Open Safety Recalls (3)
NHTSA Campaign: 15V005000
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
Ford Motor Company (Ford) notified the agency on January 8, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2014 Ford Escape vehicles manufactured April 15, 2014, to May 8, 2014, and 2015 Lincoln MKC vehicles manufactured April 21, 2014, to May 15, 2014. On April 30, 2015, Ford expanded the recall to cover an additional 45,505 vehicles, including certain model year 2014-2015 Ford Transit Connect vehicles manufactured November 11, 2013, to August 29, 2014, 2014-2015 Ford Fiesta vehicles manufactured April 10, 2014, to June 17, 2014 and 2014 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured April 30, 2014, to May 21, 2014. Improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump may result in the fuel pump failing.
Risk: If the fuel pump fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump, free of charge. The recall began on February 27, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S30.
NHTSA Campaign: 14V393000
Component: POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles manufactured September 2, 2010, to November 30, 2013; 2013-2014 Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS vehicles manufactured August 25, 2011, to November 30, 2013; and 2013-2014 Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT vehicles manufactured September 12, 2011, to November 30, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the halfshaft retention circlip may not have been properly installed, and as a result, the halfshaft may move outward and disengage from the linkshaft while driving and without prior warning.
Risk: If the halfshaft and linkshaft become disengaged while driving, power will no longer be transmitted to the wheels, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied before exiting the vehicle, the vehicle may roll away despite the transmission being placed in 'Park', increasing the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure that the halfshaft is properly retained. If it is not, dealers will replace the linkshaft and also replace the halfshaft if it shows evidence of spline damage, free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14S10.
NHTSA Campaign: 20V692000
Component: POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY:AXLE SHAFT
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Explorer, 2014-2015 Taurus and 2014 Edge vehicles equipped with 2.0L or 2.3L engines and front wheel drive. The support bracket for the front drive axle halfshaft may fail.
Risk: The failed bracket could result in a loss of park function which can cause unintended vehicle movement, and loss of motive power while driving which increases the risk of a crash.
Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the link shaft bracket, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. Owners received an interim notification detailing safety risk December 8, 2020. A second letter will be mailed when parts become available in January 2021. The recall began February 2, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S63.
Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 373)
Unknown Or Other →6 issues
Your backup camera frequently blacks out while you're backing up, making it impossible to see behind your vehicle—you've nearly hit a car and a person because of this. Sometimes the image also appears upside down or distorted. You've found that Ford has issued a recall for backup camera problems on 2015 and newer models with identical symptoms, but your 2014 Edge doesn't qualify for the recall despite having the same issues. The fix will likely involve diagnosing the camera connection or wiring and repairing or replacing the backup camera unit.

Your backup camera display is inverted or goes black frequently, making it difficult to use reliably. Additionally, your infotainment system (which controls the climate, navigation, radio, and phone connection) goes completely black for periods of time, leaving you without access to these functions. The issue with the infotainment system has been occurring for about 6 months. Fixing this will likely require a software update or replacement of the infotainment display unit and backup camera components.

Your backup camera stops working from time to time instead of displaying a reliable image when you shift into reverse. This intermittent failure makes it difficult to depend on the camera for safe backing up. The issue likely involves a loose connection, failing camera unit, or a problem with the display monitor.

Your rear view camera has stopped working properly over the past year—it's either going blank or displaying an image that's upside down. The dealership told you that only 2015 and newer models were covered under a recall for this issue, even though your 2014 was one of the first years backup cameras were required. You'd like the camera repaired at no cost to you.

Service Brakes →5 issues
Your vehicle's ABS (anti-lock brake) valve is on back order with no known delivery date, leaving many vehicles unable to be repaired. Without this part, your brakes may not function safely and your car shouldn't be driven until the replacement is available.

Your brake pedal went all the way to the floor while driving in traffic, nearly causing you to hit the vehicle in front of you. Your mechanic indicated this is a known ongoing issue with Ford vehicles and a recall matter. The vehicle hasn't been repaired yet despite contacting your Ford dealer and Ford Motor Company. This repair will likely involve inspection and replacement of brake system components, potentially including the master cylinder or brake lines.

Your ABS (anti-lock brake) system failed without warning or error codes. The brake pedal sinks nearly to the floor before brakes engage, taking about half a second longer to work than normal, and the pedal hits the floor due to interference. While brakes do eventually work once pressure builds, the delay is concerning and creates a safety risk in emergency braking situations. The fix will likely require replacing or rebuilding the ABS hydraulic module and checking the brake system components.

Your ABS module and hydraulic control unit aren't working properly. Your Ford dealership was unable to find a replacement part because the manufacturer is no longer producing them. You may notice your ABS system not functioning, which affects your car's braking performance. Fixing this will likely require replacing the ABS module/hydraulic control unit, though you may need to check with the manufacturer about part availability for your model year.

Your ABS (anti-lock braking system) module has failed. This means your anti-lock brakes won't function properly, though your regular brakes should still work. You may notice the ABS warning light on your dashboard. Fixing this will require diagnosing and replacing the faulty ABS module.

Your rearview camera works only occasionally when you're backing up, even though no warning lights appear on your dashboard. This intermittent failure means you may not always have the camera view when reversing, which reduces your ability to see obstacles behind the vehicle. The fix will likely involve diagnosing and repairing or replacing the rearview camera system or its electrical connections.

Air Bags,unknown Or Other,service Brakes →1 issue
Your 2014 Ford Edge experienced multiple serious safety failures: the driver's door lock sensor malfunctioned, causing the door to unlock while driving; the ABS and traction control warning lights came on and stayed on despite dealer resets; your brakes and traction control failed while driving, causing you to rear-end another vehicle; and your airbags did not deploy during the collision. Ford advised they would not service the vehicle because it was over 10 years old at the time of the crash. Resolving these issues would require diagnosing and replacing the faulty door lock sensor, ABS/traction control sensor, brake system components, and airbag system components.
