WHILE DRIVING THE CAR HOME AT ONLY 35 MPH, MY WIFE HEARD A LARGE BANG AND IMMEDIATELY LOST THE POWER STEERING, BUT WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. WHEN I WAS ABLE TO CHECK UNDER THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE, I FOUND THAT THE ALUMINUM CASTING HAD BROKEN THAT HOLDS THE BRACKET FOR THE ALTERNATOR. THE ALTERNATOR AND SERPENTINE BELTS WERE LAYING NEAR THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I TOOK PHOTOS OF THE PROBLEM SINCE I KNOW IT IS NOT USUAL FOR THE CASTING TO BREAK. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE CHRYSLER DEALER THAT WE HAVE HAD ALL THE SERVICE FOR THE VEHICLE PERFORMED. I EXPLAINED THAT I WAS CONCERNED THAT THE CASTING BROKE AND THEY SEEMED CONCERNED ALSO AT THAT POINT. THEY STATED THAT THEY HAD NOT SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. I HAD THE REPAIRS MADE AT A COST OF OVER $1500.00. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE CVR PKG-ENGINE BECAUSE THE BREAK WAS PART OF THE CASTING FOR THE COVER OF THAT PART. I THEN CONTACTED THE CHRYSLER DODGE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND TOLD THEM I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AND THAT IF MY WIFE HAD BEEN GOING 75 ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND ROUNDING A CURVE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, SUCH A BREAK COULD EASILY CAUSE CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE, INJURY, OR DEATH. I TOLD THEM THAT I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS NOT A NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR OR MAINTENANCE ITEM, BUT A MANUFACTURING DEFECT SINCE THE ALUMINUM CASTING BROKE AND NOT THE BRACKET. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE CASE MANAGER ONLY CAME BACK WITH A STATEMENT THAT THE VEHICLE HAD 138000 MILES AND THEY COULD OFFER ME ONLY $465.00 TOWARD THE REPAIRS. THERE WAS NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT, OR CONCERN THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. WHILE I BELIEVE THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD PAY FOR THE ENTIRE REPAIRS, I AM MORE CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD BE A POTENTIAL LIFE THREATENING SITUATION FOR OTHER UNKNOWING DRIVERS. I HAVE A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SX. I HAVE HAD TROUBLE SINCE ONE MONTH OF BUYING IT. I TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. SINCE THEN, I'VE TAKEN IT BACK NUMEROUS TIMES. THEY EVEN KEPT IT FOR A WEEK AND SAID THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. I WOULD HAVE TO GET IT BACK TO THEM WHEN IT HAD STOPPED. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN I'M DRIVING ALL THE INSTRUMENT NEEDLES GO TO NULL. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, IT STARTS TO LOSE POWER. I ONCE WAS IN THE FAST LANE ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WHEN I HAPPENED TO LOOK DOWN AND EVERY NEEDLE HAD GONE DOWN. I GOT IN THE LOW LANE AND PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY FOR SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN IT WENT DEAD IMMEDIATELY! I CALLED ROADSIDE SERVICE. WHEN I TURNED THE KEY TO CHECK MY MILEAGE IT STARTED UP IMMEDIATELY. THAT WAS SCARY, BECAUSE IF I HADN'T LOOKED DOWN WHEN I DID AND IT LOST POWER BEFORE I COULD GET IT OFF THE HIGHWAY, I BELIEVE THE OUTCOME WOULD'VE BEEN TRAGIC. THIS ONLY HAPPENED ONCE A YEAR OR ONCE EVERY SIX MONTHS. HOWEVER, ONE NEVER KNEW WHEN IT WOULD HAPPEN NEXT! THE LAST TIME I DROVE IT FOR SOME DISTANCE I HAD ALMOST GOTTEN HOME (WITHIN TWO MILES) IT DID IT AGAIN, THIS TIME THREE TIMES BEFORE I COULD GET HOME. I FEEL BLESSED. TO SAY THE LEASE, I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN IT AND I'M STILL PAYING FOR THIS TRAP. MY WIFE DROVE IT TO DEALER IN THE MORNING. THERE WAS NO OIL IN MOTOR. THE DEALER CLAIMS I AM RESPONSIBLE SINCE I DID NOT CHANGE THE OIL IN 6 MONTHS AND 7000 MILES. CHRYSLER RUDELY DENIES COVERAGE EVEN THOUGH I AM UNDER WARRANTY, I PURCHASED THE CAR MARCH 2008 WITH 35000 MILES OR SO..IT HAS BEEN IN FOR SERVICE BEFORE FOR A REPLACEMENT OF RACK AND PINION SYSTEM AND AN ENGINE LIGHT INCIDENT. *TR

THEY CHECKED THE VAN OUT AND SAID THE ENGINE WAS MESSED UP. IT WAS ENGINE BLOCK. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS TO INDICATE ANY PROBLEM. WE HAD OUR OIL CHANGED WE HAVE ONE RECEIPT ABOUT ONE OR TWO WEEKS OLD, CAN NOT LOCATE THE OTHER RECEIPTS. THEY CLAIM THEY TESTED THE OIL AND IT IS DIRTY. DAILMER CHRYSLER CORPORATION IS TURNING US DOWN ON REPAIRS AND WE ARE ONLY GOING TO RECEIVE 1 DAY RENTAL CHANGE OF $35.00. THE DEALER SAID TELL WOULD TAKE $150.00 OFF OUR $3800.00 PLUS BILL NOT INCLUDING TAXES. THERE HAS BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM. FIRST I TOLD THEM TO REPAIR THE 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SO IT WOULD NOT VOID THE SO CALLED WARRANTY AFTER THE SHOCK OF THE BAD NEWS. FIRST I WOULD LIKE YOU TO INVESTIGATE THIS. SECOND I HOPE THAT OTHERS WILL BE PROTECTED BY YOUR INVESTIGATION, SO THEY WILL NOT HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS ORDEAL. THIRD RENTAL CAR COST IS GOING TO BE AROUND $1500.00 APPROX. THE CONSUMER INDICATED THAT THE PIPE IS ONLY LIKE THIS ON THE STOW AND GO MODEL GRAND CARAVAN. UPDATED 5/10/2006 - THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE HAD TO BE REPLACED AND REROUTED. THE ENGINE RAN ROUGH WHILE IDLING AND IN PARK. THE FUEL GAUGE WAS ERRATIC. AT 1/4 OF A TANK OR LESS THE NEEDLE MOVES BACK AND FORTH FROM EMPTY TO 1/4 OF A TANK. *NM

ON JAN 22,05 I HAD MY 05' DODGE GRAND CARAVAN IN THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE MY AIR BAG LIGHT HAD COME ON, THEY SUPPOSEDLY REPLACED MY SENSOR ALONG W/ MY WIRING HARNESS, WELL ON FEB 26 06 MY AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, THE DEALERSHIP DEAL MAKER SAID I COULD BRING MY CAR IN BUT I'LL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT TO BE CHECKED ALONG W/ ANY REPAIR, AND THIS IS BECAUSE MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. I DON'T FEEL I AM RESPONSIBLE TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIR ON THIS. NONE THE LESS FOR THEM TO SUPPOSEDLY REPLACE MY SENSOR LAST YEAR, ALONG W/ MY WIRING HARNESS AND SPARK PLUGS BEAUSE OF MISFIRING ETC. TO HAVE BOUGHT THIS CAR USED IN NOV OF 04 AND THEN TO HAVE IT IN ON JAN 05 IS A LITTLE RIDICULOUS. I HAVE 40 SOME THOUSAND MILES ON MY CAR. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WERE MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WERE THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION STUCK IN FIRST GEAR THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP WHICH REPLACED THE VEIL BODY. TWO YEARS LATER THE VEHICLE STALLED TWICE WHILE IDLING. UPON INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED ALTHOUGH THE RPMS INCREASED THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE TRANSMISSION STUCK IN SECOND GEAR AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER REBUILT THE TRANSMISSION. LATER, WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND GEARS THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSORS. AFTERWARDS THE TRANSMISSION HAD SLIPPAGE AND WAS SLOW TO ACCELERATE. EVERY INCIDENT OCCURRED AT 40 MPH OR LESS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. UPDATED 03/09/06

MY THREE YOUNG CHILDREN WERE BURNT ON THE EXHAUST PIPE OF OUR 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN W/STO & GO SEATS. WHILE REACHING THEIR LEG UNDER THE VAN, TO RETRIEVE A QUARTER THEY DROPPED, THEY EACH RECEIVED 1ST & 2ND DEGREE BURNS ON THEIR LEGS. THE COIN WAS ONLY A FEW INCHES UNDER THE VAN; YOU COULD SEE IT BY STANDING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE. WHEN STANDING ALONG THE PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE YOU CAN PLAINLY SEE THE EXHAUST PIPE JUST SEVERAL INCHES UNDER THE SLIDING SIDE DOOR. *NM

PURCHASED A 2005 DOGE GRAND CARAVAN FROM BOB CALDWELL DODGE DEALERSHIP ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. A LITTLE OVER A MONTH OF HAVING THE VEHICLE THE AIR CONDITIONING JUST STOP PUTTING OUT COOL AIR AND WE NOTICEDS SOME SPOTS OF SOMETHING LEAKING IN THE DRIVE WAY. WE TOOK THE VEHICHLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED AND THEY INDICATED THAT A STONE OR ROCK HAD WENT THROUGH THE AIR CONDITIONER'S COMPRESSOR. THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND IT WOULD BE $800+ TO FIX IT. THEY INDICATED ALSO THAT WE WEREN'T THE FIRST AND THAT BECAUSE OF THE DESIGN AND THE PLACEMENT OF THE COMPRESSOR THAT WE WON'T BE THE LAST AND EVEN IF WE FIX IT, IT WILL PROBABLY HAPPEN AGAIN. WE CALLED DODGE DIRECTLY AND THEY SPOKE WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND AGREED THAT THIS WAS NOT SOMETHING THAT THEY WOULD CONSIDERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY AND DENIED TO COVER THE PAYMENT OF THE SERVICES. WE CALLED AROUND LOCALLY TO OTHER DEALERSHIPS AND THERE WAS A TOTAL OF 5 IN LESS THEN ONE WEEK AND ALL AGREE THAT IS WAS SOME SORT OF DESIGN/PLACEMENT FLAW AND THAT THIS WOULD CONTINUE TO HAPPEN. WE COULD ATTACH A SCREEN PROTECTION SOMEHOW TO THE FRONT TO PROTECT THE COMPRESSOR BUT STILL NO GUARENTEES.

MY 2005 DODGE CARAVAN IS 9 MONTHS OLD AND ONE DAY I'M DRIVING AND MY ENGINE STARTS MAKING A TAPPING NOISEAND THE OIL LIGHT COMES ON. THE NEXT DAY (MONDAY) I TAKE IT TO STAFFORD DODGE DEALER (ROBERT STOCKING). THEY TELL ME I HAVE LESS THAN 1 QT OF OIL IN MY CAR SO I NEED TO HAVE MY ENGINE BLOCK REPLACED. I INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP THAT I HAD MY OIL CHANGED 1 MONTH AGO BY JIFFY LUBE, AND ALSO HAD CHECKED MY OIL 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE INCEDENT AND MY OIL WAS AT THE MAX LINE. THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED DAIMLER CHRYSLER (STEVE SHOOF) AND INFORMED THEM ON WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND CHYRSLER DENIED THE CLAIM, THEREFORE, I WAS STUCK PAYING $5,070 PLUS $500 FOR A RENTAL CAR FOR TWO WEEKS WHILE MY CAR WAS BEING REPAIRED. ACTUALLY I DID FIND OUT WHEN I WENT TO PAY FOR MY CAR A NOTE WAS ON ONE OF THE MECHANICS RECEIPTS SAYING THAT THE CAR HAD THE WRONG DIPSTICK INSTALLED IN MY CAR; WHICH PROBABLY LEAD TO THE OIL AERATION. I WENT BACK TO LOOK AT MY JIFFY LUBE RECEIPTS AND ONE OF THE NOTES IN 10 NOV 04 STATED THAT THE OIL LEVEL WAS HIGH WHEN THEY TRIED TO CHANGE MY OIL FOR THE FIRST TIME AND THOUGHT POSSIBLY THAT I MAY HAVE THE WRONG DIPSTICK. THE PERSONNEL AT JIFFY LUBE NEVER TOLD ME DIRECTLY THAT I MAY HAVE HAD THE WRONG DIPSTICK THEY ONLY NOTED IT ON THE RECEIPT. IF I HAD BEEN TOLD I WOULD HAVE WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DODGE DEALER. I'M ASSUMING WITH ALL THE TROUBLE JIFFY LUBE HAD TRYING TO READ MY DIPSTICK WHEN IN ALL ACTUALITY THE DIPSTICK WAS 6 INCHES TOO LONG (PER THE DODGE MAINTENANCE MANAGER) THEREFORE IT LEAD TO OIL AERATION AND LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE. THE MAINTENACE MANAGER(JOHN VERNE) AT THE DEALERSHIP GAVE ME THE DIPSTICK THAT WAS REMOVED FROM MY CAR. MAYBE YOU CAN ASSIST ME IN GETTING THIS MATTER RESOLVED. I HAVE 4 CHILDREN TO SUPPORT AND I HAD TO TAKE THE $5,070 OUT OF MY CHECKING ACCOUNT SO I COULD HAVE A CAR TO DRIVE TO GET TO WORK.
