL THE WAY. THEY SUPPOSEDLY ROAD TESTED THE CAR FOR BRAKE NOISE AND CHECKED LINING, THEY SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE, THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM. I WAS VERY NERVOUS BUT HAD TO GO TO THE DOCTORS, SO I CAREFULLY DROVE THE CAR DOWN THE SAME ROAD AND HAD TO STOP AGAIN, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE NOISE AND NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP HAPPENED AGAIN, I SWERVED TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. MILEAGE 1721 MILES. I STOPPED THE CAR AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN, THEY TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR BACK, MILEAGE 1741 MILES, ANOTHER TRIP WITH THE FLASHERS ON AT 10 MILES AN HOUR, THEY PROVIDED ME WITH A RENTAL CAR, MY CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALERSHIP, SOME AREA REPRESENTATIVE IS SUPPOSED TO CONTACT ME, I CALLED TODAY 5/26/04 AND THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE ANY ANSWERS. APPARENTLY, THE BATTERY WAS NOT INSTALLED PROPERLY AND ALL CABLES SURROUNDING THE BATTERY WAS LOOSE AND THE HEADLAMP COVER WAS LOOSE ALSO. THERE IS CLUNK NOISE WHEN YOU INITIALLY PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THIS IS NORMAL NOISE. THERE IS A METALLIC RUB WHEN DEPRESSING ON THE BRAKE AND THERE IS LOUD BRAKE NOISE ALSO. DEALER SAID THIS WAS NORMAL ALSO, BUT I'M NOT SO SURE OF THIS. *LA
