I was t-boned in the intersection of [XXX] and [XXX] in Washington, Utah on [XXX]. The airbags did not deploy in my vehicle. I was not injured or receive medical care. However, its a safety violation somewhere I'm sure. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Edge. The contact stated that all four door latches were inoperable, causing the door ajar light to remain illuminated. The contact stated that the failure caused the battery to be drained. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 67,862.
I believe the sunroof package to be defective as well as the electric system that is connected to the systems. I have brought the issue up with the dealership and they did not perform a proper diagnostic on the part to report any issues. I believe this is a safety issue as the windows and back gate open without prompt. I don't use the sunroof because it hasn't opened since a short time after my purchase. When the sunroof opened I tried to close it and the element that closes it popped above my head and threw the panoramic glass off the track. I took the vehicle in to point of purchase and they did not perform a proper diagnostic on it to tell me whether it was safe to close or not. So if this could be resolved I would appreciate it. When I went online to trouble shoot a solution or cause I found similar cases of issue with the panoramic sunroof components. Thank you.
THIS COMPLAINT IS REGARDING THE VISTA PANORAMA SUNROOF. WHILE TRYING TO CLOSE MY SUNROOF, I STARTED HEARING LOUD POPPING SOUNDS. I HAD TO TAKE MY CAR TO A MECHANIC TO GET THE SUNROOF CLOSED. I WAS LATER INFORMED THAT THE CLIPS ON THE GUIDES WERE BOTH BROKEN. NEEDLESS TO SAY, FORD IS MANUFACTURING CHEAP TRACKS THAT ARE HELD TOGETHER WITH PLASTIC CLIPS DESIGNED TO MOVE VERY HEAVY GLASS BACK AND FORTH. THIS IS UNTENABLE. I HAVE RESEARCHED NUMEROUS OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE WITH VERY LITTLE AFFORDABLE RESOLUTIONS.
DRIVER BACK DOOR SAYS "DOOR AJAR" THOUGH DOOR IS CLOSED. SAME ISSUE AS FIELD SERVICE ACTION 19N09 BUT THE BACK DOOR NOT THE DRIVERS ACTUAL DOOR.
FORD EDGE WARNING STATES DRIVER DOOR IS OPEN WHEN IS IS SHUT. THE CAR BEEPS WHEN STOPPED WHILE DRIVING FOR THIS DRIVER DOOR WARNING. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL ALSO STAY ON PERIODICALLY AFTER THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF BECAUSE OF THE FRONT DOOR OPEN WARNING. FORD KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE ISSUED A FIELD SERVICE NOTICE. *TR
DRIVER DOOR CONSTANTLY SAYS "DOOR AJAR" WHILE DRIVING OR STATIONARY WHEN THE DOOR IS OBVIOUSLY SHUT.
DRIVER DOOR AJAR SENSOR GOING OFF - RESULTING IN CHANGING A BATTERY OUT ALREADY SINCE IT THINKS THE DOOR IS OPEN, THE DOME LIGHT STAY ON INSIDE. VERY FRUSTRATING. READ SEVERAL FORUMS OF OTHERS DISCUSSING THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THIS PART. DOOR LATCH. THE FAULTY SENSOR TRIGGERS AN AUDIBLE WARNING, ACTIVATES A WARNING LIGHT AND CAUSES A "SHIFT TO PARK" MESSAGE BECAUSE THE COMPUTER MISTAKENLY BELIEVES THE VEHICLE HAS STOPPED. OWNERS COMPLAIN ABOUT DOME LIGHTS THAT STAY ON, DRAINED BATTERIES AND CUSTOMERS SAY ALL THE DOORS UNLOCK AND CANNOT BE MANUALLY RELOCKED.
DRIVER DOOR NOT SHUT ALERT CONTINUALLY COMES ON AND LEAVES CAR INTERIOR LIGHTS ON. THIS HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS. THE DOOR IS LATCHING FINE. THE SENSOR IS FAULTY.
DRIVER SIDE DOOR AJAR SENSOR IS DYSFUNCTIONAL
DOOR LATCH FAILURE. INITIALLY THE DOOR WILL INTERMITTENTLY NOT CLOSE WHILE PARKED (WOULD REBOUND OPEN WHEN PUSHED SHUT). NOW WHILE DRIVING THE DOOR WILL UNLATCH AND FULLY OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. FIRST IT HAPPENED WHEN TURNING A CORNER FROM A STOPPED POSITION. SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A CITY STREET AT APPROX 30 MPH.
I WAS ON THE FREEWAY WITH THE PANORAMIC VISTA SCREEN HALF OPEN, WHEN THE PLASTIC CLIPS BROKE(PARTS THAT MOVE THE SCREEN OPEN/CLOSE) THE VISTA SCREEN SLAMMED BACK AS FAR AS IT COULD GO, FOR A SECOND I THOUGHT THE ENTIRE GLASS HAD BROKEN AND I WAS IN FOR A WORLD OF HURT! THIS COULD CAUSE AN EXTREME SAFETY RISK IF THE GLASS HAD SHATTERED.
DOOR LATCH FAILURE, CAUSING DOOR AJAR WARNING TO STAY ON AND BATTERY TO DRAIN. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BATTERY BECAUSE OF IT. I HAVE LEFT SHOULDER AND ARM PAIN FROM OPENING AND CLOSING IT REPEATEDLY, UNTIL THE LATCH CLOSES AND SENDS SIGNAL TO CONTROL PANEL THAT THE DOOR IS CLOSED. I HAVE SAFETY CONCERNS BECAUSE I WORK AT NIGHT AND DON'T WANT A STALLED VEHICLE OR NO LIGHTS IN MY CAR WHEN I RETURN TO IT. ALSO IS CONCERNS FOR SAFETY OF PASSENGERS AND CHILDREN IN CAR WITH ME. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL ON LATCHES ON OTHER FORD VEHICLES, WHY NOT THIE FORD EDGE TOO? I'M SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING TRADING MY VEHICLE IF NOT FIXED. THIS IS MY FIRST FORD AND MAYBE MY LAST ONE IF IT ISN'T FIXED SOON!
DOOR LATCH MECHANISM... DOOR AJAR LIGHT CONSTANTLY ON
MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR AJAR LIGHT WOULD STAY ON AFTER CLOSING MY DOOR, WHETHER PARKED OR IN MOTION. I WOULD HAVE TO CLOSE IT 5-10, SOMETIMES MORE TIMES, TO GET THE LIGHT TO GO OFF. EVEN IF I SLAMMED THE DOOR SOMETIMES THE LIGHT STILL WOULDN'T GO OFF, AND THE WARNING SIGNAL WOULD CHIME AS I DROVE. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED FROM A HONDA DEALER, AND THE SALESMAN TOLD ME IT WAS LIKELY JUST A SENSOR ISSUE, SO I IGNORED IT FOR A MONTH OR SO BEFORE TAKING IT IN TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHEN I THOUGHT I COULD AFFORD TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THEY DID DIAGNOSTICS ON IT AND TOLD ME IT WASN'T JUST THE SENSOR, THAT THE DOOR WAS ACTUALLY OPEN BECAUSE THE LATCH WASN'T CLOSING PROPERLY. THEY TOLD ME IF I GOT IN A WRECK MY DOOR COULD FLY OPEN, SO I LET THEM REPAIR IT. THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE LOCK ASSEMBLY ON THE DRIVER SIDE. I HAVE ATTACHED MY INVOICE FOR RECORD OF THE REPAIRS MADE AND THE COST.
THE DRIVERS SIDE "DOOR AJAR" WARNING LIGHT, REMAINS LIT WHEN DOOR IS CLOSED. IT PREVENTS THE DOORS FROM LOCKING. ALSO, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON. VEHICLE IS STATIONARY.
DOOR AJAR , CAR HAS BEEN TO DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES FOR REAR DOOR AJAR PROBLEMS, LIGHT ON IN DASH AND ALL INSIDE LIGHTS ON . ALL THEY CAN SAY IS IT NEEDS NEW DOOR AJAR LATCH , VERY UNSAFE AS I HAVE TO DRIVE CAR TILL LIGHTS TURN OFF INSIDE CAR , I CAN NOT LET MY KIDS RIDE IN BACK SEAT AS ITS TELLING ME THE DOOR IS AJAR .
DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON CONSTANTLY, MUST SLAM DRIVER DOOR MULTIPLE (17+) TIMES TO GET THE LIGHT TO GO OUT. ONCE LIGHT FINALLY GOES OUT, I HEAR A CLICK AND THE LIGHT GOES BACK ON AGAIN. WORRIED THE LATCH IS NOT LOCKING PROPERLY. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER VEHICLE IS RUNNING OR NOT.

DOOR AJAR SENSOR IS CONTINUOUSLY COMING ON WHEN DOOR IS CLOSED,INTERIOR LIGHTS COMING ON AND NIGHT, BLINDING DRIVER. LIGHT COMES ON WHILE DRIVING.
FORD EDGE LEFT REAR DOOR LATCH FAILING. THE LATCH SENSOR RANDOMLY FAULTS AND IT'S UNCLEAR IF THE DOOR IS PROPERLY LATCHED OR NOT. THE ALARM WILL SOUND RANDOMLY AS THE SENSOR FAILS WHILE THE CAR IS LOCKED. THIS COULD CAUSE A SITUATION WHERE THE DOOR IS NOT PROPERLY CLOSED BUT THE SENSOR SAYS IT IS. PASSENGERS IN THE CAR COULD BE EJECTED. LATCH FAULTS WHEN STATIONARY OR IN MOTION.
DRIVERS DOOR WILL NOT LOCK, ICON ON DASH SAYS "DRIVERS DOOR ADJAR"' WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. WHEN STOPPED, EVEN MOMENTARILY THE "SHIFT TO PARK" LOGO APPEARS, AND A CHIME SOUNDS. UNABLE TO LOCK THE VEHICLE WHEN PARKED AS THE FACTORY ALARM STARTS SOUNDING DEPENDING ON THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE.
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LATCH WHICH HAS SENSOR, BUILT IN, TO NOTIFY COMPUTER THE DOOR IS CLOSED WORKS ONLY INTERMITENLY. REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY, THEN LUBERCATED AND ADJUSTED AFTER 36,000 MILE WARRANTY EXPIRED. EACH REPAIR ONLY LASTED A FEW MONTHS. STILL HAVING PROBLEM. SHOWS DOOR AJAR AT ALMOST EVERY STOP WITH ANNOYING AND DISTRACTING ALARM DING. LEAVES MESSAGE ON INSTUREMENT PANEL, BLOCKING OTHER VITAL READINGS AND POSSIBLE ALERTS UNTIL ACKNOWLEDGED(TEMP GUAGE, ECT.). LEAVES INTERIOR LIGHTS ON CAUSING BATTERY DRAIN AND BEING STRANDED BY DEAD BATTERY. WILL NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK WITH KEY PAD. THIS HAPPENS DAILY. FIRST REPAIR BACK IN 2014.

THE DRIVERS' DOOR LATCH IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE DOOR AJAR ALARM IS DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD -AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL NOT TURN OFF. IT HAS CAUSED A DRAINED BATTERY AND DECREASED VISIBILITY AT NIGHT -DUE TO GLARE FROM INTERIOR LIGHTS ON WINDSHIELD. I AM ALSO NOT SURE IF THE DOOR IS ACTUALLY PROPERLY LATCHED-AND IF IT WILL OPEN WHILE IN MOTION. I TALKED TO MY DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST $400+ TO REPLACE THE LATCH..WHICH I DO NOT THINK IT JUST -WHEN THE CAR IS SO NEW.
MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCH IS DEFECTIVE. THE SENSOR IS SHOWING THAT THE DOOR IS OPEN WHEN THE DOOR IS ACTUALLY CLOSED. THIS CAUSES MY INTERIOR LIGHTS TO REMAIN ON AND IT EVENTUALLY DRAINS MY BATTERY.

WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED WITH THE DOOR SECURELY CLOSED IT WILL DISPLAY WARNINGS ON THE DASH, UNLOCK ALL DOORS (INCLUDING REAR DOORS WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE BACKSEATS) AND TURN ON THE DOME LIGHTS. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHEN STARTING THE CAR, WHILE TRAVELING AND WHEN PARKED AND IDLING. IT ALSO MEANS THAT I CANNOT LOCK MY DOORS WHEN I LEAVE IT PARKED. IT CAUSES INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS TO REMAIN LIT WHEN CAR IS OFF AND DRAIN THE BATTERY. I AM CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF ME AND MY FAMILY AS WELL AS THE SECURITY OF MY VEHICLE.
THE DRIVER DOOR LATCH HAS A CENSOR THAT GOES OUT AND CAUSES THE CAR DOOR TO THINK IT'S OPEN WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY CLOSED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS YOU COULD BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH THE DOME LIGHT ON. OR NOT PAYING ATTENTION WHEN IT KEEPS BEEPING AT YOU WHILE YOUR DRIVING. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF CASES FOR THE CAR. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. THIS IS COSTING OWNERS $500 FOR A DEFECT IN FORD.

IN APRIL 2016, WE STARTED EXPERIENCING AN ISSUE WITH THE DRIVERS DOOR LATCH NOT CONNECTING AND OUR DRIVERS DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYING ON. WE WOULD MANUALLY HAVE TO REOPEN THE LATCH TO CLOSE THE DOOR BUT THIS STILL DIDN'T ALWAYS MAKE THIS DOOR AJAR LIGHT DO OUT. THERE WERE TIMES WE WOULD HAVE TO CLOSE THE DOOR UP TO 5 TIMES TO GET THE LIGHT TO GO OUT AND FEEL THAT THE DOOR WAS CLOSED. IT WAS WORSE ON A TRIP AT THE END OF APRIL TO FLORIDA IN WHICH WE WERE UNABLE TO GET THIS TO HAPPEN AND COULDN'T GET OUR INTERIOR LIGHTS TO GO OUT SINCE IT WAS TELLING US THE DOOR WAS STILL OPEN. THIS ISSUE WOULD HAPPEN WHILE PARKED OR DRIVING. THE LIGHT WOULD BE OUT WHEN LEAVING THE DRIVEWAY AND THEN COME ON WHILE ON THE ROAD! WE HAD THIS CHECKED THREE TIMES, FIRST TWO UNSUCCESSFUL AND THE THIRD WE WERE TOLD IT WAS A BROKEN DOOR LATCH AND WASN'T COVERED SO WE HAD IT REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $329.85! THEN I HEAR THERE ARE RECALLS ON OTHER FORD MODELS BUT THE EDGE WAS NOT ON THE LIST AND IT IS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE THAT IS LISTED AND DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL OF MANY OTHER FORD VEHICLES!
DRIVER SIDE DOOR AJAR LITE REMAINS ON EVEN IF DOOR CLOSED SECURELY. DOOR AJAR LIGHT AND SIGNAL REMAINS ON WHEN CAR MOVING OR STATIONARY. UNABLE TO LOCK DOORS WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 1 MONTH NOW.
DOO AJAR SIGNAL STAYS ON WHEN DOOR IS CLOSED. PREVENTS DRIVER FROM KNOWING OF A REAL DOOR AJAR SITUATION. INTERIOR LIGHT STAYS ON, CREATING A NIGHT DRIVING HAZARD AND WHEN SITTING IN CAR AT NIGHT. UNABLE TO LOCK DOORS WHILE INSIDE VEHICLE, MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. FAULTY LATCH OR SENSOR. ALL ISSUES STEMMING FOR FAULTY DOOR LATCH OR SENSOR.
DASHBOARD COMPUTER SAYS REAR DOOR IS AJAR WHEN IT'S NOT, WILL NOT THE DOORS LOCK AND DOME LATE STAYS ON
DRIVER DOOR AJAR WARNING REMAINS ON AT ALL TIMES. EVEN WHEN DOOR IS SECURELY SLAMMED SHUT. THIS CAUSES A WARNING TO APPEAR ON THE DASH, THE "DINGING" CONTINUES EVERY TIME THE BRAKE IS RELEASED, THE DOME LIGHT REMAINS ON FOR A FEW MINUTES WHEN BEGINNING DRIVING (DANGEROUS AT NIGHT) AND REMAINS ON AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE (BECAUSE IT THINKS THE DOOR IS STILL OPEN.) THIS HAS CAUSED MY BATTERY TO DRAIN TWICE. THE DOME LIGHT IS EXTREMELY DISTRACTING WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND THERE IS NO WAY TO TURN IT OFF. I HAVE "FIXED" THE PROBLEM BY USING "KEYBOARD CLEANER". HOWEVER, THIS ONLY "FIXES" THE PROBLEM FOR A DAY OR TWO. I HAVE HAD THIS ON-GOING PROBLEM FOR 2.5 YEARS. THE PROBLEM STARTED RIGHT WHEN THE CAR HIT 30,000 MILES.
WE WERE HIT FROM BEHIND BY AN 18 WHEELER IN THE HWY AND SLAMMED INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF US SEVERAL TIMES AND NOT 1 AIRBAG WENT OFF.
THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES RANDOMLY AND STAYS ILLUMINATED EVEN WHEN THE DOOR IS FULLY CLOSED AND LOCKED BOTH WHILE THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND IN MOTION. THE WARNING CHIME PERIODICALLY PLAYS AND THE DOME LIGHT STAYS ILLUMINATED. MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AS "CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED" IN DECEMBER 2014 WHICH EVIDENTLY DID NOT INCLUDE REPLACEMENT OF THE KNOWN DISCREPANT DOOR LATCH COMPONENT.
DOOR AJAR WARNING REMAINS ON FOR DRIVER SIDE DOOR WHEN DOOR IS SHUT. ALSO INTERIOR LIGHT REMAINS ON.
DRIVER SIDE DOOR AJAR SENSOR FAILING. SHOWS DOOR IS AJAR WHEN IT IS NOT. LIGHT WILL NOT GO OFF WHICH DRAINS THE BATTERY AND IT AFFECTS THE LOCKING SYSTEM WHEN IN DRIVE WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE. VEHICLE IS A FEW YEARS OLD WITH LESS THAN 45K MILES. DO A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND IT IS EASY TO SEE IT IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY FORD. IN MY OPINION THIS IS A BYPRODUCT OF FORD OUTSOURCING TO MEXICO WITHOUT PROPER QUALITY CONTROL. 2012 FORD EDGE BEGAN HAVING A "DOOR AJAR" ERROR. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, YOU ARE UNABLE TO LOCK THE DOORS WITH THE KEYPAD. NOT BEING ABLE TO LOCK THE VEHICLE IS A MAJOR ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY THE FAILURE OF A MICRO SWITCH ASSEMBLED IN THE LATCH MECHANISM. WHEN THIS SWITCH FAILS, THE SIGNAL TO TELL THE CAR THE DOOR IS CLOSED IS NOT SENT.

DOOR AJAR COMES ON WHEN I START THE VEHICLE. THIS CAUSES THE DOME LIGHT TO COME ON AND I CAN ONLY GET THE SENSOR TO GO OFF WHEN I DRIVE FORWARD AND OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL POSTS ON THE INTERNET OF THIS SAME ISSUE WITH OTHER FORD VEHICLES: F150, EDGE, RANGER AND ESCAPE NEWER YEAR MODELS FROM 2007 TO CURRENT. IF THE DOORS DO NOT LOCK THIS PUTS THE PERSON OR PERSONS IN THE VEHICLE AT RISK. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS MAY ALSO AFFECT THE PROPER ACTIVATION OF THE ALARM WHICH IS ALSO A SAFETY HAZARD.
