Filed: May 2015

Your instrument gauges and lights flicker erratically, and your van loses electrical power to the ignition without warning, causing it to stall while driving—including in front of traffic. The engine restarts fine sometimes but then dies again when accelerating or slowing down, with the problem repeating unpredictably. Your van runs normally one moment and then lurches, jerks, and stalls the next, creating a serious safety hazard. The issue likely involves the alternator, battery, or ignition switch, and needs professional electrical diagnosis to identify the intermittent fault.

You discovered that your minivan's odometer mileage has been tampered with and is inaccurate. The seller claimed the vehicle had 90,000 miles, and while the odometer showed just over 90,000, the Motor Vehicle Department determined the reading was not accurate. This is a documentation and title issue rather than a mechanical problem with the vehicle itself.

Filed: Nov 2015

Your instrument panel lights go out when you use your turn signal to make a right or left turn. An independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle but couldn't locate the specific cause of the problem. The issue may involve a faulty turn signal switch, a wiring problem, or a failing instrument cluster that needs repair or replacement.

NHTSA #: 10788307
Fuel/propulsion System3 issues
highFUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: May 2017

Your fuel lines are leaking and your fuel filter is clogged, which caused your van to start stalling while driving and then fail to start the next day. You paid $100 to have this fixed. The repair likely involved replacing the fuel filter and sealing or replacing the leaking fuel lines.

NHTSA #: 10984562
highFUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Jan 2015

Your fuel system is leaking. A mechanic found that the fuel rail—the component that distributes fuel to your engine—needs to be replaced. This leak should be fixed before you continue driving to prevent fuel loss and potential safety issues.

NHTSA #: 10680072
highFUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Nov 2013

The rubber fuel hose that connects your fuel tank to the fuel rail keeps popping off from the steel fuel line. This happens at the connection point where the jumper hose attaches to the fuel rail on your 3.3L V-6 engine. You may notice fuel smell or fuel leaking from under the hood. The fix will likely involve reattaching or replacing the fuel hose and checking the connection fitting for damage or wear.

NHTSA #: 10550782
Seat Belts1 issue
criticalSEAT BELTS
CrashFiled: Nov 2016

Your seat belt failed to tighten properly during a front-end collision at 35-40 mph, allowing your leg to strike the dashboard and resulting in serious injuries including a displaced fracture and crushed tibia. The seat belt did not function as designed to restrain your body during the crash. A repair or replacement of the seat belt system would be needed to prevent this failure.

Air Bags,vehicle Speed Control,unknown Or Other1 issue
criticalAIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
Filed: Feb 2016

Your horn, cruise control, and airbag warning light have all stopped working at the same time. This is likely caused by a failed clock spring, which is the coiled electrical connector under the steering wheel that connects to your airbag system. This is a safety concern that should be diagnosed and repaired by a qualified technician, as the airbag system may not function properly if the clock spring is faulty.

Electrical System,air Bags1 issue
criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
Filed: Nov 2014

Your airbag warning light stays on all the time, and the buttons on your steering wheel don't work. The dealer says this is likely caused by a defective clock spring, which could prevent your airbags from deploying in a crash. This needs to be fixed to ensure your airbags work properly if you're in an accident.

NHTSA #: 10658714
Electrical System,engine,fuel/propulsion System1 issue
criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Filed: Oct 2013

Your van is stalling at stops and while driving, causing you to lose power steering and brakes. When you try to restart it, the engine accelerates on its own even with the brake pedal pressed. A mechanic found that the wiring harness for the fuel rail is melted because it's positioned directly above the hot exhaust manifold, and this damage can potentially cause a fire. The fix will require replacing the fuel rail wiring harness and repositioning it away from the exhaust manifold heat.

NHTSA #: 10548904
Service Brakes, Hydraulic, engine And Engine Cooling1 issue
criticalSERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC,ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
Filed: Apr 2013

Your van is experiencing multiple fluid system failures where brake lines, coolant lines, and the water pump housing have corroded through from the inside, causing leaks. You may also notice hard steering that's difficult to turn, flickering lights, and engine overheating. Addressing these issues will likely require replacing the corroded brake lines, coolant hoses, water pump housing, and having the cooling and brake systems flushed and refilled.

NHTSA #: 10509770
Engine And Engine Cooling1 issue
criticalENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
Filed: Aug 2012

Your van is overheating, especially when the air conditioner is running. The cooling fans aren't engaging when the AC is on, and the AC isn't staying cool. Your van broke down and started smoking from under the hood and undercarriage, which suggests a serious cooling system failure. The fix will likely involve replacing the cooling fan motor or its relay, checking the AC compressor, and inspecting the cooling system for leaks or blockages.

NHTSA #: 10470602
Air Bags,vehicle Speed Control1 issue
highAIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
Filed: May 2015

Your airbag warning light stays on constantly, and at the same time your cruise control and horn have stopped working. These three issues appearing together suggest a potential electrical or sensor problem in your vehicle's safety and control systems. A diagnostic scan will likely be needed to identify the root cause and determine what repairs are necessary.

NHTSA #: 10716147
Exterior Lighting1 issue
highEXTERIOR LIGHTING
Filed: May 2014

Your daytime running lights and headlights are turning on and off unpredictably — sometimes only the driver's side light works, and switching between regular lights and high beams causes the opposite side to turn off. Both lights flicker when they're both on, and the problem has worsened over time despite the dealer replacing the multi-function switch. This leaves you with unreliable headlights that could pose a safety risk when driving at night.

NHTSA #: 10594564
Fuel System, Gasoline,structure1 issue
highFUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,STRUCTURE
Filed: Jun 2013

Your van has had recurring fuel system problems over three years, requiring a fuel pump replacement and multiple repair visits with increasing deductible costs. You've noticed online that other Dodge Caravans have had similar issues recalled, and you're looking for help getting this repaired without additional out-of-pocket expenses. Additionally, your passenger sliding door opens on its own while driving and won't latch properly until multiple attempts.

NHTSA #: 10520652
Fuel System, Gasoline1 issue
highFUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
Filed: Jun 2013

While driving on the highway at about 65 mph, your car suddenly lost power and stalled. The fuel pressure was found to be very low. The fuel system likely needs inspection to restore normal fuel delivery.

NHTSA #: 10515846
Air Bags1 issue
highAIR BAGS
Filed: Nov 2012

Your airbag warning light is coming on intermittently, especially when you turn, and it stays on as the problem gets worse. Your steering wheel controls and horn have also stopped working. Based on research, a failed clock spring (the coil that connects your steering wheel to the car's electrical system) appears to be the cause. Fixing this will likely require replacing the clock spring assembly in your steering column.

NHTSA #: 10484701
Steering1 issue
highSTEERING
Filed: Jan 2012

Your steering wheel became increasingly difficult to turn, especially in cold weather. You've had to replace the power steering pump and flush the system, but the problem kept returning. Two mechanics told you the steering rack and pinion (the component that converts the steering wheel's motion into tire movement) needs replacement, and they noted this is a common failure in Dodge/Chrysler minivans. Fixing this will require replacing the steering rack and pinion assembly.

NHTSA #: 10443824
Suspension1 issue
highSUSPENSION
Filed: Dec 2011

You hear a clunking noise from your suspension when you apply the brakes. A mechanic found that the lower control arm pivot bolt is fractured, which is a suspension component that helps control your wheel movement. Your vehicle's VIN wasn't included in a recall for this same issue, so the dealer won't help. The fix will require replacing the fractured lower control arm pivot bolt.

NHTSA #: 10440062
Electrical System,exterior Lighting1 issue
mediumELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Filed: Feb 2014

When you use either turn signal, the dashboard lights cut off completely and then return a few seconds later. The exterior turn signal lights don't blink properly, and the interior turn signals blink inconsistently without making any sound. This issue may require diagnosis of the turn signal relay, wiring, or lighting control module.

NHTSA #: 10564648
