TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE BATTERY CABLE WAS TOO SHORT TO REACH THE BATTERY CORRECTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BATTERY CLAMPS FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE WAS PERSISTENT. THE STARTER AND BATTERY WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 154,000.
ENGINE SURGES AT A COMPLETE STOP WHILE IDLING AND IF I DON'T PUT ENOUGH FOOT PRESSURE ON BRAKE PEDAL IT WILL LUNGE FORWARD. IT HAPPENED SO MANY TIMES I BECAME ACCUSTOM TO THE PROBLEM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 TOYOTA TACOMA 4X4 V6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO THE GARAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND THE KEY WAS NOT IN THE IGNITION WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY A STARTER SHORTAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.
MY LATE 1999 TOYOTA ECHO WAS PARKED AFTER A SHORT DRIVE. TWO AND A HALF HOURS LATER IT BURST INTO FLAMES. THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND A LARGE AREA OF MY HOME WAS BURNED. I AND MY NIECE WERE ASLEEP UPSTAIRS. NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE SMELL OF SMOKE WOKE US. WHEN WE FIRST SAW THE CAR, A COLUMN OF WHITE FIRE WAS SHOOTING UP THROUGH THE WINDSCREEN TO THE CEILING 11 FEET ABOVE. THE FIRE CAME FROM THE CENTER OF THE CONSOLE/DASH AREA. AT THAT TIME THERE WERE NO FLAMES AROUND OR UNDER THE CAR. JUST THE COLUMN OF FLAME FROM THE CENTER. THE HORN WAS SOUNDING. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND POLICE ARRIVED WITHIN 10 MINUTES AND CONFIRMED THAT THE FIRE WAS SEATED IN THE CENTRAL DASH AREA. THE KEYS WERE BESIDE BY BED. THE CAR HAD ONLY BEEN SERVICED BY TOYOTA SERVICE CENTERS AND THERE WERE NO MODIFICATIONS TO THE CAR. WHEN TOYOTA WERE NOTIFIED, THEY SENT INVESTIGATORS TO LOOK FOR A RELAY NEAR THE ALTERNATOR. THE RESULTS OF MY INSURANCE', TOYOTA'S AND AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATOR'S INVESTIGATIONS WERE (AS RELAYED TO ME BY PHONE) UNSPECIFIED FIRE STARTING IN THE DASH. *JB
AT PRESENT IM GETTING A STATIC SOUND IN THE STEREO AT DECELERATION LIKE YOU WOULD GET IN THE OLD DAYS WITH NON-RESISTOR SPARK PLUGS. *NLM
MY TRUCK WAS RECALLED FOR A DEFECTIVE TRAILER WIRING HARNESS CONVERTER. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER:01E041000. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO FERRIS TOYOTA IN DOVER, OH. THEY TOLD ME I HAD A CONVERTER THAT WASN'T RECALLED. THEY TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY IT WOULD BE FINE. ON 12/28/01 I HOOKED MY TRAILER UP TO THE TRUCK. BEFORE PULLING OUT I DISCOVERED THAT I HAD NO BRAKE LIGHTS OR TURN SIGNALS ON THE TRAILER. USING A TEST LIGHT I DISCOVERED THAT I HAD POWER TO THE CONVERTER BUT NOT OUT OF THE CONVERTER. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO CAIN TOYOTA WHERE I HAD ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE GENTLEMAN IN PARTS TOLD ME THAT ALL THE WIRING HARNESSES HAD BEEN RECALLED. SO I WROTE THE VIN NUMBER AND CONVERTER PART NUMBER (PT207-04980) DOWN AND TALKED TO THE GENTLEMAN IN SERVICE. HE SAID HE WAS TOO BUSY TO RUN THE NUMBERS, BUT HE WOULD SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR ME NEXT WEEK TO RUN THE NUMBERS AND SEE IF IT WAS COVERED. SO, I CHECKED YOUR WEBSITE AND SAW THAT MY PART NUMBER WAS NOT LISTED. I CAN'T BUY A REPLACEMENT CONVERTER. MINE WAS DISCONTINUED. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THIS IS NOT A COVERED REPAIR. THE UPGRADED WIRING HARNESS WILL COST ME 180 DOLLARS. THIS ISN'T COUNTING THE LABOR COSTS. THEY WON'T SELL THE NEW HARNESS TO ME BECAUSE THEY SAY MY WORKING ON IT WILL VOID MY WARRANTY. YET IN ALMOST THE SAME BREATH THEY TELL ME MY WARRANTY WON'T COVER THIS PROBLEM. I NEED TO GET THIS FIXED, BECAUSE MY TRAILER IS 18 FEET LONG AND TALL ENOUGH TO COVER MY TAIL LIGHTS. CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL 01E41000 LETTER ON TRAILER WIRE HARNESS CONVERTER. DEALER INSPECTED WIRE HARNESS, AND STATED WIRE HARNESS WAS NOT THE ONE ON RECALL. VEHICLE DOES HAVE THE PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED UNDER RECALL.*AK CONSUMER FURTHER STATES THAT THE TRAILER LIGHTS BLEW OUT THE FUSE FOR THE TAIL LIGHT, CONSUMER STATES DEALER REFUSES TO REPLACE FAULTY PART. *TT
WHILE TRAVELING ON A COUNTRY ROAD AT 45 MPH NOTICED FIRE COMING FROM UNDER HOOD AREA, AND FROM TIRE ON PASSENGER'S SIDE. CONSUMER GOT OUT BEFORE VEHICLE EXPLODED. .DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
CAN NOT FIX WIRING HARNESS FOR TOW HITCH WITCH CAUSED HORN,RAIDO,BLICKERS,AND TAILLIGHTS TO FAIL
ENGINE CHECK LIGHT AND AIR BAG LIGHT ARE ON AND WON'T GO OFF. CONSUMER HAD HARNESS WIRES REPLACED AND OTHER ELECTRICAL WIRES REPLACED. DEALER CAN'T DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK
