The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact stated that the hatchback of the vehicle became inoperable. The contact stated that the rear trunk door intermittently failed to open when the contact attempted to operate the rear trunk. The contact had to push up on the hatchback to move it upward with great force. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure a case was opened. The contact was referred to NHSTA Hotline for further assistance The approximate failure mileage was 176,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the rear trunk door would intermittently fail to open and on other occasions would not stay closed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who inspected the vehicle but no service was performed. After retrieving the vehicle, the contact discovered that the doors on the vehicle could no longer be opened using the key fob or while using the key manually. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 68,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A POWER LIFTGATE FOOT ACTIVATED FEATURE. WHILE THE LIFTGATE WAS OPENED, THE CONTACT REACHED INTO THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WITH HIS LEG IN AN OUTWARD POSITION. A CHIME SOUNDED ONLY AS THE LIFTGATE WAS IN MOTION. THE MOVEMENT OF THE LEG ALERTED THE LIFTGATE TO ACTIVATE. THE CONTACT'S BODY PREVENTED THE DOOR FROM CLOSING COMPLETELY; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT'S LEFT SHOULDER AND CHEST WERE PARTIALLY PINNED IN NEAR THE TAIL LIGHT AREA. THE LIFTGATE REVERSE SENSOR DID NOT ACTIVATE. THE LIFTGATE MANUAL MECHANISM WAS ENGAGED NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE OPERATING IN REVERSE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE LIFTGATE MOTOR WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000. UPDATED 09/28/16*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE LIFT GATE SHOULD CHIME BEFORE IT BEGAN TO MOVE. THERE SHOULD ALSO BE AN OPTION TO KEEP THE DOOR LOCKED IN THE RAISED POSITION. *JS
