Your vehicle shuts off unexpectedly while driving after about 15 minutes and won't restart until it cools down, even though you've had the camshaft, crankshaft, and throttle position sensor replaced. Your steering wheel became very difficult to turn while parking, and your engine lost power and wouldn't restart while stopped at a traffic light. These problems have happened on and off over the past two years. The dealer couldn't reproduce the issue when they tested it, so they didn't make any repairs. The fix will likely involve diagnosing the steering and electrical/engine systems to find the intermittent fault.

The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that when he started the vehicle, the speed odometer was flickering. While driving my engine caught on fire. My safety was put at risk because I had to pull over and get out the car. Flames started coming from the hood of the car. I just dropped my newborn baby off 10 minutes prior and was around the corner from picking up my other child. I had to call 911 and wait for the fire department to come. I tried to put it out myself but the fire was too great and I was afraid it would explode. My check engine light was on but I was told it was for an old misfire. I haven’t not had any issues with my vehicle, I drive it to work everyday. Vehicle has not been inspected by insurance as I do not currently have active insurance on vehicle. Chrysler customer service states because vehicle is 13 years old they are not liable. No dodge dealership will look at vehicle because it will be difficult to find issue alas the vehicle is totaled. There is a recall R32 starting in 2011 for this model. My engine although made in 2010 is the same engine in the recall. 2.4 liter 4 cylinder.

DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD MY CAR SHUT OFF ON ITS OWN. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL TO GET IT STARTED AGAIN. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENS FREQUENTLY. I FOUND OUT THAT A RECALL ON THE IGNITION SWITCH MODULE HAD BEEN REPAIRED BUT IT IS STILL HEPENING SO I FEEL THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE REOPENED. IF IT GOES UNFIXED I FEAR IT WILL CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

THE CAR WILL NOT START
I HAVE HAD INTERMITTENT STARTING PROBLEMS, I PUT THE FOB IN , TURN THE KEY , THE DASH LIGHTS COME ON , THERE IS A CLICK , BUT IT WILL NOT TURN OVER. I CAN WAIT FROM A FEW MINUTES TO A COUPLE OF DAYS BEFORE IT WORKS AGAIN. THERE IS NO SET PATTERN AND WE HAVE HAD EVERYTHING CHECKED. IT LEFT US IN PARKING LOTS AT WORK BEFORE WHILE IT WONT START, CAUSING US TO BE LATE PICKING KIDS UP FROM SCHOOL AND EVEN AT THE STORE. LOOKING ONLINE MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAS HAS A ELECTRICAL GROUND PLACED FROM THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL TO THE ENGINE BLOCK AND STILL HAS ISSUES WILL STARTING.

THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED FIRST IN NOV. 2015 WITH AROUND 68000 MILES ON VEHICLE AND THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE OR CAUSED BY BAD WEATHER. IT STARTED TO HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES AGAIN MARCH/APRIL 2016. DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. TOOK IT BACK IN TO DEALERSHIP IN JUNE 2016, STILL COULD NOT FIND ISSUE. CONTINUED TO HAPPEN AND TOOK IT IN SEPTEMBER FOR THAT AND OTHER ISSUES (HORN GOING OFF RANDOMLY AND BATTERY DRAINING OVERNIGHT). NOW DEC 2016 AND THE CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING 3 TIMES THIS WEEK AND THE LAST TIME SOMEONE ALMOST REAR ENDED ME BECAUSE OF IT. MY LIFE AND MY CHILDREN'S LIFE ARE AT STAKE. IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED WHEN I AM GOING UNDER 45MPH AT THIS POINT AND ON SOME OCCASIONS IT IS WHILE I AM SLOWING DOWN TO TURN IN A PARKING SPACE BUT SOMETIMES IT IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD DRIVING. IT HAS HAPPENED IN THE MORNING/AFTERNOON/EVENING, RAIN, SNOW AND SUNSHINE, HOT AND COLD DAYS. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERYDAY WHICH MAKES THIS ISSUE EVEN WORSE I NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL OCCUR. THE ONLY ISSUE THAT REMAINS THE SAME IS THAT MY TRACTION SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON 90% OF THE TIME THIS OCCURS. I HAVE TOLD THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP EVERY TIME AND THEY STILL CANNOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE HAS A VERY LATE SHIFT IN THE TRANSMISSION. SO THEREFORE WHEN GETTING OFF RAMPS TO HWYS WON'T PICK UP THE MOMENTUM IT NEEDS FOR A MILE OR TWO DOWN THE ROAD. I SEE CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THIS IS NORMAL. I HAVE DROVE AND OWNED MANY OF CARS. I HAVE EVEN HAD ONE THAT HAD A TRANSMISSION THAT WAS GOING OUT AND IT DID BETTER THEN THIS CAR. I AM MAKING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE I WOULD HATE TO SEE AN ACCIDENT HAPPEN DUE TO THIS VERY LATE SHIFT IN THE TRANSMISSION.
I BROUGHT MY 2010 DODGE JOURNEY IN 2012, ABOUT A YEAR LATER, THE CARE STARTED TO STALL WHEN ON STARTING. NATURALLY, WE THOUGHT IS WAS THE BATTERY, SO WENT TO THE DODGE DEALER AND THEY AGREED. TWO WEEK LATER, THE CARE WOULD NOT START AFTER MY SONS BASEBALL CAME. SOMEONE GAVE ME A JUMP, SO I THOUGHT THAT I GOT A BAD BATTERY. TOWED CAR TO SHOP AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE STARTER WAS BAD. SO APPROXIMATELY. $250.00 LATER I HAVE A NEW BATTERY. THE CARE CONTINUES TO NOT START. THE DODGE JOURNEY IS THE MOST UNRELIABLE CAR I HAVE EVERY HAD. IT IS NOW SITTING IN MY GARAGE, BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR RAN HOT AND WILL NOT GO MORE THAN 30 MILES PER HOUR. I HAVE A CAR NOT AND CANNOT AFFORD TO GET FIXED. I AM TOLD THAT SOMETHING MAY BE WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION, BUT ONLY DEALER CAN WORK ON THIS SINCE THE TRANSMISSION IS BURIED UNDER EVERYTHING. THIS IS THE WORST VEHICLE I HAVE EVER BOUGHT. I PURCHASED IN 2012, IT WAS A LITTLE OVER 1 YEAR OLD. MULTIPLE ISSUES SINCE THEN. MOST RECENT, I REPLACED AN ENGINE. AN ENGINE IN A 2010. I TOOK MY CAR TO KAHLO DODGE IN INDIANA. WORST DEALER SERVICE EVER. RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL. THEY REPLACED A CLUSTER AND 1 HOUR LATER WE WERE BACK AT DODGE FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THEN THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID CHRYSLER SUPPLIES DEFECTIVE PARTS. WOW. IS THIS OK TO DO...WE PAY THOUSANDS FOR A VEHICLE AND CHRYSLER SUPPLIES DEFECTIVE PARTS??? WE TAKE IT BACK AND THEY FIX YET AGAIN. HOURS LATER, YOU GUESSED IT WE ARE BACK AGAIN AND THEY TELL US THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY ARE CLOSED. WE TAKE IT BACK THIS MONDAY AFTER THEY LET US DRIVE OFF IN AN UNSAFE VEHICLE AND THEY TELL US IT'S THE BREAKS AND SAID IT WAS GOING TO BE $700. THEN THEY TAKE IT APART AND SAY ITS NOT THAT PUT IT BACK TOGETHER TEST DRIVE IT AND TELL US IT'S THE MASTER SOLENOID AND IT WILL BE $1000. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF DODGE. I CALLED THE HELPLINE ONLY FOR THEM TO TELL ME A SUPERVISOR WILL CALL IN 1 BUSINESS DAY. 4 BUSINESS DAYS LATER I CALL THEM BACK AND GET A"SUPERVISOR" WHO WILL "LOOK INTO " MY ISSUES. I AM DONE. FILING A LAW SUIT, CALLING LOCAL TV STATIONS, ENOUGH DODGE!!! DO THE RIGHT THING, READ THESE POSTS AND FIX THESE ISSUES. CAR WOULD NOT START. TURN THE KEY TO START AND HEAR A FEW CLICKS, NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. ALL THE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND RADIO BUT NO START. ONLY HAPPENED ON OCCASION AT FIRST MAYBE ONCE OR TWICE A MONTH. WOULD LET IT SIT AND TRY AGAIN AND WOULD START. OVER THE PAST 8 MONTHS ITS GOTTEN TO THE POINT NOW THAT IT HAS TO SIT 4-6 HOURS BEFORE IT WILL START SOMETIMES LONGER, HAD THE STARTER CHECKED, THE ALTERNATOR AND REPLACED THE BATTERY. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPORTED NO PROBLEM ALTHOUGH WHEN WE TEST DROVE THE CAR THE ! LIGHT IN THE DASH CAME ON. SO THEY HAD ME WAIT ABOUT 20 ADDITIONAL MINUTES TO FIX THE ISSUE. SINCE I HAVE GOTTEN MY CAR BACK IT NOW SHUTS COMPLETELY OFF WHEN I COME TO A STOP. I AM FREAKED OUT AND DEVASTATED BY MY OVERWHELMING CONCERN FOR MY 5YR SON AND MYSELF. I JUST AM CURRENTLY NOT FEELING THE "DEPENDABLE DODGE" STATEMENT. HOPEFULLY DODGE RECOGNIZES THAT THIS IS HAPPENING OFTEN AND FIXES IT BEFORE A DEATH OCCURS. 2010 DODGE JOURNEY, WHILE RETURNING THIS VEHICLE TO THE RENTAL OFFICE ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED. BOTH HAD BEEN GOING ABOUT 5 MPH AND WERE ABOUT 35 TO 40 FEET APART WHEN THE DODGE JOURNEY ENGINE STARTED TO RACE AND THE VEHICLE IN FRONT WAS STRUCK, WOULD NOT STOP EVEN THOUGHT THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. AFTER THE ACCIDENT WHILE THE FRONT SEAT PERSONS WERE OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE LOOKING AT THE DAMAGE ON BOTH VEHICLES THE DODGE ENGINE STARTED TO RACE AGAIN WITH NO ONE IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, IT WAS SHUT OFF AT THIS POINT. AFTER NAMES AND SO FORTH WERE EXCHANGED [ BOTH VEHICLES WERE RENTALS] THE DODGE WAS RESTARTED AND RAN FINE INTO THE RETURN AREA. WHILE THEY WERE CHECKING IT IN AND THE VEHICLE RETURN AGENT WAS SHOWN THE DAMAGE HE WENT OVER TO CHECK THE GAS LEVEL. UNDERSTAND, AGAIN AT THIS TIME THERE WAS NO ONE INSIDE THE RENTAL VEHICLE AT ALL. EVERYONE WAS OUTSIDE STANDING AROUND. AS THE CAR RENTAL AGENT STARTED TO LOOK INSIDE THE ENGINE STARTED RACING AGAIN, IN FACT HE ACTUALLY JUMPED BACK AND I REACHED IN AND SHUT IT DOWN. THIS WAS REPORTED TO THE INSURANCE PEOPLE AND AFTER SEVERAL CALLS THE FINALLY SAID THAT THE RENTAL COMPANY HAD INSPECTED THE CAR BY TAKING IT TO A DEALER WHO LOOKED AT THE ENGINE AND TEST DROVE IT AND NOTHING HAPPENED SO THE VEHICLE WAS ALRIGHT. THE AGENT WHO CHECKED IT IN WAS NEVER CONTACTED AND NONE OF THE PEOPLE IN EITHER VEHICLE WERE ASKED ABOUT THE ENGINE RACING. I UNDERSTAND THAT FOR AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING 6 OR 7 THOUSAND DOLLARS THEY ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE A CAR APART BUT IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS A BOX THAT CAN TELL WHAT WAS GOING ON JUST PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT.
