TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON INSPECTION OF HER ENGINE, SHE DISCOVERED THAT THE OIL HAD COMPLETELY EMPTIED WITHOUT WARNING. SINCE THE DISCOVERY, THE CONTACT WOULD FREQUENTLY REPLACE THE OIL APPROXIMATELY EVERY MONTH DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MAGIC TOYOTA (21300 HWY 99, EDMONDS, WA 98026) WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY HOWEVER, THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 95,000.

NEXT DAY PAID FOR TOWING $400 ( RECEIPT IS PROVIDED) S.I.R.T 32962 DEC.13.2020 ON DECEMBER 14 PAID $ 125 AGAIN TO BE ABLE TO TOW IT TO PAULS TRANSMISSION LOCATED ON 4430 N. DIXIE HWY. I OWN TOYOTA RAV 4 2008. I PURCHASED A USED CERTIFIED VEHICLE IN 2009. I HAVE ENCOUNTERED AN ISSUE WITH MY CAR SUCH THAT ENGINE STARTED STALLING INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVE TO MY HOME. ON THE DASH BOARD I SAW THE ENGINE OIL LIGHT COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO HOME SAFELY AND UPON INSPECTION I FOUND THAT ENGINE OIL LEVEL WAS WAY DOWN TO THE POINT THAT IT WAS NOT DETECTABLE AT ALL. THERE WAS NO OIL ON THE DIP STICK. I LOOKED AT THE SERVICE RECORD AND MY CAR WAS SERVICED ON OCT 15TH 2016 FOR OIL CHANGE AND OTHER OTHER SAFETY RECALL. ON OCTOBER 15, 2016 THE MILEAGE WAS 83406. THE NEXT SERVICE WAS DUE ON MARCH 15 OR AT 88406 MILES. I CALLED THE DCH TOYOTA OF SIMI VALLEY DEALERSHIP AND THEY ASKED TO COME IN THE MORNING FOR INSPECTION. THEN I WENT TO AUTOMOTIVE STORE AND PURCHASED 5W-20 OIL, IT TOOK 3 QUART OF OIL AND I WAS TO SEE THE OILS LEVEL AS NORMAL ON DIP STICK. THEN I ARGUED WITH DEALER THAT IT SHOULD NOT CONSUME 3 OR MORE QUART OF OIL. I WENT TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HE CHECKED THE TAIL PIPE AND HE SAW BURNED OIL. HE CONFIRMED THAT ENGINE IS BURNING OIL. THEN I CALLED TOYOTA MOTOR AND COMPLAINED THAT ENGINE IS BURNING OIL. THEY AUTHORIZED THE DEALER TO DO THE OILS CONSUMPTION TEST. THEY WILL INVESTIGATE ON HOW MUCH OIL IT BURNS? DCH TOYOTA OF SIMI VALLEY DID THE OIL CONSUMPTION STUDY AND REPORTED THAT MY CAR DID NOT CONSUME ENOUGH OILS TO DO THE WARRANTY REPAIR. THEY SAID IT ONLY CONSUMED 3/4 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1200 MILES AND IT PASSED THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. STILL I HAVE THE SAME CAR I PUT ABOUT 2 OR MORE QUART EVERY 1500 MILES. THE ENGINE REPAIR WILL COST ME $5000.00 DOLLARS OR MORE. I THINK DEALER DID FLAWED STUDY ON OIL CONSUMPTION TEST DO THEY DO NOT HAVE TO DO WARRANTY REPAIR.

(ASSUMING TEST IS DONE CORRECTLY) I DONT KNOW. BUT FOUND ON INTERNET THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS ENGINE. I WOKE UP LATE. CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY SINCE 05/18 FOR ANY FIX. I ALWAYS HAVE THE OIL CHANGED FROM THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR. THEY NEVER MENTIONED THIS RECALL UNTIL IT HAD EXPIRED BY SIX WEEKS. I NOTICED THAT IT WAS LOSING OIL SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM ABOUT IT. THEY INSPECTED THE CAR AND TOLD ME THEIR WAS NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF OIL LEAKING OUT AND THEN TOLD ME ABOUT ABOUT THE RECALL. THEY SAID I COULD SPEND 2500.00 DOLLARS TO GET IT REPAIRED. MY QUESTION IS IF TOYOTA MANUFACTURED A DEFECTIVE ENGINE THAT LOSES OIL (MOST LIKELY BURNING IT) THEN WHY IS THIS A TIMED EVENT? IF I HAVE THIS VEHICLE WITH THIS ENGINE THEN THEY SHOULD CORRECT THE RECALLED ISSUE AT NO CHARGE TO ME LIKE EVERYONE ELSE THAT HAD THIS SAFETY ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF A WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM THAT REQUIRED AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT AT THE COST OF $4,000. THE WARRANTY HAD SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS, BUT THE EXPIRATION DATE HAD PASSED; THEREFORE, THE DEALER WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIRS. THAT POLICY WAS FOR 10YRS OR 150,000 MILES, MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 123,000 MILES ON IT BUT AS MENTIONED BEFORE IT IS 10 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS OLD.

HOWEVER, RECALLED OIL HOSE DAMAGED THE INTAKE CAM GEARS. KINGS TOYOTA STATED THEY WILL COVER THE RECALLED PART BUT REFUSE TO COVER THE DAMAGED ENGINE REPAIR. COST OF REPAIR IS $3340.78 + TAX. KINGS TOYOTA ALSO REFUSES TO REIMBURSE FOR TOWING FEE AND RENTAL CAR. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE DUE TO A DEFECTIVE, RECALLED PART. I DON'T BELIEVE THERE WAS A RECALL JUST A MAJOR DEFECT IN THEIR POWERTRAIN. THE VEHICLE IS NOW IN MY DAUGHTERS PROCESSION AND HAVE GRAVE CONCERNS THE ENGINE COULD SEAZE OR CATCH FIRE LEADING TO A CRASH. IN RESEARCHING I FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT AMONGST VARIOUS TOYOTA MODALS AND MODAL YEARS. IF THERE WAS A RECALL THEM I BELIEVE THE TOYOTA DEALER SERVICING THE VEHICLE WAS NEGLIGENT TO FOR PRESCRIBING AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST AND NOT TELLING ME OF ALL RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE. IF THERE WAS NO RECALL THEN TOYOTA IS NEGLIGENT FOR KNOWINGLY AVOIDING A DEFECT AND NOT STANDING BY THEIR PRODUCT. I WOULD LIKE THEM TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE ENGINE OR REPAIR IT SO THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION IS ELIMINATE. ANY ASSISTANCE YOU CAN PROVIDE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

IT WAS RECOMMENDED BY MY TECHNICIAN THAT I HAVE AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST BECAUSE I GO THROUGH A LOT OF OIL. I TOOK IT TO NALLEY TOYOTA OF ROSWELL GA ON 11/7/17 AND MY CAR "PASSED" THE TEST, HOWEVER MY CAR STILL CONSUMES OIL AT RATES NOT HEALTHY FOR THE CAR. I WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER; MARIETTA TOYOTA IN GEORGIA ON 6/21/18. THEY TESTED THE CAR, ADDED 2 QUARTS OF OIL AND SAID THAT I HAVE AN ISSUE, HOWEVER 10 YEARS HAS PASSED SINCE 6/6/06, THE FIRST USE OF THE CAR. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE MANIFESTED ITSELF IN THAT AMOUNT OF TIME BETWEEN DEALER VISITS. I BELIEVE THAT I WAS IMPROPERLY DIAGNOSED BY THE FIRST DEALER BECAUSE THEY DID NOT WANT TO HAVE TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM.

TOYOTA KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM (TSB TO DEALERS) BUT REFUSE TO OFFER ANY RESTITUTION TO CUSTOMERS IF THE VEHICLE HAS PASSED THE 60,000 MILE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. THIS IS A MANUFACTURE PROBLEM AND TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE TO MAKE THESE REPAIRS FREE OF ANY CHARGE TO THE CUSTOMER.

THEY NEVER ONCE MENTIONED TO ME THAT THERE IS A KNOWN CONSUMPTION PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE TYPE ON ANY OF MY OTHER EXPENSIVE VISITS TO THEM BACK WHEN MY MILEAGE WAS UNER 150,000 MILES. IT'S KNOW OVER 167,000 MILES AND SO IS NOT COVERED BY THEIR SO CALLED WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM.

IT IS NOW OVER 150,000 MILES IN AND OCTOBER 2016 TOYOTA CHANGE THEIR POLICY OF UNLIMITED MILES AND UNLIMITED AGE TO EITHER 10 YEARS FROM FIRST DATE OF SERVICE OR HUNDRED THOUSAND MILES. THEY SAID NOTICES WERE SENT OUT BUT THEY DID ADMIT THAT OUR NOTICE PROBABLY WENT TO THE PREVIOUS OWNER. WE BOUGHT THIS IS A CERTIFIED USED IN 2011. SO AFTER ADMITTING THAT THEY DID NOT NOTIFY US OF THE CHANGE AND HAVING THEM WAIT TO DO ANOTHER TEST UNTIL AFTER THE FREE REPAIRS WERE AUTHORIZED THEY DEFINITELY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THIS DISABLED VETERAN. EVEN A LITTLE UNDER THIS AMOUNT OF OIL USE IS EXCESSIVE AS IT INDICATES THIS ENGINE HAS A PROBLEM AS TOYOTA HAS IDENTIFIED. SO FAR THEY HAVE NOT BEEN WILLING TO REPAIR. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER TOYOTA T-SB-0158-14. DEALER WOULD NOT TELL ME HOW MUCH OIL WAS USED IN THEIR TEST. AGAIN ANYTHING IN THE RANGE OF 1 QUART OF OIL IN ABOUT 1,200 MILES IS A INDICATOR THAT THE ENGINE IS EXPERIENCING TOYOTA'S IDENTIFIED DEFECT AND THEY SHOULD REPAIR IT.

THE REPAIR SPECIFICALLY STATES THAT THE LOWER BLOCK IS NOT TO BE OPENED EVEN THOUGH IT WOULD BE ON AN ENGINE THAT HAS HAD OIL PROBLEMS. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN PART OF THE REPAIR (AT NO COST TO ME) WHICH WOULD HAVE ALLEVIATED THIS ISSUE. THE FAILURE OF TOYOTA CORP TO NOTIFY OWNER OF RAV4'S OF THIS ISSUE, FIXING THE ISSUE BEFORE IT BECOMES A PROBLEM AND THEN NOT INSPECTING THE ENTIRE ENGINE FOR LOW OIL GENERATED PROBLEMS HAS NOW LEFT ME WITH A $6500 DOLLAR REPAIR WHICH MORE THAN THE KELLEY BLUE PRICE OF THE CAR. I AM HOPING TO HAVE THIS COVERED BUT SO FAR HAVE NOT BEEN SUCCESSFUL. I AM NOW DOWN ONE VEHICLE WHICH HAS FURTHER COMPLICATED THINGS.

THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND DISCOVERED THAT THE HEAT SHIELD FROM THE MUFFLER WAS DETACHED AND WEDGED NEAR THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE DETACHED HEAT SHIELD WAS REMOVED. THE CONTACT WAS AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SPOT WELD ON THE MUFFLER WAS WEAK AND THE MUFFLER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,536.

MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHO LIED FIRST ABOUT MY VEHICLE HAVING A FAULTY ENGINE AND THEN WHEN I PRESENTED TO THEM THE EXISTING LITERATURE ON THE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM, ONLY THEN DID THEY CONFIRM MY VEHICLE AS HAVING A FAULTY ENGINE. BASED ON MY VIN, I HAVE THE 2AZ-FE ENGINE WHICH POSES A SAFETY RISK TO CONSUMERS IN THAT IT CAUSES ENGINE PROBLEMS INCLUDING FAILURE. TOYOTA KNEW OF THIS DEFECT WHEN I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE AND DID NOT DISCLOSE THIS TO ME. THEY ALSO ISSUED A SAFETY BULLETIN IN 2011 BUT ONLY TO DEALERSHIPS AND NOT TO CONSUMERS. MY CAR WOULD NOT START, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND OIL LIGHT REMAINED ON EVEN WHILE KEY WAS NOT IN IGNITION. ALSO, THERE WAS A HUMMING AND SLIGHT TICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE WHILE THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF. IT SEEMED LIKE SOMETHING HAD SHORTED OUT AND SOMETHING ELECTRICAL WAS CAUSING SOMETHING TO STAY ON CONSTANTLY AND IT WAS DRAINING THE BATTERY. AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET SOMEONE ELSE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM, AND THEY FOUND THAT THERE WAS A LEAK COMING FROM THE WINDSHIELD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. SO I PULLED UP MY CARPET AND SURE ENOUGH THE ENTIRE FLOOR BOARD WAS COVERED WITH WATER AND THE PAD WAS COMPLETELY SOAKING WET. IT APPEARS THAT WATER HAS DAMAGED SOMETHING IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM, AND I DO NOT FEEL THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO REPAIR THIS MYSELF. THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE VOID OF LEAKS AND ABLE TO FUNCTION IN RAIN AND SNOW CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS HALF WAY BETWEEN OIL CHANGES AT THE TIME, MY HUSBAND ADDED 4 QUARTS OF OIL (SO WE KNOW FOR CERTAIN IT WAS EMPTY) AND BROUGHT IT TO TOYOTA. THEY "CHECKED IT", CHANGED THE OIL, AND SENT US ON OUR WAY TELLING US TO MONITOR THE OIL LEVEL. THIS WAS AT 68K MILES. IT WAS NEXT DUE FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT 73,000MILES I CHECKED THE OIL LEVEL YESTERDAY AT 71,000 MILES AND IT WAS NEARLY EMPTY. CALLED THE DEALER AGAIN, WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T GET ME IN FOR 10 DAYS!! I CALLED ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER WHO TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN. THE SERVICE MGR ACKNOWLEDGED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH "CERTAIN RAV 4 ENGINES" AND THAT A SERVICE BULLETIN HAD BEEN ISSUED TO REPAIR THE ISSUE (NOT A RECALL-HE MADE THAT CLEAR). HE EXPLAINED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO FOLLOW THEIR PROCEDURE BEFORE IT CAN BE REPAIRED THOUGH BY DOING TWO OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS (THAT I HAVE TO PAY $24.95 FOR, AND DRIVE 1200 MILES EACH) THEN I WOULD HAVE TO AUTHORIZE THEM TO DO AN ENGINE REMOVAL AND DISASSEMBLY FOR $575 TO DETERMINE IT IS NOT SOMETHING I HAD DONE TO THE CAR. I HAVE BABIED THIS VEHICLE FROM DAY ONE! I NEVER GO BEYOND 4000 MILES FOR AN OIL CHANGE, EVER. TOWED THE CAR BACK TO TOYOTA, THEY KEPT IT THERE A MONTH WAITING FOR THE WARRANTY TECH TO COME INSPECT THE ENGINE. HE CLAIMED I DID NOT MAINTAIN MY ENGINE AND THAT THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER ANY COSTS. I FORGOT AND ONLY REMEMBERED WHEN I STARTED TO SEE THE OIL LIGHT BLINK ON AGAIN WHEN I CAME TO A STOP. I CAME BACK IN TO DEALER IN NOVEMBER, THEY READ THE MONITOR AND TOLD ME I NEEDED TO HAVE MY ENGINE REBUILT; THE SERVICE TECH. MET WITH A MGR, RECHECKED READINGS AND SINCE THE MILEAGE WAS 4000 ON THE MONITOR, THEY THOUGHT THE READINGS WERE SKEWED. SO, THEY RESET THE MONITOR, ADDED OIL TO THE CAR AND I WILL ENSURE THAT I COME BACK AT 1200 MILES TO FIND OUT THE STATUS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR IS SAFE TO DRIVE (GOING ON A LONG DRIVE FOR THE HOLIDAYS). I AM SEEING MANY COMMENTS ONLINE SIMILAR TO MINE AND THEY RELATE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE RAV4 ENGINE. I CALLED TOYOTA USA AND REPORTED THE ISSUE TO THEM EARLIER THIS MONTH. THEY TOLD ME TO WAIT TO HEAR WHAT THE DEALER SAYS. I NOW DRIVE WITH 2 QUARTS OF OIL IN MY CAR AND WILL MONITOR MY OIL LEVELS THROUGHOUT MY TRIP TO AND FROM NY. THE ONBOARD COMPUTER (ECM) PROGRAM IS DEFECTIVE IN THE 2008 RAV4, AND PROBABLY OTHER YEARS AND MODELS, CAUSING OWNERS TO UNNECESSARILY BRING CARS IN AND PAY FOR UNNEEDED SERVICE. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR TO BEGIN AN INTERSTATE DRIVE, 3 FAULT INDICATORS (CHECK ENGINE,VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL, 4 WHEEL DRIVE) ILLUMINATED. FOLLOWING OWNERS MANUAL, MY WIFE CALLED THE NEAREST TOYOTA DEALER WHO TOLD HER TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A TOYOTA DEALER IMMEDIATELY, AND TO DRIVE CAUTIOUSLY, TO ALLOW ADDITIONAL ROOM WHEN FOLLOWING OTHER VEHICLES, AND NOT TO ATTEMPT SUDDEN STOPS. ANOTHER FAULT INDICATOR (CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE) PRESENTED ITSELF ENROUTE. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID THE REASON FOR ALL 4 FAULT INDICATIONS WAS THE #6 CYLINDER MISFIRED 1 TIME A FEW SECONDS AFTER I STARTED THE VEHICLE. HE SAID THE ECM IS PROGRAMMED TO GIVE THESE 4 FAULT INDICATIONS FOR A CYLINDER MISFIRE, BUT HE DID NOT KNOW WHY. HE SAID THAT HE COULD FIND NO REASON FOR THE SINGLE MISFIRE, BUT THAT HE FOUND AND TIGHTENED A SLIGHTLY LOOSE AIR INTAKE HOSE THAT COULD NOT POSSIBLY HAVE CAUSED THE MISFIRE. HE TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE FOR ME TO MAKE MY INTERSTATE DRIVE WITHOUT COMING TO THE DEALERSHIP. I BELIEVE THAT THE ONBOARD COMPUTER PROGRAMMING THAT PROVIDED THESE 4 FAULT INDICATIONS IS DEFECTIVE FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS. 1. A SINGLE CYLINDER MISFIRE IS UNRELATED TO AND HAS NO EFFECT UPON THE THREE SYSTEMS POINTED TO BY THE FAULT INDICATIONS (VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL, 4 WHEEL DRIVE, CRUISE CONTROL) 2. A SINGLE CYLINDER MISFIRE AT STARTUP IS NOT AN EMERGENCY SITUATION REQUIRING IMMEDIATE SERVICE AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WITH EXTRAORDINARILY CAUTIOUS DRIVING ENROUTE. 3. DURING THE 1 HOUR DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP THE CYLINDERS OF THE VEHICLE FIRED SUCCESSFULLY AROUND 360,000 TIMES, AND THE PROGRAMMING DID NOT RECOGNIZE THIS FAULTLESS OPERATION AND AUTOMATICALLY CLEAR THE FAULT INDICATORS.

I HAVE OWNED THIS 2008 TOYOTA RAV4 SINCE I BOUGHT BRAND NEW. I DID ALL THE OIL CHANGES MYSELF ON TIME. AFTER APPROX 2 1/2 YEARS AND 30,000 MILES I NOTICE CONSIDERABLY LESS OIL IN DRAIN PAN AT OIL CHANGES. I STARTED PULLING THE DIP STICK BETWEEN CHANGES AND SAW THAT IT NEEDED SUBSTANTIAL OIL ADDED BETWEEN CHANGES. NOT UNTIL CLOSE TO MY WARRANTY EXPIRING DID I FIND OUT THAT THEIR IS A TSB FROM TOYOTA ON THIS VERY 2.4 LITER ENGINE FOR A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT TOYOTA ADMITS IS THEIR FAULT. I WENT TO MY LOCAL DEALER FOR AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. I MADE THE MISTAKE OF NOT CHECKING THEIR TOPPED OFF OIL LEVEL ON MY DIP STICK BEFORE THEY APPLIED A SECURITY SEAL. THE DEALER HAD ME RETURN AFTER 1K MILES, WHICH BY THE TSB THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD ME RETURN IN 1200 MILES. THEY PULLED THE DIPSTICK WHILE I WAS NOT PRESENT AND STATED THAT IT WAS WELL WITHIN RANGE. I HAVE SINCE PERFORMED MY OWN CONSUMPTION TEST 7,000 MILES AFTER THE DEALER DID , AND MY ENGINE IS CONSUMING 1.2 QUARTS IN 1080 MILES. THIS IS A FAIL BY TOYOTAS' OWN TSB GUIDE LINES. I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE NOW. I CAN'T SELL IT IN GOOD FAITH, BECAUSE OF THE PRODUCT LIABILITY. I AM THANKFUL THERE WAS A CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AROUND THE MONTH OF OCTOBER, MY CAR WOULD BE GOING AROUND 40-50 MPH AND IT WILL SUDDENLY STALL OR POWER DOWN AND THE CAR JUST SHUTS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF EVERYTHING. ITS A GOOD THING I GO TO WORK EARLY AROUND 4-5 AM AND TRAFFIC IS LOW OR I WOULD BE IN MAJOR ACCIDENT AND AT FAULT TOO? THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. SOMETIMES HAPPENS WHEN I FLASH ON HIGH BEAM AND EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS IN LOW SPEED AROUND 15-25MPH OR TURNING AROUND A CORNER. THERE IS NEVER A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. WHEN MY CAR GOES INTO STALL, ALL POWER DIES AND MY RADIO/CD/MP3 PLAYER STOP PLAYING MY DASHBOARD BECOMES ALL PITCH BLACK AND HEADLIGHTS ALL DIE AS WELL. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN THIS ITS FRUSTRATING AND SCARY, I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW FROM MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. AT APPROXIMATELY 11:15AM SATURDAY JANUARY 22, I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT ON SPIT BROOK ROAD IN NASHUA NH FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS, WHEN MY LEASED TOYOTA RAV4L SUDDENLY REVVED IT'S ENGINE AND STARTED TO MOVE FORWARD. AS IT DID, I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD, AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO REV THE ENGINE AND SUDDENLY JUMPED FORWARD HITTING THE CAR THAT WAS ABOUT 6 FEET IN FRONT OF ME. AT THAT TIME, I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, STOPPED THE ENGINE AND CHECKED TO SEE IF THE WOMAN IN THE CAR AHEAD OF ME WAS HURT. SHE WAS NOT. HER CAR HAD NO DAMAGE TO IT. SHE WENT ON HER WAY. IDLE SPEED KICKED UP UNEXPECTEDLY AT A STOP LIGHT. THE ENGINE WAS CLOSE TO FULL OPERATING TEMPERATURE, ABOUT 1.5 MILES FROM HOME. THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS NOT ON. THE DEFROSTER WAS ALSO NOT ON, SO THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THE IDLE TO KICK UP. VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE AT AN INTERSECTION. IT LURCHED FORWARD, BUT WAS EASY TO HOLD BACK WITH THE BRAKE. I THEN PUT MY LEFT FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND RELEASED MY RIGHT FOOT TO BE SURE THAT BOTH BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR WERE NOT BEING PRESSED SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE HIGH IDLE CONTINUED, ABOUT 1100 RPM IN DRIVE. I THEN PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND THE TACHOMETER READ 1300-1400 INITIALLY, THEN SLOWLY DROPPED TO ABOUT 1000. ONCE BACK IN DRIVE IT DROPPED TO ABOUT 800 RPM, WHICH IS NORMAL OPERATION. IT HAS NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE OR SINCE. THAT PARTICULAR INTERSECTION HAS POWER LINES AND/OR TRANSFORMERS THAT HAVE INTERFERED WITH MY AM RADIO IN OTHER VEHICLES, BUT NOT THIS ONE. *TR
