General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Chevrolet Equinox, Impala, Cruze, Volt and Bolt EV vehicles, GMC Terrain vehicles, Buick Lacrosse and Regal vehicles, Cadillac XTS and XTS Professional vehicles and 2018 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles. The rear brake caliper pistons may have an insufficient coating causing gas pockets to form, potentially reducing rear brake performance.

Risk: A reduction of braking performance can increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will bleed the vehicle's brake system, free of charge. The recall began October 11, 2018. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 18279.

Your car displays a 'Shift to Park' message even though the transmission is already in Park, and the vehicle won't turn off. You've had to disconnect and reconnect the battery multiple times to shut down and restart the car. The dealer couldn't diagnose or fix the issue, and the manufacturer has been notified but hasn't provided a solution yet.

When it started raining, your check engine light and reduced engine power warning came on, and you couldn't accelerate past 35 mph. This suggests moisture may have affected your engine's sensors or ignition system during wet conditions. A mechanic will need to scan your engine computer for fault codes and inspect moisture-sensitive components.

Your heated steering wheel stopped working and you discovered a blown fuse. After replacing it, the fuse blew again, so you took it to the dealer who replaced the steering wheel heater module and fuse. The feature worked initially, but the fuse blew again the next day. The underlying electrical problem causing the repeated fuse failures needs to be diagnosed and repaired, likely involving a short circuit in the heating system or a defective heater element.

Filed: Dec 2020

Your heated steering wheel stopped working on a cold morning. You found the fuse was blown and replaced it, but when you started the car, the feature still didn't work and the new fuse blew again. This suggests an electrical problem beyond just a bad fuse that needs professional diagnosis.

Your AC compressor isn't receiving electrical power, causing the system to blow hot air instead of cold. The dealership has checked the refrigerant pressure and recharged it, but the problem persists. The issue likely involves a faulty electrical connection, wiring, or component that powers the compressor. A technician will need to diagnose the electrical circuit supplying the AC compressor and repair or replace the failed component.

Your power steering system intermittently locked up, forcing your steering wheel straight even on curves, and eventually failed completely, leaving you unable to steer the vehicle safely. A "Service Power Steering" warning appeared before the system went out entirely. You were charged $5,000 to replace the power steering rack after two dealerships diagnosed a short circuit in the unit. The fix involves replacing the faulty power steering rack and potentially the associated electrical components.

Your car's coolant warning system isn't working — you don't get an alert when coolant is low or empty, and the warning light doesn't appear on your dashboard. This means you won't know if your engine is running hot until serious damage occurs. The fix likely involves replacing the coolant level sensor or repairing the dashboard warning light circuit.

Your air conditioning compressor has failed and needs to be replaced, which is unusual for a 2019 vehicle that should have many more years of normal life remaining. The owner is concerned this premature failure could indicate a safety issue that warrants investigation for a potential recall.

Air Bags,seats1 issue
criticalAIR BAGS,SEATS
Filed: Feb 2026

Your passenger-side airbags are turning off when someone sits in the seat because the weight sensor in the seat is rubbing against the seat frame and not working properly. This means the airbags won't deploy in a crash if a passenger is seated. The fix will likely involve replacing or repositioning the seat weight sensor and possibly the seat frame components it's rubbing against.

criticalELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
CrashFiled: Jan 2021

Your check engine light came on, and your car lost all power and shut off while turning at a traffic light. Later, while driving at 60 mph on a highway with cruise control, your brakes failed to respond properly when you tapped them to avoid deer crossing the road, causing multiple warning lights to illuminate (check engine, antilock brakes, power steering, stability control, and battery saver). This brake failure resulted in an accident that you believe could have been prevented if the brakes had worked normally. The fix will likely involve diagnosing the electrical and brake system faults that caused the loss of power and brake response, possibly including recall repairs.

Your car jerks when accelerating, and your key fob isn't being detected properly. Your radio works but seems stuck on a basic display screen. Your brakes feel rough when you apply them. Filed: Oct 2024

Your car's parking brake release warning appears unexpectedly after sitting parked for extended periods, accompanied by a rough jolt before you can drive away. You've experienced a persistent shake throughout the car since purchase—the dealer replaced front strut assemblies under warranty, but the vibration has gotten worse despite new tires and chassis inspections. The decorative metal ring around your cupholders has cracked and broken, creating sharp edges that have caused cuts. Additionally, your car sometimes lacks power during acceleration, and you suspect an exhaust leak even though there are no visible signs underneath. Addressing these issues will likely require suspension component replacement, cupholder trim replacement, and exhaust system inspection or repair.

While turning left, your car skidded and didn't complete the turn smoothly. You also noticed a hole in the muffler, a fractured sway bar on the driver's side, and problems with the brake actuator, bushings, and rotors that aren't working properly. No warning lights appeared on the dashboard. An independent mechanic was unable to repair the vehicle, and Chevrolet said it's no longer under warranty at 129,000 miles. These issues will likely require replacement or repair of the suspension components, brake system parts, and exhaust system.

Filed: Jun 2023

Your passenger side blind spot monitoring light stays on continuously, even when there are no vehicles nearby. This can be confusing and potentially dangerous on the freeway since you may not trust the system when an actual vehicle is present. The dealership indicated this issue isn't covered under warranty. Fixing this will likely involve diagnosing the blind spot sensor on the passenger side and either cleaning, realigning, or replacing the faulty sensor.

Your blind spot detector is triggering false warnings on your dashboard when there's nothing actually in your blind spot. Your passenger-side headlight has moisture buildup inside it that won't go away, even after sun exposure or driving with the lights on. This condensation is making that headlight dimmer than the driver's side. The repair will likely require replacing the entire headlight housing.
