STRUCTURE:BODY:HOOD:HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS

Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain 2011-2016 Toyota Tacoma and 4Runner vehicles equipped with accessory hood scoops installed by SET or SET dealers. The adhesive attaching the hood scoop may weaken, allowing the hood scoop to detach from the vehicle.

Fix: SET will notify owners, and dealers will mechanically fasten the scoop to the hood, free of charge. The recall began on September 1, 2017. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-954-429-2000. SET's number for this recall is SET17B.

Your truck's frame was repaired using spray foam rather than being properly replaced, and this foam has been deteriorating and falling off since you bought it. You've noticed significant rust on the frame underneath, and while Toyota inspected it and deemed the foam repair adequate by their standards, you're concerned about the safety of this approach on a 12-year-old vehicle. The repair will likely require either complete frame replacement or professional rust treatment and repainting to properly address the underlying corrosion.

The rear frame of your truck, where the bumper and trailer hitch attach, rusted through and separated from the vehicle while you were backing up a camper. Your Toyota dealer mentioned there was a recall for frame rust that wasn't completed on your vehicle, but it's no longer covered under warranty. While this happened at low speed in your driveway, you're concerned that if it had occurred on the highway while towing, the camper could have detached completely. The fix would likely involve frame repair or replacement, possibly as part of a rust-related recall service.

Your 2013 Toyota Tacoma's paint is peeling on the rear door, engine compartment, and other areas due to a primer adhesion problem caused by sun exposure, not accident damage. This matches a known defect that Toyota addressed in Customer Support Program ZKG for 2009–2015 Tacoma models. Despite contacting Toyota multiple times since April 2024, you haven't received help, inspection, or acknowledgment of the issue. Addressing this will likely require the dealer to sand, reprime, and repaint the affected panels under warranty or a service program.

Your fuel door hinge broke, and you've found this is a common issue reported by other owners of 2005-2015 Tacomas. Before the hinge completely broke, you noticed the fuel door wasn't closing properly. While this isn't a safety risk, Toyota hasn't officially acknowledged it as a widespread problem. The fix will likely involve replacing the fuel door hinge assembly.
