Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 995)
Fuel/propulsion System →4 issues
Your Caravan is leaking gasoline from the top of the fuel tank. You mention there may have been a recall for this issue over 15 years ago, though it's no longer listed. You're also experiencing a separate catalytic converter problem.

Your van repeatedly loses power and stalls within a quarter-mile after you fill up the gas tank, often at dangerous moments like climbing hills or at busy intersections. This happens consistently after refueling, even though your van has been well-maintained with no accidents. The issue likely involves the fuel system's ability to properly handle a full tank, and may require inspection of the fuel pump, filter, or pressure regulator.

Your fuel pump has developed a hairline crack right where it connects to the fuel line. This type of crack can potentially cause fuel leaks, which could lead to performance issues or safety concerns if left unaddressed. The repair will likely involve replacing the fuel pump assembly.

Your fuel tank is leaking from the top, and you believe the fuel pump is the source. The leak only appears when your engine is running, not when the car is parked. This will need inspection and likely repair or replacement of the fuel pump assembly.

Air Bags →3 issues
Your airbags may not have deployed properly during a crash. This is a serious safety concern that needs immediate investigation, as airbags are critical for protecting you and your passengers during an accident.

Your airbag warning light has been on for several weeks and won't turn off. A clock spring was already replaced, but the light persisted. A diagnostic code indicates a problem with the airbag squib (the component that triggers the airbag to deploy). The repair will likely involve diagnosing the airbag system with specialized equipment and replacing the faulty squib or other airbag electrical components.

Your airbag warning light is flickering on and off, which according to your owner's manual means your airbags won't deploy in a crash. You believe there's a recall for your 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan that affects airbags, but the recall system shows zero recalls for your vehicle identification number. This is a serious safety concern for your family. Addressing this will likely require a diagnostic scan of your airbag system and potentially replacement of faulty airbag control module components or wiring.

Engine,fuel/propulsion System →2 issues
Your car stalls a few minutes after you fill up the gas tank, and it can stall while you're driving on the road. When this happens, the engine won't restart for about 20 minutes, which creates a dangerous situation. The problem likely involves the fuel system's ability to properly manage pressure or fuel flow after refueling.

After filling up your gas tank, your engine misfires and stalls shortly after leaving the gas station, creating a safety hazard when you're trying to merge into traffic. This is a known issue affecting 2005 Dodge Grand Caravans and other Chrysler minivans across multiple model years. The problem is likely caused by a failed vapor/liquid separator valve on top of the fuel tank, which cannot be repaired separately—the entire fuel tank must be replaced.

Tires →1 issue
While driving at 30 mph, your front driver's side tire completely detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic, but they were unable to reproduce the problem or determine the cause. The mechanic provided a repair estimate, though the specific issue wasn't diagnosed.

Electrical System,service Brakes,engine →1 issue
While driving at 35 mph, your van suddenly lost all electrical power, which disabled your power steering and brakes. You were able to safely pull into a parking lot, but the van wouldn't restart normally and then wouldn't go faster than 15 mph even with the pedal fully down, stalling 8-10 times over the last mile home. This suggests a serious electrical system failure that shut down critical engine and brake functions. The repair will likely involve diagnosing the electrical system, battery, and alternator to restore power to the engine and brake systems.

Electrical System →1 issue
While driving at 40 mph, your alternator suddenly detached from the engine without any warning. This caused your vehicle to lose all electrical power, and you had to have it towed home. The alternator will need to be reinstalled or replaced, and the mounting brackets should be inspected to prevent this from happening again.

Steering →1 issue
Your power steering stops working during heavy rain, making the steering wheel tight and hard to turn. This has happened five times, and mechanics have found no issues when they inspect it. After turning the engine off and waiting about 15 minutes, the power steering works again. The problem only occurs in wet conditions, suggesting water may be getting into the steering system.

Electrical System,exterior Lighting →1 issue
Your van's passenger-side tail light caught fire while you were driving, with flames visible on the side of the vehicle. You had previously noticed the brake light bulb on that same side burning out frequently and saw signs of overheating and melting in the connector socket around 2010, but the melting hadn't worsened until this fire occurred. The tail light assembly and wiring harness were destroyed, and there is body damage to the van.

Exterior Lighting →1 issue
Your headlights won't turn on, even though no warning light appeared on your dashboard. This happened while your vehicle was parked, and the problem hasn't been diagnosed or repaired yet. The manufacturer confirmed this issue isn't covered by a recall for your vehicle. Fixing this will likely involve checking the headlight switch, wiring, or replacing the headlight bulbs and/or the headlight assembly.

Electrical System,latches/locks/linkages →1 issue
Your power door locks stopped working without any warning. Only the driver's side door could be opened manually with the key. Disconnecting the battery temporarily fixed the problem, but it failed again shortly after. This issue involves both the electrical and locking systems and may require professional diagnosis.

Steering,power Train,vehicle Speed Control →1 issue
While driving at about 35 mph, your van suddenly lost power and shut off completely, then wouldn't restart. This is a serious problem that could leave you stranded in traffic, though fortunately it happened on a regular road rather than a highway. The issue likely involves the engine, fuel system, or electrical system, and will need diagnostic testing to identify whether it's a fuel pump, starter motor, alternator, or another component preventing the engine from running.

Service Brakes →1 issue
Your ABS, brake, and traction control warning lights came on in early 2020. Your vehicle has lost both ABS and traction control, which is particularly concerning in winter driving conditions. A mechanic diagnosed a communication problem with the ABS module itself—not a power or ground issue. The vehicle is still being driven without these safety features while awaiting repair.

Unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your transmission cable is broken, so your van won't shift into Park automatically. You have to manually move the shift lever into Park by hand. Before the cable completely broke, you were already experiencing difficulty shifting gears.

Power Train,exterior Lighting,fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
You recently purchased this van and found 6 recalls listed on NHTSA for the 2004 model year doors, but the Chrysler dealer in Hemet, California told you there are no recalls for this vehicle. Your check engine light is on, and you're experiencing sudden power train issues where the vehicle kicks or drags unexpectedly. You'll need to contact Chrysler directly or visit another dealer to verify which recalls actually apply and get the engine diagnostic fault codes read and repaired.
