I JUST PURCHASED A 2007 DODGE DURANGO AND NOTICED THAT EVERY TIME I FILL UP THE TRUCK AT A GAS STATION, INSTEAD OF THE GAS PUMP AUTOMATICALLY SHUTTING OFF ONCE THE GAS TANK WAS FULL, GAS WOULD SPIT/BACK OUT OF THE NOZZLE AREA AND RUN DOWN THE SIDE OF THE TRUCK. I AT FIRST THOUGHT IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE GAS STATION, BUT IT HAS OCCURRED THREE MORE TIMES AT DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND APPARENTLY, THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH OTHER DODGE OWNERS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT BECAUSE I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEDUCTIBLE. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON DODGE BEHALF. I'M AFRAID THAT BECAUSE I HAVE TO WAIT TO COME UP WITH THE DEDUCTIBLE, A MORE SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD OCCUR IN THE MEANTIME. WHEN FILLING TANK THE FUEL FILLER HOSE SPRAYS FUEL BACK EVERYWHERE. I AM SCARED TO FILL MY TANK UP AS IT IS A RISK THAT GAS GETS SPRAYED ALL OVER YOU. MY VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AT THE PUMP TURNED OFF. IN GOOGLING IT SEEMS MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM.

LARGE AMOUNT OF FUEL SPILLS WHEN FILLING TANK, COMES OUT WHEN FUEL HOSE IS REMOVED FROM THE FILLER TUBE EVERY TIME WHEN FILLED.

LOOKED UP THIS PROBLEM AND THERE IS A NHTSA BULLITIN FOR THIS PROBLEM FOR OTHER VEHICLES, THERE IS A VALVE ON TOP OF THE TANK THAT FAILS AND ALLOWS FUEL INTO THE VAPOR CANISTER CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STOP RUNNING. IF I FILLED TANK WITH GAS COMPLETELY IT WOULD OVERFLOW, SO I WOULD NEVER FILL ALL THE WAY. NOW I CAN BARELY PUT ANY GAS IN IT WITHOUT IT OVERFLOWING, EVEN AT THE SLOWEST RATE.
WHEN FUELING YOU HAVE TO SHUT OFF GAS BEFORE FULL BECAUSE GAS WILL NOT SHUT OFF AND SPRAY OUT. THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY WHEN PUTTING IN FUEL. THIS HAPPENS AT EVERY FUELING I HAVE TO MAKE SURE AND SHUT OFF BEFORE THE TANK IS FULL.

FUEL TANK SPRAYS FUEL AND SPILLS UP TO A QUART OF GASOLINE WHEN FILLER NOZZLE SHUTS OFF. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2015 WITH APPROXIMATELY 91,000 MILES. IT IS A LIMITED 4X4 MODEL WITH A 5.7L HEMI MULTI DISPLACEMENT ENGINE. UPON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHEN REFUELING THE VEHICLE, SECONDS AFTER THE FUEL NOZZLE CLICKS OFF A GUSHING SHOULD IS HEARD AND IMMEDIATELY A SPRAY OF GASOLINE IS EJECTED FROM THE FILLER NECK. IT HAS BECOME TOO DANGEROUS TO FILL THE TANK AND I MUST RESORT TO PURCHASING A LESS THAN FULL TANK. NOT ONLY IS THIS ANNOYING BUT IT ALSO PRESENTS AN EXTREME FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD DUE TO THE QUANTITY OF GASOLINE EJECTED. BOTH MYSELF AND SEVERAL GAS STATION ATTENDANTS HAVE BEEN SOAKED IN GASOLINE BY THIS DEFECT OF NOT SHUTTING OFF THE FILLER CHECK VALVE WHEN FULL. I BELIEVE THE 2005-2006 MODELS OF THIS SAME VEHICLE WERE RECALLED FOR A SIMILAR PROBLEM WHICH REQUIRED REPLACING THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK AND FILLER PIPE AS AN ASSEMBLY. IF THIS PROBLEM IS ALLOWED TO GO UNCHECKED IT REPRESENTS A HAZARD TO THE SEVERAL THOUSANDS OF THIS GENERATION 2005 TO 2009 DURANGOS ON THE ROAD AND THEIR OCCUPANTS.

BEYOND INFURIATED! NO ONE WILL TAKE OWNERSHIP OF A MANUFACTURED DEFECTIVE FUEL SYSTEM AND ACTUALLY THEY EXPECT ME TO PAY FOR IT! PLEASE, PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL AND HOLD THESE PEOPLE ACCOUNTABLE! WE HAVE HAD GAS SPLASHED ALL OVER US AND AFTER THE SUPPOSED 'FIX' CAN'T PUT GAS IN IT WITHOUT IT TAKING 30 MINUTES. NOT ACCEPTABLE, NOR IS IT SAFE!

THERE IS A "TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN" DESCRIBING THIS PROBLEM ON MY VEHICLE, BUT WHEN I WENT TO THE LOCAL CHRYSLER DEALER FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL AND ASKED IF THEY WOULD FIX THE GAS PROBLEM, THEY SAID THAT THE "TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN" WAS JUST "COURTESY INFORMATION" AND IF I WANTED TO "FIX" IT, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. I'VE SEEN ONLINE THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THEIR VEHICLE FIXED AT THEIR DEALERSHIP FOR FREE. I DON'T KNOW IF I WAS LIED TO, OR IF THE DRIVERS I READ ABOUT ONLINE JUST HAVE BETTER DEALERSHIPS THAN I DO HERE. I LOVE THE DURANGO - IT'S A GREAT VEHICLE, BUT THE GAS FILL PROBLEM IS A MESS. I HAVE 2007 DODGE DURANGO WITH THE 5.7L HEMI. APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS AGO WE BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WHEN FUELING THE VEHICLE. WHEN FILLING THE TANK, THE FUEL NOZZLE WILL AUTOMATCIALLY SHUT OFF NORMALLY WHEN THE TANK IS FULL. HOWEVER, WHEN REMOVING THE PUMP NOZZLE GAS SPEWS BACK OUT OF THE FILLER NECK ALL OVER WHOMEVER IS FILLING THE VEHICLE OR ONTO THE GROUND. I THINK CHRYSLER SHOULD TAKE A SECOND LOOK AT THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS BURNED OR KILLED. THE AMOUNT OF FUEL IS PROBABLY AROUND 2 CUPS. AS WITH THE 2005 DURANGOS & THE MANY 2007 DURANGO COMPLAINTS, I TOO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE FUEL SPEWING OUT FROM THE FILLER NECK AFTER THE PUMP HAS SHUT OFF. THE AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF (FUEL INTAKE CHECK VALVE) IS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY & ALLOWS QUITE A BIT OF FUEL TO SHOOT OUT FROM THE VEHICLE. THIS IS NOT ONLY A SAFETY CONCERN, BUT IT HAS ALSO CAUSED THE PAINT ON MY VEHICLE TO BEGIN BUBBLING UP, WHICH WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE A RUSTING ISSUE. I HAVE TO USE THE WINDSHIELD CLEANER BRUSH AT THE PUMP STATION TO WIPE THE EXCESS FUEL OFF MY VEHICLE TO PREVENT ANY FURTHER BUBBLING. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS REPORTED & A RECALL ISSUED. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE PUMP ITSELF AND TRIED OTHERS. I WAS TOLD BY LOCAL DODGE DEALER THERE WASN'T A PROBLEM AND NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS WOULD EVER COME ON INDICATING AN ISSUE. THE FUEL SHUTOFF ALWAYS WORKS, BUT A SECOND OR SO LATER, A LARGE SPRAY OF PRESSURIZED FUEL SQUIRTS OUT OF THE FILLER NECK FROM AROUND THE FUEL NOZZLE. AGAIN, THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS FILLED, NO MATTER WHAT GAS STATION AND NO MATTER WHAT TEMPERATURE OR PRIOR FUEL LEVEL. IT HAS HAPPENED CONTINUALLY FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS. I CAN PREVENT THE OVERSPRAY BY SHUTTING OFF THE FUEL BEFORE THE TANK IS FULL AND ALLOWING THE NOZZLE TO STAND FOR 20 SECONDS BEFORE REMOVING IT. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING FROM DOING RESEARCH THAT THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE THAT HAVE THIS PROBLEM IN CHRYSLER VEHICLES. MANY YEARS 2005-2009 DURANGOS, JEEP WRANGLERS, AND JEEP CHEROKEES. IT IS CLEAR THAT CHRYSLER CONTINUES TO PUT FAULTY FILLER TUBES AND GAS TANKS ON THEIR VEHICLES EVEN AFTER THEY KNEW THEY HAD A PROBLEM. I HAVE SEEN OVER 200 COMPLAINTS OF THIS PROBLEM ON VARIOUS MODEL YEARS OF DURANGO'S JUST IN THIS PAST YEAR. CHRYSLER GIVES THE RUN AROUND EXPECTING PEOPLE TO PAY ANYWHERE FROM $200-$1500 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE FIXED BY THEM FOR FAULTY EQUIPMENT. I URGE YOU TO OPEN AN INVESTIGATION ON THE 2007 DURANGO AND OTHER MODELS AND INSTITUTE A RECALL TO FORCE CHRYSLER TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. MY 2007 DODGE DURANGO SLT STARTED OVERFLOWING DURING PUMPING GAS ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. ONCE THE TANK FILLS UP, IT SHOOTS ABOUT 500 ML OF GAS OUT OF THE TANK BEFORE THE PUMP SHUTS OFF. I FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS THE PUMP, SO I TRIED DIFFERENT STATION AND DIFFERENT PUMPS AND ALWAYS THE SAME RESULT. I ALSO TRIED TO FILL UP THE TANK ABOUT 90% OF THE WAY, PULL OUT THE PUMP TO LET IT VENT, AND THEN CONTINUE PUMPING AFTER THE TANK WAS VENTED. THIS DIDNT HELP. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. I SHOOTS A HALF LITER OF GAS ONTO THE GROUND THAT SOAKES INTO THE GROUND, POOLS ON THE GROUND, AND RUNS ALL OVER THE CAR. IF SOMEONE WAS SMOKING OR SOMETHING SPARKED, A LOT OF PEOPLE CAN BE KILLED. THE SPIT BACK IS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT, SPRAYING BACK OUT OF THE FILL NOZZLE AND RUNNING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE ONTO THE GROUND. A SHORT TIME PRIOR TO THE 1ST OCCURRENCE OF SPIT BACK THE LOOSE GAS CAP INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, ALTHOUGH THE CAP WAS VERIFIED AS CLOSED. *TR
WHEN FILLING THE FUEL TANK, AT THE COMPLETION OF FILLING THE PUMP AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS OFF AS NORMAL BUT ABOUT 1-2 SECONDS AFTER APPROXIMATELY 1-2 QUARTS OF FUEL COMES RUSHING OUT OF THE FILLER NECK. IF I AM LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE SELECTED A FUEL PUMP WITH A RUBBER "SHIELD", THE FUEL ONLY SPILLS ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE TRUCK AND THEN CREATES A SIZABLE PUDDLE ON THE GROUND. IF I USE A PUMP WITH NO "SHIELD", I USUALLY END UP WITH A SATURATED SLEEVE EVEN IF I TRY TO GENTLY FINISH FILLING THE TANK. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A FLUKE BUT IT HAS CONTINUED TO DO SO. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND ALL THEY TOLD ME WAS THAT THEY WOULD JUST HAVE TO LOOK AT IT TO DISCOVER WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I THEN TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS VERY THING AND ADVISED ME TO CALL THE NUMBER LISTED 1-800-853-1403. I WAS TOLD BY THE PERSON ON THE ON THE OTHER END THAT MY DURANGO WAS NOT ONE OF THEM. I PROCEEDED TO TELL HER EVEN THOUGH WHEN THIS VERY RECALL IS EXACTLY WHAT MY CAR IS DOING AND IT IS A 2005 MODEL. SHE SAID NO. WELL I AM NOW HAVING TO HAVE THIS SAME RECALL ISSUE FIXED AND PAID FOR OUT OF MY OWN POCKET BECAUSE YOU DON'T BELIEVE MY MECHANIC. HE WILL BE SUBMITTING THIS ON THE BILL AS TO WHAT HE HAD TO DO TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I TRIED DOING THIS THE NICE WAY BUT NO ONE ON THE OTHER END WOULD LISTEN. GO FIGURE.
