Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 302)
Service Brakes →10 issues
Your ABS and traction control wheel speed sensors have corroded, causing the ABS to engage unexpectedly at low speeds and making it difficult to stop your vehicle. This is the same problem that prompted a recall for other Tahoes, though that recall only covered vehicles in rust-prone states. As your vehicle has aged, corrosion is now appearing in other regions, suggesting this issue may be more widespread than the original recall addressed.

Your brake system failed to stop the vehicle when your daughter pressed the brake pedal while driving downhill, resulting in a collision with a cyclist who was hospitalized with fractures. After the crash, you noticed the brake lines were corroded and brake fluid was leaking onto the ground. The brakes need immediate inspection and likely replacement of the corroded brake lines and a complete brake fluid system flush.

When you pressed the brake pedal at a traffic light, it sank all the way to the floor and your Tahoe took much longer than normal to stop. You discovered the brake fluid reservoir was nearly empty, and found that the brake lines were severely rusted—with the rear brake line actually rusted through, allowing fluid to leak out. A mechanic will need to replace the rusted brake lines and refill the brake fluid system.

Your brake pedal lost all resistance and went to the floor without stopping power, even at low speed (4 mph). This brake failure caused you to rear-end another vehicle. The incident resulted in damage to both vehicles.

Your brakes failed while you were trying to stop at a stop sign, requiring you to press the brake pedal with excessive force to bring the vehicle to a stop. The brakes failed several more times after the initial incident, and you eventually crashed into a pole. The vehicle has not been diagnosed or repaired to address the brake failure.

Your brake pedal failed when you tried to stop because the rear left steel brake line rusted completely through. Your mechanic found two additional brake lines with rust damage and is replacing all of your brake lines to ensure safety, which will cost at least $1,200. The repair involves removing and replacing all the steel brake lines in your vehicle's braking system.

Your ABS and brake warning lights came on in 2011, and the dealership quoted you a high repair cost. You discovered that a 2005 recall was issued for vehicles in salt-belt states, but GMC says the recall only applied to certain VIN numbers even though your truck was manufactured in a salt-belt state and the original owner lived there. You're concerned about why this wasn't covered under the recall and why similar issues in other GMC vehicles haven't been addressed.

Your ABS (anti-lock brake) warning light turns on when you're parking or turning. This happened at around 150,000 miles. The vehicle wasn't part of any recall campaigns for brake issues, and the problem hasn't been diagnosed or repaired yet.

Your ABS system is activating unexpectedly when you brake at low speeds (between 3.7 and 10 mph), which could extend your stopping distance and increase crash risk in emergency situations. This matches a known GM recall condition caused by corrosion between the front wheel hub/bearing assembly and the wheel speed sensor, though your VIN isn't listed in the recall. You've confirmed the problem by using a scan tool to detect the unwanted ABS activation and verified it stops when you remove the ABS fuse. Fixing this likely involves replacing the wheel speed sensors and addressing any corrosion on the hub/bearing assembly.

Your ABS (anti-lock braking system) is activating on its own when you're driving at low speeds, even though you're not in an emergency braking situation. The dealer found the problem was likely caused by dirty or corroded brake components and wheel speed sensors, and cleaned the brake calipers, rotors, hubs, and sensor mounts to fix it. If the problem returns, the wheel speed sensors or ABS module may need to be replaced or reprogrammed.

Structure →2 issues
Your Tahoe's tailgate glass hinges are attached with plastic or glue that deteriorates over time. When you opened the tailgate while parked, the glass shifted and the top came loose—a serious safety concern since this could happen while driving and cause the glass to detach. The hinges may need to be replaced or reinforced, as GM didn't redesign this component with bolted attachments until 2005.

When you open your tailgate glass, it shifted to the left and the top came loose from the vehicle. The metal hinges holding the glass are attached with plastic or adhesive that breaks down over time, which could cause the glass to detach while driving and create a safety hazard. GM switched to bolt attachments in 2005 models, and many owners report this same problem that's difficult to repair.

Electrical System,service Brakes →1 issue
Your ABS system caught fire, causing you to lose all brake fluid and braking ability. The ABS and brake warning lights came on simultaneously with no prior warning, and the fire occurred immediately after you started driving. This issue will likely require complete replacement of the ABS module and brake system inspection, along with investigation into what caused the electrical fire.

Air Bags →1 issue
Your airbags failed to deploy during a crash at 40 mph when another vehicle ran a red light. Your son was injured with chest, lower back, and neck pain serious enough to require emergency room visits. The cause of the airbag failure wasn't determined. Getting your airbag system diagnosed by a qualified technician or dealer is critical to understand why the safety system didn't work.

Vehicle Speed Control,engine →1 issue
Your gas pedal has become stuck twice in the past week while accelerating, causing your vehicle to speed up uncontrollably. When you shift into neutral, the engine continues revving, and the pedal remains pressed all the way to the floor until you stomp on it repeatedly for about 20 seconds to unstick it. This is a serious safety issue that could happen while driving on busy streets or highways. The fix will likely involve inspecting and cleaning or replacing the gas pedal mechanism and its linkage to the engine.

Service Brakes, Hydraulic →1 issue
Your ABS (anti-lock braking system) is activating on its own when you're driving slowly, which is causing your vehicle to take longer to stop. You'll notice the ABS warning light turning on when this happens. The exact cause hasn't been identified yet. This issue will likely require diagnostic testing at a dealership to pinpoint the problem in your ABS system and may involve replacing a faulty ABS sensor or control module.

Unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your dashboard is cracking and breaking apart into sharp pieces, affecting the instrument panel, air conditioning, heater, and radio controls. The area above the steering wheel is in the worst condition, and the passenger side is also cracked. You're concerned that in an accident, these sharp pieces could injure passengers. Fixing this will likely require replacing the entire dashboard assembly.

Power Train,service Brakes,engine →1 issue
Your Tahoe's ABS braking system unexpectedly disengages during braking, causing the vehicle to lunge forward until you release and re-press the brake pedal—the dealer couldn't reproduce the issue. You're also experiencing abnormal noise while driving, the vehicle pulls to the left (the driver's side hub bearing assembly was replaced three times but the problem keeps returning), and a burning oil smell after driving, which was traced to an engine oil leak at the main seal that persists even after repair. Fixing these issues will likely require diagnosing the recurring ABS malfunction, replacing the hub bearing assembly again if needed, and repairing or re-sealing the engine's main seal to stop the oil leak.

Engine →1 issue
Your Tahoe is consuming an abnormal amount of engine oil without any warning signs. At 80,000 miles, you may notice your oil level dropping significantly between regular checks. The vehicle hasn't been diagnosed or repaired yet. Fixing this typically involves identifying the source of the leak or oil consumption, which could require engine inspection or seal replacement.
