Your engine temperature gauge climbed quickly and the check engine light came on while driving. You may have noticed the engine losing power, hesitating, and running rough during acceleration due to poor lubrication. Coolant may have mixed with your engine oil, creating a milky sludge that prevents proper lubrication and causes overheating. The fix will likely involve diagnosing the source of coolant contamination (possibly the internal water pump), flushing the contaminated oil, and repairing or replacing the faulty component.

Your 2.0L EcoBoost engine experienced coolant leaking into the cylinder heads, which caused complete engine failure. You may have noticed the engine wouldn't start reliably, unusual diesel-like exhaust smell, and a check engine light. The dealership determined your engine needs to be completely replaced.

Your car may experience coolant leaking into the engine, which can cause overheating and engine damage if not addressed. This typically happens due to a failure in the cooling system seals or gaskets. You should have a mechanic inspect your cooling system and replace any faulty seals or gaskets to prevent further coolant loss.

Long block repair due to coolant instrusion which is a known issue with this ford edge model. Dealership is quoting me $8468.16 to replace. Per their diagnosis they found coolant intrusion in cylinder 1 combustion chamber. TSB states replace long block assembly and retest. I was driving the car and it started feeling like it was skipping. I immediately returned home as I had just left the house and parked it. When I parked the check engine light came on. My husband noticed blowback in the oil and we called a tow truck driver to tow the vehicle to the dealership.

There was a constant burning smell off and on over the last year coming from under the hood. Some days it was stronger than others. Engine compartment was hot when hood was opened. Would the engine catch fire? The coolant level would drop/leak randomly causing car to sputter or vibrate while sitting at traffic lights, etc... Traffic behind me was ready to move, but my car wasn't moving at the normal rate. It wasn't safe. Warning lights would come on, but not always. Sometimes it would throw a code and sometimes it wouldn't. For the first several months, we didn't know what exactly was going on with the vehicle. Unfortunately these cars are still being sold with this problem. We bought one of them from a dealership and got stuck paying for a new engine. Clearly, someone ditched this car before the engine replacement became their problem. We aren't the only ones out there. Contacted Ford dealership for remedy or help with no luck. We went to our local mechanic for help and they gave a quote for engine replacement that was reasonable. Was told engine needed to be replaced for $6,500. Since, we had recently bought the car, we went ahead with replacement but were sick about it.

The contact's mother owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact performed a minor service on the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle was idling roughly, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact replaced the spark plugs and the valve cover gasket; however, the vehicle was still idling roughly with a misfire coming from cylinder #3. The contact checked the spark plug in cylinder #3 and became aware that engine oil had fouled the plug. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming engine oil, and 1 quart of oil was added after an oil change. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the pistons and piston rings had damaged the cylinders, and recommended that the engine be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.

Recently my Check Engine Light came on and I had the vehicle diagnosed with a local repair shop. The code P0301:00-EC was pulled from the vehicles scan. Upon further research this code is linked to TSA 19-2208 issued 06/27/2019. Ford knew that the engine design was flawed and only issued a TSA bulletin. This issue could cause catastrophic engine failure and fire. This issue is not a maintenance issue but a serious flaw from the manufacturer. There is also a class action lawsuit, Miller, et al. vs. Ford Motor Company - Case No: [XXX] filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California. I am hoping that you will take interest in this, as there are probably many 2nd or 3rd owners of these vehicles that are unaware of the severity of the engine flaw. My vehicle has been at the Robinson Ford in Baton Rouge LA since 06/17/2025, and the cost of the new engine is 9600.00. I'm thankful that driving the vehicle from NC to LA no incidents occurred and I was able to have the issue diagnosed before there was. My Vehicles Engine had a Cylinder #2 Misfire that was a result of Coolant Intrusion. This issue seems to be a known issue and Ford did correct for post 2019 vehicles, but I had to pay over $8,000 in repairs to get a new motor because that Coolant Intrusion issue ruins motors. I don't understand why I am responsible for this egregious problem Ford never corrected for 2015-2019 Ford Edge Owners. In no way should a person be responsible for over $8,000.00 in repairs on a vehicle that failed from a Manufacturing defect/error/issue. This expense is now a financial burden on not only myself but my family. I had to take a personal loan out to cover the cost. Certainly unfair. I have owned this car since it was brand new. only owner and it's been wonderful until this issue has appeared. i'm begging the NHTSA to force Ford to reimburse owners of these repairs. I did not do anything by driving my vehicle to cause this issue when there is a identified flaw. Thank you

Under normal driving conditions, engine had severe misfires, flashing check engine light, and vehicle had to be pulled to side of highway. My 2015 Ford Engine recently had engine failure. Came out of the blue. Had just undergone recall at ford dealership in Norwood, MA weeks before failure. Had just received inspection sticker weeks before failure. No warning lights came on. Suddenly started having white gray smoke coming from exhaust. Car not running properly. Smell from engine. Spoke with mechanic who said to have it towed not to drive it. Diagnosed with engine failure. Has approximately 103,000 miles on it. One owner. Routine maintenance. No issues with the car. Just noticed there is a recall in 2021-2022 ford edges with 2.7 choose engine. Sounds like my car. I have read and heard from several mechanics that this is a known problem with the Edge in particular. Would be interested in some feedback. This is a devastating expense and if this is a common theme I think Ford should be held responsible. I would appreciate a response. Thank you.

coolant intrusion in cylinders on the engine 2.7 ecoboost Ford made a bad engineering decision on the headers and block to allow coolant to flow through the gaskets to get to the other side of the cylinder. Now with a vehicle only 98K miles I'm expected to pay more than the car is worth to get it fixed or be out of a vehicle or find a scrape yard or someone to buy it off of me just to save some money. I can't trust any American auto makers with my money going forward. Auto shop Notes - The vehicle has the history code of P0316- misfire detected in the first 1,000 revolutions and P0304- Cylinder four misfire detected. The active counters was checked and it is steady on four but the other cylinders will drop random. The vehicle will smoke coolant out of the tailpipe also. This all indicates the failure of the head and/or head gasket and possible the block. This engine is known for head and block issues. It is advised to replace the engine only, repairs is not recommended do to the severe condition on the engine and the known concerns.

My car only has 73,367 miles on it and was experiencing a misfire on #4 cylinder. My Ford dealer ran a test on it and said coolant from the 2.0 EcoBoost is leaking into the cylinder and it will burn up the engine which could lock up on me while driving. This is a known defect, but Ford has not done a recall on it. My dealer told me they have heard Ford Co helping some people with the replacement cost, so why won't they help everyone? It is ridiculous to have to get a whole new engine (which is what our dealer is suggesting) when my car has such low mileage. Is there anyone I could reach out to for help getting this defect recalled and fixed? Fortunately, I found about this danger before I drove it too long and the engine froze up on my while driving. We are senior citizens on a low fixed income and cannot afford a new car. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Expenses where paid out of pocket twice for the same reasons but now in July 2023 I received a recall letter 22N12 about this problem and after getting another diagnosis from the dealership I've been advised that a new engine is needed and that ford will not cover any expenses even after the recall 22N12 stating that the problems I'm having with my car are the same diagnosis the dealership gave me months ago but now this recall for some reason is not available even thou is was a manufacturer issue. Thanks but this issue put my family at risk multiple times while operating the vehicle after a recall was created and never fixed by ford.

This poses a risk because oil is spilled onto the ground creating an environmental and slip hazard. The issue has been verified by two different Ford dealers in my area. They both have replaced the oil pan for me and stated that it would probably leak again. Since the last replacement, it has began leaking and I have not bothers to pay for it again because I have been hoping that it would become a recall. The car's ENTIRE ENGINE needed to be replaced due to coolant intrusion in cylinder three - at a cost of $7,000 - through no fault of mine. The car had had absolutely no problems up until this time, and the prescribed regular maintenance was preformed religiously. When "Googling" Ford Edge coolant intrusion, I found that numerous Ford owners with 4-cylinder turbo engines have had to have their entire engines replaced due to this apparently well-know problem. Some with less than 50k miles. I was also told by the dealership service department, that the engines have not been redesigned, so that this new $7k engine, may well develop the same problem! I am forced to pay the $7,000 repair bill, otherwise it would have no trade-in or sale value, and would just be a very large lawn ornament. This is an insanely expensive repair bill for owners, for a design flaw that apparently Ford knows well about. Please help! Thank you.

Vehicle is at 72,511 miles and suddenly started to misfire in idle. The vehicle is displaying coolant intrusion and I have video proof of coolant dripping into the 4th cylinder while running a pressure test on the coolant system and using a borescope. There is no maintenance that could have been done to prevent this issue as it is a clear design flaw. Based on TSB: 19-2208 the only repair is an engine block replacement. This car is now at risk to overheat, fail on a busy free way, and needs a repair that is too expensive for a customer to take on due to Ford’s poor design. Someone should not have to be seriously injured or be killed in order for this recall to be issued. People deserve better and this is very unethical to not recall the engine. Please require Ford to recall this vehicle’s engine.

My car all of a sudden started making a very loud clanging noise on start up. I took to Ford Dealer in Devine. Service said it sounded like a belt, but no one could actually look at it since they were backed up for 3 weeks. I spoke to [XXX] there. My husband took two different mechanics and they both said fly wheel. We told them to fix. When mechanic got in there to change he said that the flywheel was cracked in 4 places. It has almost ready to completely fall apart. He said that was not normal for a flywheel to do that. After doing some reach we found out that this happened to many Ford Edges (different years) and the short block is the problem. This could have ended very badly if flywheel would have went to pieces while driving. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I had my engine light come on several months ago. Driving down the highway, my car went from 55 to 20 mph and that’s all the faster I could get it to accelerate.Took to a mechanic and hooked it up to his reader and showed it was an engine misfire. Oil and fluids have been changed on time every year. The car has less than 60,000 miles on it. Lost heat and here there was very low coolant. Replenished the coolant and the next day was gone. Took back to mechanic and there was no external leak. Upon further inspections, it was determined that the coolant is leaking into the engine and only solution is a complete engine replacement. This is a huge safety issue. I am so thankful that I was driving on the highway with no traffic that day or it could have been a lot worse. Please make this issue into an immediate recall for the safety of all us drivers with these vehicles.

Car purchased as a CPO vehicle with 40,318 miles. Soon after I had regular maintenance service on 3/27/21 at 47,350 miles the car began to drag and the wheel on the driver side had a harder drive. I reported to my Ford service Dept and finally got an appointment on 5/07/21 at 47,921 miles and they could not duplicate the car’s reported actions. So thinking all was ok,I took a road trip stating at 48,500 miles and at 49,310 miles the engine light came on initial code 301 by auto zone power train problem. Called local Ford Service Dept their findings, code P0301 and P0316 and I need a Long Block, when I goggle it,it translated into a ENGINE. I decline and they gave me 1 spark plug and gallon container of antifreeze so I can get back home. And told me to check reservoir at every fill up. I put a little over 9,000 miles and this car needs a new engine, that’s ludicrous. I did some research once I got home. For dealers received a month before they sold me this car a warning of engine problems where the antifreeze was going into the cylinders causing a misfire. I have an appointment with my local dealer, but from the way the car is acting the prognosis doesn’t seem any different from the out of town Ford service dept. WHEN MERGING ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND YOU ACCELERATE AND GO FROM APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH TO 75 PMH THERE IS ALWAYS A SMOKING -BURNING SMELL COMING OUT OF THE A/C EXHAUST VENTS INSIDE THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF THE CAR. I HAD AN EXPLORER BEFORE AND IT DID THE SAME THING. I THOUGHT MY ENGINE WAS GOING TO BLOW UP EVEN THOUGH IT ONLY HAD APPROXIMATELY 30K MILES ON IT SO I TRADED IT. NOW THIS EDGE IS DOING THE SAME THING ... IS THIS AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT IS TRYING TO BE REPAIRED SOON. I ASKED IF THE 2018'S HAD THIS PROBLEM THE THE FORD DEALERSHIP SAID YES. SAME THING HAPPENS WHEN I PASS SOMEONE ON A REGULAR HIGHWAY ANY TIME YOU ACCELERATE YOUR SPEED FROM A LOWER SPEED TO A HIGHER ONE. THANKS

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER (SHEEHY FORD LINCOLN OF RICHMOND, 10601 MIDLOTHIAN TURNPIKE, RICHMOND, VA 23235), BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND SUGGESTED A FEW DIFFERENT OPTIONS TO TRY ON THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF ANY WOULD REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT NONE OF THE OPTIONS WERE HELPFUL IN REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO REPAIR THE FAILURE. MY 2015 FORD EDGE SUDDENLY LOST POWER WITHOUT ANY WARNING AS I WAS DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED ON MY RESIDENTIAL STREET. FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT IN A HIGH-SPEED TRAFFIC AREA, AS THIS SITUATION IS OBVIOUSLY A SERIOUS ONE. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE HAPPENING IN FORD VEHICLES. IT WAS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY AND THEY WERE ABLE TO REPLACE IT THE SAME DAY. I AM HOPING THIS NEW ONE WILL NOT POSE THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM ALSO SEEING ONLINE THAT THIS SAME ISSUE HAS BEEN OCCURRING IN THE 2015 FORD EDGE, AS WELL AS OTHER FORD VEHICLES IN PRIOR MODEL YEARS. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES, AND IF THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN OUT THERE FOR SEVERAL YEARS ALREADY, WHY IS THERE NOT A PERMANENT FIX? THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER AND EITHER YOU "LIMP" OFF THE ROAD WITH HARDLY ANY ACCELERATION, OR WORSE YET...NO POWER WHATSOEVER. HOW CAN THIS NOT BE CONSIDERED A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION ESPECIALLY IF THE SEMI TRUCK BEHIND YOU CANNOT SLOW DOWN IN TIME WHEN YOUR CAR DECIDES TO TURN ITSELF OFF? OR MAKING A TURN IN A BUSY INTERSECTION... AN ONCOMING VEHICLE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO AVOID CRASHING INTO YOU AS YOU DESPERATELY TRY TO RESTART YOUR VEHICLE. THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. IT IS CLEARLY A DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT NEEDS ATTENTION. DO THE RIGHT THING AND ISSUE THE RECALL AND SEE TO IT THAT THIS PART GETS A PERMANENT FIX.

ON ALL OCCASIONS THE ENGINE START BUTTON WAS FLASHING GREEN AND THE DASH WAS FULLY LIT UP WITH A NOTICE THAT FULL ACCESSORY POWER WAS AVAILABLE. ON ALL TIMES THE ENGINE RESTARTED OK. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY COMPUTER FAULT CODES AND EVEN PUT ON A FLIGHT RECORDER(BLACK BOX) BUT IN 2 WEEKS IT DIDN'T STALL SO I COULD NOT SET ANY DATA BY PUSHING THE JOY STICK. RATHER THAN DO NOTHING I ASKED IF THE COULD PERFORM TSB 15-0123 PCM RECALIBRATION WITH THE LATEST SOFTWARE JUST TO BE SURE THAT WASN'T A PROBLEM THAT I NOTICED ON OTHER WEBSITES AND FORD HAS A RECORD OF IT. IT JUST NOW A WAIT AND SEE IF THERE'S ANY FURTHER STALLING. HOWEVER, TODAY THE VEHICLE IS DOING THE SAME THING. TO HOPEFULLY GET A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY.
