ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2011-2015 Dodge Journey vehicles manufactured July 19, 2010, to May 26, 2015 and equipped with 2.4L engines. In the affected vehicles, the engine cover may detach from the engine and contact the exhaust manifold.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will install an improved mounting system for the engine cover, free of charge. The recall began on October 15, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R32.

CHRYSLER IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2012 CHRYSLER VEHICLES, INCLUDING 200 AND TOWN AND COUNTRY MODELS, DODGE VEHICLES, INCLUDING CHARGER, DURANGO, GRAND CARAVAN AND JOURNEY MODELS AND JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM AUGUST 31, 2011, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 13, 2011, THAT ARE EQUIPPED WITH 3.6L ENGINES. THESE ENGINES MAY EXPERIENCE CONNECTING ROD BEARING FAILURE DUE TO DEBRIS INSIDE THE ENGINE BLOCK.

Fix: CHRYSLER WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE ENGINE FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT NOVEMBER 18, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

Your engine has no compression in one or more cylinders, likely due to a head gasket failure. Tests show combustion gases are leaking out of the cylinder, though your car isn't overheating or losing coolant noticeably. This will prevent your engine from running properly or starting. Fixing this typically requires removing the cylinder head and replacing the head gasket.

Your 2012 Dodge Journey caught fire without warning after your daughter started it, preceded by an abnormal popping noise from the engine. The fire spread to your home and two nearby vehicles, causing significant property damage. This issue is covered under a safety recall (NHTSA Campaign 15V431000) for engine and engine cooling problems, and your vehicle should be inspected and serviced by a dealer immediately to prevent this from happening again.

On vehicles with the 3.6l Pentastar engine, the oil pump fails before 150,000 miles causing DTC P06DD to trip which instantly puts the vehicle into "Limp Mode". This immediately cuts down the power to the engine which slows everything down potentially causing you to be hit by other traffic. It also causes a hefty repair bill. This is a very common issue known to the repair shops and dealers. My family has a 2012 Dodge Journey with this engine. A local and well known mechanic shop performed extensive diagnostics and confirmed this issue. The repair took hours to complete. The repair shop did replace other parts that could potentially cause this problem, however, it did not resolve the issue. There were/are no warning signs; simply the engine light comes on and the vehicle goes straight into limp mode with immediate decline in power.

The contact owns a 2012 Dodge Journey. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated to 20 MPH. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was purchased to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the head gasket and throttle body had failed. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and it was determined that the throttle body had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer towed the vehicle to an unknown authorized Dodge dealer who repaired the vehicle however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 126,000.

PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE HAD NO HEAT JUST COOL AIR COMING OUT OF VENTS. DRIVERS SIDE HAD HEAT COMING OUT OF VENTS. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT FACILITY TO HAVE COOLING SYSTEM AND HEATER CORE FLUSHED. WAS TOLD BY INDEPENDENT SHOP IF PROBLEM COMES BACK TO TAKE VEHICLE TO DEALER AND HAVE HEATER CORE REPLACED. AFTER ABOUT 2 MONTHS PROBLEM CAME BACK. TOOK TO DEALER AND FOUND SAME PROBLEM, A CLOGGED HEATER CORE. THEY REACED HEATER CORE IN DECEMBER OF 2018, ALL WAS GOOD TILL NOVEMBER OF 2019. NO HEAT ON PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE. TOOK BACK TO DEALER AND THEY FLUSHED HEATER CORE. DECEMBER OF 2019 ONCE AGAIN NO HEAT ON PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE. THEY REFLUSHED HEATER CORE AND TOLD US IF PROBLEM COMES BACK TO HAVE RADIATOR REPLACED AND COOLING SYSTEM FLUSHED. THIS IS TURNING INTO A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM DUE TO THE WINDOW KEEP FOGGING UP IN MY WIFES CAR MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR HER TO SEE CLEARLY AND SAFELY WHILE DRIVING. THE 4 CYLINDER ENGINE ON MY 2012 DODGE JOURNEY DEVELOPED AN ENGINE COOLANT LEAK. TROUBLE SHOOTING FOUND THE LEAK TO BE RELATED TO DETERIORATION OF A PLASTIC PART INSIDE THE ENGINE...DODGE PART# 68003582...ADAPTER C. THE CAR WAS STANDING WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED. IF I HAD NOT HAD THE PART REPLACED A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE COOLANT LEAK COULD HAVE OCCURRED WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN, LEADING TO A FULL LOSS OF COOLANT, OVERHEATING OF THE ENGINE AND SEIZING OF THE ENGINE. I TALKED WITH DODGE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGED AWARENESS OF THE PROBLEM.THE CAR HAS 89,000 MILES. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM.

THE SECOND TIME I TOOK IT IN WAS AFTER A WEEK OF VERY SKETCHY ENGINE TROUBLE (WHERE IT ALMOST STALLED NUMEROUS TIMES) AND THE LAST 2 TIMES IT HAD STALLED ON ME. WHEN I GOT IT BACK IT DROVE MUCH BETTER, BUT YET THEY STATED THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. I HAVE A COUSIN WHO HAS A CHRYSLER T&C, SAME YEAR AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AND AGAIN THEY COULD FIND NOTHING (THEY ARE THE SAME ENGINE.) I HAVE PUT A COMPLAINT INTO DODGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIATOR FAN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,546. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,000.

MY FAMILY WAS IN THE VEHICLE (MY SON WAS 4 WEEKS OLD AT THE TIME, MY DAUGHTER 2) ON THE NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY AND THE VEHICLE STALLED OUT AT 65 MPH. MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. ABOUT 15 MILES LATER, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. WE EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND THE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. SHORTLY AFTER THAT, THE LOW FUEL LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IT'S HAPPEND TWO OTHER TIMES SINCE THAT FIRST INCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME THAT THEY CAN'T RECREATE THE INCIDENT AND THE CODES AREN'T ACTIVE SO THEY CAN'T VERIFY THE SCENARIO. CHRYSLER HAS TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THE VEHICHLE IN UNPREDICTABLE, UNRELIABLE AND IN MY OPINION, UNSAFE. I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH ON THE ISSUE AND FOUND A FORUM INDICATING STALLING ISSUES WITH DODGE JOURNEYS DATING BACK TO 2008.
