ON 29 NOV. 2017, WHILE DRIVING BACK FROM AN ERRAND, THE AB BRAKE WARNING SYSTEM TURNED ON. AT THAT INSTANCE, I LOST THE BRAKING CAPABILITY OF MY TRUCK. FORTUNATELY, I WAS NEAR MY HOME AND MANAGED TO PARK THE VEHICLE IN MY DRIVEWAY, USING THE PARKING BRAKE AND PUMPING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES FAILED TO PROPERLY FUNCTION. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
MY BRAKES ARE SPONGY AND GO TO THE FLOOR AND TOOK TO A TOYOTA CERTIFIED SHOP AND CANNOT LOCATE THE PROBLEM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS UNRESPONSIVE AND EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL CONSTANTLY HAD TO BE PUMPED TO ENSURE THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A REMEDY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
PARKING BRAKE CABLES FRACTURE OF THE HOUSING AT THE POINT WHERE CABLE ENTERS REAR BRAKE BACKING PLATE. RUST AND CORROSION PREVENT THE REAR BRAKES FROM RELEASING OR APPLYING. HAVE SEEN ON NUMEROUS OTHER TOYOTA VEHICLES WITH THIS DESIGN CABLE SYSTEM FROM 2004 TO 2012 MODEL YEARS. REAR BRAKES CAN OVERHEAT AND CAUSE FIRE OR UNEVEN BRAKE OPERATION AND LOW PEDAL FEEL. *TR
WAS APPROACHING A RED TRAFFIC SIGNAL, COASTING IN CASE THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN BEFORE THE NEED TO STOP. LIGHT WAS STILL RED, SO I STEPPED LIGHTLY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE WAS NO SIGN OF BRAKING. I THEN INCREASED PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL, WITH NO BRAKING ACTION. SURPRISED AND CONCERNED, I THEN SET MY LEFT FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PUSHED WITH ALL I HAD WITH BOTH FEET, BUT THERE WAS NO BRAKING ACTION THAT I COULD FEEL. THE TRUCK STOPPED AS IT BUMPED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. ENGINE SPEED WAS NORMAL WHEN THE EVENT BEGAN, AND WHEN THE EVENT ENDED. I DID HEAR A RELATIVELY MINOR INCREASE IN ENGINE SPEED DURING THE EVENT. THE BRAKES WORKED PROPERLY BEFORE AND AFTER THE EVENT. ONE ADDITIONAL NOTE. FOR YEARS I HAVE NOTICED A FEW TIMES PER YEAR A MOMENTARY INCREASE IN ENGINE SPEED IMMEDIATELY AFTER STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. THE SPEED INCREASE IS GREATER THAT AN A/C SPEED PICKUP, BUT LASTS ONLY BRIEFLY, THEN RETURNS TO IDLE. I KEEP MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH ENOUGH PRESSURE THAT THE TRUCK DOES NOT MOVE FORWARD. HAD TRUCK TOWED TO DEALER FOLLOWING THE INCIDENT. DEALER FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THEY SPOKE WITH TOYOTA REPS AND WERE TOLD TOYOTA WAS UNAWARE OF ANY PROBLEM. UNABLE TO TRUST THE TRUCK AND HAVING BEEN ADVISED THAT FORD HAD SIMILAR BRAKE FAILURES IN THE PAST CAUSED BY ABS BRAKE ACTUATOR, I PAID THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE ACTUATOR. AFTER SPENDING MORE THAN $1200 FOR REPAIR, I STILL DO NOT KNOW IF THE BRAKES WILL FAIL AGAIN. A BRIEF INTERNET SEARCH INDICATES TO ME THAT THIS WAS NOT A LOAN, RANDOM EVENT AS INDICATED BY TOYOTA REPS. THE CONSEQUENCES OF BRAKE FAILURE ARE SERIOUS. THE DEALER DID PROVIDE ME WITH THE ORIGINAL ACTUATOR THAT WAS REMOVED FROM THE TRUCK DURING THE REPAIR WORK. I WILL PROVIDE THE ORIGINAL ACTUATOR FOR ANY LEGITIMATE AGENCY TO CHECK IT OUT IF THAT COULD BE HELPFUL. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, SHE SUDDENLY DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED A FEW YEARS LATER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200. UPDATED 3/31/14*CN THE CONSUMER STATED SHE PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE EXITING BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AND CRASHED INTO A POLE. THE BRAKES ON MY TRUCK SQUEAK TERRIBLY SINCE WE BOUGHT IT. IT SEEMS TO SLIP AND GRAB WITH EVERY TURN.
I WAS ON MY WAY TO GET GAS I CAME TO A STOP LIGHT THERE WERE ABOUT 4-5 CARS WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO CHANGE, MY TRUCK STARTED TO ACCELERATE AS SOON AS I APPLIED MY BRAKES,UNABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK I PULLED INTO A GAS STATION THAT WAS ON MY RIGHT I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE TRUCK ON PARK AND IT BEGAN TO ACCELERATE EVEN FASTER.I TURN THE CAR OFF AND THE ACCELERATION STOPPED I MISSED THE GAS PUMP BY 2 FEET.I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO MCGEORGE TOYOTA 9314 WEST BROAD STREET RICHMOND VA AND THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC TEST,THEY CAME BACK TO ME AND SAID THAT I HAD LOOSE MATS,AND WRONG PEDALS ON MY TRUCK,WHICH HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT I EXPERENCE(,I REPORT THIS ALSO TO TOYOTA ),I FEEL THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO BRUSH THIS UNDER THE CARPET BY SAYING IT WAS MY MAT,AND GAS PEDALS THAT WERE INSTALLED IN MY TRUCK,I KNOW WHAT I WENT THROUGH AND ALMOST HAD A REAL TRAGIC ACCIDENT IT WAS NOT THE MATS,OR MY PEDALS..THIS TRUCK TOOK ON A LIFE OF ITS OWN AND I COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE OR MYSELF, AND WOULD LIKE TO GO ON RECORD IN CASE ANYTHING HAPPENS TO ME OR SOMEONE ELSE..THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS TOYOTA TACOMA BY THE WAY I ONLY HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK LESS THAN A MONTH AND HAVE NOT EVEN MADE MY FIRST PAYMENT ! *JS
VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000 MILES, 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA. I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 3 MPH WHEN FOUR INDICATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND A WARNING ALARM CONSTANT TONE. AT THAT POINT I LOST ALL POWER TO THE BRAKING SYSTEM. I DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY ISSUES LEADING UP TO THIS INCIDENT AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER TO THE BRAKES. THE DEALERSHIP STATED I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ABS ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY, WITH ENGINE CONTROL MODULE, WITH BOOSTER PUMP). TOYOTA CURRENTLY EXPERIENCES A NATIONAL BACK ORDER ON THE REQUIRED PARTS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE (PART NUMBERS 47050-04041 AND 47070-04020). I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE IS A LARGER PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM THAT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA. I WAS FURTHER TOLD THAT THIS ISSUE IS EXTREMELY RARE BUT WITH A BACK ORDER ON THE PARTS AND NO ANTICIPATED DELIVERY DATE, I AM VERY SKEPTICAL. IT SEEMS THERE HAVE BEEN SOME BRAKING ISSUES WITH OTHER TOYOTA MODELS AROUND THE SAME TIME FRAME. *TR

AFTER INSPECTING THE BRAKES, HE NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING ON THE CARPET OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING DIAGNOSIS OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA PRERUNNER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY LAUNCHED FORWARD. HE ALSO STATED THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE AS IF THE VEHICLE WAS STRUCK FROM THE REAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WAS 81,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED WITH THE SAFETY OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM IN HIS VEHICLE. HE STATED THAT THE BRAKES WOULD ENGAGE BUT EXHIBITED GREATER STOPPING DISTANCE THAN A NORMAL WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. THE CONTACT REQUESTED THE DEALER BLEED THE BRAKES BUT THE DEALER REFUSED. THE DEALER AND THE SERVICE MANAGER CONFIRMED THAT WHAT HE WAS EXPERIENCING WAS THE NATURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM IN HIS MODEL VEHICLE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SUGGESTED THAT THE BRAKE SOFTWARE COULD POTENTIALLY HAVE BEEN OVERRIDING THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,000. 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA ACCELERATED AGGRESSIVELY WHEN APPROACHING A LEFT TURN AFTER SLIGHTLY PRESSING THE GAS. IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AFTER TAKING FOOT OFF THE GAS AND APPLYING BRAKES. WAS UNABLE TO SLOW TRUCK SUFFICIENTLY TO MAKE IT AROUND THE CORNER AND STRUCK A LIGHT POLE. TRUCK WAS TOTALED. INJURIES WERE FAIRLY MINOR - SHOULDER/NECK STIFFNESS, SCRATCHES, BRUISES, ETC. INCIDENT OCCURRED IN TORRANCE, CALIFORNIA (TORRANCE COLLISION REPORT). REPORTED TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE - CASE #1001122516. I DID NOT FOLLOW UP ON A COMPLAINT AT THE TIME BECAUSE THE TOYOTA ACCELERATOR PROBLEMS WERE NOT PUBLISHED AND I WAS UNAWARE OF HOW TO ESCALATE THE ISSUE. *TR
ON NOVEMBER 16, 2009, I PULLED MY 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA PICKUP INTO A PARKING SPACE AT A LOCAL WALMART STORE PARKING LOT AND AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP, THE ENGINE ACCELERATED CAUSING A "FORWARD BUCKING" MOTION FORCING ME INTO THE CAR PARKED IN THE SPACE IN FRONT OF ME. DUE TO THE DAMAGE TO THE CAR, I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO MY INSURANCE AND ALSO REPORTED THE MATTER TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE BECAUSE SIMILAR INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED ON PRIOR OCCASIONS (AND SINCE) BUT NO DAMAGE WAS DONE. I AM AWARE OF THE FLOOR MAT RECALL BY TOYOTA FOR THE PICKUP, BUT IN MY STRONG OPINION, THIS "ACCELERATION" ISSUE IS NOT CAUSED BY THE FLOOR MAT. RATHER, I BELIEVE THE ISSUE IS DUE TO A FAULTY DESIGN OF THE BRAKE PEDAL/SYSTEM AND/OR THE ACCELERATOR. THE CURRENT DESIGN ALLOWS MY FOOT TO CATCH THE ACCELERATOR WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE ACCELERATOR AND THE BRAKE PEDAL ARE LESS THAN 3 INCHES APART AND THE BRAKE PEDAL IS ONLY ABOUT 1INCH HIGHER THAN THE ACCELERATOR WHEN NEITHER PART IS BEING DEPRESSED. HOWEVER, WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT BECOMES LEVEL WITH THE ACCELERATOR AND IF MY FOOT IS NEAR THE SIDE OF THE PEDAL, MY FOOT CAN ALSO CONTACT THE ACCELERATOR, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO ACCELERATE WHILE THE BRAKE IS BEING APPLIED. THIS SITUATION HAS OCCURRED ON AT LEAST FOUR OCCASIONS, BUT ONLY THE ONE INVOLVED ANOTHER VEHICLE. WHEN I REPORTED THIS MATTER TO TOYOTA, I WAS ASKED NOT TO HAVE THE PICKUP REPAIRED/CHECKED UNTIL IT COULD BE INSPECTED BY A TOYOTA TECHNICIAN. AFTER EIGHT WEEKS AND SEVERAL PHONE CALLS, NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. WHILE I NOW KNOW HOW TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM WHEN IT OCCURS, ANOTHER DRIVER MIGHT NOT AND A SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD RESULT. MOREOVER, MY FOOT SIZE IS LESS THAN AN 8 SO A DRIVER WITH A LARGER FOOT SIZE COULD EASILY HAVE SIMILAR OR GREATER PROBLEMS. I HAVE DRIVEN NUMEROUS VEHICLES DURING MY 50 PLUS YEARS OF DRIVING EXPERIENCE AND NEVER ENCOUNTERED A SIMILAR SITUATION!
I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB 4X4, ALL OEM, NO AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT. I AM HAVING A PROBLEM VERY SIMILAR TO THE TOYOTA PRIUS BRAKING ISSUE. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. WHEN IN THE SITUATION I HAVE TO DRIVE ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND ONTO LESS STABLE SURFACE, GRAVEL, I CAN'T STOP!!!!!! YES, I REALIZE THE ROAD SURFACE IS NOT STABLE USUALLY GRAVEL. BUT THE TRUCK DOESN'T SLOW DOWN WHILE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE BOOSTER IS HUMMING. I LIVE ON A SINGLE LANE ROAD AND WHEN AN ONCOMING CAR IS APPROACHING I HAVE TO DRIVE OFF OF THE PAVEMENT AND ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. IN THIS SITUATION IT IS USUALLY A SURPRISE AND YES I AM APPLYING THE BRAKES BUT THE TRUCK WILL NOT STOP. I TRIED MY WIFE'S HONDA CRV IN THE SAME LOCATION ON THE SHOULDER OF THE SAME SPOT ON THE ROAD. THE HONDA CRV STOPS LIKE IT SHOULD. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER THIS PAST WEEK AND EXPLAINED THE ISSUE I AM EXPERIENCING. THEY TRIED TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND CHARGED ME LABOR TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE TOYOTA DEALER FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCKS BRAKING SYSTEM. THE TIRES ARE IN VERY GOOD SHAPE JUST REPLACED 6 MONTHS AGO, ABOUT 6K MILES, ON OEM STYLE TIRES. THIS MORNING I JOINED A TOYOTA TACOMA FORUM TO SEE IF OTHER TACOMA OWNERS EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. YES, THERE IS OTHER TACOMA OWNERS THAT HAVE THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR TOYOTA TACOMA'S. HOW DO WE GET THIS MESSAGE TO TOYOTA THAT THEIR TACOMA'S ARE DANGEROUS? SOMEBODY IS GOING TO GET INJURED OR KILLED THE WAY THE TRUCK IS. I WILL NOT LET MY FAMILY MEMBERS DRIVE MY TRUCK UNTIL I HAVE RESOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. TOYOTA NEEDS TO KNOW THAT THERE IS A BRAKING SYSTEM ISSUE WITH THE TOYOTA TACOMA AND THAT THE FLOOR MAT REPLACEMENT WILL NOT FIX IT... ON TWO OR THREE OCCASIONS THE BRAKES WERE SOFT ON SLOW SPEED STOPS AT INTERSECTIONS. THE EXPERIENCE CAN BE DESCRIBED AS A ROLLING STOP. I HAD TO REALLY STOMP ON THE BRAKES TO GET THEM TO GRAB AND/OR COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. DEALER EXAMINED THE BRAKES AN FOUND NOTHING WRONG. BRAKES STILL DON'T FEEL NORMAL LIKE OTHER CARS; THEY SEEM OK, BUT BELOW AVERAGE. I'M STILL VERY CONCERNED OVER THE BRAKING ABILITY ON MY 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA AND WISH A INVESTIGATION TO SEE IF THERE IS A LINK TO ACCELERATOR/ELECTRONIC PROBLEM. FLOOR MAT WAS NOT AN ISSUE AT THE TIME. *TR
MOVING VERY SLOWLY DOWNHILL ON A SNOW-COVERED DRIVEWAY. DEPRESSED BRAKE PEDAL, BUT ABS FAILED TO ENGAGE. BRAKES LOCKED-UP INSTANTLY, CAUSING AN APPROXIMATELY 200FT SLIDE, HITTING UTILITY POLE AND GUARD RAIL. ABOUT ONE WEEK LATER, BRAKES LOCKED AGAIN (ABS FAILED TO ENGAGE), BUT I WAS READY FOR IT AND IMMEDIATELY LET OFF AND REAPPLIED PRESSURE. THIS TIME ABS DID ENGAGE. I HAVE SINCE TESTED THE BRAKES ON SLICK SURFACES IN SAFE ZONES. ONLY THREE TIMES DID ABS FAIL, AND THE TWO TIMES THAT I LET OFF AND RE-APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE ABS ENGAGED AT THAT POINT IN TIME. EACH TIME THE ABS FAILED, IT WAS WHILE MOVING DOWNHILL. THE ISSUE FOR ME IS THAT I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO REACT WHEN BRAKING IN CRITICAL SITUATIONS: DO I PUMP THE BRAKES AS FOR W/O ABS, OR STEADILY HOLD BRAKES AS ONE WOULD WITH FUNCTIONING ABS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE (2007 TOYOTA TACOMA) TO DEALER, BUT THEY SAID BRAKES LOOKED OK. *TR
SUNDAY AFTER 2009 CHRISTMAS, WE WENT TO CHURCH. AS WE PULL INTO THE CHURCH PARKING LOT AND GETTING READY TO BACK IN ONE OF THE PARKING LOT AND OUR CAR TOYOTA TACOMA ACCELERATE ALL OF SUDDEN WITH RAPID SPEED AND SLAM INTO THE REAR BUMPER OF ANOTHER PARKED VEHICLE (HONDA ACCORD). NO ONE WAS HURT BUT OUR TACOMA FRONT BUMPER AND HONDA'S REAR BUMPER WAS DAMAGED. AFTER THAT OUR TRUCK BRAKE LIGHT REMAIN BLINKING AND WE CAN HEAR SOME CLICKING NOISE. WE CALLED POLICE AND REPORTED THE INCIDENT. WE ALSO LEFT A NOTE FOR HONDA'S OWNER TO CALL POLICE FOR FURTHER CLAIM TO FIX THEY BUMPER. THE FOLLOWING MONDAY, WE TOOK OUR TRUCK TO NEAREST TOYOTA DEALER (LAKENORMAN TOYOTA DEALER OVER HUNTERSVILLE, NC) TO HAVE THEM CHECK ON OUR TRUCK. THE TECHNICIAN HAD TO ADJUST SOMETHING WITH BRAKE AND HE TOLD US THAT, THE ACCIDENT WAS LIKELY CAUSED BY BRAKE OR GAS PEDAL BEING STUCK. I REQUESTED HIM TO PUT THAT IN WRITING AND HE WAS NOT WILLING TO DO SO. WE REQUESTED STATEFARM CLAIM ADJUSTER TO FILE THE CLAIM TO TOYOTA'S CLAIM DEPARTMENT AND THEY SENT LETTER. *TR
I WAS AT A 4 WAY STOP, MY 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA WOULD NOT STOP. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES SO HARD, BUT THE TRUCK JUST KEPT GOING, GOOD THING ANOTHER CAR WAS ALSO STOPPED. *TR
MY 2 1/2 YEAR OLD TOYOTA TACOMA WITH 22188 MILES NEEDED THE REAR BRAKES ADJUSTED TODAY. I ASKED THAT WHY THEY NEEDED TO BE ADJUSTED BECAUSE I KNOW DRUM BRAKES HAVE AN AUTOMATIC ADJUSTER WHENEVER THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IS USED THAT I USE QUITE OFTEN. I WAS TOLD BY THE TECHNICIAN THAT "ALTHOUGH MY TACOMA IS EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC REAR BRAKE ADJUSTER, ALL TACOMA'S DO NOT SELF ADJUST. THE FAILURE OF THIS TO NOT ADJUST CAUSED ME TO HAVE TO PUMP THE BRAKES BEFORE GETTING FULL BRAKING POWER. WHEN ASKED WHY THEY WOULD NOT FIX THEM I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THEN THEY WOULD NEED TO ISSUE RECALLS FOR ALL TOYOTA TACOMA'S BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AT A RED LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THE BRAKES FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE FRONT END AND THE DOORS WERE DESTROYED. THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER HAS NOT MADE A DETERMINATION AT THIS TIME. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 25,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DRIVER OF THE SUV HE HIT WAS INJURED. THE CONSUMER VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. UPDATED 09/18/08. *JB
2007 TACOMA 4X4 4 DOOR TRD. DRIVER APPROACHED RED LIGHT ATTEMPTED TO STEP ON BRAKES TO STOP AND THEY DID NOT WORK. DRIVER RAN THROUGH RED LIGHT AND NOTICED BLACK SMOKE FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT, THEN FLAMES. TOOK ABOUT A MILE, WHILE THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE, TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY DOWNSHIFTING AND E-BRAKE. HAD NO PRIOR BRAKE PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE. INSURANCE IS DOING INVESTIGATION AT THIS TIME. FIRE DEPARTMENT ADVISED THE HEAVIEST FIRE DAMAGE WAS LOCATED NEAR THE BRAKE LINE AND MASTER CYLINDER AREA. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING 15-20 MPH DOWNHILL, THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE SLID OUT OF CONTROL THEN FLIPPED OVER ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THERE WAS BOUT 10-12 INCHES OF SNOW ON THE ROAD. AS OF APRIL 29, 2008, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A SPRAINED NECK, INJURED STERNUM AND A CONTUSION ON HER LEFT INNER THIGH. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 26,000.

SOFT BRAKES ON MY 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA. IT SEEMS THAT THE TRUCK NOT RESPONDING TO BRAKING AS YOU TRY TO STOP. I HAD A COUPLE OF CLOSE CALLS BUT LUCKILY NO ACCIDENTS. I SEARCHED ON THE INTERNET TO SEE IF OTHERS ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE BRAKES ON THESE TRUCKS AND IT TURNS OUT TO BE A MAJOR ISSUE. CAR AND DRIVER MAGAZINE REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM IN THERE FEBRUARY 2007 ISSUE. I BELIEVE THAT THESE BRAKES COULD CAUSE INJURY AND IT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 TACOMA PICK-UP TRUCK. THE BRAKES HAVE FADED OR MALFUNCTIONED 4 TIMES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS LOOKED AT IT AND THE FACTORY REPS HAVE LOOKED AT IT AND CANT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I WENT THROUGH ONE INTERSECTION AND CROSSED TWO MERIDIANS INTO TRAFFIC WITH NO BRAKES OR VERY LITTLE. IT ALSO DID IT ONE TIME BEHIND A SEMI WHRE I COULD NOT STOP AS HE WAS BRAKING. IT SEEMS TO ACT UP WHEN THE AIR-CONDITIONING IS ON ALONG WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL OR JUST THE AIR-CONDITIONING. I CANT REALLY TELL WHEN IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. THIS IS NOT A FAILURE, BUT SOMETHING I SEE AS A SAFETY ISSUE.. WHEN I AM STOPPING AT A STOP LIGHT/ STOP SIGN AND AM IN DRIV WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER (A/C) ON THE TRUCK WILL SURGE FORWARD AND I HAVE TO PUSH THE BRAKES DOWN HARDER. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE A/C IS ON, AND SEEMS TO COME FROM THE INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS WHEN THE COMPRESSOR KICKS ON. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND COULD CAUSE ME TO REAR END SOMEONE. *AK
