NHTSA Campaign: 18V755000
Component: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE)
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2013-2018 BMW 328d and 328d xDrive, 2014-2018 328d Sports Wagon and 328d xDrive Sports Wagon, 2014-2016 535d and 535d xDrive, 2015 740Ld xDrive, 2015-2017 X3 xDrive28d SAV and 2014-2017 X5 xDrive35d SAV vehicles equipped with an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) module with an integrated cooler. If the EGR cooler leaks internally, the coolant can mix with diesel engine soot. The high EGR temperatures may result in these particles possibly smoldering and melting the intake manifold.
Risk: The melting intake manifold can increase the risk of a fire.
Fix: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the EGR cooler as necessary. If a leak has already occurred, the engine intake manifold will also be replaced. These repairs will be made free of charge. The recall began May 13, 2019. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Your engine suddenly lost power and wouldn't go faster than 35 mph while driving, and your dashboard showed an overheating warning. The dealer found that your water pump had failed and replaced it to fix the problem. You believe your car experienced the same issue covered by a BMW recall, but your vehicle's identification number wasn't included in that recall campaign. The water pump will need to be replaced by a mechanic.

Your 2017 BMW X5 is producing an abnormal smoke odor from the engine, both while driving and when parked with people inside. An independent mechanic inspected the vehicle but was unable to determine the cause. The issue started at 60,000 miles and hasn't been repaired yet. A proper diagnostic will be needed to identify what's causing the smell — it could range from a minor fluid leak to engine component wear.

Child Seat →1 issue
The left side harness on your Nuna Rava car seat (Model CS05103CVR) has come loose, which means your child cannot be securely restrained in the seat. This is a safety concern because the harness is designed to keep your child in place during driving and in case of sudden stops or accidents. You'll need to contact Nuna to have the harness tightened, adjusted, or replaced to ensure proper restraint.

Fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your BMW's high-pressure fuel system has completely failed twice — once at 39,066 miles and again at 57,376 miles — causing the engine to lose power and stall while driving in traffic. Both times the entire fuel system had to be replaced under warranty. BMW issued a safety recall acknowledging potential failures in the high-pressure fuel pump, though no fix was available when the recall was issued. The repair will require replacement of the high-pressure fuel pump and related fuel system components.

Steering,seat Belts,fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your car's fuel system shut down while driving at 30 mph, forcing you to have it towed. The service center found burnt wires in the fuel pump control module (EKPS) and indicated that both the EKPS and fuel pump are failing intermittently, causing the vehicle to lose fuel pressure randomly and emit gas fumes. Additionally, your middle back seatbelt is non-functional, and your car pulls strongly to the right even after multiple alignments, creating a steering control issue.

Power Train,engine,fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your car has stalled three times on the highway due to fuel injection problems. You've had this issue repaired or replaced every year, but the problem keeps returning. This repeated stalling creates a safety hazard since you nearly missed a rear collision. The repair will likely involve diagnosing and replacing fuel injection components or the fuel injection control module.

Electrical System,service Brakes →1 issue
Your electronic parking brake (EPB) system malfunctioned when you opened the driver's door while stopped with Auto Hold active. The system displayed a warning and failed to engage properly, which could cause the brake to apply unexpectedly or fail to engage when needed—creating a potential safety hazard. The problem appears to be a faulty EPB actuator or control unit rather than worn brake components. The repair will likely involve replacing the EPB actuator assembly and recalibrating the system.

Air Bags →1 issue
Water may be leaking into your car through the moonroof, and you're seeing warning messages about passenger airbags. You suspect the dealer reset your vehicle's computer during a recent service without fully addressing the leak. The issue likely requires finding and sealing the moonroof leak, and then having the airbag system properly diagnosed to ensure the warnings clear.
