STEERING
ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE RIGHT FRONT STEERING KNUCKLE MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED. BECAUSE OF A BROKEN COOLING LINE, PARTS CAST IN TOOL CAVITY #63 ON JULY 18 AND JULY 19, 2006, MAY HAVE A COLD SHUT CONDITION AND COULD FRACTURE.
Fix: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE RECALLED VEHICLES TO IDENTIFY THE DEFECTIVE PARTS AND REPLACE IF THEY ARE WITHIN THAT LOT. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 8, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

While driving on the highway at 70 mph, your SUV started hesitating and eventually stopped completely. The ABS light, traction control light, and brake lights all came on. Since then, the hesitation happens almost every time you drive on the highway. You've also noticed that gas spurts out when refueling and your fuel consumption has increased. Your dealer's diagnostic only found that the gas cap needed replacement.

Your crankshaft position sensor keeps failing and needs to be replaced about once a year—you've replaced it 6 times in 5 years. When it fails, your engine randomly shuts off while you're driving or parked, and the dealership hasn't been able to identify the root cause, which may be a faulty wiring harness or another underlying issue. The repair involves replacing the crankshaft position sensor, though the underlying cause of repeated failures may need further diagnosis.

I WAS LEAVING THE GAS STATION & THE VEHICLE STARTED JUMPING UP & DOWN LIKE A BUCKING HORSE. THERE WAS TEMPORARY POWER LOSS AS WELL AS LOSS OF STEERING. THE VEHICLE DISPLAYED A BAS/ESP ERROR & AS WELL AS A TRACTION CONTROL ERROR.
OUR DURANGO RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING OR WHEN WE ARE IDLE. IT HAPPENS A LOT WHEN MAKING TURNS AND I LOOSE STEERING AS WELL. ABS INDICATOR ON AS WELL AS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT USUALLY SHOWS O2 SENSORS OR CRANK SHAFT SENSORS. HAD BOTH REPLACED MANY TIMES AND THE ISSUE STILL OCCURS. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, AS IT IS OUR FAMILY CAR.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR I TURNED TO PARK AND IT SHUT OFF. IT HAS DONE THIS MANY TIMES, WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY KIDS IN THE CAR FOR FEAR IT WILL SHUT OFF ON THE HIGHWAY.
I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2007. I HAVE ONLY HAD MINOR PROBLEMS UNTIL THIS BEGAN. THE VEHICLE IDLE BEGAN FLUCTUATING WHILE SITTING STILL. IT WOULD REV TO 2000 RPMS AND DROP AND NEARLY STALL. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN REGULARLY, SO I WASN'T CONCERNED. THEN IT STALLED ON MY WIFE IN THE DRIVE THRU. I CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY AND REPLACED ALL SPARK PLUGS AND COIL PACKS AT AROUND 60000. THIS HAD LITTLE OR NO EFFECT. WE CONTINUED TO DRIVE FOR A FEW MONTHS AND THEN THIS PROBLEM BEGAN. MY WIFE CALLED AND STATED IT LOST POWER STEERING AND THROTTLE, BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. SHE TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I THOUGHT SHE HAD MISTAKEN BECAUSE THE AC AND SOME GAUGES WILL OPERATE IF THE KEY IS ON BUT ENGINE IS OFF. THEN IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS RUNNING 60 MPH AND IT CUT OUT. I LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND COULD HEAR THE ENGINE RUNNING, BUT HAD NO POWER AT THE ACCELERATOR. I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND RESTARTED AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. IN THAT FEW SECONDS, I DROPPED TO 35 MPH. HAD THIS BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE, IT COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC. I CHECKED ONLINE BECAUSE I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT WOULD CAUSE THIS OTHER THAN A COMPUTER ISSUE AND FOUND OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. I WILL BE CALLING MY DEALER TO FIND A CAUSE. MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE NOW WITH OUR FOUR SONS IN THE CAR UNTIL THIS IS FIXED. I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND HER POINT. THERE IS NO WAY SHE WILL BE ABLE TO MUSCLE THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IF THIS HAPPENS TO HER. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL A FAMILY IS REAR ENDED ON THE INTERSTATE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE STALLS. IT'S VERY CONFUSING BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING, BUT NO POWER STEERING AND NO RESPONSE FROM THE ACCELERATOR. THIS VEHICLE WILL NOW BE SITTING IN MY GARAGE UNTIL A REMEDY IS FOUND. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND MY CAR BEGAN TO STOP AND SEVERAL INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON, ENGINE, ASB/BAS, AND TPS. THE CAR STOPPED AND I HAD TO MOVE IT INTO PARK AND RESTART. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST FW DAYS. USUALLY WHILE I AM DRIVING ON A NON HWY SURFACE. I CALLED AND ASKED ABOUT A RECALL TO THIS NUMBER 800-853-1403. BROUGHT TRUCK IN FOR ENGINE LIGHT ON & NO POWER ON MARCH 9, 2013...CLAIMED SPARK PLUGS PUT IN BY MANUFACTURER WERE 30,000 MILES PLUGS....WHO DOES THAT ANYMORE. WHILE DOING THE TUNE UP, MECHANIC NOTICED FLUID DRIPPING. POWER STEERING PUMP WAS LEAKING. PUT NEW PUMP IN (MARCH 12, 2013) WHICH SEEMED TO BE BAD. ORDERED ANOTHER PUMP (ARRIVED MARCH 15, 2013) WHICH WORKED BUT THE RACK IN PINION STEERING BLEW SEALS ON BOTH ENDS. ORDERED PART WHICH TOOK SEVERAL DAYS TO COME IN (HOPEFULLY MARCH 20, 2013). THE MECHANIC BELIEVES THE RACK IN PINION WAS NOT RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING. THIS WOULD ACCOUNT FOR THE FRONT TIRES WEARING QUICKLY & FUNNY. IT WOULD ALSO ACCOUNT FOR THE NOISE HEARD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT END WHEN HITTING BUMPS. BOTH THESE ISSUES WERE BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIPS ATTENTION PRIOR BUT NOTHING WAS DONE. CLAIMED THEY DIDN'T HEAR THE SOUND WHEN TEST DRIVING. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL BE RESOLVED TODAY MARCH 20, 2013. THIS IS ONE OF MANY MAJOR PROBLEMS WE HAVE HAD WITH THIS VEHICLE. AT LEAST WE WERE SMART & BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WHEN WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. WE NOW KNOW IF WE BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR A SIMPLE REPAIR, AN ENTIRE SYSTEM WILL BE REPLACED. *TR
THE CAR FLASHES 4LO CONSISTENTLY AND, YOU CAN HEAR UNDER THE CAR WHEN YOUR NOT EVEN DRIVING THE CAR SWITCHES INTO DIFFERENT 4X4'S. WHEN, YOU UNLOCK THE DOOR IT SWITCHES INTO DIFFERENT 4X4'S. WHEN, YOU GO INTO REVERSE AND, TURN YOUR WHEEL ALL THE WAY THE CAR LOCKS AND, YOU CAN'T MOVE UNLESS YOU TURN YOUR WHEEL A DIFFERENT WAY. IT ALSO DOES THIS IN FORWARD. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO OTHER PEOPLE AND, DODGE STILL HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING ABOUT THIS. IF, YOU GO ON THIS WEBSITE YOU WILL SEE OTHER PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT YEAR DODGES THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO AND, YET THERE STILL IS NO RECALLS. THIS HAS TO BE FIXED OR SOMEONE CAN, GET HURT WITH THE CAR LOCKING LIKE THIS AND, IT GOING INTO DIFFERENT 4X4'S. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE TIE ROD DETACHED FROM THE STEERING KNUCKLE. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS BEFORE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 42,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE DURANGO 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE CONTACT DROVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE WHEEL WAS POINTNG OUTWARD, AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A LOOSE TIE ROD. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THERE WAS A RECALL POSSIBLY RELATED TO THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V386000 (STEERING); AND THE CONTACT PLANNED TO NOTIFY THE DEALER TO VERIFY WHETHER THE VIN WAS INCLUDED. IN ADDITION, WHENEVER REFUELING, A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF FUEL WOULD SPRAY OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2007 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED, WE TOOK THE CAR TO GET AN ALIGNMENT DONE IN SEPT. 2010 AT DODGE OF BLAINE IN MN. THEY SAID THE LEFT TIE ROD WAS LOOSE DURING THE PRE INSPECTION. WE HAD IT FIXED. LESS THEN 2 MONTHS LATER THE LEFT TIE ROD COMPLETELY BROKE AND DETACHED FROM THE TIRE. I WAS DRIVING AT THE TIME WITH KIDS IN THE CAR. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY THE DODGE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT THEY SEE A LOT OF AND DODGE NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT BUT HAS NOT YET. IS DODGE WAITING FOR A DEATH LAWSUIT BEFORE THEY DO A RECALL ON THIS. THIS COULD BE A VERY DEADLY PROBLEM. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN THE RIGHT FRONT TIE ROD BROKE AT THE KNUCKLE. THERE WAS NO WARNING, ABNORMAL TIRE WEAR OR DAMAGE PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS ON A EIGHT LANE HIGHWAY AND WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD WITH OUT A CRASH. THE WHEEL SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE FROM THE LOOSE TIE ROD END. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A TURN AROUND A CURVE, THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. SHE HAD TO WAIT A MINUTE OR TWO FOR THE STEERING WHEEL TO UNLOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO INSTRUCTED HER TO LOOK IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND CALL THE NUMBERS LISTED REGARDING RECALL INFORMATION. I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2007 DODGE DURANGO ON 9/21/07 FROM HATCH MOTOR COMPANY IN SNOWFLAKE, AZ. I HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR 1 1/2 WEEKS WHEN IT STARTED GIVING ME PROBLEMS AND I REPORTED IT TO THE COMPANY AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN. THE GAS GAUGE, HAZARD LIGHTS, SIGNAL LIGHTS, HIGH AND LOW BEAM LIGHTS WENT OUT. WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN, THEY CHECKED IT AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE CLUSTER BOX AND THEY HAD TO ORDER A NEW ONE. I ASKED THEM IF THEY COULD PROVIDE ME WITH A RENTAL BECAUSE THE TRUCK WAS HAZARDOUS TO DRIVE HOME. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE ME ONE UNLESS I PURCHASED THE "CHRYSLER CONTRACT" OR UNLESS I PAID FOR ONE. I DID NOT HAVE ANY MONEY AT THE TIME BECAUSE I HAD TO MAKE A DOWN PAYMENT FOR THE VEHICLE. I EXPLAINED MY SITUATION TO THEM AND THEY STILL WOULD NOT PROVIDE ONE FOR ME. THIS WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A BRAND NEW VEHICLE. I HAD TO DRIVE MY TRUCK BACK HOME WHICH IS OVER 250 MILES IN THE DARK WITH MY THREE CHILDREN. THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME IN ANY WAY. I THOUGHT I WOULD REPORT THIS TO YOU DUE TO THE SERIOUS HAZARD AND THEY LET ME DRIVE IT HOME. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 DODGE DURANGO BOUGHT 3/7/07, AND ON DATE 4/4/07 BEEN IN SHOP TWICE FOR STEERING ISSUES AND THEY HAVE BOTH TIMES SAID NOTHING IS WRONG. THE DURANGO ALSO HAS IDLE ISSUE AND HARMONIC BALANCE ISSUE. WHEN DRIVING I HAVE TO KEEP STEERING TO THE LEFT IN ORDER TO STAY STRAIGHT, TURN TO RIGHT NOT EVEN HALF INCH AND YOU ARE IN THE OTHER LANE OF TRAFFIC. GO AROUND CURVE AT 35 TO 45 MPH AND YOU FEEL LIKE TIRES ARE GOING TO FALL OFF. DEALER SHIP HAS ON BOTH OCCASIONS IN SHOP SAID NOTHING WRONG. THERE IS A RECALL ON STEERING HOWEVER MINE WASN'T INCLUDED. VERY HARD TO MAINTAIN OWN LANE WHEN DRIVING. NOTHING HAS CORRECTED. A BACK TIRE WAS REPLACED ON 4-2-07 DEALER CHECKED DROVE AND DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING. *AK
