Your Malibu won't shut off when you put it in Park, and it has trouble starting when you turn the ignition. You're also experiencing shifting problems that make the car unsafe to drive. GM has identified the issue as a defective shifter park switch and wiring harness in technical bulletins, but the problem hasn't been resolved.

Your car displays a "Shift to Park" warning message when you try to turn off the engine, even though you've already moved the shifter to Park. This prevents the engine from shutting off and has happened multiple times. The dealer reports this is a known issue on your vehicle model. The fix involves replacing the shifter assembly and its wiring harness.

When you put your car in park and try to turn it off, a message tells you to shift into park even though you're already in park. This prevents you from shutting off the engine normally. The issue likely involves the transmission position sensor or the shift interlock system that needs to be diagnosed and repaired.

Your car hesitates and loses power while driving, sometimes severely jerking and shuddering. Your engine also stalls when stopped at traffic lights and requires a restart. On the highway, your car has suddenly lost all power or reduced power significantly, forcing you to pull over safely.

Your car has been shutting off while driving, losing power, and idling roughly. You've noticed delayed engagement when shifting into Drive, requiring you to shift back and forth to get the car moving. Most concerning, while driving uphill, your car stopped moving forward and started reversing on its own. Multiple diagnostic codes have appeared (P0325, P0505, P0507, P0700, P1101, P2714), suggesting issues with the engine knock sensor, idle control, and transmission. A repair will likely require diagnostic testing to identify which of these systems is malfunctioning and may involve replacing sensors, transmission fluid, or engine control components.

While driving in traffic, your car suddenly lost power and came to a complete stop even though it was in Drive. Your dashboard displayed "Shift to Park" and ABS warning lights. After putting the car in Park, you were able to restart it. The dealership diagnosed a faulty solenoid assembly in the transmission that needs to be replaced to restore normal power and prevent this from happening again.

Your car displays a "Shift to Park" message even though you've already shifted into Park, preventing you from turning off the engine. This appears to be a widespread issue affecting multiple 2019 Malibus, with an ongoing class action lawsuit related to it. Your dealer confirmed your vehicle isn't covered under the current recall for this problem. The issue likely involves the transmission shift interlock or park position sensor and may require diagnostic testing and potential replacement of the affected component.

Your check engine light turns on when you shift into Park and won't turn off, which drains your battery and prevents you from locking or moving the vehicle. This has happened twice and required expensive repairs. You believe this is a known issue that should be recalled nationwide.

When you park your car and turn off the engine, you see a "Shift to Park" message even though it's already in park. Your check engine light comes on and off sporadically, and when it's on, your Chevy app shows an error related to the engine and transmission air induction system. The issue is intermittent, making it hard to diagnose at a dealership.

Your 2019 Malibu was involved in a severe front-end collision on the driver's side that caused significant structural damage and frame denting. Despite the severity of the impact, the airbags did not deploy when they should have. You're concerned the airbag system may have been defective or improperly repaired before the accident, especially since the vehicle had known mechanical issues and repairs from non-certified facilities before you purchased it. The airbag system may need diagnostic testing and potential replacement of airbag control modules or sensors.

Filed: Nov 2025

Your 2019 Chevrolet Malibu may experience dangerous engine problems, including sudden unintended acceleration when your foot isn't on the gas pedal and complete loss of power while driving—both creating crash risks. Your vehicle is also showing repeated diagnostic trouble codes related to turbo boost, airflow, and idle control, and the charge-air hose (a turbo-related component) repeatedly disconnects from the throttle body while driving. These issues appeared shortly after you purchased the car from a dealer. The problem likely requires a mechanic to diagnose and replace the faulty charge-air hose and potentially the turbo system or fuel injection components.

While driving 75 mph on I-25 near Castle Rock, Colorado, your 2019 Chevy Malibu suddenly lost all acceleration power, forcing you to coast to a stop across multiple lanes in heavy traffic. You believe this may be related to known transmission issues affecting your vehicle model, specifically a start-stop accumulator endcap with missing bolts that can cause propulsion loss. The repair will likely require transmission inspection and replacement of the faulty accumulator endcap and bolts.

Your engine completely shut off twice while driving—once on the freeway when you changed lanes to exit, and once on a surface street as you approached a traffic light. Both times the car lost all power while moving. The issue appears to be related to the electrical system or engine, and a mechanic should diagnose why the engine is stalling unexpectedly while in drive.

Your gear shifter's internal sensor isn't properly detecting when the transmission is in Park, which means your car won't shut off completely and may stay in accessory mode. This can drain your battery and leave you stranded, and more seriously, your car might roll away if parked on a hill since it's not fully locked in place. The fix involves replacing the faulty microswitch sensor inside the gear shifter assembly, which your Chevrolet dealer can do by removing and inspecting the old part.

Your car displays a "Shift to Park" warning and won't turn off even after you've moved the gear shift to Park. Additionally, your car's automatic start/stop system causes the engine to stall unexpectedly at red lights and in traffic, which is dangerous—especially on hills where the car may roll backward without warning. You have to manually shift into Park and restart the engine to regain control.

Your 2019 Malibu lost all power at a stoplight and restarted on its own. The next day it wouldn't start and showed a low battery warning, followed by a check engine light. A few hours later it started, but all interior lights stayed on and wouldn't turn off. A diagnostic scan revealed a recall-related code that needs dealer service.

Your car suddenly lost all power and stopped while you were driving in December 2024, then started again after waiting. When you took it to the dealer for diagnosis, they found a transmission problem with an initial repair estimate of $1,800. When you had it checked again in September 2025, the estimate had jumped to $8,400. The underlying transmission issue appears to be worsening and will likely require professional transmission repair or replacement.

Your throttle body hose keeps popping off the throttle body because it's missing a gasket ring and retention clip. The plastic pieces on the spring clip have also broken off. You can't accelerate past 3,500 RPM without the hose disconnecting due to pressure from the turbocharger. The fix will likely involve replacing the throttle body hose, gasket ring, and spring clip assembly.

Your car started fine one day but wouldn't start the next day. A diagnostic scan showed that the fuel injectors weren't delivering fuel to the engine, and the engine control module (ECM) had failed. The ECM is the computer that controls fuel injection and other engine functions, so it will likely need to be replaced or reprogrammed.
