SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2006-2010 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr and MKZ vehicles. The valves within the ABS Hydraulic Control Units (HCU) may react with brake fluids containing specific corrosion preventative additives. This reaction may cause the valves to not close properly.
Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 fluid and install a new brake fluid reservoir cap. In addition, the HCU will be tested to detect a possible stuck valve condition, replacing the HCU as necessary. All services will be performed free of charge. The recall began April 1, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S54.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 19V904000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and 21V158000 (Air Bags) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal went to the floorboard while depressed, and then the vehicle lost motive power with the brake fluid message displayed. Additionally, brake fluid leaked onto the engine and there was smoke coming from underneath the hood. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact owns a 2007 Ford Fusion. The contact received notification of Customer Satisfaction Program Number: 21N11 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the brake pedal went to the floorboard while depressed. The contact had to apply force to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that new brake hoses needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000.
In January of 2020 and again in October of 2020, I received recall notices regarding the recall of the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) per the 19S54 / 19V-904 recall notice. Once the part was available, I scheduled the work and brought my Fusion to DCH Ford of Eatontown 764. The dealership looked at the HCU and said it was not affected and not in need of replacement. Days later, I tried to drive my car and had no braking capability, save the emergency hand brake. The Fusion was towed to the dealer and it was determined that the HCU failed. It was months before an HCU was available, so the car sat with the dealer until August 2021. I have the repair records showing the part that was replaced is the 2C215 HCU Module, the exact part that is outlined in the recall notice. Ford will not consider the repair under the recall because the recall closed when the vehicle was inspected in April. Despite many emails and telephone calls, Ford is now not responding to any contact and will not consider the repair bill under the recall notification.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WILLOWBROOK FORD (7301 KINGERY HWY, WILLOWBROOK, IL 60527, (630) 986-5000) AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNITS (HECU) DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED AT THAT TIME. THE CONTACT STATED SHE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME BRAKE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK HAWK FORD OF OAK LAWN AND FAILED THE INSPECTION. THE CONTACT WAS THEN INFORMED THAT THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HECU) NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. I RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 19S54 / NHTSA RECALL 10V-904 IN JANUARY 2020 TELLING ME THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON MY CAR. IT SAID I WOULD BE NOTIFIED WHEN PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE. I GOT ANOTHER NOTICE IN OCTOBER OF 2020 TELLING ME THE SAME THING, BUT HAVE STILL NOT HEARD BACK. IT HAS BEEN OVER A YEAR AND NO WORD FROM FORD. IF THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THEY ARE NOT TAKING IT VERY SERIOUSLY. IT CANNOT TAKE OVER A YEAR TO GET PARTS. I AM GIVING THIS CAR TO MY GRAND DAUGHTER BUT DO NOT WANT TO DO SO IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES.

THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED IN 2011WITH 68,000 MILES AT TIME OF PURCHASE. IT WAS PURCHASED AT TOM MOSANOS IN BERKS COUNTY, PA . IT WAS PAID OFF AT THE END OF 2017, THEN NOW ALL THE RECALLS 4 OR 5 DIFFERENT RECALLS AND SERIOUS RECALLS . I HAVE ABSOLUTLEY NO BRAKES ALL WAS TO THE FLOOR WITH NO PRESSURE AT ALL . TO MANY BECAUSE AND I DO BELIEVE THAT SINCE IT WAS PAID OFF AT THE END OF 2017 . THAT I SHOULD BE OFFERED FOR THEM TO ME TO PICK OUT AND THEM TO REPLACE ME ANOTHER CAR FOR UP TO $10,00, AND THAT TOM MASANO GETS A REBATE IN THE AMOUNT OF 10.000 OR MORE , I NEED A SAFE CAR TO DRIVE WITH LESS SAFETY RECALLS AS THIS CAR HAS MAJOR SAFETY RECALLS ON IT.
FORD HAS FAILED TO PROVIDE A TIMELY REPAIR FOR MY VEHICLE ON A POSTED RECALL. THEY HAVE TAKEN OVER A YEAR AND STILL CLAIM THEY DO NOT HAVE A REMEDY FOR THIS RECALL. IT IS NHTSA RECALL #19V904. I NOTICED A WARNING ON MY DASH THE BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS). I THEN SEARCHED FOR ANY RECALLS REGARDING THE AREA, WHICH LED ME TO THE NHTSA WEBSITE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION UPON NOTICING THE TROUBLE.

I REPORTED AN ISSUE RELATING TO THE ABS IN MY 2007 FORD FUSION ON 11/24/18, BUT JUST REALIZED I HAD USED MY TILE NUMBER INSTEAD OF VIN. PERHAPS THAT'S WHY I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE? I HAVE ATTACHED A COPY OF MY PREVIOUS COMPLAINT. I AM WONDERING IF MY VEHICLE IS OR WILL BE A PART OF THE RECALL FOR ABS VALVE BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YEARS FOR THIS ISSUE TO BE RESOLVED SO THAT I CAN GET THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AND GET RID OF IT.
I'VE HAD CONSTANT BRAKE ISSUES SINCE I GOT THE VEHICLE. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THE RECENT FORD BRAKE RECALL IS MORE WIDESPREAD THAN IS CURRENTLY BELIEVED AS I HAVE THE EXACT ISSUES DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL BUT MY VEHICLE IS SUPPOSEDLY NOT AFFECTED. I FEAR FOR MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF OTHER FORD OWNERS WHO MIGHT BE AFFECTED BY THIS SIGNIFICANT BRAKE ISSUE.
BRAKE PEDAL GOES HALFWAY TO FLOOR AFTER STARTING ENGINE. BOTH THE BRAKE PEDAL AND GAS PEDAL BECOME EQUAL IN DISTANCE FROM THE FLOOR OF THE CAR MAKING IT VERY EASY TO BE HITTING THE GAS AND BRAKES AT THE SAME TIME.
IN DECEMBER OF 2018 THE VEHICLE HIT A ROUGH SURFACE OF ROAD AS I WAS STOPPING NEAR AN INTERSECTION. THE BRAKE PEDAL IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I WENT INTO THE INTERSECTION. THANKFULLY THERE WERE NO CARS PASSING THROUGH. JUST AFTER THE INCIDENT THE BRAKES FIRMED UP AND WORKED AS NORMAL. CAR WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND NO ISSUES WERE FOUND. I ASKED ABOUT TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS AND WAS TOLD THERE WERE NONE. DEALERSHIP THOUGHT THE ISSUE WAS A BRIEF LOSS OF VACUUM IN THE BOOSTER. TOLD TO KEEP DRIVING THE VEHICLE, AND IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN THEY WILL REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER. NOW ON 10/9/19 IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. VEHICLE WENT OVER A BUMP AND THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR. LOOKING ONLINE, I QUICKLY FOUND A YOUTUBE VIDEO BACK IN 2014 WITH A FULL EXPLANATION ON HOW THE HCU IS MALFUNCTIONING ON SOME OF THESE CARS. AFTER THE ABS EVENT IS OVER, THE ABS VALVE IS STICKING AND NOT RECLOSING RESULTING IN THE SOFT PEDAL. YET NOT LONG AFTER, THE PEDAL FIRMS UP AND THE BRAKES WORK AS NORMAL. IT LOOKS LIKE THERE ARE QUITE A FEW PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THIS. PLEASE LOOK INTO AT LEAST HAVING A TSB PUT OUT. I WOULD HAVE REPLACED IT LAST DECEMBER IF I HAD KNOWN, AS THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THIS TIME AND I'M JUST THANKFUL SHE WAS IN A SITUATION WHERE SHE HAD ENOUGH ROOM TO STOP. PLEASE, PLEASE ISSUE THE TSB NOW. THE CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED AS IT'S UNSAFE, BUT AT LEAST A TSB GIVES THE OWNER/DEALER THE INFORMATION NEEDED TO GET THE CAR FIXED. HAVE RECORD OF VISIT TO DEALERSHIP IN 2018 IF NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE REAR BRAKE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. WHEN DRIVING SLOWLY (15-25 MPH) OVER A ROUGH STRETCH OF RAILROAD TRACKS IN THE CITY, I APPLIED MY BRAKES ONLY FOR THE PEDAL TO HIT THE FLOOR TO HEAR A GRINDING SOUND WHEN I HIT THE BUMP. I HAD NO ABILITY TO STOP MY CAR FOR 10-20 FEET UNTIL I PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL ENOUGH TO REGAIN PRESSURE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE LAST 4 MONTHS AND FOUR TIMES IN THE LAST 3 YEARS. THE PEDAL EVENTUALLY REGAINS PRESSURE, BUT NEVER HOLDS FIRM WHEN BRAKING OVER A BUMP. THIS HAS ALSO OCCURRED WHILE TURNING AND APPLYING THE BRAKE SIMULTANEOUSLY.
I OWN A 2007 FORD FUSION WITH 122,000 MILES. ABOUT A MONTH AGO I HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE HAPPENED DURING A 'PANIC' STOP WHEN I WAS CUT OFF IN TRAFFIC. THE ABS ACTIVATED, THEN THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELING MUCH FURTHER DOWN THAN NORMAL. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE BRANDON FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN FLORIDA. I WAS ADVISED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY HYDRAULIC BRAKE CONTROLLER, WHICH IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE THROUGH FORD AS THE PART HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED. THERE ARE ALSO NO AFTERMARKET COMPANIES THAT MANUFACTURER THIS PART. THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO FIND A REPLACEMENT FROM A SALVAGE YARD, EBAY OR SIMILAR PLACE. NOT LONG AFTER THIS SERVICE VISIT, THE BRAKE PEDAL MIRACULOUSLY RETURNED TO NORMAL PRESSURE. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NEARLY 300-TROUBLE FREE MILES BEFORE IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME IT WAS RAINING AND AS I WAS SLOWING AGAIN, I MUST HAVE HIT A BUMP OR SLIPPERY SURFACE CAUSING THE ABS TO KICK IN AGAIN. THIS IMMEDIATELY CAUSED THE PEDAL TO GO TO THE FLOOR AGAIN. AS OF LAST NIGHT, THE PEDAL PRESSURE IS STILL LOW AND IT HAS NOT RETURNED TO NORMAL. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT HAVE A SOLUTION. I CANT BELIEVE THAT FORD HAS NOT COME UP WITH A 'FIX', OR A RE-ENGINEERED REPLACEMENT PART. CAN YOU IMAGINE SOMETHING AS IMPORTANT AS THE BRAKING SYSTEM BEING COMPROMISED WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WAY TO REPAIR IT. I REALLY HOPE FORD STANDS BEHIND THEIR VEHICLES, DOES RIGHT BY THEIR CUSTOMERS AND COMES UP WITH A SOLUTION.

MY FATHER TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL LICENSED MECHANIC FOR A ROUTINE BRAKES SERVICE. THE BRAKE PADS AND BRAKE FLUID WERE REPLACED BUT THE SOFT BRAKE PEDAL AND POOR BRAKING STILL PERSISTED. THE MECHANIC DID RESEARCH ON THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT OUR ISSUE IS CONSISTENT TO A KNOWN ISSUE IN THE 2007 FORD FUSION ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM (ABS) HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) BRAKES SYSTEM. MY FATHER SAID THE BRAKE ISSUES OCCURRED AFTER THE ABS CAME ON AFTER BRAKING ON AN UN-EVEN SURFACE. THE MECHANIC SAID HE DOES NOT HAVE THE EXPERTISE TO PERFORM THE TASKS AND RECOMMEND US TO FILE A COMPLAINT.
DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL HILLY AREA, I DROVE OVER A SMALL BUMP HEADING TOWARDS A RED LIGHT. MY BREAKS IMMEDIATELY WENT SOFT AND TOOK EXCESSIVE FORCE TO GET THE CAR TO STOP WITH THE BREAK PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. WE WENT ABOUT 15 FEET BEFORE WE WERE ABLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. BREAKS ARE NOW SOFT AND UNABLE TO DRIVE WITHOUT EXCESSIVE FORCE ON THE BREAKS. *TR*JB

TRIED TO STOP BUT THE BRAKE PELAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESISTANCE AND ZERO BRAKING. THESE BRAKES ARE FAULTY. IF THE BRAKES WERE WORKING CORRECTLY NEITHER INCIDENT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. THESE CARS ARE POTENTIAL DEATH TRAPS. THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORTS MADE BECAUSE THEY WERE NO REQUIRED. BUT NOW THE INSURANCE CO. MIGHT BE TOTALLING THE CAR...SO WE ARE OUT THE VALUE OF THIS BECAUSE OF A BAD DESIGN BY FORD. WHY SHOULD WE BE OUT THIS ? PERHAPS ITS A BLESSING IN DISGUISE. I HAVE NOTICED A LOT OF OTHER COMPLAINTS AND YOU ARE INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED BEFORE WITH NO INCIDENTS. ONCE WHILE COMING UP TO A STOP SIGN. TRIED TO STOP AND WENT RIGHT THROUGH A INTERSECTION WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 55 MPH. IF THERE HAD BEEN A CAR COMING THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A POTENTIAL FOR SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. BRAKES ARE EXTREMELY SPONGY STARTED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO WITH A COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE THAT I HAD TO VEER TO THE RIGHT AND HIT A CURB SO THAT I WOULDN'T HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. TOOK A HUGE CHUNK OUT OF MY RIM. I HAD 2 OF MY GRANDDAUGHTERS IN THE CAR WITH ME ON THAT PARTICULAR DAY AND WE WERE ALL TERRIFIED. AFTER THAT THEY STARTED WORKING FINE AGAIN AND NOW FOR THE PAST YEAR THEY HAVE BEEN SPONGY AND WE HAVE REPLACED EVERY PART OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM WITH NO CHANGE, THE BRAKES CONTINUE TO BE SPONGY. THIS HAS COST MY HUSBAND AND I A LOT OF MONEY, HEADACHE AND TIME. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR NOW NOT KNOWING IF IT COULD COMPLETELY FAIL AT ANY MOMENT. DRIVING TO PHOENIX FROM TUCSON ON I-10 AT APPROXIMATELY 65MPH, TRAFFIC AHEAD CAME TO A STOP. THERE WAS A LOT OF DISTANCE BETWEEN THE CAR AHEAD AND OURSELVES, BUT WHEN WE HIT THE BRAKES ABRUPTLY, THE BRAKES APPLIED THEN FAILED WITH PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR. RELEASED THE PEDAL AND REAPPLIED AGAIN AND THE BRAKES AGAIN STARTED TO SLOW THE CAR THEN AGAIN FAILED AND RELEASED. WE HAD NO PATH TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO AVOID IMPACT BECAUSE OTHER VEHICLES HAD PULLED TO THE SIDE, OR WERE IN THE OTHER LANE. WE IMPACTED THE VEHICLE STOPPED IN TRAFFIC AHEAD OF US WITH MINIMAL BRAKES. THE AZ DPS AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY WERE INFORMED OF THE FAILURE OF BRAKES, BUT A TICKET WAS STILL ISSUED. TO MY KNOWLEDGE THE VEHICLE BRAKES OR COMPUTER HAS YET TO BE CHECKED AS THE FUSION WAS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS; THIS VEHICLE HAD ONLY 65,000 MILES ON IT, AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THERE WERE THREE OF US IN THE FUSION AND THE AIRBAGS WORKED FLAWLESSLY, WE ALL WALKED AWAY. ALL OCCUPANTS OF THE OTHER VEHICLES WERE WELL AND WALKING AROUND FOR TWO HOURS UNTIL ONE WAS TALKED INTO AN AMBULANCE RIDE BY A PARAMEDIC TECH.

ANOTHER TIME, COMING UP TO A LIGHT WHEN IT TURNED YELLOW, I BRAKED, THE ABS KICKED IN, AND INSTANTLY MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN. THIS WAS ON DRY PAVEMENT. I COULD NOT STOP. I MADE A RIGHT TURN JUST AS THE LIGHT TURNED RED. THE BRAKES REMAINED "SPONGY," BUT THEY CAME BACK SHORTLY AFTER THE INCIDENT. THIS LAST EXAMPLE HAS HAPPENED AT THE SAME INTERSECTION TWICE. THE LIGHT TURNS YELLOW, I BRAKE, THE ABS KICKS IN, MY BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. THIS LAST TIME, I DROVE BACK TO THE INTERSECTION AND NOTED THAT THERE IS A DROP OR CONSIDERABLE BUMP ALONG A PAVEMENT SEAM JUST AS YOU COME UP TO THE LIGHT. ENOUGH OF A DROP THAT YOU CAN FEEL IT IN YOUR CAR AS YOU DRIVE OVER IT. BOTH OF THESE TIMES AT THE STOP LIGHT I WAS UNABLE TO STOP BEFORE THE INTERSECTION. I HAD TO PROCEED THROUGH MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN ON A RED LIGHT. I WAS NOT OVER-DRIVING OR SPEEDING, I WAS UNABLE TO STOP BECAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD GONE SOFT. THIS LAST TIME I TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN TOWN AND THEY VERIFIED THAT THE HCU TESTED BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM ON THE CAR IS DEFECTIVE AND ESSENTIALLY HAS MADE THE CAR UNUSABLE. THE ABS MODULE IS APPARENTLY NO LONGER SOLD AND ONLY AVAILABLE FROM A SALVAGE YARD. I HAVE BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND EVEN WITH TWO SEPARATE ABS MODULES REPLACED THE BRAKES STILL DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. THEY HAVE NO PROPER REPAIR AVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR IN THE CITY AND CAME TO A CURVED LANE. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN SO THAT I COULD MAKE A SLIGHT TURN BUT DON'T REMEMBER THE CAR SLOWING DOWN. I THEN TRIED TO STIR THE WHEEL SO THAT I WOULD NOT CRASH. AT THIS POINT, I MIGHT HAVE OVER CORRECTED THE STIRRING WHEEL LEADING THE CAR TO SLID AS THE ROAD WAS WET. I ENDED UP HITTING A POLE.
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP MY 2007 FORD FUSION THE BRAKES WOULD LOSE FUNCTIONALITY IN VARYING DEGREES. SOMETIMES THE PEDAL WOULD GET SOFT BUT I WOULD BE ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BY PRESSING HARDER AND OTHER-TIMES THE BRAKES WOULD FAIL TO WORK ALL TOGETHER. WHEN THE BRAKES WOULD FAIL THEY WOULD REGAIN FUNCTIONALLY AFTER ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES. WHEN I INSPECTED THE BRAKE SYSTEM THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF LEAKING BRAKE FLUID OR BREAK/ROTOR WEAR. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE SHOP THE MECHANIC ASSURED ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY ABS BRAKING SYSTEM. THE FAULTY BRAKES IN MY FORD FUSION EVENTUALLY FAILED COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH ON HIGHWAY I-195 WHEN TRAFFIC CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP. I SUFFERED A LIFE CHANGING CONCUSSION IN THE RESULTING ACCIDENT AS WELL AS LOSING MY CAR AND JOB. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS A FAULTY MASTER CYLINDER AS NO BRAKE FLUID IS LOST FROM THE SYSTEM. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS ISSUE THERE ARE STILL 2007 FORD FUSIONS ON THE ROAD TODAY THAT WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE MORE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS.
ANY TIME THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGES, BREAK PRESSURE IS LOST FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME, RESULTING IN LONGER STOPPING DISTANCES. I HAVE NOT YET BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS BUT FEEL IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME. IT FIRST OCCURRED LAST YEAR AROUND THIS TIME WHEN MY CAR WAS AROUND 116000 MILES. IT HAS OCCURRED 2 MORE TIMES SINCE THEN INCLUDING TODAY. THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED IN AUGUST 2018 WITH NO CHANGE IN THE PROBLEM. AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH AND RULING OUT OTHER POSSIBILITIES, I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS DUE TO THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. I KNOW THERE IS RESEARCH INTO THIS ALREADY, SO I AM ADDING MY CAR TO THE LIST OF AFFECTED VEHICLES TO ENSURE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.
BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR, AND IS UNDRIVABLE DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS WITH THIS VEHICLE, WE HAVE SPENT SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS, NUMEROUS PARTS FOR THE ABS BRAKES AND OIL LEAKS CONTINUALLY COMING FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER. PROBLEM NEVER FIXED, SEVERAL MECHANICS COULD NOT FIGURE OUT AFTER REPLACING EVERYTHING WITH THE BRAKE LINE AND STILL BRAKE GOES TO THE FLOOR. BRAKES BLED NUMEROUS TIMES AND NOTHING IS DIFFERENT, REPLACED SEVERAL PARTS AND NO IMPROVEMENT (HCU, BRAKE BOOSTER, MASTER CYLINDER, BOTH REAR BRAKE CALIPERS). PROBLEMS STILL PERSIST. VERY UPSET, THIS CAR IS MAKING US BROKE AND STILL NO RECALL!!?? SAME PROBLEM EVERY DAY WITH THE CAR, UNABLE TO SAFELY DRIVE IT, FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW, NOT JUST A SPECIFIC DATE, BUT MONTHS-LONG PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR, WE HAVE A CHILD WITH AUTISM WHO NEEDS TO GET TO APPOINTMENTS AND UNABLE TO DRIVE HIM IN THIS UNSAFE CAR. ALSO AIRBAG IS A SAFETY HAZARD, WAS OFFICIALLY RECALLED, BUT NO FIX PROVIDED ITS BEEN OVER 2 YEARS SINCE WE WERE NOTIFIED. THESE ARE SERIOUS SAFETY RISKS.

THE BRAKES HAVE WORKED FINE SINCE THAN. CHECKING VARIOUS VEHICLE COMPLAINT SITES INDICATE THE TROUBLE IS VERY LIKELY THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL MODULE. I BELIEVE THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM.

THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE RECENT FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS MODULE WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MODULE WAS REPLACED AND THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. ABS BRAKE FAILURE. THIS IS A FOLLOW UP TO MY PREVIOUS REPORT. FORD DOES NOT HAVE A NEW HCU MODULE AVAILABLE TO CORRECT THIS MALFUNCTION. I HAD TO PAY THE LABOR FOR THREE USED MODULES TO BE INSTALLED BEFORE THE ABS SYSTEM WORKED PROPERLY. FORD DEALERS CONTINUE TO SELL 2007 TO 2009 FUSION AND MILANS WITH THIS POTENTIAL DANGEROUS PROBLEM.
THE BRAKES WENT SOFT WHILE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT AND I COULD NOT STOP. IT FELT LIKE THEY 'BLEW OUT' AND THEY MADE A LOW PITCH SCRATCHING NOISE. THE LIGHT THEN TURNED GREEN, PREVENTING AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A DESIGN-FLAW ON FORD'S PART, AND NOT A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ISSUE.
AFTER THE ABS ENGAGED ON THE CAR ON SOME ICE (GOING APPROXIMATELY 20MPH) THE BRAKE PEDAL SANK NEARLY TO THE FLOOR. NOW I HAVE NO ABS AND THE PEDAL SINKS TO ABOUT 2 INCHES ABOVE THE FLOOR BEFORE BRAKING STARTS. I HAVE HAD THE LINES AND MASTER CYLINDER LOOKED AT AND THEY WERE FINE. THE DEALER BELIEVES IT IS THE ABS PUMP THAT HAS A STUCK VALVE. APPARENTLY THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON AND NEEDS TO BE A RECALL NOT JUST AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR BILL FOR SOMETHING THAT COULD KILL PEOPLE.
DRIVING ON SLIPPERY WINTER NORTHERN ILLINOIS ROAD, STEPPED ON BRAKES WHEN APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT. ABS KICKED IN (SEEMED TO BE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL), THEN BRAKE PETAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND COULD NOT STOP, ALMOST HIT THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. BRAKE PETAL REMAINED VERY SOFT AND EASILY WENT TO THE FLOOR BOARD FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. AFTER THAT, IT WENT BACK TO NORMAL. I AM CONVINCED AN ABS VALVE STUCK, SO I WENT TO THE DEALER TO GET A FIX / PART. TO MY SURPRISE, DEALER SAID FORD DOES NOT SUPPLY THE PART AND CANNOT FIX THIS PROBLEM WITH A NEW PART. SO, I HAVE NO SOLUTION. IF I GET A PART FROM THE JUNK YARD, IT WILL LIKELY HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM IN TIME. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM TO THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY, AND FORD OFFERS NO SOLUTION. ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF IS DEACTIVATE THE ABS. AT LEAST I WILL HAVE SOME BRAKES IN EMERGENCY RATHER THAN NO BRAKES.
WHEN DRIVING AND THE CAR HAS AN ABS BRAKING EVENT DUE TO A SUDDEN STOP OR SLICK ROAD CONDITIONS THE PEDAL WOULD DROP TO THE FLOOR AS IF THERE WAS NO BRAKE FLUID PRESSURE. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS RESTED PRESSURE WOULD RETURN. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 3 OCCURRENCES OF THE ISSUE, RESTING THE VEHICLE NO LONGER FIXED THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE WHO DIAGNOSED THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT HAD FAILED AND IT WAS REPLACED. THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED AND HAS NOT RETURNED AFTER SUBSEQUENT ABS BRAKING EVENTS.
THIS HAS HAPPEN INTERMITINGLY DURING THE COURSE OF OWNERSHIP. LATEST DATE IS 12/14/2017, CAR HAS 100,000 MILES ON IT - ORIGINAL OWNER. IF ON SLIPPERY, OR SNOWY ROAD AND BRAKES ARE USED TO STOP, IF ABS FUNCTIONS, PEDDLE GOES LOW AND STOPPING DIFFICULT. IF PEDAL PUMPED, BRAKES BECOME FIRM AND FUNCTION OK. EVENTUALLY SYSTEM GOES BACK TO NORMAL BY ITSELF.
MY PROBLEM IS EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN THE OPEN INVESTIGATION NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE16017 CALLED "EXTENDED BRAKING DISTANCE". AFTER ENGAGING THE ABS DUE TO ICY AND SNOWY CONDITIONS, MY BRAKE PEDAL BECAME VERY "SOFT" AND ALMOST GOES TO THE FLOOR. THE TYPICAL BRAKING CHARACTERISTICS ARE CHANGED DRAMATICALLY, MUCH GREATER FORCE AND DISTANCE ARE REQUIRED TO STOP THE CAR. THIS IS VERY REPEATABLE. PUMPINT THE BRAKES DID NOT IMMEDIATELY HELP, BUT EVENTUALLY THE PEDAL DID COME BACK TO THE NORMAL POSITION. DURING THE SUMMER OF 2017 I MUST HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITHOUT REALIZING IT, THE SHOP REPLACED MY MASTER CYLINDER BUT AS OF YESTERDAY IT'S OBVIOUS CHANGING THE MASTER CYLINDER DID NOT HELP. I SEE THIS AS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, I WILL NOT LET MY DAUGHTER DRIVE THIS CAR AGAIN UNTIL THIS IS FIXED.
I WAS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED. I WAS DRIVING AND TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED AND I ATTEMPTED TO STOP, HOWEVER WHEN I APPLIED PRESSURE AND THEN FELT MY PEDAL DROP AND GET SPONGY, I THEN HAD TO APPLY MUCH MORE PRESSURE BUT IT WASN'T ENOUGH. I ATTEMPTED TO AVOID A DIRECT REAR END COLLISION AND MANAGED TO VEER OFF TO THE RIGHT AND ONLY HIT THE OTHER CAR ON THE RIGHT REAR SIDE BUMPER. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENT REPORTS WHERE I HAVE REAR ENDED A PERSON AND IN THIS CASE I COULD FEEL THE BREAK PEDAL DROP UNDER ME. I FILED THE ACCIDENT REPORT WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY. THIS IS THE STATEMENT THAT I GAVE TO THEM. AS P1 PROCEEDED TO MERGE INTO THE NUMBER 2 LANE TRAFFIC WAS SLOWING DOWN AND I WAS ENTERING THE LANE AT 25 MILES PER HOUR. STILL TRAVELING WEST BOUND IN THE NUMBER 2 LANE JUST NORTH OF THE 59TH STREET OVERPASS, P2 WHO IS NOW DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF P1 SLAMS HIS BREAKS AND BEGINS TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. P1 WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25 FEET BEHIND P2 AT 25 MPH AND ALSO APPLIED THE FULL FORCE TO THE BREAKS. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES I FELT A SPONGY FEELING ON MY BRAKE PEDAL, AND IT DIDN'T BEHAVE THE SAME AND I HAD TO REAPPLY MUCH MORE FORCE AT WHICH TIME IT WAS TOO LATE. I COLLIDED WITH THE OTHER VEHICLE AT ABOUT 10 MPH "
ON OCTOBER 20, 2017 MY ELDERLY MOTHER HAD TRAVELED ABOUT 150 MILES OUT OF TOWN. WHEN TRAVELING A TWO LANE ROAD A FUNERAL PROCESSION WAS COMING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. SHE HAD PULL THE CAR HALF WAY OFF THE ROAD WITH ONE SIDE OFF THE ROAD AND THE OTHER ON THE ROAD. WHEN EVERYONE STARTED TO GO AGAIN THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP. WHEN MY MOTHER TRIED TO STOP SHE HAD NO BRAKES. SHE TRIED TO LEAVE THE ROAD TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER BUT SHE ENDED UP HITTING THE RIGHT CORNER OF THE CAR.. THANKFULLY MY BROTHER-IN-LAW WAS BEHIND HER. HE DROVE THE FORD FUSION 150 MILES USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKES FOR STOPPING HER CAR.IT WAS MOSTLY INTERSTATE MILES TO GET HER HOME. IF THE BRAKES HAD NOT FAILED UNTIL SHE WAS ON THE INTERSTATE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A FATAL INCIDENT. HER 2007 FORD FUSION HAS 85,000 MILES. SHE LOVED THE CAR BECAUSE IT HANDLES AND RIDES SO WELL EVEN THOUGH THE DASH IS BUCKLING AND COMING APART. NOW SHE IS AFRAID OF IT. HER MECHANIC REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER WHICH DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT WHICH CORRECTED THE ISSUE. THIS IS A RARE PART TO FAIL AND IT IS A REAL ISSUE.
I MADE A PANIC STOP TO AVOID HITTING A PEDESTRIAN. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WAS ACTIVATED WITH THIS STOP. THE CAR STOPPED CORRECTLY. I ARRIVED AT THE NEXT INTERSECTION TO STOP AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I ROLLED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. I PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL FOR TEN MINUTES BEFORE NORMAL BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE WAS ACHIEVED. THE CAR WAS LATER CHECKED OUT FOR THE LOW PEDAL AND IT WAS DETERMINED TO HAVE A DEFECTIVE ABS MODULE/UNIT. I AM DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH THE ABS FUSE REMOVED TO AVOID THIS FROM OCCURRING AGAIN UNTIL THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ABS UNIT IS MADE. THIS MUST BE RECALLED BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY BEFORE A FATALITY OCCURS.

I HAVE A 2007 FORD FUSION SEL V6. THE CAR HAD 87,000 MILES. IT WAS ON THE WAY TO WORK IN THE MORNING. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SLOWED DOWN SO I WAS SLOWING DOWN TOO. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PADDLE ALL THE TIME AT THAT MOMENT. THE SPEED SLOWED DOWN FROM ABOUT 35 MPH TO ABOUT 20-25 MPH. THEN IT FELT SUDDENLY NOT WORKING. I TRIED TO PRESS THE BRAKE HARDER BUT DID NOT WORK. THE ABS DIDN'T WORK EITHER. THERE WAS NO BRAKING SOUND OR MARK ON THE ROAD. THE CAR WOULDN'T STOP. I REAR ENDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WATCHED THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. AFTER THE CRASH, THE CAR KEPT MOVING FORWARD WHILE THE FRONT CAR PULLED FORWARD. I USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR BEFORE MOVING THE SHAFT TO PARK POSITION AND TURNING THE CAR OFF.
AFTER ENGAGING ABS, BRAKES ARE VERY SOFT AND BRAKE PEDAL NEEDS TO BE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR TO STOP THE CAR. BRAKES WERE FINE BEFORE AND AFTER INDETERMINATE NUMBER OF BRAKING ATTEMPTS BRAKES EVENTUALLY RETURN TO NORMAL. USUALLY AFTER A FEW DAYS OF DRIVING. ONLY CONSISTENT CONDITION THAT TRIGGERS THE DEFECT IS ACTIVATION OF ABS. HAS HAPPENED IN WINTER ON ICE, SUMMER IN RAIN OR GRAVEL.
LEAKING ABS PUMP, THUS ALSO SUCKS AIR IN CAUSING INEFFICIENT BRAKING. SEARCHED ONLINE AND LOOKS LIKE LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE FACED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE ABS PUMP OF RELATED FORD CARS, LINCOLN, MILAN, FUSION ETC. THE MENTIONED VEHICLE ONLY HAS 90K MILES ON IT. ITS TOO EARLY FOR ABS PUMP TO FAIL.

A WHILE AGO I BRAKED OVER A MAN HOLE COVER AND THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES KICKED IN AND I ALMOST CRASHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. EVER SINCE THIS HAPPENED THE BRAKES PUSH ABOUT 70% DOWN BEFORE ENGAGING. IT SEEMS SOMETHING HAS CHANGED WITH THE ABS SYSTEM WHEN THEY ENGAGE TOO EASILY. IT SEEMS TO HAVE OCCURRED ON SNOW COVERED OR ROUGH SPOTS ON THE HIGHWAY. ALL OF THE EVENTS OCCURRED ON ASPHALT PAVED ROADS. IT SELF CORRECTS FAIRLY QUICKLY. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE THE SAME AS REPORTED BY OTHER OWNERS OF 07-09 FUSIONS AND MILANS.
THIS HAD BEEN A REPEAT ISSUE I WOULD HIT A BUMP OR POTHOLE WHILE ALSO PRESSING THE BREAK. THERE WOULD BE A BRIEF SOUND OF THE ABS KICKING IN, FOLLOWED BY A SUDDEN AND ALARMING LOSS OF BRAKE PRESSURE. WHILE PRESSING THE BRAKES, THERE WOULD BE A MOMENT WHERE BACK PRESSURE WILL BE FELT, THEN WOULD PASS THAT THRESHOLD AND FULLY PRESSING THE BRAKE TO THE FLOOR WOULD BE NECESSARY TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AS OF FEB 2017, I HAVE APPROXIMATELY 92,000 MILES ON MY CAR. IN WINTER OF 2014 AFTER GOING OVER A PATCH OF ICE AND THE ABS ENGAGING THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME SPONGY AND WENT TO THE FLOOR. BRAKES STILL APPLIED BUT FELT LIKE MANUAL MODE. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF DIFFICULT BRAKING THE ISSUE RESOLVED ITSELF AND NORMAL BRAKING RESUMED. HOWEVER, EVERY TIME I BRAKED IN A GRAVEL AREA OR SUCH WITH LIMITED TRACTION AND THE ABS WOULD ENGAGE, IT WOULD CREATE A BRAKE ISSUE FOR SEVERAL DAYS. IN OCTOBER 2015, THE ISSUE BECAME PERMANENT, HOWEVER I FOUND I COULD CORRECT IT TEMPORARILY BY PULLING THE FUSE ASSOCIATED WITH THE ABS CONTROL MODULE WITH ENGINE OFF, STARTING THE CAR WITH IT OUT AND REINSERTING THE FUSE SEEMED TO RESET THE MODULE AND IT WORKED PROPERLY AGAIN FOR A DAY OR 2 AT BEST BEFORE REVERTING BACK TO THE SOFT PEDAL ISSUE. I ALSO NOTED, PULSING THE PEDAL AND THEN SLAMMING ON THE PEDAL, AS YOU WOULD DURING EMERGENCY BRAKING, WOULD CREATE A NORMAL PEDAL FEEL AT TIMES, BUT THAT IS NOT NEEDED DURING TYPICAL DRIVING AND WOULD IMMEDIATELY REVERT BACK TO POOR PEDAL FEEL. I'VE RECENTLY CALLED MY LOCAL FORD PARTS DEPARTMENT, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PART FOR A 2007 FORD FUSION, PART # 7E5Z 2C215A, IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE, AND THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE PART FOR THE 2008 FUSION WOULD FIT OR WORK WITH A 2007 ECU. SO I'M LEFT WITH FINDING ONE IN A SCRAP YARD OR TAKING A CHANCE THAT A $1,235 2008 PART MAY WORK WITH MY VEHICLE. AFTER HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD THE BRAKES BECAME SOFT, GOING ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. I WAS DRIVING ON A PAVED COUNTY ROAD.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2007 FORD FUSION APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES AN HOUR AND APPROACHING A STOPLIGHT, I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AND THE CAR PASSED OVER A ROUGH PATCH OF ROAD WITH SEVERAL POTHOLES. THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME SOFT AND MOVED DOWN TOWARDS THE FLOORBOARD AND THE CAR COASTED WITHOUT CONTINUING TO SLOW DOWN. AFTER RELEASING THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AGAIN, THE PEDAL WAS STILL SOFT AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO COAST AND EVENTUALLY CAME TO A STOP WELL INTO THE INTERSECTION AFTER THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS MASHED TO THE FLOOR. THE SOFT BRAKE ISSUE CONTINUED AS I DROVE THE CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE REPAIR SHOP HAS BEEN ABLE TO REMEDY THE FIX BY BLEEDING THE BRAKE LINES BUT THE ISSUE HAS RECURRED OVER TIME AND THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A PERMANENT FIX MADE AVAILABLE. THIS IS THE FOURTH OCCURRENCE OF THIS "SOFT BRAKE" PROBLEM OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS. EACH TIME IT HAS OCCURRED I HAVE AVOIDED A COLLISION BUT WORRY THAT I MAY NOT BE AS LUCKY THE NEXT TIME THIS OCCURS. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN JULY 2007 AND HAD NO BRAKE ISSUES UNTIL TWO YEARS AGO. BETWEEN 55-65K THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME SOFT/MUSHY AND SPORADICALLY WOULD GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR/FIREWALL WHEN TRYING TO STOP; SOMETIMES ROLLING THROUGH A STOP SIGN OR A TRAFFIC LIGHT. EVENTUALLY PUMPING THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK AND I HAD A MUSHY BRAKE PEDAL WITH NO BRAKES AT ALL THAT WOULD GO RIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. I HAD NEW ROTORS AND PADS INSTALLED AND BLED THE BRAKES BUT THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. AFTER RESEARCHING AND DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM I BOUGHT AND INSTALLED A USED HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT FROM THE IDENTICAL MAKE, YEAR AND MODEL AS MY CAR. I COULD NOT AFFORD A NEW UNIT AT $880.00 DOLLARS PLUS TAX AND DEALER INSTALLATION $$$$. THE BRAKES WORKED FINE AFTER THE USED HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT WAS INSTALLED. THE PROBLEM IS THAT AFTER AN ANTI-LOCK BREAKING EVENT A VALVE IN THE UNIT REMAINS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION AND CAUSES THE SOFT BREAKING.

AFTER CHANGING ROTOR AND BRAKE PAD ALL AROUND ON VEHICLE THE BRAKE PEDAL STILL GOES ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR . CAR WILL STOP BUT NOT WITHOUT SOME ADDITIONAL PUMPING AND ALLOWING MORE TIME TO STOP
THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR OVER A YEAR. THE MOST RECENT EVENT WAS 12/16/2016. AFTER ABS ENGAGES FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME, BRAKES GO SOFT AND THERE IS NO BRAKING POWER UNTIL THE FLOOR, WHEN THEY FINALLY ACTIVATE. PUMPING THE BRAKE ITSELF A FEW TIMES CAN TEMPORARILY HARDEN THE BRAKES. WHAT FIXED IT THE PREVIOUS YEAR [UNTIL ANOTHER ABS EVENT] WAS DOING A FEW HARD EMERGENCY STOPS AT A SLOW SPEED. THIS IS NO LONGER WORKING AND THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF TO DO IS TAKE THIS TO A DEALER EVERY TIME IT ACTIVATES AND HAVE THEM BLEED THE ABS/BRAKE SYSTEM. I HAVEN'T TAKEN THIS INTO THE DEALER, BUT FROM WHAT I'VE BEEN READING, IT'S THE HCU UNIT THAT IS LEAVING A VALVE OPEN. BRAKES HARDEN UP AGAIN WHEN THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF AND PUT IN PARK. AGAIN, THERE IS VERY LITTLE OR NO BRAKING POWER UNTIL WELL AFTER THE PEDAL IS NEARLY FULLY DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 FORD FUSION. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS VALVE MALFUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
AFTER HITTING THE BRAKES AND ENGAGING THE ABS SYSTEM, THE BRAKES HAVE NOW GONE "SOFT" AS THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT HAS NOT RESET ITSELF AND THE BACKSIDE VALVE REMAINS OPEN. I NOW MUST PRESS THE BRAKES ABOUT 90% OF THE DISTANCE TO THE FLOOR EVERY TIME IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP APPROPRIATELY. AFTER SOME BASIC RESEARCH THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH 07 AND 08 FORD FUSIONS. THE MECHANIC CANNOT FIGURE OUT A SURE FIX AND ANY SUGGESTED FIX IS VERY COSTLY WITH NO GUARANTEE OF SUCCESS. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL ON THIS???? VERY UNSAFE!!
WHILE DRIVING THE BRAKE PEDAL BEGAN TO FAIL, AS I PRESSED DOWN ON THE BRAKE IT TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE, I QUICKLY RELEASED PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PRESSED AGAIN, THE BRAKES THEN ENGAGED BUT THE PEDAL STILL TRAVELED DOWN PAST ITS NORMAL POSITION. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A CITY STREET (ASPHALT-NO APPARENT DAMAGE TO ROAD), I WAS ABLE TO STOP AND NOT HIT ANYTHING BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED AND QUICKLY REAPPLIED THE BRAKE.
I HAVE HAD TWO INCIDENTS WHERE MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NO BRAKES. THE FIRST TIME, OCTOBER 21, 2015, THE DEALER COULDN'T PINPOINT THE PROBLEM AND SUGGESTED REPLACING THE REAR BRAKES WHICH WERE WORN (NOTE: THEY HAD PASSED INSPECTION NO LONG BEFORE THIS TIME). I AGREED TO THIS REPAIR. THEN ON APRIL 2, THE PEDAL ONCE AGAIN WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN I BRAKED. I PUMPED THE BRAKES AND WAS ABLE TO STOP FOR A RED LIGHT WITHOUT HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THIS TIME THE DEALER REPLACED THE ABS VALVE MODULE, FLUSHED AND REPLACED THE BRAKE FLUID. LUCKILY DURING BOTH INCIDENTS I WAS DRIVING ON CITY STREETS AT LOW SPEEDS. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED AFTER I HIT A POT HOLE WITH MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE. AS SOON AS I BRAKED THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE SECOND TIME I HIT A ROUGH PATCH WHERE THE STREET HAD BEEN DUG UP AND TEMPORARILY PATCHED. I SUSPECT THERE IS SOMETHING GOING ON BETWEEN THE ABS SYSTEM AND THE BRAKES. EVEN WITH THE LATEST REPAIR I HAVE LOST ALL CONFIDENCE IN THE CAR'S BRAKES. I WOULD HATE TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD A CAR BEEN DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME OR HAD I BEEN TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I DO NOT WANT TO EXPERIENCE ANOTHER INCIDENT OF THIS SUDDEN, UNEXPLAINED BRAKE LOSS.
WHILE DRIVING AROUND 25 TO 30 MPH ON WET ROADS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, I WAS BRAKING NORMALLY AND MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE WAS OVER A MAN HOLE COVER. THE ABS ENGAGED AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKES HAVE NEVER RETURNED TO A NORMAL FEEL. I'VE HAD THE MASTER CYLINDER REPLACED AND BRAKES BLED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND WAS FINALLY TOLD THAT THE ABS VALVE MODULE WAS STUCK OPEN. I WAS QUOTED OVER $1,000 BY FORD DEALERSHIP. CAN'T AFFORD IT SO I'VE LEARNED TO LIVE WITH A SPONGY BRAKE PEDAL. I JUST PRAY I DON'T NEED TO STOP SUDDENLY.

I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALER TO HAVE MY BRAKES CHECKED. I WAS TOLD I NEEDED NEW BRAKES AND ROTORS, AFTER REPLACING BRAKES AND REAR ROTORS DROVE THE CAR OUT , LESS THAN A QUARTER OF A MILE ON THE WAY HOME BRAKE PADDLE WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR.RETURN TO THE DEALER WAS SUGGESTED I NEED A MASTER CYLINDER , THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REPLACED WAS TOLD THAT WAS NOT THE PROBLEM. NO ONE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS FOR TWO DAYS, I WAS CALLED AND INFORM IT WAS ABS VALVE MODULE. FORD DEALER HAD TO ORDER VALVE MODULE ONE WEEK LATER STILL WAITING. COMPLETE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE! I WAS THE THIRD VEHICLE IN LINE WAITING FOR A RED LIGHT TO CHANGE. THE LIGHT CHANGED AND WE ALL STARTED MOVING FORWARD. WE MOVE STRAIGHT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. ABOUT 200 FEET PAST THE INTERSECTION TWO STRAY DOGS RUN ACROSS THE ROADWAY. THE ROADWAY IS A DIVIDED FOUR LANE WITH PASSING LANES AND IS A 40 MPH ZONE. THE TWO VEHICLES IN FRONT WERE ABLE TO STOP. AS I APPLIED PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES, I HAD THIS SENSE THAT SOMETHING IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM LET GO. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD. I REMEMBER PUSHING FOR ALL I WAS WORTH ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE, BUT HAVING THE SENSE THAT THE VEHICLE IS JUST NOT STOPPING. THE ACCIDENT WAS WRITTEN UP AS UNAVOIDABLE DUE TO THE TWO DOGS AND NO DRIVER WAS CITED. THAT EVENING AS I HAD TIME TO RELIVE THE ACCIDENT, I RECALLED THE SENSE OF THE BRAKES HAVING FAILED. THE NEXT DAY I WENT INTO THE BODY SHOP AND TOLD THEM WHAT I REMEMBERED AND ASKED THEM TO INSPECT THE BRAKES AS PART OF THE REPAIR ASSESSMENT. THEY FOUND THAT THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS COMPLETELY GONE EXCEPT FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. THE DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM SHOWED NUMEROUS CODES IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE BODY SHOP HAD SOMEONE FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY COME AND CHECK ON THE BRAKES AND THEY REPORTED THAT THE ABS SYSTEM HAD GONE OUT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT BRAKE FAILURE CAUSED THE ACCIDENT, AND NOT THE ACCIDENT THAT CAUSED THE BRAKING SYSTEM TO FAIL. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT WHEN THE SYSTEM WENT DOWN THAT THE ABS SYSTEM BLEW OUT PRESSURE LINES AND ALSO CAUSED AND ELECTRICAL FAILURE THAT BURNED ELECTRICAL LINES AND BLEW OUT THE FUSES. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING 70 MPH, I MIGHT NOT BE HERE TO TELL ABOUT IT. IS THERE A HISTORY OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR? EQUIPMENT FAILURE LIKE THIS KILLS PEOPLE. *TR

DROVE IT HOME AND IT DID IT ONE TIME AGAIN. CONTINUED DRIVING IT FOR ABOUT 300 MILES BEFORE IT HAPPENED AGAIN LAST NIGHT. THIS TIME THE BRAKE FAILED AT 4 STOPS IN A ROW. THEN IT ENGAGED AGAIN AND WAS FINE THE REST OF THE 20 MILES HOME. THE DEALER MECHANIC SAID IT MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ABS BUT IT WILL BE EXPENSIVE TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR BECAUSE IT ONLY HAPPENS INTERMITANTLY. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER FUSION OWNERS FORUMS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM . ONE PERSON SAID IT COST $2000 TO FIX. FORD ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN AND SET UP A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM BUT ONLY FOR HYBRIDS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I WENT RIGHT THROUGH THE STOP SIGN AND COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IF THE OTHER PERSON HADN'T SLAMMED ON THEIR BRAKES. *TR
I HAD PURCHASED MY 2007 FORD FUSION NEW AND HAD A FEW ODDITIES DURING THE COURSE OF OWNERSHIP. WITHIN TWO YEARS OF OWNERSHIP I HAD A BATTERY SHORT OUT. AT THREE YEARS I HAD TO HAVE A HEFTY BRAKE SERVICE DONE BECAUSE OF A CLICKING NOISE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. I NOTICED AT FOUR YEARS THAT WHEN I WOULD REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AND OPEN THE DOOR, THE CAR WOULD CHIME AS IF THE KEY WAS STILL IN IT. THE DEALER HAD NO IDEA WHAT CAUSED THE CHIMING AND IT HAPPENED SPORADICALLY. THE BIGGEST ISSUE WAS IN LATE NOVEMBER OF 2011, I WAS MERGING ON TO THE HIGHWAY AND GOING TO PASS A VEHICLE; MY CAR BEGAN TO REV REALLY HIGH, BUT I WAS NOT ACCELERATING THAT MUCH. I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL THEN BACK TO FIFTH GEAR STILL NO ACCELERATING. AT THAT MOMENT THE CHECK ENGINE CAME ON AND I NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS DEAD AND COSTING. AFTER I STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHERE THEY SPENT TWO WEEKS OF TEARING APART MY MOTOR. THEY DETERMINED THAT A BOLT CAME LOOSE RELEASING MY TIMING BELT DESTROYING MY ENGINE. I PURCHASED AND EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH SAVED ME $7500 IN REPLACEMENT COST. AFTER TWO MORE WEEKS I HAD THE CAR BACK. I NOTICED BELT NOISE WHEN I STARTED THE CAR AND THE ENGINE WAS LOUDER THAN THE ORIGINAL ENGINE. WITHIN A MONTH THE CAR WOULD NOT START AGAIN. THE CHIP IN THAT KEY WENT OUT, AND WHEN I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE CHIMING AND THE BELTS. THEY INFORMED ME; THE KEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (COSTING $300 DOLLARS), MY BELTS WERE FROM THE ORIGINAL ENGINE AND NOW STRETCHED OUT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND THE STARTER WAS GOING OUT. THE MYSTERY OF THE CHIMING WAS FINALLY SOLVED. FORD OFFERED ME EMPLOYEE PRICING ON A NEW CAR BUT WOULD NOT BY BACK MY FUSION. THE DEALERSHIP OFFERED ME NOTHING. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED AND EXCLUSIVELY SERVICED THERE. *TR
WHEN BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. THE CAR DID NOT STOP. I PUT CAR IMMEDIATELY INTO PARK AND THEN PUMPED BRAKES. PRESSURE SEEMED TO RETURN TO THE BRAKES SO I PROCEEDED TO BACK OUT AGAIN, TESTING BRAKES CONSISTENTLY. BRAKES SEEMED TO RESPOND BUT SEEMED "SOFT" STILL. I DROVE CAR TO MECHANIC WITHOUT INCIDENT, THINKING THE PROBLEM WAS THE MASTER CYLINDER. MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT THE MASTER CYLINDER BUT RATHER THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL MODULE AND THAT HE HAD SEEN THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH FOUR OTHER FORD VEHICLES, TWO OF THEM FUSIONS. MECHANIC STATED THAT WHEN HE LOOKED UP THE SYMPTOMS I REPORTED TO HIM IN HIS "IDENTIFIX/OEM" DATABASE THAT THIS PROBLEM CAME UP ASSOCIATED WITH A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FROM FORD, INCLUDING THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOW TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. HE COULD NOT FIND A RECALL NOTICE FOR THIS PROBLEM, HOWEVER. THIS APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT AND I AM PERPLEXED AS TO WHY THERE IS NO RECALL. I WILL BE CONTACTING THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER. MY MECHANIC REPAIRED THE PROBLEM WHICH COST JUST OVER $2000 AND DID INCLUDE HIM TAKING THE CAR TO A FORD DEALER TO RESET THE ABS AND ASSOCIATE THE REPAIR WITH MY VIN. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN AND ACCELERATED UP AN EMBANKMENT AND INTO A DIRT MOUND. THE SEAT BELT FAILED TO SECURE THE CONTACT AND CAUSED HER TO FORCEFULLY STRIKE THE WINDSHIELD AREA. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED EYE, NECK AND BACK INJURIES. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING THE CRASH. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED AND TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,096.
I HAVE JUST SPENT $230 TO HAVE THE REAR BRAKE DISKS REPLACED ON MY 2007 FORD FUSION. THEY WERE SO PITTED FROM CORROSION THAT THEY MADE A TERRIBLE NOISE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THEY MIGHT EVEN HAVE BEEN A SAFETY HAZARD FOR ALL I KNOW. THE FRONT ONES WERE REPLACED A MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 2007 FOR THE SAME REASON. THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN A MERE 20,000 MILES. THE MECHANIC TELLS ME THAT THE FRONT DISKS WILL PROBABLY NEED REPLACEMENT AGAIN IN A YEAR OR TWO. FURTHER, HE TELLS ME THAT IT DIDN'T MATTER THAT THE WARRANTY PERIOD WAS PAST ( BY A COUPLE OF MONTHS), BECAUSE THIS IS CONSIDERED A "WEAR" PROBLEM AND, THEREFORE, NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. IS MY EXPERIENCE UNIQUE AMONG FUSION OWNERS? I BET NOT. CLEARLY, FORD HAS DROPPED THE BALL ON ITS BRAKE DISK MATERIALS SPECIFICATION. I WILL CERTAINLY LOOK AT OTHER BRANDS BEFORE I EVEN CONSIDER BUYING ANOTHER FORD. *TR
THE POWER BOOSTER IN MY 2007 FORD FUSION FAILED AFTER ONLY A FEW MONTHS OF THE BRAKES FEELING "OFF" AT RARE, RANDOM TIMES. IT WENT OUT, RENDERING MY BRAKES USELESS OVER 55 MPH AND CAUSED ME TO REAR END SOMEONE BECAUSE THE BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE CAR. *TR
I NOTICED THAT MY REAR BRAKES WERE MAKING NOISE ON 8-25-08. I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO THE SHOP TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND HAVE THE BRAKES LOOKED AT. I WAS TOLD MY REAR BRAKES WERE METAL TO METAL ON THE INSIDE PADS. I NEEDED NEW BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP SINCE I ONLY HAVE 25,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND THEY REPLACED THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS BUT COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WENT WRONG. I WAS THEN CHARGED $310 TO HAVE THEM REPLACED. MY FRONT BRAKES ARE ONLY WORN DOWN 10%. *TR
I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE SINCE APRIL 2007. SINCE THAT TIME MY CHECK BRAKES AND BRAKE FLUID LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON WHILE DRIVING. I PULL OVER AND POP THE HOOD TO CHECK MY BRAKE FLUID LEVELS AND IT IS OKAY. I MENTIONED THIS TWICE TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENTS WHEN BRINGING MY VEHICLE IN FOR ROUTINE OIL CHANGES AND THEY HAVE NOT FOUND ANYTHING WRONG OR A REASON FOR THIS LIGHT TO KEEP COMING ON IN THE DASH GAUGES. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM AND IF SO WHAT IS THE SOLUTION. COULD THIS BE A RELAY OR SWITCH THAT IS FAULTY. I HAVE A FORD FUSION 07 THE PROBLEM THAT I HAVE IS THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS RUST SO BADLY WHEN I DON'T DRIVE FOR A WEEK OR TWO THE BRAKES SHUDDER BADLY WHAT CAN BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM? I HAVE A OLD 95 BUICK THAT IS UNDER THE SAME CARPORT THAT CAN SET FOR A MONTH OR LONGER AND DOES NOT SHUDDER AFTER SITTING LONGER THAN THE FORD I AM RETIRED AND DO NOT DRIVE EITHER VEHICLE VERY MUCH. *TR
