The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was initially taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the fuel sensor was defective; and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure returned soon after repair. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 219,000.
Car will run fine then, all of a sudden, goes into no drive mode. Will not go forward or reverse without a lot of gas pedal pushing ( like if the e brake is on then pop and lunges forward, but there is no brakes being applied, just gas.) Now car is sitting because mechanic pulled code P0A7C and said can't drive until fixed.
THE GAS PEDAL STICKS AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE. WHEN IT FINALLY DOES ACCELERATE IT IS VERY QUICKLY WHICH CAN SEND YOU INTO TRAFFIC. THIS CAN HAPPEN ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING. IT CAN HAPPEN FROM A COMPLETE STOP AT AN INTERSECTION, IT CAN ALSO HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN YOU GO AGAIN TO PRESS THE GAS, NOTHING WILL HAPPEN. THE GAS PEDAL WILL THEN SUDDENLY PRESS DOWN VERY QUICKLY
WHEN I WILL DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, I WILL GET MASTER VEHICLE ELECTRICAL HAZARD WARNING SIGN ON MY DASHBOARD, A "STOP SAFELY NOW" MESSAGE, AND MY VEHICLE ENGINE WILL INSTANTLY SHUT OFF. THIS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE- FIRST TIME, I WAS DRIVING FROM CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO TO ST. LOUIS, MO AND PULLED OFF FROM THE HIGHWAY AND STOPPED AT THE LIGHT WHEN THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, AND WON'T START BACK UP UNTIL A FEW HOURS LATER. THE SECOND TIME I WAS DRIVING FROM ST. LOUIS, MO TO CREVE COEUR, MO. DURING THAT TIME I WAS DRIVING DOWNHILL AND WAS BRAKING WHEN I GOT THE SAME WARNING LIGHT AND MESSAGE, AND MY CAR ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. BOTH OF THESE INCIDENTS HAPPENED WITHIN THE SAME MONTH OF JULY OF 2019.
GAS PEDAL STICKS, I HAVE TO PRSS IT TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER FOR ACCELERATION, IT WON'T LET ME EXCELERATE OVER 5 MILES AND HOUR AND WILL COAST, IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BUT THEN SEEMS TO RETURN TO NORMAL, HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES THIS WINTER.
THE CAR COMES TO A STALL ON THE INTERSTATE I-75 LOST TRACTION SHUTDOW THE COMBUSTION ENGINE AND A WARNING COMES UP (STOP SAFELY NOW) . THE SAME HAPPEN 8 TIMES IN A MONTH LOCALY IN WESTON. ALL THE TIMES I TURNED OFF THE KEY AND RESTARD. IT SEEMS THE SAME PROBLEM AS PER RECAL 14V-526 OR 14V526000, LOCAL DEALER DOES NOT RECOGNIZE ANY PROBLEM OR RECAL (SAWGRASS FORD)
SOMETIMES WHEN I PUSH ON THE GAS PEDAL...IT JUST WON'T DEPRESS AND I AM PUSHING ON THE PEDAL WITH MY FOOT - BUT I CAN'T MAKE THE CAR GO, AND THE PEDAL SEEMS 'STUCK'...IT HAS LED TO A FEW DANGEROUS SITUATIONS WHERE I TRIED TO MERGE ONTO A HIGHWAY AND PULLED OUT - BUT THEN COULD NOT GET THE GAS PEDAL TO DEPRESS! EVENTUALLY AFTER 3-10 SECONDS THE PEDAL WILL DEPRESS AND I CAN GET THE CAR TO MOVE BUT I NEVER REALLY KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. SOMETIMES IT SEEMS TO BE 'STUCK' WORSE THAN OTHERS.... I CAN TELL IT HAPPENS MORE OFTEN AS THE AIR GETS COLDER - IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION AND I USED TO THINK IT WAS BECAUSE I HAD A FLOOR MAT THAT I WAS CERTAIN WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM AND GETTING IN THE WAY- BUT WHEN I REMOVED THE FLOOR MAT THE ISSUE STILL PERSISTED. BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED TO FLOOR WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 70 MILES PER HOUR. APPLIED BRAKES AND COASTED TO SIDE OF ROAD. THEN CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION POWER. A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED.
WHEN YOU ARE STOPPED AND IDLING THE CAR, IT STALLS OUT. IT STALLS WHEN IDLING IN GEAR, BUT NOT WHEN IN THE PARK POSITION. IF YOU SLOW DOWN AT A LIGHT OR FOR TRAFFIC OBSTACLES, IT SOMETIMES STALLS BEFORE YOU ACTUALLY STOP. AS LONG AS I HAVE NO STOP LIGHTS OR OTHER OBSTACLES TO SLOW ME DOWN I'M FINE. IT MOSTLY HAPPENS ON CITY STREETS. SOMETIMES BUT NOT ALWAYS IT SEEMS TO BUCK A LITTLE. I AM FEMALE AND KNOW LITTLE ABOUT CARS, MY HUSBAND TOOK CARE OF EVERYTHING, THIS WAS HIS VEHICLE, BUT HE PASSED AWAY LAST MONTH AFTER A LONG ILLNESS. I DID HOPE IT WAS THE FUEL FILTER, SO I HAD THAT REPLACED A FEW DAYS AGO. IT DID NOT HELP. WHEN THIS OCCURS NONE OF THE MANY WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH COME ON, NOR DO THEY COME ON OR STAY ON OTHER THAN WHEN YOU FIRST START THE CAR. THIS IS A SITUATION THAT SCARES ME, BUT AT PRESENT, IT IS MY ONLY TRANSPORTATION, AND THERE ARE MANY THINGS REQUIRED OF ME, RELATING TO MY HUSBAND"S DEATH. I'VE READ ALL THE ISSUES OF STALLING IN MANY FORDS BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER 2008, IN JUST ABOUT EVERY MODEL INCLUDING THE ESCAPE. I BELIEVE THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY CAR. NO DOCUMENTATION, NO ACCIDENTS YET.... THE STALLING HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ALMOST A MONTH. MONTH.
WHILE IDLING THE WARNING MESSAGE "STOP VEHICLE SAFLEY" APPEARED AND THE CAR WENT INTO "LIMP" MODE. AFTER CUTTING ENGINE OFF TO RESET, THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AGAIN. AFTER A SHORT TIME OF IDLING AGAIN, THE VEHICLE GAVE THE SAME WARNING MESSAGE. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN A SHORT DISTANCE TO A SAFE PARKING AREA IN "LIMP" MODE. THE VEHICLE THEN HAD TO BE TOWED AND ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY REPLACED.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET, THE RED TRIANGLE LIGHT CAME ON, WITH A WARNING TO "STOP NOW, PULL OVER." LUCKILY I WAS ALREADY DRIVING SLOWLY AND I STOPPED SAFELY. THE ENGINE THEN DIED. I TRIED RESTARTING, BUT THE RED TRIANGLE CAME BACK ON, AND THE ENGINE DIED AGAIN. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A DEAD HYBRID BATTERY, WITH A REPLACEMENT COST $12,000. UNFORTUNATELY, THE 8-YR BATTERY WARRANTY EXPIRED JUST A FEW MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS. I ASKED ABOUT RECALL 14S19, WHICH SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER AND FORD CORP CUSTOMER SERVICE BOTH SAID MY SPECIFIC VIN WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. ABOUT 18 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS, I HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE, WITH THE RED TRIANGLE WARNING LIGHT COMING ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE SAME DEALER. THEIR INITIAL DIAGNOSIS WAS A DEAD HYBRID BATTERY, WHICH WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE NEXT DAY, THE DEALER CALLED BACK TO SAY THEY HAD DISCUSSED THE PROBLEM WITH FORD CORPORATION, AND THEY CHANGED THE DIAGNOSIS. THEY REPLACED THE "IGNITION SWITCH AND HOUSING" (NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY) FOR $743. THE CAR RAN OK UNTIL THE PROBLEM RECURRED THIS MONTH. *TR
IDLES VERY ROUGH AT STOPS . MUST HOLD BRAKE AND GAS AT SAME TIME TO KEEP ENGINE FROM DIEING .DANGER IS POSSIBLE HITTING SLIPPING OFF BRAKE AND HITTING GAS PEDAL CAUSING ACCIDENT. ..
IN COLD WEATHER THE GAS PEDAL STICKS, I HAVE TO PUSH IT TWICE, AFTER 50 KM WHEN THE ENGINE IS WARM IT IS NOT SO BAD. MY SON IS SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR SO I HAD TO BUY HIM ANOTHER ONE, I STILL DRIVE THE ESCAPE.
WHILE SITTING IN A DRIVE THRU THE GAS PEDAL WENT FLAT TO THE FLOOR. HAD TOWED TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THROTTLE CABLE BROKE.NEEDED REPLACED AND THROTTLE BODY,INJECTORS CLEANED. COST APPROXIMATELY $800.00. LOOKED ON INTERNET AND FOUND IT TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. CALLED DEALER AND NO HELP. CALLED FORD CORPORATE AND THEY TOOK INFORMATION BUT WOULD NOT OFFER ANY HELP. IF THIS HAD BROKE WHILE DRIVING WE AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD COULD OF BEEN INJURED OR KILLED. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY RECALLED IN MY OPINION. ALSO THIS FIX IS NO GUARANTEE IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. NICE THOUGHT TO HAVE WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC.
UPON EXITING MY VEHICLE IN A PARKING LOT AND APPROACHING THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR I OBSERVED A DRIPPING OF LIQUID COMING FROM THE AREA IN FRONT OF AND TOWARD THE INSIDE OF THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE. I FELT IT WAS GASOLINE AND IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED A LOCAL DEALER TO GET A DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. THE RESULT WAS THAT THE FUEL TANK ON MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE WAS LEAKING. AFTER THE DEALER SERVICE INVESTIGATION IT WAS REPORTED THAT IT CAME FROM AN AREA ON THE SIDE WALL OF THE TANK AND WAS RUST THROUGH. THE AREA DID NOT APPEAR TO HAVE PROPER COATING ON IT.
DRIVING THE VEHICLE ABOUT 40 MILES PER HOUR AND VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION OR THROTTLE RESPONSE. VEHICLE COASTED TO A STOP AND ENGINE STOPPED. CAR RESTARTED WITHOUT INCIDENT. SEEMS TO BE VERY SIMILAR TO OTHER REPORTED ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY ISSUES WITH OTHER FORDS.

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V526000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
PURCHASED MY CAR IN AUGUST 2008, NOTICE IN OCT, 2008 GAS PEDAL KEPT STICKING. LITTLE HARD TO ACCELERATE, UNLESS YOU PRESS DOWN HARD. MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER MANUFACTURER WARRANTY, SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE REPLACED/ FIXED. THEN IN OCT 2013 MY GAS PEDAL BROKE, WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR (WITHOUT ACCELERATION) TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. NOW IN FEB 2015, MY GAS PEDAL IS STICKING AGAIN, TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE FIX. THEY TOLD ME THAT MY ISSUES WITH THE GAS PEDAL WAS NOT RELATED. *TR
WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE ONTO THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLES GAS PEDAL FREEZES. I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE. I CONTINUALLY TAPPED ON THE PEDAL AND EVENTUALLY HAD TO GO UNDER THE VEHICLE HOOD TO TUG ON THROTTLE CABLE. THIS FREED THE STUCK PEDAL. I CALLED THE FORD MOTOR CO. AND REPORTED THIS INCIDENT IN 2012. THEY SAID THAT IT WAS NOT AN ISSUE AND TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. OVER THE PAST YEAR OR SO I HAVE HAD INTERMITTENT ISSUES ONLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS FIRST STARTED. IT HAS RECENTLY BECOME A BIGGER ISSUE AS OF 12/8/14 AS MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHILE MERGING INTO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AND THE VEHICLE AGAIN WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I MET HER TUGGED ON THE THROTTLE CABLE AND THE PEDAL BECAME FREE AGAIN. I DROVE TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION TO CHECK AGAIN UNDER THE HOOD AND AS I LEFT THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED, A STUCK PEDAL. WHILE DRIVING I HAD TO HOLD ONE FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND ONE ON THE GAS TO KEEP THE PEDAL FROM LOCKING IN THE CLOSED POSITION. THIS IS NOT A SAFE FORM OF DRIVING AND BELIEVE THERE IN A DESIGN ISSUE WITH FORD MOTOR CO. THROTTLE. THE FORD COMPANY AGAIN SAID THEIR ENGINEERS SAYS THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE AND TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AT MY EXPENSE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE IN TRAFFIC. AFTER YEARS (SINCE EARLY ON IN THE OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE PURCHASED NEW FROM THE DEALER) OF INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH MY GAS PEDAL STICKING (MOSTLY IN COLDER WEATHER), THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT WAS BY FAR THE WORST AND, LIKE MANY OTHER 2008 FORD ESCAPE OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE, I AM VERY LUCKY THAT IT OCCURRED IN AN AREA WHERE I WAS NOT IN IMMEDIATE DANGER FROM OTHER CARS. I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL TO MOVE FORWARD THE PEDAL STARTED TO RESPOND THEN FELL TO THE FLOOR WITH NO FURTHER RESPONSE. THERE WAS NO POWER TO MOVE FORWARD AND NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. I LIFTED THE PEDAL TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS NOT STUCK ON ANYTHING AND IT JUST FELL LIMPLY BACK TO THE FLOOR. I MANIPULATED THE ARM UNDER THE PEDAL WITH MY HAND UNTIL IT LOOSENED UP AND THE PEDAL WAS ABLE TO ENGAGE AGAIN. I THEN DROVE TO MY DESTINATION WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED AND IF MY CAR DOES NOT BECOME PART OF THE "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM," I AM SURE THAT IT WILL NOT BE THE LAST. THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION OF ALLEGED THROTTLE BODY FAILURES IN 2005-2012 FORD ESCAPE VEHICLES SHARING THE SAME OR SUBSTANTIALLY SIMILAR PART, DID NOT RESULT IN ENOUGH VEHICLES BEING INCLUDED IN THE RESULTING FORD "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM," WHICH ONLY INCLUDED CARS FROM 2009-2012, WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED MANY MORE CARS. THE COMPLAINT FORUMS ARE FILLED WITH MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE FROM AT LEAST 2008 FORD ESCAPE OWNERS. TO NOT INCLUDE EVERYONE FROM THE INITIAL INVESTIGATION IS DOING A DISSERVICE AND IT WILL BE SAD DAY WHEN THE REST OF THE CAR OWNERS ARE INCLUDED ONLY BECAUSE SOMEBODY HAS DIED! *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS NORMAL. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V526000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
AT OUTDOOR TEMPERATURES BELOW 20 DEGREES F THE FUEL TANK IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FILL. AT 0 DEGREES F IT WILL TAKE OVER 30 MINUTES TO FILL. I AM CONCERNED THAT AT SOME POINT IT WILL NOT TAKE ANY FUEL AT ALL. *TR

WHEN THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE GETS COLD, THE GAS PEDAL ON MY '08 ESCAPE WILL STICK IN PLACE AND WILL NOT PRESS DOWN. IF I JIGGLE IT OR JAM IT DOWN HARD I AM ABLE TO MAKE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATE. THE ISSUE IS VERY PROMINENT WHEN IT'S COLD OUT AND THE CAR HASN'T BEEN RAN FOR A WHILE. THE GAS PEDAL WILL JAM BOTH WHEN STOPPED AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AT HIGHER SPEEDS. IT CAN BE DANGEROUS IN PARKING LOT SITUATIONS WHEN TRYING TO SLOWLY MANEUVER OUT OF A SPACE OR AROUND BLIND CORNERS, AND THE GAS PEDAL STICKS, CAUSING THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD WITHOUT MUCH CONTROL. IT'S ALSO DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING SINCE YOU MAY BE TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP BUT ARE UNABLE TO DUE TO THE GAS PEDAL STICKING. THIS CAN CAUSE UNSUSPECTING DRIVERS TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES, AS THEY WERE ASSUMING THAT YOU WERE GOING TO MOVE FORWARD IN TRAFFIC BUT THE CAR IS UNABLE TO ADVANCE. IT HAS PROVEN TO BE VERY DANGEROUS IN SNOWY SITUATIONS AND UNPLOWED ROADS AND DRIVEWAYS. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE PEDAL WILL STICK AND THEN SUDDENLY LURCH FORWARD, CAUSING THE CAR TO SLIDE AROUND. TRYING TO DRIVE UP A SNOWY SLOPE FROM A STOP IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE, SINCE THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION CAUSES YOU TO SPIN OUT IN THE SNOW RATHER THAN ALLOWING YOU TO ADVANCE SLOWLY. I HAVE READ THAT CLEANING THE THROTTLE BODY IS AN EFFECTIVE FIX FOR THIS ISSUE BUT HAVEN'T YET TRIED IT. *TR
ON 1 -28- 2014 I TRIED TO MASH GAS PEDAL DOWN IT WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING I KEPT PRESSING ON IT I WENT DOWN AND ACCELERATED ALMOST HIT FENCE GOT END LANE TRIED GIVE IT GAS IT WAS REALLY SLUGGISH ALMOST GET HIT BYTRUCK THEN IT STARTED WORKING SLUGGISH. ON 1-29 14 IT DID IT AGAIN BUT THIS TIME I COULDN'T GET IT TO PRESS DOWN WITHOUT PRESSING REALLY HARD ON PEDAL WHEN I STOPPED AT STOP LIGHT IT WOULD NOT PRESS DOWN. HAD SIT FOR ABOUT FIVE MINUTES ALMOST GOT HIT IN BACK END AFTER PRESSING HARD ON PEDAL IT FINALLY WENT DOWN BUT I HAD PRESS HARD ON PEDAL. THIS IS A SERIOUS SITUATION. U HAVE NO WARNING. PLEASE MAKE FORD RECALL THIS . IM TERRIFIED. ITS DANGEROUS FOR ME MY SON AND OTHER DRIVERS. *TR
WHILE STOPPED AT INTERSECTIONS WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WILL STALL OUT OR WHEN ACCELERATING FROM THROUGH THE INTERSECTION IT WILL STALL OUT. *TR
ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS UPON ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ON AND OFF FOR THE LAST SIX MONTHS, BUT HAS WORSENED. LAST INCIDENT (12/14/13) PEDAL COMPLETELY STUCK TO FLOOR. CONTACTED DEALER AND WAS ADVISED OF A $70 DIAGNOSTIC FEE AND DEDUCTIBLE. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT FROM AUGUST 2011 TO AUGUST 2013 EXPERIENCED THREE INCIDENTS OF STEERING COLUMN LOCKING, COLUMN DID NOT RESPOND TO KEYS, KEYS WOULD NOT UNLOCK DOORS MANUALLY OR WITH CLICKER, AND IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NOT TURN WHEN KEY IS INSERTED. DEALER REPLACED STEERING COLUMN (2011), BUT PROBLEM RETURNED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITHIN TWO YEARS. ON LAST TWO VISITS TO DEALER REGARDING IGNITION PROBLEM - DEALER COULD NOT VERIFY PROBLEM EXISTED AND DEEMED THE BATTERY AS PROBLEM. DEALER REPLACED MY NEWLY INSTALLED BATTERY (LESS THAN A YEAR OLD) WITH THEIR BATTERY WITHOUT MY CONSENT AND REQUIRED ME TO PAY FOR UNAPPROVED BATTERY - WHICH I HAD THEM TO REMOVE, AND REINSTALL MY ORIGINAL BATTERY THAT WORKED FINE. CALLED ON FORD DEALER ON 12/16/13 REGARDING INCIDENT OF PEDAL STICKING, AND RECEIVED HEAD WRENCHING RESPONSE. WAS INFORMED THAT MY CAR WAS NOT ON THE LIST FOR RECALLS EVENTHOUGH FORD JUST PAID A HEFTY $17+ MILLION FINE FOR NOT RECALLING THESE FORDS FOR STICKING GAS PEDALS! *TR
THE ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL ON MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE. BEFORE THE ACCELERATOR WOULD HESITATE A LITTLE BIT AND THAN GO. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT FORD NEED TO FIX ASAP. *TR
IT WAS APPROXIMATELY 45 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND I WAS DRIVING DOWN A ROAD AT THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT OF 50 MPH AND TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE THROTTLE. I ATTEMPTED TO GET BACK UP TO SPEED AND THE THROTTLE WAS LOCKED SHUT AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL. THIS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY UNTIL THE ENGINE WARMED UP. IT HAS CONTINUED INTERMITTENTLY SINCE THAT TIME AND YESTERDAY WAS SO SEVERE, I COULD NOT MOVE FROM A STOP SIGN. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME A TOTAL OF $385 TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. NOW I SEE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL AND I AM FEELING VERY RIPPED OFF. FORD SHOULD PAY FOR THIS MANUFACTURING/DESIGN PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE EXITING A STATE ROUTE ON A OFF RAMP I WAS APPLYING BRAKES ON A TURN. THE BRAKE LIGHT, ABS LIGHT, CHECK BRAKES WARNING CAME ON AND I LOST ALL OF MY BRAKES. FAULT CODES THAT ARE SETTING ARE U2023,C1526,C1477. FORD IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND TO REPAIR IT YOU MUST REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER $850 AND ABS PUMP ASSEMBLY $3500. *TR
THE GAS PEDAL STICKS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS MOST LIKELY THE THROTTLE BODY. IT IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND I FEAR IT MAY LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT IF IT IS NOT REPAIRED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE THIS MORNING THE GAS PEDAL GOT STUCK AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS OFTEN IN COLD WEATHER AND OCCOURS WHEN DURRING THE FIRST START OF THE DAY. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY ROLL INTO AN ADJACENT PARKING AREA WHERE AFTER ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO WARM UP AND TESTING THE GAS PEDAL A FEW TIMES IT RESUMED NORMAL OPERATIONS AFTER ABOUT FIFTEEN MINS. IF YOU GOOGLE GAS PEDAL STUCK ON COLD MORNINGS..FORD ESCAPE 2008 QUITE A FEW COMPLAINTS COME UP. THIS NEEDS ATTENTION AS IT IS VERY DANGEROUS.
DRIVING HOME, CAME TO A STOP (RED LIGHT) WHEN IT WAS TIME TO GO I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL AND MY TRUCK WOULDN'T MOVED, THEN I LET GO OF PEDAL AND DID IT AGAIN AND MY TRUCK JOLTED AND STARTED MOVING. AS I WAS DRIVING AND TRYING TO INCREASE SPEED MY TRUCK WOULD SHIFT..IF I TRIED TO PASS 30 MPH IT FELT LIKE IT WAS DECREASING. EVERY TIME I CAME TO A FULL STOP IT KEPT REPEATING THE SAME SITUATION, PRESS GAS PEDAL AND NO MOVEMENT. IT WAS PRETTY SCARY BECAUSE HERE IN CALIFORNIA THERE ARE FAST DRIVERS AND I WAS AFRAID THAT IF MY CAR WOULDN'T GO ANY FASTER I WOULD BE HIT, AND I HAD MY SON AND NEPHEW IN THE CAR. THIS IS VERY DISAPPOINTING, NEVER DID I EVER HAVE ISSUES WITH FORD TIL NOW AND WHAT MAKES IT WORSE THERE ARE NO WARNINGS IT JUST HAPPENS. NOW ITS COSTING MORE THEN $300 DOLLARS TO FIX THIS. BUT WHO IS TO SAY THAT AFTER I SPEND ALL THAT MONEY THIS WONT HAPPEN AGAIN. I SHOULD BE DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT HASN'T BEEN RECALLED AND THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE CONTACTED ME ABOUT THIS AND FIXED IT. *TR
I NOTICED THAT ON COLD MORNINGS THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT DEPRESS UNTIL A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF FORCE WOULD BE EXERTED ON THE PEDAL. SOMETIMES YOU WOULD HAVE TO STOMP ON THE GAS TO GET IT FREE. SOMETIMES A QUICK PRESS-RELEASE-PRESS AGAIN WOULD FREE THE GAS PEDAL. AS THE ENGINED WARMED THE PROBLEM WOULD DECREASE. ON OCCASIONS I WOULD STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND ROLL HALFWAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION BEFORE I COULD GET THE PEDAL FREE. DEALER INDICATED THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG ALTHOUGH I AM AWARE OF 1 OTHER FORD ESCAPE AND 2 MAZDA TRIBUTES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
MY THIRD FORD AND FUEL TANK STRAPS HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO IT BEING ROTTED. *TR
A BINDING THROTTLE BODY CAUSES THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO STICK, WHICH RESULTS IN A SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED STALL IN TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS HEART. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WHEN HE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE GAS PEDAL IT REMAINED STUCK. THE DEALER WAS ADVISED AND WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM BE CLEANED ONCE EVERY 20,000 MILES. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE THEY FLUSHED THE FUEL SYSTEM. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2008 FORD ESCAPE XLT WHEN THE ACCELERATOR BECAME HARD TO PRESS. SHE ATTEMPTED TO VARY THE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR BUT IT WAS STILL HARD TO PRESS. SHE THEN PRESSED HARDER ON THE ACCELERATOR AND IT DROPPED TO THE FIRE WALL AND DID NOT RETURN TO ITS NORMAL POSITION. SHE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OFF OF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT INCIDENT. I CAME OUT TO THE LOCATION WHERE SHE WAS, I GOT INTO THE CAR AND I HAD TO USE THE TIP OF MY SHOE SEVERAL TIMES TO PULL THE ACCELERATOR UP BEFORE IT WOULD STAY IN ITS NORMAL POSITION. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE ACCELERATOR TO WORK NORMALLY AFTER THIS. THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED ONE OTHER TIME WHILE DRIVING. HOWEVER, A SIMILAR PROBLEM TO THIS OCCURS SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR BECOMES HARD TO PRESS I TAP ON THE ACCELERATOR (BEFORE APPLYING NORMAL PRESS) AND I AM ABLE TO ACCELERATE NORMALLY. *TR
WAS DRIVING 2008 ESCAPE HYBRID ON HIGHWAY YESTERDAY @ 55MPH, ATTEMPTED TO PASS SLOWER VEHICLE BY SWITCHING LANES AND ACCELERATING. ACCELERATOR STUCK AND CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE DESPITE MY ATTEMPTS TO STOP IT. I HAD TO DRIVE OFF THE ROAD WHILE SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE REACHED SPEED OF 80 + MPH BEFORE ACCELERATOR BECAME UNSTUCK. HEARD A "POP" SIMILAR TO THE SOUND OF A CAR HOOD POPPING OPEN ONCE ACCELERATOR BECAME UNSTUCK. CAR WAS THEN DRIVABLE, BUT I DID NOT DRIVE OVER 35 MPH AFTER THAT OUT OF FEAR THAT CAR WOULD AGAIN BECOME UNCONTROLLABLE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP OUT OF FEAR OF DRIVING IT. CURRENTLY BEING EXAMINED BY DEALERSHIP AND PROBLEM HAS NOT YET BEEN DIAGNOSED. *TR

SATURDAY NIGHT OCTOBER 11TH. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A SHOPPING CENTER VERY CLOSE TO MY HOME AND UPON COMING OUT OF THE STORE THE ACCELERATOR (OR PEDAL) FELL TO THE FLOOR. AAA WAS CALLED AND THEY WERE ABLE TO TEMPORARY REPAIR TO THE PEDAL, WE DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO OUR HOME AND WE DID NOT USE THE VEHICLE UNTIL WE TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, AND AFTER ANALYZE IT, IT WAS FOUND THAT IT WAS A "DEFECTIVE CABLE ASSEMBLY" AND A PART HAD TO BE ORDERED AND IS AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP WILL BE REPAIR TOMORROW. THIS IS SEVERE AND SAFETY SITUATION IF WE WERE ON THE ROAD AT THE MOMENT THAT HAPPENED IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A DEAD OR VERY SERIOUS INJURIES TO US AND OTHERS. *TR
SLOSHING SOUND OF FUEL FROM REAR END WHILE MAKING TURNS, BRAKING OR ACCELERATING. IN MOST CASES MAKES SOUND MORE THAN A HALF FULL. CAR HAS A HARDER TIME MAKING TURNS.
