Over the last 2 years I have been to the dealership and numerous other mechanics in an attempt to diagnose the problem. Here is the problem..... if the vehicle is not started daily the battery is drained and the vehicle does not start. I have had an occurrence of the vehicle not starting after a few hours. I have replaced the battery 3 times in the past 2 years and had the dealership tell me they could not find a problem. There are plenty of complaints online about this same issue and after calling dodge itself have received no valid info other than to report here. Here is one website with a lot of complaints just to start. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t36017_ds846706 This issue should have been recalled and fixed a long time ago evidently. There are currently under 150000 miles on my vehicle. One of the people reported that the dealership told them to use a trickle charger on a new car..... this is a unacceptable resolution. I will be posting this website for others to contact you in hopes that it is realized this is a true recall issue.

VEHICLE TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT WARNING, EVEN AT FULL SPEED. THIS HAPPENS WHILE I AM DRVING ANYWHERE INCLUDING THE HIGHWAY
MY CAR IS THROWING OFF A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AN IT INDICATES IT'S MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER, MY ENGINE HAS AN KNOCKING SOUND ALSO, AND WHEN I APPLY PRESSURE ON MY BRAKES THERE'S A DELAY OF STOPPING. WHILE I'M DRIVING CITY/HIGHWAY.
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY OR STREET, CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF, CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKES AND POWER STEERING. WILL RESTART AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BUT IS DANGEROUS ON THE INTERSTATE OR WHILE PASSING OR DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. MECHANIC CODE PULLS DEAD BATTERY BUT BATTERY CHANGED AND STILL SHUTS OFF.
THE ENGINE HA A CLICKING NOISE
THE PASSENGER SIDE HEAT STOPPED BLOWING WARM AND BECAME ONLY COLD AIR. FOUND OUT BY HAVING HEATER CORE REPLACED THAT ITS BECAUSE OF CASTING SAND LEFT OVER ON ENGINE BLOCK AND THE ANGLE OF HEATER CORE CAUSES IT TO BUILDUP AND PREVENT THE HEAT FROM THE CORE INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE. NEW HEATER CORE ALREADY CLOGGED NO HEAT ON EITHER SIDE. WHEN THEY REPLACED IT WAS DODGE DEALER AND THEY FLUSHED EVERYTHING THEY SAID.
COOLANT WAS LOW SO IT WAS FILLED WITH COOLANT. THE RESERVOIR WAS LOW AGAIN THE VERY SAME DAY AND THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING (AS WELL AS THE AC NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND BLEW HOT AIR EVEN WHEN USING COLD) ON THE HIGHWAY, BARELY MAKING IT TO DESTINATION. THE FIRST DIAGNOSIS WAS AN AIR VACUUM CAUSED A LEAK. THE PROBLEM KEEPS REOCCURRING AFTER THE SUPPOSED FIX.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2012 DODGE JOURNEY AND MY CAR POWER JUST SHUT DOWN AND IT WON'T START. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS HARD AND STIFF.MY CAR IS COMPLETELY DISABLED HAD TO GET IT TOW TO MY HOUSE. I TRIED TO START THE CAR IT'S NOT STARTING AT ALL NO PEER NO LIGHTS NOTHING COMPLETELY DEAD
COOLANT LEAK UNDER INTAKE.. REPAIR SHOP SAID HE HAD SAME IDENTICAL VEHICLE COME IN LESS THAN A MONTH AGO SAME CONCERN.. VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND COULD SMELL SOMETHING BURNING AFTER HOURS OF LABOR SERVICE MANAGER SEALED AND REPLACED THE HOSE. BUT SAYS TO CHECK SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL SINCE HE HAD ANOTHER VEHICLE COME IN.
ABS, AWD SERVICE , THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER AND STOP, HAVE TO TURN CAR OFF AND BACK ON
I'VE SEEN THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE ABS UNFORTUNATELY MY VEHICLE WAS MADE A MONTH LATER. MY ABS LIGHT, BREAK LIGHT, AIR BAG LIGHT AND THE CAR SLIPPERY LIGHT IS ON.
RADIO GOES OUT AND VEHICLE NOT ABLE TO BE USED ALL CONTROLS IN HEAD UNIT COMPLAINED ABOUT IT 6 TIMES AND STILL NOTHING CANT OPERATE LIGHTS AND SAFETY EQUIPTMENT
OVER THE LAST MONTH MY CAR WILL ALL OF A SUDDEN DIE WHILE I AM DRIVING IT. WHEN IT HAPPENS I LOSE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. I AM NOT ABLE TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC. MY VEHICLE WILL GO FROM 65 MPH TO 0 MPH IN SECONDS AND STOP WHERE I MAY BE. IT HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIME ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS WEEK IT STARTED TO HAPPEN WHILE ON MAIN ROADS. WHEN IT HAPPENS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON FOR A SHORT TIME AND THE CAR WILL CONTINUE TO TRY AND RESTART ITSELF BUT BY THE TIME I GET THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS OFF AND NOT DIAGNOSTIC CODES ARE FOUND. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THE DEFECT IS UNKNOWN.
MOTOR BURNED UP CAUSE OF A PIN HOLE LEAK FROM THE RADIATOR THAT WENT INTO THE MOTOR, MIXED WITH THE OIL, BEING OVERHEATED
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 DODGE JOURNEY. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, A CHEMICAL ODOR WAS PRESENT. THE CONTACT BECAME ILL FROM THE CHEMICALS USED TO MANUFACTURER THE VEHICLE. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT RECEIVED. SALINAS VALLEY FORD LINCOLN (1100 AUTO CENTER CIR, SALINAS, CA) WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. I TRIED TURNING ON THE CAR AND IT WOULDN'T TURN ON. ALL THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WORK, IT LOCKS AND UNLOCKS WITH KEY, ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING WORKS FINE BUT WON'T TURN ON EVEN AFTER REPLACING WITH A NEW BATTERY. THIS ISSUE IS RIDICULOUS AND DODGE NEEDS TO FIX IT ASAP. I WILL NEVER BUY DODGE AGAIN.
MY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TOTALLY FAILED ON MY 2012 DODGE JOURNEY, I HAVE HAD OVER 20 FIRES UNDER HOOD OF THIS DODGE JOURNEY I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR OVER AND OVER TO THE DEALERSHIP OVER A 4 YEAR PERIOD THEY SAY THE DODGE TOLD THEM NOT TO REPAIR THE CAR, SO ON 2/28/2018 THE 2012 DODGE JOURNEY WAS TOTALED BY FIRE, THE TOTAL CAR BLOW UP UNDER THE CAR WHEN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED THE CONVERTER FILL WITH GAS ME AND MY FAMILY NEARLY DIED THAT DAY TO THIS PRESENT DAY THERE HAS BEEN NOTHING DONE ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS BEFORE THIS HAPPENED THE WIPER , THE RADIO , EVERYTHING WOULD TURN ON WITHOUT A SWITCH BEENING TURNED ON......I NEARLY HAD A HEAD ON THAT DAY 2/28/2018 BECAUCE I HAD LIMITED STEERING AND BRAKES WHEN THE CAR BLOW UP , CAN SOMEONE AT THIS AGENCY HELP WITH ANYOF THESE PROBLEMS, ALSO THERE WAS SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURIES THAT DAY AS WELL.. WHILE IN MOTION MY CAR CUTT OFF ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BUT CAME RIGHT BACK ON. LAST NIGHT WHILE IN MOTION MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AND DID I NOT TURN BACK ON. I TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLE AS FAR AS MAINTENANCE. SO FAR I'VE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY ON A VEHICLE THAT I BOUGHT NEW. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR AND ALSO REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING. I GOT ALL THE WORK DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT MY CAR.
MY ABS LIGHT ON THE DASH ILLUMINATED A MONTH AFTER PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER SHUT IT OFF. IT STAYS OFF A DAY, MONTH OR SEVERAL MONTHS. THERE IS NO WAY TO DETERMINE HOW LONG IT WILL REMAIN OFF. EVERY TIME I GET AN OIL CHANGE, IT IS TURNED OFF. LAST WEEK, IT WOULD NOT TURN OFF. I WOULD NOT BE CONCERNED BUT WINTERS IN MICHIGAN REQUIRE THE ABS FUNCTIONING. NOT SURE IF THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH OTHER JOURNEYS BUT BEFORE SPENDING SEVERAL DOLLARS ON REPAIRS, I THOUGH I'D CONTACT YOU.
I'M EXPERIENCING AN ODOR THAT IS COMING THROUGH MY VENTS, IT SMELLS LIKE ANTIFREEZE BUT THEN THE ODOR CHANGED AND IT SMELLED LIKE ANESTHESIA AND HAD AN EFFECT LIKE IT AS WELL. I WAS DRIVING ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK AND HAD THE AIR-CONDITIONER RUNNING (SUMMER 2016) MY EYES STARTED TO GET BLURRY AND THE SMELL WAS TAKING OVER ME, I SAID TO MYSELF I THINK I'M ABOUT TO PASS OUT ( IT WAS A FEELING LIKE I WAS GOING UNDER TO PREPARE FOR SURGERY) I QUICKLY LET THE WINDOWS DOWN TO AIR OUT THE CAR. AND THEN I WAS FINE. I DID NOT RUN THE AIR THE REST OF THE SUMMER. NOW THAT IT IS WINTER I WAS RUNNING MY DEFROST AND THE SAME SMELL WAS THERE SO I QUICKLY DEFROST AND AIRED OUT THE CAR. ALSO WITH IT BEING COLD AND TURNING ON THE HEAT I STILL GET THAT ANTI-FREEZE SMELL. SOMETIMES WHEN I AM NOT RUNNING ANYTHING THROUGH THE VENTS A WHIFF OF THE SMELL COMES THROUGH. I HAD MY CAR SERVICED AND LOOKED AT BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND COULD NOT DETECT THE FOUL SMELL. EACH TIME I AND THESE ENCOUNTERS I WAS DRIVING BOTH IN THE CITY AND ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS STARTED IN THE SUMMER OF 2016 AND IT IS STILL HAPPENING AS OF 3/17/17
CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AND 2 CAMSHAFT SENSORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. GOING UPHILL ON A BRIDGE THAT I TRAVEL 2X A DAY FOR 365/YEAR, IT DECIDED TO CUT OFF WHILE GOING UP THE BRIDGE, I WENT FROM 52 MPH TO 0 MPH AND COASTED TO THE FOOT OF THE BRIDGE, IT WOULD SPUTTER WHEN TRYING TO TURN ON AND THEN AFTER 20 - 30 MINS, IT TURNED ON AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED AND I DROVE HOME. THE NEXT DAY TRIED TO DRIVE OVER THE BRIDGE AND IT DID THE SAME THING GOING UP HILL. IT JUST STOPPED. MECHANIC SAYS I HAD 2 BAD CAMSHAFT SENSORS AND 1 BAD CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. THE CAR STILL HICCUPS AND SHUTTERS AND ACTS LIKE IT IS GOING TO CUT OFF AGAIN AS I GO UPHILL WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON. I REALLY BELIEVE IN MY HEART THE AIR CONDITIONING IS DRAINING THE POWER AND SOMEHOW CAUSING ADVERSE AFFECTS ELSEWHERE, I JUST DONT KNOW HOW I CAN PROVE THE CORRELATION. I DON'T FEEL LIKE REPLACING THOSE SENSORS IS THE END ALL TO THE STORY. I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO.
CAR HAS PERIODICALLY STALLED WHILE DRIVING 10+ TIMES OVER THE LAST SIX MONTHS. IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ATTEMPTED FIXING A COUPLE OF ITEMS...ONE WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND ONE COST OVER $200 TO REPAIR. YET, THE CAR STALLED AGAIN TWO TIMES A MONTH AFTER THE LAST REPAIR. STALLING USUALLY HAPPENS WHILE SLOWING DOWN AND ABOUT TO MAKE A TURN. IT HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES WHILE PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY, WHICH HAS A SLIGHT INCLINE.
I HAVE TRIED TO GET MY VEHICLES IN FOR THEIR RECALLS HOWEVER THE DEALERSHIP CAN NEVER GET THE VEHICLES DONE IN A REASONABLE TIME FRAME. I CAN MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND HAVE EVERYTHING SET UP FOR A 30 MINUTE FIX AND AS SOON AS THE CAR GETS THERE IT'S WELL WE WILL NEED TO KEEP IT FOR 48 HOURS BEFORE WE CAN WORK ON IT. MY OTHER VEHICLE IS A TAKATA RECALL AND IT'S BEEN ON A WAITING LIST FOR OVER A YEAR TO CAME IN.
I'M NOT SURE WHERE THIS FALLS UNDER SINCE I NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE UNTIL THIS PAST SUNDAY. MY HATCH/TRUNK AREA OPENED ONE MINUTE AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO OPEN IT AGAIN IT DID NOT OPEN. THERE IS NO WAY TO OPEN IT AND THERE IS NO EMERGENCY LATCH, SWITCH OR ANYTHING TO OPEN IT FROM THE INSIDE. I FEEL THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. ANY ADVICE WILL BE APPRECIATED.
I DROVE MY VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 30 MILES, UPON ARRIVING HOME AND REMOVING MY CHILDREN FROM THE CAR I SMELT SOMETHING BURNING. I COULDN'T LOCATE WHERE THE SMELL WAS COMING FROM AND JUST DECIDED TO KEEP AN EYE ON IT. ON THE 21ST OF JULY AGAIN AFTER DRIVING A DECENT AMOUNT, MAYBE 25 MILES, AND REMOVING MY CHILDREN FROM THE CAR I SMELT BURNING. WHEN GOING TO THE PASSANGER SIDE OF MY VEHICLE THE SMELL WAS STRONGER, AT THAT TIME I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM MY REAR PASSANGER TIRE AREA. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO TWO SEPERATE MECHANICS, INCLUDING THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY CAR AND HAVE BEEN TOLD DIFFERENT THINGS AS TO WHAT EXACTLY IS WRONG. I ALSO HAPPEN TO BE 4 DAYS AWAY FROM MY WARRANTY EXPIRING AND HAVE A FEELING THAT MAY BE CAUSING THE DIFFERENCE IN DIAGNOSIS. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH CHRYSLER DIRECTLY AND ALSO HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT MY WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER ANYTHING IF THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT FIGURE OUT THE ISSUE BY TUESDAY (THE 28TH AND LAST VALID DAY OF MY WARRANTY) EVEN THOUGH THE COMPLAINT AND DIAGNOSIS HAD BEEN MADE TODAY. I HAVE BEEN AWARE OF A RECALL ON OTHER 2012 DODGE JOURNEY'S BUT ACCORDING TO VARIOUS RECALL INFORMATION SITES MY VEHICLE DOES NOT FALL IN THE MANUFACTURING DATE RANGE WHICH I DO NOT BELIEVE SHOULD BE EXCLUDED SINCE IT IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AS WHAT THE RECALL WAS PUT OUT FOR. BETWEEN BOTH MECHANICS I HAVE BEEN TOLD BRAKE PADS NEED REPLACED, ROTORS NEED RESURFACED AND/OR REPLACED, AND ONE OF THE MECHANICS EXPRESSED THAT THERE WAS EITHER A CALIPER ISSUE OR BRAKE LINE ISSUE WHICH WOULD BE CAUSING THE BURNING AND SMOKING (MY VEHICLE IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD AND ONLY HAS 24K MILES ON IT.) DODGE HAS REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS ISSUE WHICH IS COVERED BY MY WARRANTY AND THE WARRANTY WILL NOT PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT UNLESS DODGE SAYS THE CALIPER/BRAKE LINE HAS AN ISSUE.
