2015 Dodge Durango Lights Problems

The lift gate light housing assembly develops cracks due to design flaw, allowing housing assembly to fill with water and cause lights to malfunction. The housing assembly is available for inspection upon request. The rear lights of the vehicle are not functioning as intended and can cause rear end vehicle collision, which car cause injury or worst to the passengers.

Whether it rains or I get my the vehicle washed, water collects in both sides of the tail light and shorts the LED out. This poses a risk of night time rear-end collisions if the entire light shorts out which I am afraid it may eventually. The cost is over $1000 to replace it because it is one, big assembly which houses both the left and right lights and also the backup camera.

I have contacted fca (fiat chrysler of america) about the highly common issue with the tail lamp issue on my vehicle as well as many others having the exact same issue. In cold temperatures my center 'track bar' and passenger tail lamp don't turn on whatsoever including the LED brake light or turn signal on the one side.

Race track lighting on rear lift gate has burned out. Lighting fixture is supposed to be sealed. Moisture was able to get into lighting fixture causing light to burn out.

Water leaks into rear light on the tailgate on a regular basis. I have noticed that the taillights have leaked and now the build/LED is staring to go out. This seems to be a widespread problem, others have mentioned removing bolts to let moisture escape. Only problem is now the light has been damaged, and I don't understand why the manufacturer would think unscrewing the light housing would be acceptable to fix a mistake on their end!

The rear hatch light assemby has a leak and holds water. Took to dealer for repairs was told LED lights not covered under warranty.

I noticed that there is a crack or opening in the race track light of the dodge durango trucks from 2015 and above. I have a dodge durango like my wife, my neighbor, and my mothers neighbor. All of us have an opening at the top of our racetrack lights where the light is not completely seal and the opening is enough to allow water to get in and settle into the light.

In march of 2019 a policeman in my hometown stopped me and told me my taillight on my 2015 dodge durango was out. On further examination the policeman and I discovered that part of my tail light was not lit up and that my tail light has water in it. We can see the moisture and the water line.

The center LED light on my durango somehow has water in it; the water originally caused a short on one side that dimmed the light. I first noticed december 2018 when a motorist stopped me after taking a picture. As of january 21, 2019 the light has completely went out due to the water damage.

I am providing some updated information and photos to a previous complaint (NHTSA id# 11139459) I filed regarding the rear liftgate lights (racetrack LED light) on my dodge durango. Water has entered the rear liftgate light assembly causing it to intermittently work or at times flicker. This may cause confusion to drivers behind my vehicle, as to whether I am braking or not.

I am filing a complaint regarding a serious safety defect in the 2014-2023 Dodge Durango racetrack taillight assembly. The taillight allows moisture intrusion, leading to electrical failures, overheating, and potential fire hazards. This issue is the subject of a class action lawsuit [XXX] , et al., v. Driver side and third row passenger side seat belts have stopped retracting, will not retract. Exterior tail light is going out due to faulty manufacturer seal, water gets in and destroys tail light from inside which also lets water get into license plate bulb and makes the license plate bulbs burn out constantly. I feel unsafe driving my vehicle due to the seatbelt not retracting, if I have to slam on my brakes, the seal belt does not lock up like it should. I cannot have a passenger in the third row passenger side due to the seatbelt being loose and not retracting at all. Vehicle has not been reproduced, confirmed or inspected yet by anyone other than myself and passengers. No warnings before any of the issues.

Rear gasket on tail light assembly is faulty and causes water to leak in to rear running light and the light fails and doesn't work anymore. I'm requesting an investigation or recall on the rear assembly to have them fixed or replaced for safety and uniformity. The OEM part number is 68453659AA

The racetrack style light on the back of my vehicle has water buildup on the inside. It has started to burn out the light. The unit is still partially functional so it's not available for inspection. The left license plate light on my vehicle doesn't function due to the corrosion inside the connector as well. This is a safety risk due to other driver not being able to see my Vehicle clearly during night or other conditions. There were no warning indicators on the dash about this issue. The Vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than myself.

The rear back light in my dodge Durango went out on it own and I've seen multiple Durango with the same issue . I’ve attached example . Ive seen multiple cars with this same issue so there has be manufacturers issue

The racetrack light bar located on the trunk door is dimming due to water intrusion from the poor/lack of sealing on the light. This lack of sealing keeps making water go in to the light, thus reducing the car's visibility at night. A lot of Durangos have this problem and there is no fix from the dealer, other than buying a new $1,300.00 light. The only thing we can do is to actually drain the water once a week by removing screws in the light bar, but at last, this only prolongs the inevitable. Some folks have resorted to removing the light from the tailgate and applying plastic friendly silicone to prevent water intrusion. Still, water enters the light bar. It's a shame.

Rear "Racetrack" break light filled with water and now has stopped working.

THE HEADREST ON THE PASSENGER SEAT JUST POPPED OPEN WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. THE REAR VIEW CAMERA OFTEN DOESN'T RESPOND IMMEDIATELY WHEN WE PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE OR JUST STAYS BLACK FOR AWHILE. NAVIGATION IS SLOW SOMETIMES. IT SEEMS TO BE THE THE SYSTEM KEEPS ON RESETTING BECAUSE MY RADIO STATIONS ARE ERASED WHEN I TURN ON THE CAR. THE REPROGRAM AND IT CONTINUES TO DO THAT. WHEN WE ARE DRIVING THERE IS A SOUND COMING FROM THE DASHBOARD. LIKE A RATTLELING SOUND. WE STILL HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT WHAT IT IS. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN WE ARE DRIVING AND IT SEEMS LIKE A GEAR IS SHIFTED WHEN WE DID NOT STEP ON THE GAS.

The center light on the truck has to be replaced many times due to the light going out due to water intrusion. This is a causes the light to go out and be a safety hazard

Cracks in the side trim of race track (tail) light are present at bolts that attach light housing to vehicle. This has allowed moisture into the area of the led tail lights. Tail lights are no longer working correctly.

Rear tail panel of LED strips is out at all times, causing a safety concern. Started with lower right side of ribbon light out, now the entire strip is out, including the required tag lights. Started when I only had about 60k miles on it.

60,000 mile garage kept durango with p0455 (evap purge hose crack) check engine light. Warranty is out (so much for my extended warranty- wont cover) and dealership wont repair without charging me. There are numerous TSB 25-002-15 regarding this problem.

My vehicle has a LED light bar assembly on the lift gate that includes what dodge calls a "race track" tail light, plus the reverse lights, and rear license plate lights. These are all in one assembly. This assembly has a fault or short to ground that causes it to not illuminate the "race track" tail light and the rear license plate lights.

The center tail light (referred to as the "racetrack" went completely out, as well as the two LED license plate illumination lamps. It was discovered in early september 2018. The vehicle was in park at the time, and running with headlights on.

Water leaking into rear liftgate light

The race track brake lighting on the back hatch has filled with water and failed safety inspection. There are no scrapes, scratches, or any indication that anything is damaged. There have been numerous complaints from other owners with similar lighting and the fix is over $1,000.

Seals around the rear liftgate racetrack lighting have allowed water to enter making the lights fail. This causes a safety issue by having the racetrack lights to fail. State inspections also fail this fault until the unit is replaced for $1120 in parts which will eventually fail again, we are not fixing this issue we are putting a band-aid on a situation needs to be looked at.

I HAVE 2015 DOSGE DURANGO RT AND IIT HAS RACETRACK STYLE TAIL LIGHT WHICH DIVIDED IN TO THREE SECTION RIGHT SIDE TAIL LIGHT, CENTER LIFT GATE TAIL LIGHT AND RIGHT SIDE TAIL LIGHT FROM THIS THREE SECTION THE CENTER SECTION WHICH IS MOUNTED ON TAIL GATE IS STARTED TO HAVE WATER BUILDING UP IN IT AND I COULDNT FIGURE OUT AT FIRST THAN AFTER DOING LITTLE SEARCH ON INTERNET I CAME ACROSS LOT OF PEIPLE'S COMPLAINT WITH SAME PROBLEM AND NO SOLUTION AND THAN SUDDENLY THE RIGHT LOWER CORNER OF CENTER TAIL GATE TAIL LIGHT JUST WENT OUT. FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM I AM DEFINITELY BLAMMING DODGE FOR INSTALLING BAD DEFECTIVE PARTS ON THEIR VEHICLES AND THEY SHOULD CHANGE THEM OUT UNDER RECALL FOR FREE BECAUSE THIS IS REALLY SHAME TO CHARGE 50,000$ FOR CAR THAT HAS FACTORY INSTALLED DEFECTIVE PARTS AND COMPANY IS NOT TAKING STEPS TO CHANGE THEM OUT.

THE REAR LIGHT CENTER LIGHT PANEL ON THE LIFT GATE (AKA RACETRACK LIGHTS) WERE NOT SEALED PROPERLY AND AS A RESULT WATER PENETRATED BOTH SIDES AND BURNED OUT ALL THE BULBS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH DODGE AND THE DEALER WILL NOT COVER. THIS IS A CLEAR DEFECT AND DEALER SHOULD BE MADE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIR SINCE, WITHOUT THESE LIGHTS, THE CAR IS NOT AS SAFE SINCE IT WOULD BE LESS LIKELY FOR A FOLLOWING DRIVER TO SEE ME BRAKING OR BACKING UP WITHOUT THESE LIGHTS FUNCTIONING.

DRAINED BY REMOVING LOWER OUTSIDE SCREW & SEVERAL OUNCES RAN OUT (THANKS YOU-TUBE). BOUGHT VEHICLE IN EARLY JANUARY 2016 AS A NEW 2015 SXT. HAS ABOUT 24,000 MILES. I DRIVE THE TRUCK EASY AND THERE WAS NO EXTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY. A QUICK YOU-TUBE SEARCH YIELDED THIS AS A COMMON ISSUE WITH MANY 2014, 2015 DURANGO MODELS. HEARD THIS IS ABOUT A $1000+ REPLACEMENT.

WATER IS COLLECTING IN THE BACK TAILLIGHTS. WHEN THE BACK MOUNTING BOLT IS REMOVED A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF WATER DRAINS OUT. THE CONDENSATION REMAINS AND WILL LEAD TO FAILURE OF THE LED LIGHTS. THIS IS A COSTLY PART TO REPLACE AND IS A SAFETY HAZARD. THE ISSUE IS WELL KNOWN AND THERE IS NO SOLUTION FROM DODGE.

WATER AND CONDENSATION ON THE TAIL LIGHTS

RACETRACK TAIL LIGHT LEAKS, TRAPPING WATER INSIDE AND BURNING OUT THE REAR LED LIGHT BULBS. VERY EXPENSIVE PART TO REPLACE (I'VE HEARD $1000.00) AND BASED ON SOME ONLINE SEARCHES, APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM.

Rear tail lamps are sealed LED units which are getting water / condensation inside. This causes the LED lamps to fail and affect rear visibility. Sealed lamps should not have any water entry.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING - BRAKE LIGHTS - REAR REAR CENTER LED LIGHT IS FILLED WITH WATER. LIGHT DOES NOT WORK. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. WIDESPREAD ISSUE. REPLACING THE LIGHT IS NOT THE PERMANENT FIX. THE PROBLEM WILL REOCCUR EVEN AFTER THE REPLACEMENT OVER THE TIME. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED.

REAR CENTER LED LIGHT SECTION FILLED WITH WATER. FROZEN WATER CAUSED THE LIGHT TO CRACK MAKING IT EVEN MORE LIKELY TO FILL WITH WATER. THE LIGHT ONLY WORKS INTERMITTENTLY AND WILL OFTEN GO OUT, ALONG WITH THE LIGHT THAT ILLUMINATES THE LICENSE PLATE. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM...CHECK DODGEDURANGO.NET FOR NUMEROUS DISCUSSIONS RELATING TO THIS PROBLEM IN DURANGOS FROM 2014 AND LATER.

HEADLIGHTS NOT WORKING, NOT DAYLIGHTS NOR MANUALLY. ONLY THE FOG LIGHT ARE WORKING AT THIS TIME.

I have suffered a known issue with the exterior lighting on these vehicles. Water has gotten into the tail light housing and caused the light to go out…a $1300 part. Water intrusion has been long documented in these model year Durangos, with no recall ever issued.

Rear racetrack tail lights keep filling up with water from rain, carwashes and melting snow and now has damaged lighting in one area and it's inevitable that other areas will soon be damaged.

Tail light collects water while in motion on any road or stationary. Lights short out which can be hazardous when driving in the rain or at night.

Noted reoccurring problem with liftgate tail light. Liftgate taillight will all eat water into the light itself and therefore burned out. Problem occurs on both sides as well.

Exterior tail light's interior gets flooded with water every time it rains. There is nothing abnormal about my vehicle, this is the second dodge durango I have owned (2015+) with the same exact issue.

My rear LED light bar is out. I looked and there is water inside of the light bar. There are gaps all around the light bar which is how the water is getting in.

Driving at night, car passes me and aggressively honked/pointed behind me. Pulled over and noticed my rear lights were completely out. Messed with the light switch to see if it made a difference, it did not.

My racetrack taillight in the back of my 2015 dodge durango has accumulated water build up on both sides of it and has caused the left part of the unit to short out. It is absolutely absurd that chrysler will not cover this because about half the durangos I see on the road have this as well.

27,300 miles and I have water pooling inside my LED tracks of my tail lights. This is potentially going to cause the lights to short out and possibly blow fuses. This needs to be remedied by manufacturer being this is a very common issue

Tailgate center race track lighting completely out. Water gets in both sides of the center light and now just yesterday the entire assembly went out and does not illuminate at all.

"takata recall" I purchased a 2015 dodge durango on december 3 2015 however I notice that its water condense in the racetrack light and its a couple of spots where its blowed out thats very dangerous and needs immediately attention..

The taillights have standing water in them and I have no clue how water would be able to get in there. The water will not drain and now it has caused a portion of my light to go out. After reading this online, I've seen a lot of durango owners with this issue and I feel this has to be turned into a recall.

I have noticed water inside the tail lights. It rained for a couple of days but not hard.

Moisture got inside rear 'racetrack' light and now that part does not light up. Many other durangos have reported this issue.

The rear passenger light stays on all the time the blinker will not work. We have changed the whole unit and it still does the same thing. I now have it and the shop and going to cost me a lot of money.

Seals around the rear liftgate racetrack lighting have allowed water to enter making the lights fail. This causes a safety issue by having the racetrack lights to fail.
