2022 Volkswagen Taos Brakes Problems

My car is only 14,200 miles and the rear brakes are gone, I need to find help because is a safety concern and VW doesn’t want it to replace because the extended warranty is already expired, but nobody, either the VW or the dealership where I bought my car informed me regarding this issue and the extended warranty.

I took the vehicle in for its 80,000 service, which included a multiple point inspection on Oct. 24th, 2025. The dealer that serviced my vehicle for that specific service was the north park volkswagen in San Antonio.

When pressing on gas peddle, vehicle aggressively jolts forward. This caused me to almost rear end the vehicle in front of me while on the highway as well as be rear ended. While on and in drive Taos appears to have died.

I own a 2022 Volkswagen Taos with about 45,000 miles. I have had to replace the rear brake pads and rotors THREE TIMES already within this mileage, which is extremely unusual. During the third replacement, a local independent shop discovered that the rear brake caliper was leaking brake fluid, so the caliper also had to be replaced along with the pads and rotors once again.

Rear brake pads and rotors failed prematurely at 17,000 miles and again at 34,981 miles. Both times the brakes wore down to metal-on-metal with no dashboard warning light. The front brakes remain nearly new, suggesting an issue with brake balance or failure of the front braking system.

Rear brake pads worn out at 30,000 miles. Never had a car ever need rear brake pads replaced before even after 150,000 miles. I understand some owners have had the rear brakes pad on this vehicle totally worn out at 10,000 miles.

Our Taos is Bartley 18 months old and has less than 20k miles. Our coolant level was super low. We got the car towed (because we were on a road trip) and the dealership said it was low but that is normal and they refilled the coolant.

Since we bought the vehicle new in 2022, it has had an ongoing brake noise at low speeds. It sounds like a screeching or grinding, and I only hear it when I press the brake pedal. It is most noticeable right after startup when driving slowly.

My 2022 Volkswagen Taos is less than 4 years old, has 23,500 miles and I have had to replace the rear brake pads twice. After 14 months in service, the rear brake pads were prematurely worn and replaced under warranty extension at 8,900 miles. This is a known issue--see this bulletin from VW: [XXX] .

Purchased the vehicle on 8/1/2022. Brought the Taos in for routine oil change and at that point the rear brakes were noted to be under 4mm. At that point, there were 7,223 miles on the vehicle.

Excessive break pad wear. Vehicle is 3 years old with only 18847 miles. Rear break pads have now been replaced twice (@11000 and @18847 miles).

This is my second report as I have 2 VW Taos 2022 model vehicles. This vehicle also needed rear brake pads replaced after only 11233 miles. This is a low mileage vehicle and was outside of the extended warranty VW had offered and hence did not cover the repair.

- The head gasket failed twice in less than one year on my 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The vehicle also experienced a fuel pump failure, rear brake pad wear down to metal-on-metal, and the underbody panel detached while driving due to being improperly secured after a dealership repair. Yes, the components may be available for inspection upon request through the dealership.

I have just replaced the rear brakes on my 60k mile Taos for the second time. I am far from the only person I have seen multiple online reports of brakes being worn down by the 20k mile mark. Not only is this issue unsafe, it is expensive for the car owner.

Rear brakes had premature brake pad wear and needed to be replaced at 11k miles and 14 months of vehicle ownership (Dec 2023) - warranty extension was granted due to low miles and length of owners. Once again rear brakes have premature pad wear and need to be replaced at 19k miles and 2 years of ownership. This has cost has been denied by both the dealership and VW.

I went for my 30K mile warranty check. As I was as driving to the appointment the red engine light came on. It was the engine coolant.

Good afternoon, I own a 2022 VW Taos since April of 2022, I took my car for service to the dealership for 10k and 20k. When my vehicle had approximately 14,000 miles I do not know if the technicians actually checked my rear breaks.

First, I purchased my 2022 VW Taos (VIN [XXX] ) brand new from Rudolph VW in El Paso, Texas on [XXX]. For the most part, the vehicle has maintained its integrity until it was brought to my attention that the rear brakes needed replacement at 7, 230 miles. The brake replacement occurred April of 2023 and replaced by a warranty extension that was offered by VW and at no cost to me.

It is my understanding there have been reports of issues with the rear brakes on the 2022 Volkswagen Taos. Some owners have complained about excessive brake noise, premature wear, and in some cases, problems with the electronic parking brake. These issues have LED to concerns about the reliability and safety of the braking system in the Taos.

The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal squeaking sound coming from the brake pads. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the brake pads were replaced.

There is a break issue where they are using cheap quality parts. My car has 26,000 miles in 3 years and the breaks and rotors are all gone. When we try to break the whole car starts shaking.

Car has 11,144. Took it in for coolant issues had NY State Inspection done. Was told rear brakes and rotors needed to be replaced at the cost of1000.00 dollars.

Múltiple issues and ranging from brakes multiple times to check engine lights. Do not feel safe in this vehicle.

I took our 2022 VW Taos in for 15,000 mile service. The service advisor said the rear brakes were at 3mm and need to be replaced along with rotors. The brakes shouldn't be this low for the mileage on the car.

I built this car brand new at the end of 2021, received in February 2022. At 20,000 miles, my car was already noted to have rear brakes that were substandard and significantly more worn than is normal for wear and tear on a brand new vehicle. At this time, I was not informed of the problem, and it was LED to continue until I went in for standard 30k maintenance.

Vehicle not stopping properly. Vehicle is rolling further due to Rear Brake Pads deteriorating prematurely. Rear Brake Pads deteriorating under 20,000 miles after replacement of the original brakes that deteriorated under 20,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2022 Volkswagen Taos. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH, there was an abnormal grinding sound coming from the vehicle. The contact assumed that the sound was coming from the driver's side front wheel.

At 6578 miles, the Taos was confirmed to have a warped right rear caliper requiring replacement of the part. Confirmed failure of mfg part. Vehicle was at the dealership for over two weeks for repair.

Rear rotors and brake pads (measured at 2mm) need replaced at 28,500 miles. Front brakes show little to no signs of wear (measured at 10mm). Rear brakes compromised due to premature wearing that do not seem to affect the front axle.

Vehicle when new was grinding brakes and smell like they were burning. brought to dealer no issue found. Vehicle did this numerous times like calipers were sticking and not releasing.

I am writing to address the problem with the rear break pads on this car. 9/29/22 my rear breaks were at 6+mm mileage recorded 21,926. 2/13/23 my rear breaks were at 1mm mileage recorded 27,451.

The rear brakes on my 2022 VW Taos are making grinding noises and now I have to get my brakes replaced. They should not need replacing this soon. This is a known issue.

After 11,000 miles the rear brake pads were completely worn, 4mm of brake pad material left, and replaced by the dealership under warranty.

The vehicles brakes are engaging when driving. Can hear calipers rubbing on brake disks. Backing up the calipers are still rubbing on disks, making loud creaking noise.

Rear brakes wore so rapidly they were deemed unsafe for driving by state inspection, down to under 2mm in a year. Volkswagen knew it was an issue and extended the warranty, but put such limitations on when they would cover the warranty they caused customers to drive on unsafe rear brakes before they would consider coverage.

Uneven wearing on the rear brake pads from rear passenger to rear driver side brake pads ending up with a faulty caliper. Still in possession of faulty caliper.

The vehicle's brake pad has become worn out and is malfunctioning, despite being leased two years ago.

Rear brakes wear out prematurely, car has only 12500 miles

Brakes are on this care are failing well in advance of typical cars. My car's rear brakes are messing at a 3 with less than 20,000 miles on the vehicle. I'm aware of a safety campaign, but VW says my car wasn't made in that window.

Rear brake pads and rotors wearing out prematurely. Front pads and rotors no wear indicating vehicle is not using or using the front brakes at almost zero. This is a safety concern and is widely known amongst TAOS owners.

Rear brake pads were worn to the metal at 20,000 miles. Front brakes were perfect. Had NTB look at them after VW told me my brakes were squeaky because of the weather.

2022 Taos SE FWD safety concerns. Automatically turns off, engine light turns on. My vehicle and the loaner (2022 Taos) had the same issues.
