THIS VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A NON INJURY ACCIDENT WITH PROPERTY DAMAGE. THE INITIAL CAUSE OF THE CRASH WAS DETERMINED TO BE POOR ROAD CONDITIONS. THE DRIVER WAS DRIVING ON A GRAVEL ROAD AFTER A RAIN AND HEAVY TRAFFIC. DRIVER ENTERED A SOUPY SPOT IN THE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO TURN SIDEWAYS. DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN FROM THE INITIAL VEHICLE SPEED OF AROUND 25 MPH. VEHICLE THEN LEFT THE ROADWAY, DOWN A STEEP DITCH AND THROUGH A FENCE CAUSING SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE AND THE FENCE. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE UPRIGHT. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS REMOVED FROM THE AREA, IT WAS STILL DRIVEABLE, BUT THERE WAS VERY LITTLE VEHICLE BRAKING. UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE DAMAGE FOR THE ACCIDENT REPORT, INSPECTOR FOUND BRAKE FLUID LEAKING UNDER THE VEHICLE BELOW THE MASTER CYLINDER AREA OF THE VEHICLE. UPON OPENING THE HOOD, INSPECTOR NOTED BRAKE FLUID SPRAYED ALL OVER THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. FOUND THE REAR PRIMARY BRAKE LINE AND THE FRONT PRIMARY BRAKE LINE WERE ROUTED IN SUCH A MANNER THAT THE TWO STAINLESS STEEL JACKETED LINES WERE RUBBING ON EACH OTHER AND THE REAR LINE HAD RUPTURED, THUS LOSING BRAKING ABILITY. THIS IS THE LINE THAT GOES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT OF THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. OWNER OF THE VEHICLE HAS OWNED IT SINCE 2006 AND NO BRAKE WORK OR MODIFICATIONS TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM HAVE BEEN PERFORMED WHILE CURRENT OWNER HAS POSSESSED VEHICLE. THIS APPEARS TO BE AN INSTALLATION ERROR FROM INITIAL PRODUCTION OF THE VEHICLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE SERVICE BRAKES AND THE SERVICE ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 177,000.

FOUR LOW LIGHT BLINKS. SERVICE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE LIGHT COMES ON. WILL JUST XOMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. HAS ALSO SHUT OFF WHILE STOPPING TO TURN. HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL VEHICLE STOPS PUT IT BACK IN PARK AND ATTEMPT TO RESTART IT. HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE EVERY TIME I ATTEMPT TO DRIVE IT. HIGJLY UNSAFE. GOGGLED PROBLEM AND TONS OF PEOPLE WITH SAME PROBLEM. WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THIS. THIS IS INSANE AND SOMETHING NEEDS DONE!!!

BOUGHT CAR IN 2007 HAD TO REPLACE ONE KEY BECAUSE OF ELECTRONICS AT 180 DOLLARS EACH, 2009 CHANGED CAR BATTERY HAD TO RESET KEYS AT 80 DOLLARS, 2011 KEYS NEED REPLACED AGAIN AT 130 DOLLARS EACH. BAD DESIGN SO THEY CAN KEEP FLEASING YOU FOR MONEY. ALSO HAD FUEL TANK REPLACED, BRAKE LINES RUBBED TOGETHER CAUSING HOLE IN LINE AND LOSS OF BRAKES, DUST COVER ON DRIVERS SEAT BELT BROKE OFF, SCREWS IN BACK TAIL GATE KEEP LOOSENING AND FALLING OUT. *TR

FIRST, THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. THEN, THE SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER QUIT WORKING WHEN THE ABS, PARKING BRAKE, CHECK ENGINE, AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ALL CAME ON. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO REPAIR THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER RECALL, AND WAS TOLD THAT IT NEEDS A NEW ABS CONTROL MODULE AND WIRING HARNESS. THE WIRING HARNESS IS COMPLETELY MELTED, PROBABLY BECAUSE OF A SHORT IN THE CONTROL MODULE - AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE WIRING HARNESS IS ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER UNTIL LATE SEPTEMBER, SO I AM WITHOUT ABS BRAKES, TRACTION CONTROL, AND A SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER UNTIL THEN. *TR

I WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE WHEN I HEARD A CLUNK NOISE, THIS HAS BEEN PRECEDED BY 2-3 MONTHS OF A HIGH PITCHED SQUEAKING NOISE THAT THE MECHANICS COULD FIND NO CAUSE FOR. AFTER THE CLUNK THE VEHICLE MADE A WHOMPING RHYTHMIC NOISE WHILE I DROVE HOME. THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I STARTED IT TO DRIVE TO THE REPAIR SHOP IT SHIFTED IN GEAR BUT WOULD GO NOWHERE. IT APPEARED THE REAR BRAKES WERE LOCKED. IT WA STOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANICS REPORT THAT THE PARKING BRAKE ON THE LEFT SIDE HAS BROKEN AND RESULTED IN JAMMING AND BREAKING OTHER COMPONENTS. MECHANIC ALSO REPORTS THE RIGHT SIDE APPEARS TO BE BROKEN AS WELL BUT HAS NOT DONE THE SAME AMT OF DAMAGE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO EXIT A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF THE PARK GEAR. THE CONTACT EXITED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE CABLE FAILED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC AND THEY STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION VALVE FAILED. THE VIN AND NUMBER OF CYLINDERS WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 68,433.

THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPER MOUNT NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. AFTERWARDS, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED.

THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THIS WAS NORMAL WEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, AT 12,000 MILES, AND THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE BRAKES ARE 50 PERCENT WORN AND WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT 19,000 MILES.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT 40 MPH THE VEHICLE LOST BRAKE POWER. NO WARNING LIGHTS THAT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO GAIN MOMENTUM, IT WAS GOING UP A HILL AND THE ROADS WERE WET. THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES. TURNING THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF DID NOT AFFECT THE BRAKES. THE BRAKES CAME BACK BY THEMSELVES. THE SECOND TIME THIS OCCURRED THE VEHICLE WAS GOING 20 MPH, AND THE CONTACT PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MULTIPLE TIMES, NOTHING HAPPENED WHEN THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE TIRES BEGAN TO SPIN SUDDENLY ,AND THE SPEEDOMETER READ 60 MPH, ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS NOT MOVING. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, AND THE COMPUTER DID NOT DISPLAY ANY CODES.*AK

DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. WHEN SHE PUT THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE IT REVVED, BUT DID NOT GO ANYWHERE. THE VEHICLE THEN STALLED WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS. THIS HAPPENED EIGHT TO NINE TIMES. THE BRAKES HAVE FAILED THREE TIMES, ALMOST REAR ENDING A TRUCK. THE BRAKES WILL NOT RESPOND WHEN PRESSED. SHE HAS TO TAKE FOOT AND SLAM IT TO THE FLOOR FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR BOTH PROBLEMS MULTIPLE TIMES, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE EITHER PROBLEM. THEY THOUGHT IT MAY BE A COMPUTER GLITCH. THESE PROBLEMS HAPPENED SEPARATELY. *AK UPDATED 1/4/2006 - *NM
