2015 Ford Escape Transmission Problems

Your transmission suddenly started slipping while driving uphill, with loud whirring sounds and violent jerking, followed by metal clanking noises and loss of power. Transmission Converter Torque. I have had the car 7 months and had nothing but issues with this used car. However, since the first day of having, there was a hesitation and sputtering which I was told was due to the fuel line.

While driving 80 miles an hour on an 8 lane freeway, with the flow of high traffic-including semi commercial traffic, and my child in the car, the vehicle went into limp mode due to an overheat warning. Currently a Lemon Law Lawsuit is going on out west in reference to the Ecoboost failure which my vehicle year is included in that. The risks include engine failure and risks of fire. Currently my vehicle is missing/over heating/white smoke pouring out of my exhaust/losing coolant.

After being shut down immediately and towed to a mechanic, diagnostic is transmission out for some reason and misfires in two cylinders. Vehicle has less than 80K miles.

The shifter cable bushing broke as it was being parked in driveway and my 2015 ford escape was locked in neutral position even though the console shifter was in the park position. Luckily we noticed it roll slightly after getting out of car and were able to get back in car and place the parking brake so it would not roll into the street.

Shifter cable bushings problem! I parked in a parking space at the grocery store, put the car in park, and started rolling backwards almost hitting a customer behind me. My shifter was in park, but the dashboard said I was in reverse.

When driving at any speed greater than 15 MPH removing pressure from gas pedal causes RPM to drop from 4000 to 1000 and car jerks suddenly. When switching from 1st to 2nd gears the car jerks. When accelerating the car is slow to take off, or won't pick up speed causing near collisions.

I purchased my ford escape certified used from a dealership back in july 2016, it had approximately 26,000 miles on the vehicle and no accidents reported. In february 2017 the vehicle starts hesitating while in motion on a country street, acting as though it was about to stall out, no warning indicators came up, able to get to our driveway.

My wife was driving the vehicle and without warning, the vehicle lost power to the drivetrain. Engine was running fine without issue but upon pressing the accelerator, the engine revved but no movement. No warning or noise from the transmission of a pending issue.

In April 2021 I was stranded due to the degradation of the bushings on a cable connected to the transmission. The car was repaired. However, now in September 2021, a “transmission fault service now” error popped up while I was on the way to work.

The bushing in the shifter cable fell out or somehow was no longer attached and could not be located. This prevented the vehicle from going into any gear and stranded me until the repairs could be made.

Yesterday while driving across a 5 mile long expressway bridge, my car started jerking and the RPMs reved up but I was unable to accelerate. It kept shaking and jerking and barely getting above 30 MPH. When I was able to get over to the side, it would no longer move forward.

January of last year I was driving on the highway and the car started shaking and jerking, slipping in and out of gear. It eventually reved to 5000 RPM and wouldn't move. Once at the transmission shop they said it would be over 5,000 dollars to get another transmission from the ford dealer.

On 5/22/2021 when I was pulling into the parking space in front of my house my 2015 Ford Escape accelerated on its own, jumping the railroad tie at the edge of the parking lot and on to the front yard – fortunately the car stopped when I applied the break only less than five feet from the front of my house.

As I was driving my car about 45-50mph , it started to sputter, then the rpms shot up and I could't accelerate, lost speed. My transmission failure light came on. I pulled over and put it in park.

The problems on my 2015 Ford Escape are related to the last recall, NHTSA Recall 22V413/Safety Recall Notice 22S43. On 02/21/2025, I had stopped by a Traffic Stop Light Signal. When I tried to proceed after the lights turned green, my car would not move forward and would behave like it was in Neutral mode making a lot of noise. I called Ford Motor Company and asked for remedy, and I was told the previous recall has already expired and that there is nothing that they can do now. I got my car towed to a Ford Dealership and they have sent me a cost estimate of over $8,000.00 to get the issue fixed. I am wondering if NHTSA can make Ford Motor Company do the necessary repairs on my Ford Escape, since this problem is related to the last recall. Thank you.

While driving my 2015 Ford Escape at a speed of 35MPG and stopped at a stop sign, proceeded to turn left and car would not move. It seems to coast backward as if transmission was in neutral. I then tried to put into gear and the RPMs went up and still felt like it was in neutral. I then had it towed to a mechanic and was told that it was a total transmission failure. 5500.00 to have repair. More than what the car's book value it. We bought this car used from the Ford dealership in Ellensburg WA in 2021. It had 79k at the time. We performed a lot of maintenance on the vehicle; new tires, alignment, coolant flush, transmission flush, spark plugs, and updated the Synce software.

At 120k the transmission went bad. Dealership charged $7k to replace. We chose to replace because it was cheaper than buying a new vehicle. Dealer, told us $12k for a new motor. This is not okay!!!

The service department's inspection revealed that the torque converter had failed catastrophically and distributed metal shavings through the entire transmission hydraulic system. The service advisor noted that the transmission filter was clogged with metal fragments from the torque converter. She suggested that turning the engine off allowed enough fragments to drop out of the filter so that a small amount of fluid could get through -- enough to move the vehicle a very short distance before the problem repeated. The recommended repair is to replace the transmission and torque converter with remanufactured parts, flush the cooler and lines, install a new thermal switch, and fill the system with fresh fluid. The vehicle, with the defective transmission installed, is at the dealer awaiting parts. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or an insurance carrier; the only inspection was performed by dealer personnel as part of the trouble diagnosis. If this sudden failure had occurred on a freeway or major surface street instead of a side street with light traffic, it would probably have triggered a rear-end collision involving the Ford Escape and one or more vehicles behind it when the Escape abruptly lost drive and coasted down. The potential for injury in such an accident should be self-evident.

Purchased 08/27/2018 mileage 110047 Transmission repair of $6875.00 reporting hopefully I will be the one who achieve the threshold to get a recall for transmission. Ford is telling me I will get a 3 year warranty and free replacement if it happens again but I am spending $6875.00 hopefully this helps.

Purchased a new 2015 escape have had it in the dealer multi times for turbo replacement and the heads replaced. Was smelling coolant in the car took it to the same dealer for repair. That was over 7 weeks ago.

Driving my 2015 ford escape 1.6 turbo on interstate, started to feel like transmission was slipping but a few days later the check engine light came on code p26b7 at dealer (code p0012 at o'reilly auto parts). O'reilly says it was a generic code for "cam shaft sensor" but ford says the code p26b7 is coolant bypass valve c needs replaced costing about $500.

The dealer refused to pay for defective driveshafts. The vehicle would shake violently when decelerating. The dealership blamed faulty tires but the tires wer not the problem.

Moved shift lever to drive and applied gas. Vehicle started to go in reverse. This occurred in school parking lot and fortunately no one was hurt and there was no property damage.

I will be driving along and come to a stop for a traffic light stop sign or stop traffic and the engine will shut down. Also it will make a hesitate noise and a clunk noise. Right before it stops.

The transmission has failed and fuel propulsion. While driving on the highway with no warning it slowed down considerably, which almost caused me to be rear-ended. Yes, it's even inspected.

Transmission failed with only 76,000 miles on the car. My wife's safety was at risk due to being on a busy highway on a hill and being unable to accelerate away from danger. Transmission fault light came on the dash.

As I was driving my car started to jerk, drag backwards and stop. I put it in park in the middle of the road and turned the car completely off. It would start and drive, then jerk, try to slide backwards again then stopped.

The Transmission has failed and is available for inspection. I was concerned for my safety because one minute the car would move and then it was as if I lost all power and then boom it would throw it's self in gear and take off with no throttle response when you touched the pedal. My transmission failed on 12-22-23 not the recall that is on it already I mean completly failed just stipped working all together with no warning of a problem until 2 days later when I got it to the transmission shop 2 weeks prior my thermostat failed with no warning the transmission shop made me aware they have alot of ford escapes with failed transmissions my vehicle only had 83,794 miles at the time I have always done regular oil changes I would like to have this issue further investigated for recall issue as I have driven vehicles with over 200,000 miles and never had a transmission issue

Transmission has had issues since purchasing the vehicle 5 years ago. Upon acceleration, car jerks forward. Transmission recall for bushing came out in January 2023.

My transmission have gone out because the manufacturer got the parts in to late!

Tried to pass a car going around 55 or 60 got into the other lane to try to go around and car wouldn’t accelerate. When you hit the gas the RPM’s jump up and drop and repeat. Had to slam on brakes and get on side of road and turn the car off and sit there for a little while until it would crank and drive again.

While driving on a multi-lane road going 60mph the Transmission Fault Service Now warning popped up on my dash. Within a minute after I could feel the transmission moving into neutral, causing the RPMs to go very high, then the card would buck violently and it would go back into drive allowing me to continue to try to drive it to safety.

Was driving and came to a stop and vehicle said transmission not in park and shut off. Tried to restart and it did even attempt to turn over so I was stuck in the lane of traffic on the road.

The vehicle is showing that it is in Neutral, indicated in the VIC. However, the shifter is all the way up in the park position. Being in neutral, this allowed my daughter to start the vehicle, as soon as it was started, she took her foot off of the break and she rolled her 2015 Ford Escape into our home fence.

Transmission is not shifting correctly from reverse into drive. Also does not shift through the speeds and the RPM reaches 5000. Shifting is unpredictable and very glitchy.

Hard shift from first to second. Ford TSB claims this happens when cold. But for me it happens all the time.

Shift selector cable bushing is broken. This allows the transmission to be in neutral while the shifter is in park. The car will roll away if emergency brake is not set.

Sitting at stop light (highway) light turned green pressed accelerator .car's rpms went up car did not move. I was the at the stop light, cars approaching fast. Fortunate light traffic all cars were able to switch lanes with out any mishaps.

We were driving on a rural highway at a steady speed when with no warning our vehicle lost acceleration power and came to a dead stop in the middle of the road. When we pushed the gas pedal the rpms would you up but the car would not move. Turning the car off and back on would restore power for only a moment before we lost the ability to accelerate again.

Transmission failed at 150,000 miles. Required transmission maintenance was performed.

After backing out of my driveway in reverse, I went to put the vehicle into drive. None of the gears would then engage. I put the vehicle in park and that's where it stayed.

Recall number: 18s20. The shifter cable bushing is degraded just like the recall number I mentioned at the beginning. While I was parked, I was not able to shift manually and the dash kept reading neutral.

Shifter cable broke at transmission end. A bushing that helps connect the cable to the transmission broke. It allowed me to park the car without the transmission in park and without receiving any audible warning.

When driving at any speed greater than 15 MPH removing pressure from gas pedal causes RPM to drop from 4000 to 1000 and car jerks suddenly. Pressing gas when that occurs causes car RPM to increase while MPH does not then car jerks hard again. Can occur while driving in city or highway

Shifter cable broken

Transmission cable bushing is defective, cable pops off shifting level. This causes a serious safety issue as the the driver places the vehicle in park, but transmission is in neutral causing the vehicle to roll.

The escape hesitates when you give it the gas it actually feels like it is slowing down. Has happened several times. The service technician has not been able to replicate.

The car accelerated after slowed down to park. It surged toward a cement wall and only scraped it by me turning wheel but went between two cement pillars and knocking over a cement bench. Damage on the car and received a citation .
