Your parked Tacoma caught fire under the hood while you were away, with flames visible when you returned. The fire department extinguished the fire, and your vehicle was inspected by both your insurance company and Toyota's manufacturer to determine the cause. At 123,000 miles, this represents a serious engine fire that requires investigation into potential fuel system, electrical, or engine component failures.

Your engine is stalling, rattling, and running rough with occasional misfires, and it's entering limp mode (reduced power mode). You've had repairs done, but these problems keep coming back and your engine isn't functioning properly.

Your engine has a coolant leak coming from the crossover pipe located at the rear of the engine. You may notice a coolant smell, but there won't be any warning lights to alert you beforehand. This repair took 14 hours at a local shop, so it's a significant job that requires removing components around the rear of the engine.

Your check engine light came on while driving, and diagnosis revealed misfires in multiple cylinders. When you inspected the engine, you discovered that the air intake flap (which regulates air to the engine) had detached, along with an unknown plastic piece. The dealer was notified but did not provide a clear resolution. The repair will likely involve reattaching or replacing the detached intake manifold flap and identifying the unknown component that came loose.

2017 Toyota Tacoma double cab-V6 with 62K approx miles. On or around April 29th 2024, I was traveling in this truck when there was a sudden and complete loss of power, two check engine lights came on-The "trac off" light and the check engine light came on. I needed to pull over immediately for safety. I ended up driving the vehicle to the Toyota dealership in limp mode. The vehicle has sat at Tustin Toyota now for weeks with the Toyota dealership initially suggesting that a ACIS Flap broke off inside the intake manifold of the car. This was replaced and the vehicle is still providing the same alarms and still in limp mode. The initial fix(whihc did not fix the problem was a full replacement of the intake manifold). Now the dealer is suggesting that a piece(s) broke off the intake manifold and ended up inside the engine so now dealer is recommending and entire engine break down to attempt to further diagnose the situation. Again it looks to be a complete failuure of the ACIS system and the intake manifold. This problem has presented a EXTREME safety issue due to comp[lete loss for power initially then truck sits in LIMP Mode. Very dangerous!

It has been well established among 2016 and up Toyota Tacoma owners and clubs that the Rear Coolant Bypass Joint leaks at different mileages, If the loss of coolant happens rapidly enough the engine could overheat and siez up and cause the pistions to weld to the cylinders along with causing extensive engine damage not to mention how the driver would handel the truck, Toyota dealerships and Manufacture also know of This Coolant Bypass joint leak and how common it is. Also the corrosive build up from the antifreeze will cause other parts and wires to not work, Attached is my part and the build up of antifreez before the leak,

ENGINE STALLS WHEN ATTEMPTING RAPID ACCELERATION WHEN ENGINE RPM IS LESS THAN 3000. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I RECENTLY ATTEMPTED RAPID ACCELERATION WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN TO AVOID A COLLISION WHERE AN ONCOMING DRIVER RAN A RED LIGHT. THE ENGINE STALLED. I HAVE EXPERIENCED OTHER SIMILAR INCIDENTS. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO MY TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER TWICE. THE FIRST TIME I WAS TOLD TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE CONDITION, WHICH WOULD BE ADDRESSED IN A SOFTWARE UPDATE. THE SECOND TIME I WAS TOLD MY ENGINE WAS OPERATING WITHIN NORMAL SPECIFICATION PARAMETERS, AND NO SUCH SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS FORTHCOMING. IT WAS RAINING THE DAY I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE, SO IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE TO TEST LOW END ACCELERATION. I WOULD NEVER HAVE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE HAD I KNOWN LOW END ACCELERATION WAS SO LETHARGIC. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS IT HAS NEARLY GOTTEN ME KILLED.

I BOUGHT A TOYOTA TACOMA THINKING I WAS PURCHASING A ROUGH TUFF TRUCK. IT IS BY FAR THE WEAKEST TRUCK/CAR I HAVE EVER DRIVEN. IT HAS NO POWER, CANNOT PULL MORE THAN AN INFLATABLE RAFT, DOWN SHIFTS IF A BUTTERFLY FLIES IN FRONT OF THE TRUCK. GAS MILEAGE IS PATHETIC, MY KIDS 2004 FORD RANGER HAS TWICE THE POWER AND CAN CARRY AND TOW THREE TIMES AS MUCH AS THE TOYOTA. THE TRUCK IS PATHETIC! SHAME ON YOU FOR SELLING ME SUCH A WEAK SHAMEFUL TRUCK.
