The frame caved in to the motor mounts. The motor mounts on the drive side are intact however the frame has broken and the motor mount has fallen into the frame.

THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER SHIELD ON MY 2005 TACOMA FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. AFTER PICKING UP THE LARGE METAL PARTS AND INSPECTING UNDER THE VEHICLE, I NOTICED THAT NEAR TO WHERE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER SITS, THAT THERE WAS EXTENSIVE CORROSION ON THE TRUCK'S FRAME AND EVEN A LARGE HOLE. I AM EXTREMELY WORRIED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AND AM AFRAID THAT THE FRAME MAY CRUMPLE WHILE DRIVING CAUSING AN ACCIDENT OR DEATH. TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE. I CONTACTED THE CORPORATE OFFICES, BUT WAS TOLD THAT TOYOTA IS ONLY REPLACING THE FRAME ON VEHICLES REGISTERED IN WHAT THEY HAVE DESIGNATED AS A "SNOW STATE". I PURCHASED MY TOYOTA AT A DEALERSHIP IN ILLINOIS (A "SNOW STATE") AND HAVE DONE A LOT OF TRAVELING WITHIN THE "SNOW STATES", YET BECAUSE I LIVE 25 MILES AWAY ON THE MISSOURI SIDE, TOYOTA IS REFUSING TO COVER THE REPAIR. THE WOMAN FROM TOYOTA CORPORATE DID NOT SEEM TO CARE WHEN I TOLD HER THAT I WAS WORRIED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AND THAT IT COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT OR DEATH. I OFFERED TO EMAIL THE PHOTOS OF THE FRAME CORROSION, BUT WAS REJECTED. TOYOTA NEEDS TO COVER THIS REPAIR ON ALL VEHICLES WITH FRAME CORROSION REGARDLESS OF THE STATE THEY LIVE IN. *TR

SO THIS IS MY QUESTION, I OWNED A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA WITH A 4.0 V6 ENGINE THAT IS MAKING A KNOCKING SOUND WITH 60,186 MILES ON THE ENGINE. WHAT I FOUND IS THAT THOSE ENGINES IS, THAT THEY HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE # 1AND 2 CYLINDERS AND WILL CREATE A HAZARDOUS SITUATION ON THE ROAD. I REED THAT IS A NON-PUBLIC RECALL ON THOSE ENGINES(VO-6) IS THE CODE FOR THAT. PLEASE WRITE (ASAP) BECAUSE IS DIFFICULT TO ENTER WITH A CONVERSATION WITH ANY TOYOTA DEALER ABOUT MY CONCERN. ON MAY 27, 2013 MY WIFE [XXX] AND I WERE TOWING MY BASS BOAT AND I BLEW OUT THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET IT OFF OF THE ROAD TO CHANGE THE TIRE. IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGING THE TIRE IN MY TRUCK, THE FRAME BENT UNDER THE PRESSURE OF THE JACK AND THE TRUCK, CAME OFF OF THE JACK, LUCKILY I HAD THE TIRE PARTIALLY ON THAT THE LUG BOLTS CAUGHT THE TRUCK. THIS RUSTING AND UNSAFE FRAME ISSUE DATES BACK TO 1/16/13 AT APPROXIMATELY 7:30 AM I WAS CONTACTED BY THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT DURING A REPAIR TO MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEY NOTICED THAT I HAD A HOLE IN MY FRAME AND THAT IT WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION. I FEEL TERRIBLE NOW, BUT I ALL BUT CALLED THE GIRL SERVICE MANAGER A LIAR AND ASKED THAT SHE TAKE ME A PHOTO OF THE HOLE AND SEND IT TO ME AT WORK. I WANT MY TACOMA FIXED, THE FRAME REPLACED AS I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE AND AFTER HAVING EXPERIENCED THE TRUCK FALLING OFF OF THE JACK AFTER THE FRAME BENT WHILE SIMPLY JACKING IT UP, I CAN'T IMAGINE THAT I AM THE ONLY ONE OUT THERE WITH THIS ISSUE. IN MY RESEARCH I AM FINDING VOLUMES OF COMPLAINTS TO TOYOTA IN KIND REGARDING FRAME ROT AND RUST. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED SOME INSTABILITY WHEN DRIVING, IT SEEMS TO HAVE A CONSTANT SHAKE IN THE STEERING. I HAVE PLACED NUMEROUS CALLS TO TOYOTA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPLAINING IN DETAIL MY SAFETY CONCERN AND THE ANSWER I AM CONSTANTLY BEING GIVEN IS THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT CURRENTLY PART OF THE RECALL PROGRAM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AS I WAS RIGHT UP THE STREET FROM THEM. THEY SCANNED FOR THE SERVICE CODE AND IT TOLD THEM THERE WAS A MIS-FIRE IN THE #6 CYLINDER. THEY CHECKED THE SPARK PLUG COIL AND SAID IT WAS FAULTY AND REPLACED IT. WHEN I PICKED UP THE TRUCK FROM THE DEALER THE CHECK ENGINE WAS STILL ON. THEY TOOK IT BACK INTO THE SERVICE BAY AND AFTER 20 MINUTES CALLED ME OVER TO TELL ME THERE WAS COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE #6 CYLINDER AND WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS CRACKED. THIS TRUCK HAS NEVER OVER-HEATED AND THEY COULD NOT EXPLAIN IT. AFTER CHECKING THE INTERNET FOR OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, I FOUND THERE WERE A FEW OTHERS AND THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT HE HAS SEEN IT BEFORE IN THIS ENGINE BLOCK. I CAN'T AFFORD A NEW TRUCK, SO I AM STUCK WITH PAYING FOR NOT ONLY THE COIL REPLACEMENT BUT ALSO THE NEW OR REFURBISHED ENGINE BLOCK ($5,000+). IT WOULD BE GREAT IF THE NHTSA COULD LOOK INTO THE INTEGRITY AND ENGINEERING OF THE ENGINE BLOCK IN THE 2005 4.0L V6 ENGINE IN THE TOYOTA TACOMA. *TR

TO WHO IT MAY CONCERN: WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO RESEARCH AND COVER A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA PROBLEM PLAGUING TOYOTA CUSTOMER. THE ISSUES IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THE FRAME. THE FRAMES ARE FAILING AT THE ENGINE MOTOR MOUNT(VERY VERY DANGEROUS) AND CAUSING THE CARS TO BE ALMOST BE IN-REPAIRABLE(TOYOTA ADVISE ME IT WOULD BE 10,000 FIX). TOYOTA IS OFFERING NO ASSISTANCE AND THERE ARE TONS OF CUSTOMER FEEDBACK ONLINE TO SHOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR FRAMES. FOR MY TRUCK I HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE ON 12/24/2012 AND TOOK INTO A DEALER ON 12/26/2012. THEY SAID IT WAS THE FAN HITTING THE FAN SHROAD THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT. I STARTED HEARING THE NOISE AGAIN AND HAD TO TAKE IT IN ON 1/5/2013...THEY FIRST SAID IT WAS MY MOTOR MOUNTS AND WOULD NEED TO ORDER THE PART..WHEN THEY WERE GOING TO INSTALL THE PART THEY NOTICE A CRACK IN THE FRAME WHERE IT CONNECTS TO THE MOTOR MOUNT. THEY SAID THERE WAS NO OTHER SIGNS IF DAMAGE ANY WHERE AND DID NOT KNOW HOW THAT HAPPENED...MEANING THE FRAME FAILED FROM THE TORQUE OF THE ENGINE.. THEY ADVISE I WOULD NEED TO GET NEW FRAME ($10,000)...I CALLED TOYOTA AND ADVISE THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST. *TR

CONSUMER STATES LOUD NOISE COMING FROM ENGINE AND THAT THE ENGINE WAS OFF KILTER *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE OPENED THE HOOD, HE DISCOVERED THE ENGINE WAS DRASTICALLY LEANING TOWARDS THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE NOISE WAS THE ENGINE'S COOLING FAN HITTING THE SHROUD MEANT TO PROTECT IT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER. AN INSPECTION REVEALED THE MOTOR MOUNT WHICH WAS ATTACHED TO THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE BROKEN FREE AND COLLAPSED INTO THE FRAME ITSELF. THERE WAS ALSO EXTENSIVE RUST ON THE FRAME ON THE REMAINDER OF THE FRAME. A TOYOTA SPECIALIST TOOK PICTURES OF THE FAILED MOTOR MOUNT AND RUSTED FRAME. THE CONSUMER STATED TOYOTA HAS A LONG HISTORY OF FRAME RUST ISSUES, AS A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR PREVIOUS MODELS. *JB

THE VEHICLE MAY OR MAY NOT START FOR SOME TIME AFTER THAT. IF IT DOES START, IT WILL IDLE OK BUT WHEN I STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL IT SHUTS DOWN. AFTER CONTINUALLY STARTING FOR A FEW TIMES IT MAY RUN OK FOR A WHILE. I HAD IT SERVICED AT A DEALER THE FIRST TIME AND THEY ENDED UP REPLACING THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. IT WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT 3-4 MONTHS BUT THEN BEGAN DOING IT AGAIN. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AT THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY FIND NOTHING WRONG. I WAS TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY AND WAS CHANGING GEARS WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SUDDENLY DROPPED TO THE FLOOR AND THE ENGINE SUDDENLY RACED UP TO REDLINE. I HAD THE CLUTCH IN AT THE TIME. I CHECKED TO MAKE SURE MY MAT WAS NOT INTERFERING WITH THE PEDAL. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH THIS TRUCK. I PUMPED THE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RACE. I SWITCHED TO THIRD GEAR AND LET OUT THE CLUTCH. THIS BROUGHT THE RPM'S DOWN BUT CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BEGIN RAPID ACCELERATION. I PUSHED IN THE CLUTCH AND THE ENGINE WENT BACK TO RACING AT REDLINE. AFTER PUMPING THE PEDAL FOR SEVERAL MORE SECONDS THE ENGINE WENT BACK TO NORMAL IDLE. I PUT IT BACK IN GEAR AND CONTINUED WITH MY TRIP. I WORRY ABOUT HOW A LESS EXPERIENCED DRIVER MIGHT HANDLE A PROBLEM LIKE THIS. I AM ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT WHAT THIS BEHAVIOR MIGHT DO TO ENGINE LIFE IF IT KEEPS REPEATING. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHEN SHIFTING FROM FOURTH TO FIFTH GEAR, USUALLY AROUND 45 MPH, THE RPM WOULD INCREASE. THE CONTACT COULD NOT DETERMINE HOW MUCH THE RPM INCREASED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A NORMAL FUNCTION OF THE EMISSION CONTROL. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,300 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,000.

HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURES. A COMPLAINT HAS NOT BEEN FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,000. I PURCHASED A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA PICKUP W/ THE 1 ENGINE. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, I NOTICED A NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD WHEN I ACCELERATE FROM A STOP. THE NOISE SOUNDED LIKE A KNOCK OR A SMALL HOLE IN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. I RETURNED THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER, AND PROVIDED THE INFORMATION. THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T HEAR A THING. (THIS WAS IN PHILDELPHIA). WHEN I RETURNED HOME TO NEW ORLEANS AFTER KATRINA, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A TOYOTA DEALER, WHO SAID IT WAS AN ENGINE KNOCK AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE ABOUT IT. OVER TIME THE NOISE GOT LOUDER AND I TOOK THE TRUCK TO ANOTHER DEALER TOYOTA OF SLIDELL. THEIR TECHNICIAN TOOK A RIDE WITH ME AND HEARD THE NOISE HIMSELF, BUT INDICATED HE FOUND NO PROBLEM WHEN THE TRUCK WAS CHECKED OUT. AT A LATER DATE I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND REPORTED THE NOISE AGAIN AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT TOYOTA HAD A TECHNICAL BULLETIN ISSUED ABOUT THE PROBLEM WHICH WAS IN ONE OF THE TWO EXHAUST MANIFOLDS ON THE ENGINE. BOTH EXHAUST MANIFOLDS WERE REPLACED AND THE NOISE SEEMED TO HAVE BEEN FIXED. AT A LATER DATE, I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND REPORTED THAT THE PROBLEM RETURNED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THEY HAD COMPLETED EVERYTHING THE COULD BASED ON TOYOTA'S GUIDANCE. I REQUESTED THAT THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS BE REPLACED AGAIN SINCE IT SEEMED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS ELIMINATED WHEN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLDS WERE REPLACED ORIGINALLY. HE CHECKED WITH THE REGIONAL TECHNICAL REP WHO SAID TO GO AHEAD AND REPLACE THE EQUIPMENT A SECOND TIME, AND THIS WAS DONE. THE NOISE RETURNED SHORTLY THEREAFTER. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM AND THEY STATED THAT NOTHING ELSE COULD BE DONE AND PROVIDED ME WITH THE TOYOTA COMPLAINT HOTLINE NUMBER. I CALLED THE NUMBER, WAS ASSIGNED A NUMBER AND HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH THE REPRESENTATIVE. THE ARE TO SEND ME SOME ARBITRATION FORMS. I FEEL THAT I WAS SOLD A TRUCK WITH A DEFECT THAT WILL DIMINISH THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE WHEN I EITHER SELL IT MYSELF OR USE IT AS A TRADE-IN. *AK
