ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured January 11, 2012, to April 1, 2013, and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles manufactured May 03, 2012, to October 14, 2013. Insufficient compression in the engine wiring harness splices to the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor may provide incorrect signals to the powertrain control module (PCM).

Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the current crimped splices with new splices, free of charge. The recall began on January 7, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S17-S1.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Escape vehicles manufactured October 5, 2011, to April 1, 2013, and equipped with 2.0 liter engines and Focus ST vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, to October 14, 2013, and equipped with 2.0 liter engines. Insufficient compression in the engine wiring harness splices to the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor may provide incorrect signals to the powertrain control module (PCM).

Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the current crimped splices with new splices, free of charge. The recall began in October 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S17.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that a wiring harness needed to be repaired. The dealer made the contact aware of an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

I was driving my 2014 Ford Focus electric car sometime in 2023 and the system told me to immediately pull over for no reason. I was able to pull it over but it would not start again after turning it off. I let it sit and came back the next day since I needed to go somewhere and it started. The car then had issues starting and I tried to diagnose with the dealership and we ended up recharging the battery because it was low. It was a little more consistent but it died again but this time it would not turn over. I finally got the car to the dealership to diagnose and it took them over a month to do so. It seems the High voltage wire harness was bad and needed to be replaced. It seems that this should be a recall because it is a major component and even a safety issue since the car died while driving.

The contact stated that the failure had been draining the battery. The contact’s husband had to disconnect the battery after turning off the vehicle in order to prevent the battery from being drained. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact related the failure to Ford Campaign Number: 15C06. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. - Faulty windshield washer pump pushing liquid into the Body Control Module and harness - Damaged electrical communications communications controlled by the Body Control Module including: 1) functionality of the wipers resulting in obscuring the windshield from clear visibility of the road 2) vehicle will not reliably shut off after removing the key. It continues to run. 3) vehicle will not reliably shift into different gears due to the disruption of the electronic transmission signaling. 4) electrical system drains the battery after a few hours of sitting idle. - The problem has been identified by a dealership - A dealer has inspected the problem. - Washer pumps would intermittently function and then randomly would not.

One day as I was driving and sitting at a red light, that then turned green I was pushing on the gas but the car would not move. I placed my foot back onto the break put the car in park and then put it back in drive. The car then did pull off but very fast and kind of out of control. I felt like my safety was absolutely at risk because it continued to do this my entire way home stopping myself in traffic and jerking as I am driving. We did take the car to a shop which is where they told us it can be an electric problem somewhere in the transmission. At the time we couldn’t not afford to get any work done on the car. No the car hasn’t been inspected by the manufacturer or police or insurance. No warning lamps were on prior to these problems. The check engine light came on about 2-3 days later.

On January 14, 2022, at approximately 5:20 P.M. my wife was traveling southbound on Pleasant Hill Road in Lafayette, California towards the freeway entrance when the Ford Focus Electric she was driving displayed a Stop Safely Now message and almost immediately thereafter lost motive power at the busiest intersection in the City of Lafayette. She was able to steer the car to the shoulder since she was in the right hand lane. The vehicle would not move and the steering wheel locked up. She called for assistance and I drove down and exchanged cars with her within approximately 15 minutes. After approximately 10 minutes of trying, I was able to get the vehicle to turn off and to turn on again without the Stop Safely Now warning and was able to return the approximately 1.5 miles to our residence. The sudden unexpected loss of motive power and loss of ability to accelerate is extremely dangerous and frightening and that danger can be extreme when traveling on roads without shoulders or in any lane except the right lane on a freeway.

The engine shut down at highway speed (62mph). At time we were travelling on a state highway at night and with inclement weather. The engine light came on and identified engine fault and service engine now. There was no prior indication of any engine malfunction. The problem was confirmed and repaired by Johnson Ford in Pittsfield Massachusetts. The wiring harnass on the intake manifold was melted and exposed wiring that when wet became a dead short for the engine.

I'm being persecuted by Ford Motor. I purchased a 2014 Ford Focus SE Jan. 26th 2018 from Rocco Degregorio at 6701 Essington Ave. told no recalls or safety issues.The car was brought back next day, driving improperly. Many problems found, was told all fixed.The car malfunctioned April 23rd 2018 accelerating forward disabling me for life! UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. Former attorneys, Rosenbaum &Associates mishandled my case, filed suit in 2020. Honorable Judge New gave me a stay. I'm representing myself for justice, in severe pain & more needed surgery.I have documents to prove all I say. How can I face trial alone?! I suffer physically, emotionally,financially going without medical supplies, medication. I pay $209.97 a mo.for a car that almost killed me, sits at auto collision where malfunction codes were obtained since 2018 to date, its evidence. A state investor detective said its the worse case of auto fraud she ever saw. Ford is blaming 3rd party suppliers for the defects on the suit. The stereo/radio emits a very loud popping/cracking noise. The noise happens whether the car is turned or off. This puts the driver and passengers in danger because having a loud noise randomly happen while driving can cause the driver to jerk the wheel as a reflex/reaction. This can cause an accident on the road, putting the driver and passengers at risk, along with other vehicles and it’s passengers at risk. The manufacturer has not acknowledged the issue, and no guidance has been issued for owners. There are no warning lights or messages in place. This happens randomly and is very scary.

The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer where they diagnosed her vehicle with a deformed fuel tank. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V515000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the Vin was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the Vin was not included in the recall. The representative informed her that a supervisor would reach out to her for further assistance however, the contact had yet to hear from the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

Jan.26th 2018 I purchased a 2014 Ford Focus SE from Pacifico Ford. I was told by salesman No Recalls and No safety Issues. The car was on the lot with new inspection stickers. I was given a clean car fax. I was deceived. The car was returned the next day for driving improperly. It gave too much gas or not enough, was shuddering and sticking, steering issues, drifted to the right, and steering wheel had to be crooked to park to adjust the wheels, and car had a burn smell. Ford found transmission problem, engine leaking oil, clutch problem, cpu issues, failed road test and leaky seals. A week later, I was told all was fixed as new. April 23rd 2018 the car malfunctioned disabling me for life. While I was parking, the car accelerated forward, slammed into a barrier, roared up in the air, slammed down a slope and into a tree. Malfunction codes from an auto collision center were it was towed were achieved, one of which is an acceleration malfunction code. No air bags deployed, no warning. I found out after the malfunction there were many safety issues and recalls that I was not told of day of sale. Ford, a once trusted company, disabled me for life.

I THOUGHT IT WAS A BLOWN FUSE BUT TURNS OUT IT'S ANOTHER ISSUE WITH THE CAR ON TOP OF THE PREVIOUS RECALLS IT HAS HAD. I CAN'T EVEN RENEW MY CAR REGISTRATION UNTIL THIS IS FIXED AND IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD. I CAN'T EVEN WARN DRIVERS WHEN THEY ARE ABOUT TO CRASH INTO ME ON THE HIGHWAY. FORD WANTS TO CHARGE AN OVER THE TOP PRICE TO LOOK AND FIX THE PROBLEM BUT THERE IS NOT GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL EVEN BE COMPLETELY FIXED SEEING AS ANOTHER FORD FOCUS OWNER I MET IN PERSON AND WHAT I'VE READ ONLINE HAVE ALSO HAS ISSUES WITH THEIR HORN NOT WORKING ANYMORE. THIS SHOULD BE UNDER A RECALL WITH FORD.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE HOUSING FOR THE PCM BROKE AND THE WHOLE THING FELL HITTING THE DRIVER FRONT TIRE AND DRAGGING ON THE WHILE ABLE TO STOP. THE CAR THEN SHUT OFF AND AND HAD ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION ERROR CODES. TOOK THE CAR TO SHOP TO BE FIXED. A FEW WEEKS LATER THE CAR STARTS SHIFTING HARD AND SOMETIMES NOT SHIFTING PAST 3RD GEAR THROUGH OUT THE DAY BY THW END OF THE DAY REVERSE QUITS WORKING. THE NEXT DROVE CAR 15 MILES TO TOWN SHUT IT OFF AND HAS NOT STARTED SINCE. WAITING ON DEALERSHIP TO HAVE AVAILABLE TIME SLOT TO REPAIR.

THEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. MY HORN DOESN'T WORK WHICH IS IS HUGE SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME THOSE ARE JUST THE NEW ISSUES I ALSO HAVE HAD THE TCM REPLACED TWICE AND IT NEVER MADE A DIFFERENCE TO THE CAR.

VEHICLE WAS HAVING MANY ELECTRICAL ISSUES INCLUDING SECURITY SYSTEM RANDOMLY GOING OFF, HEADLIGHTS FLICKERING, INABILITY TO START ENGINE, INABILITY TO STOP ENGINE EVEN WHEN ELECTRICAL WAS POWERED DOWN AND BATTERY DRAINAGE. THE PROBLEM WAS THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) HAVING BEEN DAMAGED FROM WASHER FLUID INGRESS FROM THE PUMP, ALONG THE WIRE HARNESS, THEN INTO THE BCM. CORROSION AND DAMAGE WAS BEYOND REPAIR. NEEDED TO REPLACE AND REPROGRAM. WILL BE WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR 2 MONTHS BECAUSE OF PART BACKORDER. REPAIR COSTS WILL END UP BEING CLOSE TO $2,000.

THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT DUE TO THE HORN NOT FUNCTIONING IT COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FORD OF NORTHAMPTON (968 BRIDGE RD, NORTHAMPTON, MA 01060) WHERE THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE WIRES UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE THAT WERE CORRODED, CAUSING THE HORN TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000.

UPON "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT ILLUMINATION, I TOOK CAR TO GARAGE TO HAVE CODES READ. THEY SHOWED ME WHAT THEY BELIEVED TO BE THE ISSUE AND SAID I SHOULD CHECK WITH FORD FOR RECALLS OR COMPENSATION TO HAVE WHAT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT FIXED. I GOOGLED MY SITUATION AND WAS STUNNED TO SEE HOW COMMON A PROBLEM IT IS. ONE EXAMPLE OF THIS CAN BE FOUND AT: HTTPS://WWW.FOCUSFANATICS.COM/FORUM/MK3-FOCUS/517737-TSB-14-0215-CHAFING-WIRING-HARNESS.HTML. IN MY SITUATION THE WIRE HARNESS HAS CUT THROUGH FROM RUBBING ON THE MANIFOLD AND THERE IS OBVIOUS CORROSION TO THE WIRING. THIS CAUSES SPORADIC LOSS OF ACCELERATION AND HAS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO NOT START UPON TWO OCCASIONS. LOSS OF ACCELERATION WHEN TRAVELING CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND ACCIDENT CAUSING. AND THE COST TO FIX THIS MANUFACTURING FLAW SEEMS DEPENDENT ON HOW MANY WIRES ARE INVOLVED, AND IF ANY CIRCUITS WERE ACTUALLY FRIED AND NON-WORKING AS A RESULT OF THE WIRING ISSUE. I WAS QUOTED UPWARDS OF $1000 FOR THE FULL WIRING HARNESS ALONE WITH NO LABOR (WORSE CASE SCENARIO). I AM ALSO UNABLE TO PASS NYS INSPECTION UNTIL THE ISSUE IS FIXED AND THE CODES ARE CLEARED. I HAVE SPOKEN TO A REPRESENTATIVE FROM FORD AND WAS INFORMED THAT NO PROGRAMS ARE IN PLACE AT THIS TIME TO DEAL WITH THIS ISSUE. FORD HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN AWARE OF THIS FLAW FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW. IF I HAD BEEN MADE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, IT COULD HAVE BEEN EASILY CORRECTED BEFORE IT BECAME DESTRUCTIVE AND DANGEROUS AND A MAJOR REPAIR JOB. I FEEL IGNORING THIS ISSUE IS NEGLIGENT ON THE PART OF FORD.

AFTER LETTING THE VEHICLE SIT AND DISCONNECTING ANYTHING THAT MAY DRAW ON THE BATTERY WE STILL FOUND A 3 AMP DRAW PULLING FROM THE BATTERY. UPON INSPECTION WE FOUND THE AIR BAG DEACTIVATION LIGHT LIT ON THE DASH WITH THE KEY OFF. CHECKED THE WIRING DIAGRAM FOUND THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS POWERED OUT OF THE BCM. UNPLUGGED CONNECTOR C2280G DRAW GOES AWAY. CHECKED ALL CONNECTORS AT BCM, FOUND C2280D WITH WASHER FLUID IN THE CONNECTOR AND CONNECTOR BURNT FROM HIGH RESISTANCE. CHECKED CONNECTOR C137 AT THE WASHER PUMP FOUND THE WASHER PUMP LEAKING INTO CONNECTOR C137 AND PUMPING ALL THE WAY TO THE BCM ALONG CIRCUITS CRW23 AND CRW24. CONNECTOR C2280D IS NOT SERVICED AS A PIGTAIL, SO A COMPLETE HARNESS WILL BE NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR. A BCM AND WASHER PUMP WILL BE NEEDED TO RESOLVE THIS CONCERN IN ITS ENTIRETY

I MANAGED TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE RAMP THROUGH THE TRAFFIC. I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART MY VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE. AFTER LETTING IT REST FOR A FEW MINUTES I TURNED THE KEY AGAIN WHILE GIVING THE ENGINE GAS. IT SPUTTERED ON AND I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT ONTO THE STREET. HOWEVER, IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AT USUAL. REVED AT 400, I WAS STILL ONLY GETTING UP TO 20 MPH AFTER ABOUT 500 FT. IT DIED AGAIN ONCE I GOT UNDER THE UNDERPAID, ATTEMPTING TO MAKE IT THE REMAINING THREE MINUTES TO WORK. AFTER A FEW MORE ATTEMPTS I WAS ABLE TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN AND CREEPED THE REST OF THE WAY TO WORK WITH MY HAZARDS ON. WHILE WORKING I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP FOR A TOW, SINCE MY HUSBAND CARRIES AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED THEY INFORMED US THAT IT WAS THE WIRING HARNESS AN THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER OUR WARRANTY. THEY ALSO THEN TOLD US THAT THE TOW WOULD NOT BE COVERED EITHER SINCE WE DID NOT USE THE APPROPRIATE COMPANY FOR ROADSIDE. MY HUSBAND PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE SIX WEEKS AGO AND WE ARE NOW FACING A $1400 REPAIR AND A $300 DIAGNOSTIC AND TOW. AFTEVSOME RESEARCH MY HUSBAND FOUND THAT 2014 FORD FOCUS ST HAD A RECALL FOR THE EXACT ISSUE. I FEEL THAT THE FAULT MAY BE FOR MORE THAT JUST THE SPORTS ADDITION.

ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYNC SYSTEM HAS SHUT DOWN AND NO LONGER FUNCTIONS. WHILE THE SYNC WAS GOING OUT, THE SPEAKERS WOULD CRACKLE AND MAKE LOUD, STARTLING POP SOUNDS. THIS CAUSED JERKY DRIVING AS THEY WOULD POP WITHOUT ANY NOTICE, EVEN IF THE SYNC SYSTEM WAS TURNED OFF. RECENTLY, THE WIND SHIELD WIPERS TURNED ON AND WERE SPORADICALLY INCREASING/DECREASING IN SPEED AND WOULD NOT TURN OFF. THE CAR WAS ON (NOT THE ENGINE) AND PARKED WHEN THE WIPERS TURNED ON. ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE CAR OFF, RESET BY OPENING THE DOORS, AND TURNING THE CAR BACK ON. THEY PAUSED AND THEN STARTED UP AGAIN ONCE THE CAR WAS DRIVING ON CITY STREETS. THE SPEAKERS POPPING AND THE RADIO MALFUNCTION OCCURS WHILE DRIVING, WHILE PARKED, WHEN THE CAR IS ON, AND WHEN IT IS OFF. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE AND WORSE OVER THE PAST YEAR.

TAKATA RECALL AMONGST THE KNOWN RECALLS, IS A LOT OF UNSAID ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE. IT STARTED WITH THE TCM. WHEN I HAD THE DEALER FIX IT, THE CODES WERE SHOWING OK BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO DISPLAY THE SAME ISSUES WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE. FOR SOME REASON WHEN DRIVING, IT SEEMS AS IF I'M DRIVING A MANUAL VEHICLE INSTEAD OF A AUTOMATIC. THE CLUTCH IS GIVING ME PROBLEMS. IT TEND TO GET STUCK IN THE HILL ASSIST MODE. A FEW WEEKS AGO MY CAR JUST DIED. IT SEEMED TO BE THE BATTERY. WHEN REPLACED IT WAS OK FOR A DAY OR SO. I HAD IT CHECKED TO SEE IF MY ALTERNATOR WAS BAD. IT BOTH PLACES STAYED IT WAS FINE. PERIODICALLY IT WOULD STOP. IT DIDN'T SEEM LIKE THERE WHERE ANY DETERMINING FACTORS ON WHEN (LIKE COLD OR HOT WEATHER). SO I DROVE IT LESS. ONE DAY WHEN DRIVING, GOING 46 MPH, IT JUST SHUT DOWN. THE SCREEN SHOWED 'NOT IN PARK', STARTING SYSTEM FAULT AND IT WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL. IT THEN BEGAN TO START AND STOP WHENEVER. THE GROUNDS WERE CHECKED, THE STARTER, THE ALTERNATOR, THE FUSE AND ORHERS. MY HORN WOULD SOMETIMES GO OUT FOR DAYS, UP TO WEEKS. WHEN TRYING TO START THE CAR, IT WOULD EVENTUALLY FLASH 'NORMAL MODE'. IT'S SO MANY THINGS GOING ON HERE! I FEAR ALL THE TIME WITH THIS CAR. WHEN THE TCM STARTED ACTING UP, IT STOPPED WHILE DRIVING TOO. I'M A MOTHER OF 5, I'VE HAS THIS CAR FOR 4 YEARS AS FOR THE PAST 2YRS I'VE BEEN LIVING IN FEAR OF MY CHILDREN AND I DYING IN THIS CAR. I'VE SPENT MORE MONEY BUYING RENTALS AND HAVING OTHERS ASSIST WITH TRANSPORTATION WHEN THIS CAR ACTS UP, I COULD'VE PAID HALF OF MY LAST 2YRS OFF. JUNE 2, 2017: THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT WHILE REPROGRAMMING THE BCM, BODY CONTROL MODULE, THE COMPUTER WAS WIPED AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY ATTEMPTED TO REPROGRAM IT AGAIN BUT DID NOT WORK BUT THAT THEY HAD OPENED A TICKET WITH FORD'S TECHNICAL SUPPORT. THE DEALERSHIP PROVIDED A LOANER CAR TO ME FOR THE WEEKEND. JUNE 6, 2017: THE DEALERSHIP CALLED TO TELL ME THEY STILL HAD NOT RECEIVED A FIX FROM FORD AND THAT FORD KNEW OF THE ISSUE AND HAD REPLIED THAT THEY WOULD PROVIDE AN UPDATE WITHIN 7 BUSINESS DAYS. I WAS TOLD TO KEEP THE LOANER CAR UNTIL THE WORK WAS COMPLETE. I CALLED FORD'S SERVICE LINE TO ATTEMPT TO ESCALATE THE ISSUE. I WAS PROVIDED THE CASE NUMBER, AS REFERENCED, AND TOLD TO TALK TO THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE MANAGER. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT UNFORTUNATELY THERE WAS NOTHING HIS TECHNICIANS COULD DO BUT TO WAIT FOR A FIX FROM FORD. JUNE 15, 2017: I CONTACTED FORD SERVICE LINE AGAIN AND THE CASE WAS ESCALATED TO A REGIONAL MANAGER. THEY INFORMED ME THAT FORD DOES NOT HAVE A FIX AND THAT FORD HAS NO TIMELINE FOR A FIX. THE VEHICLE IS STILL NON-FUNCTIONAL. FORD HAS TOLD ME THEY HAVE NO FIX AND NO TIMELINE FOR A FIX. THE DEALERSHIP IS WAITING ON FORD TO PROVIDE A FIX AS IT'S A COMPUTER ISSUE AND THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT DO ANYTHING TO SOLVE IT.

I WAS UNABLE TO EXIT THE ROADWAY IMMEDIATELY DUE TO TRAFFIC AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHILE APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE ENGINE OPERATING INDICATOR (A GREEN CAR WITH ARROWS POINTING FORWARD AND BACK) WAS NO LONGER ON BUT ACCESSORIES ON THE CAR WORKED PROPERLY (E.G. HEADLIGHTS, POWER STEERING, ETC) I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF THE CAR WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL ENGAGED IN AN ATTEMPT TO RESTART BUT CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF. I WAS ABLE TO EVENTUALLY PUSH THE CAR OFF OF THE ROADWAY INTO A PARKING LOT. THE CAR'S IGNITION TURNED OFF ONCE I WAS BACK IN THE VEHICLE AND THE DOOR CLOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WITH NO POWER. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND DISPLAYED A YELLOW TOOL WRENCH THAT READ 'SEE MANUAL' AND THEN WOULD CHANGE TO A YELLOW TRIANGLE WITH A RED EXCLAMATION MARK THAT READ 'STOP VEHICLE SAFELY.' HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AV FORD AND THEY HAVE BEEN NOTHING BUT UNHELPFUL. THEY STATE IT'S WATER INTRUSION TO THE CONNECTORS AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE MANUFACTURE WARRANTY AND TO FILE A CLAIM WITH MY AUTO INSURANCE COMPANY. THEY CANNOT PROVIDE ANY DIAGNOSTIC TESTING TO CONCLUDE THEIR WATER INTRUSION TO THE CONNECTOR'S THEORY. WE HAD A RAINSTORM THE DAY BEFORE I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN TO THEM. THEY ARE USING WATER INTRUSION DAMAGE AS A SCAPEGOAT TO FIXING THE REAL ISSUE WHICH IS A DEFECT TO THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. FORD DID HOWEVER PROVIDE ME A WRITTEN ESTIMATE OF REPAIR FOR $33,160.42. THIS IS ABSURD AND IS MORE THAN THE CAR IS EVEN WORTH. THESE CARS CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS ISSUE DESPITE OF THE RECALL THEY HAD FOR THIS PROBLEM. FORD FOCUS ELECTRIC VEHICLES THAT WERE NOT PART OF THE ORIGINAL RECALL IN NOVEMBER 2013 ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER BECAUSE THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN FIXED.

A MESSAGE POPPED UP ON THE DASH IN AN ORANGE TRIANGLE STATED "STOP SAFELY NOW". SINCE HE WAS IN THE CARPOOL LANE, HE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO GET THE CAR OFF TO THE SIDE. HE WAS STRANDED IN A BUSY CARPOOL LANE AND ALMOST GOT REAR END FROM BEHIND WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY CUT OFF ALL POWER AND CAME TO A STOP. THIS HAS PUT MY SON IN A GREAT DANGER SITUATION!!! HE COULD HAVE GOT REAR ENDED AND THE STALLING OF THE CAR COULD HAVE CAUSED A MULTI-CARS ACCIDENT IN THE CARPOOL LANE ON THE FREEWAY. SOMEHOW HE MANAGED TO ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AFTER TURNING THE CAR ON, OFF AND OPENING THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND CLOSING IT SEVERAL TIME. THE CAR CONTINUE TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM ON AND OFF FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. WE FINALLY GOT THE CAR INTO FORD DEALERSHIP SEPTEMBER 24, 2015. AT THE TIME OF THIS REPORT, FORD DEALERSHIP HAS NOT CALL ME WITH A CAUSE FOR THE ISSUE. I ALSO NOTED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR A SIMILAR ISSUE THAT WAS ISSUED FROM FORD FOR THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE FOR MODEL 2012 TO 2014. THE SERVICEMAN AT FORD DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT ON THAT RECALL LIST YET MY SON STILL ENCOUNTERED THE SAME ISSUE THAT WAS DESCRIBED IN THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION REPORT A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. I SPOKE WITH A LADY WHO SEEMED VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE PROBLEM, (WHICH ACTUALLY WORRIES ME BECAUSE THAT MAKES IT SEEM LIKE A COMMON ISSUE), BUT OFFERED NO SOLUTION. SHE ALMOST SEEMED SLIGHTLY "IRRITATED," AS IF IT WAS SOMETHING SHE HAD "EXPLAINED MANY TIMES BEFORE." SHE SAID "TURN THE CAR OFF FOR ABOUT 10-15 MINUTES AND LET THE COMPUTER RESET. IF THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM IT WILL STILL BE IN 'LIMP MODE,' BUT MORE LIKELY IT WAS A FLUKE AND WILL TURN OFF." I ASKED, "WHY DID THIS HAPPEN? IT'S ONLY SIX MONTHS OLD AND I WAS JUST CRUISING DOWN THE HIGHWAY." HER RESPONSE WAS 'YEAH, IT JUST HAPPENS.'" I PERSONALLY FEEL LIKE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT COULD BE WIDESPREAD AND NEEDS INVESTIGATION. IT FELT LIKE A HIGHLY DANGEROUS SITUATION, AND IS APT TO REPEAT ITSELF. FORD FOCUS ST 2014 ON HOT / HUMID DAY WHEN YOU START THE CAR UP THE ENGINE REVS WILL DROP TO <500 RPM AND THE ENGINE WILL SHUTTER OR COMPLETELY STALL. IN ADDITION, WHILE TRAVELLING AT SPEEDS 10-20 MPH WHEN THE CLUTCH GETS PUSHED IN THE ENGINE WILL HUNT IDLE FROM XRPM AND DROP TO <500RPM RAPIDLY AND THE CAR WILL SHUTTER OR COMPLETELY STALL. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY CAR DOWN THE ROAD AND HAD IT COMPLETELY STALL WHILE MOVING. IF THIS HAPPENS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD OR INTERSECTION IT IS SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS. FORD IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE, BUT ARE NOT FIXING THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM UNLESS A SPECIFIC ENGINE CODE IS STORED IN THE COMPUTER. IT HAS BEEN PROVEN THAT THE ENGINE WILL STALL IN THESE SITUATIONS AND STILL NOT THROW AN ENGINE CODE, THUS, FORD WILL NOT PERFORM THE SERVICE. *TR

CAR LIGHTS START BLINKING AND AFTER A WHILE WHOLE CAR SHUTDOWN AND DISABLED. CAR IS NOT RESPONDING REMOTE KEY. BACK DOOR IS LOCKED AND CAN'T OPEN. I TRIED TO PUT BACK TO CHARGED AND NOTHING CHANGED AT ALL. I CALLED FORD ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE AND TAKING CAR TO SERVICE TOMORROW. *TR

2014 FORD FOCUS ST WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION WHEN DECELERATING TO A STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT (APPROX 20-10 MPH), AND ENGAGING THE CLUTCH TO COAST WITH THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, THE CAR WILL ALMOST STALL (DROPS TO ABOUT ~500 RPM) AND THEN THE ENGINE "CATCHES ITSELF" AND WILL REV TO 1000-1200 RPM BEFORE SETTLING BACK TO A NORMAL 700-800 RPM IDLE. THIS HAPPENS AT RANDOM, BUT "AC/ON" ALSO INCREASES LIKELIHOOD OF OCCURRENCES. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TRIP. I STOPPED COUNTING AFTER 12 EVENTS IN THE FIRST SEVEN DAYS. THE CAR ALSO "HUNTS" FOR IT'S IDLE SPEED (WITH A WARMED ENGINE) AND VARIES FROM 700-1000 RPM, APPARENTLY AT RANDOM. THERE IS ALREADY A FORD TSB FOR THIS, TSB# 13-09-07, BUT IT CAN ONLY BE ACCOMPLISHED IF AN ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN AND THROWS A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT/CODE. DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS COULD COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AN ENGINE WHILE STOPPING NEAR OTHER MOTORISTS, LIKE THE RECENT GM IGNITION ISSUE, I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD RECALL ALL THESE VEHICLES. IT IS A 45 MINUTE REPAIR AND APPROX $8 DOLLARS IN PARTS TO REPAIR TWO "CRIMPED WIRE CONNECTIONS" IN THE MAIN WIRING HARNESS, (S132 & S133). THEY NEED TO BE SOLDERED, NOT CRIMPED (6 BARE COPPER WIRES OVERLAID TOGETHER AND CRIMPED). I HAVE BEEN TO TWO FORD DEALERSHIPS BUT THEY ARE UNDER STRICT FORD GUIDELINES NOT TO ACCOMPLISH THE TSB UNLESS THERE IS A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT/CODE. I EVEN OFFERED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR AND WAS TURNED AWAY BOTH TIMES. I BELIEVE IT IS BETTER TO ACCOMPLISH THIS TSB AND REMOVE THE CONCERN THAN TO WAIT FOR AN OWNER SAFETY ISSUE LEADING TO ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND AN ACCIDENT. I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 35 MPH WHEN MY CAR FLASHED A MESSAGE "STOP SAFELY NOW" AND THE CAR HAD LOST POWER TO THE WHEELS AND I WAS NOW JUST COASTING. I PULLED THE VEHICLE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND GET IT STARTED AGAIN. I WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET MY VEHICLE TO A SAFE PLACE HAD THIS BEEN ON A FREEWAY I WOULD HAVE SURELY BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
