The contact owns a 2015 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. While driving at an undetermined speed, the vehicle became sluggish and lost motive power. The contact stated that the oil level was 3-quarts low. The contact added oil as needed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and the mechanic performed three oil consumption tests on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
ENGINE ISSUE FOR 2015 COROLLA/TOYOTA WILL NOT REFUND/FUELPUMP REPLACED WITH ONLY 30,000 MILES
THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ENGINE OIL DIPSTICK AND/OR DIPSTICK TUBE ON THE 2015 TOYOTA COROLLA WHICH USES 0W-20 OIL. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO OBTAIN AN ACCURATE READING ON THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL AND HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED THIS ON ANY OTHER VEHICLE. THE OIL TENDS TO FORM A LONG "TAIL" UP THE DIPSTICK MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DISCERN WHERE THE ACTUAL LEVEL IS. ATTEMPTING TO OBTAIN A READING WITH MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS YIELDS DIFFERENT POSSIBLE OIL LEVELS AND THE LEVELS ARE DIFFERENT ON EACH SIDE OF THE DIPSTICK. I WOULD NOTE THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED ON NUMEROUS FORUMS ON THE INTERNET INCLUDING FORUMS DEDICATED TO TOYOTA ENTHUSIASTS AS WELL AS GENERAL CAR FORUMS AND ENGINE OIL FORUMS. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED NOT ONLY FOR THE COROLLA BUT ALSO FOR OTHER TOYOTA MODELS. SOME OWNERS HAVE RESORTED TO MODIFYING THE DIPSTICK WHICH SHOULD NOT BE NECESSARY. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE. NOT BEING ABLE TO OBTAIN AN ACCURATE READING OF ENGINE OIL LEVEL PUTS THE ENGINE AT RISK OF DAMAGE AND EVEN SERIOUS AND SUDDEN FAILURE IF THE OIL IS OVER OR UNDER FILLED. ENGINE DAMAGE AND PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH CAN OBVIOUSLY OCCUR IF ENGINE FAILURE OCCURS WHILE IN OPERATION ON ROADS. TOYOTA SHOULD TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION ON THIS ISSUE, INVESTIGATE IT, AND PROVIDE A FIX AVAILABLE AT DEALERSHIPS AND ANNOUNCE THAT FIX TO OWNERS. IT IS UNCLEAR WHETHER IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ACTUAL DIPSTICK DESIGN, THE TUBE THAT THE DIPSTICK GOES INTO, OR OTHER, BUT A FIX IS DEFINITELY IN ORDER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ACTIVATED, THERE WAS A STRONG MOLD ODOR COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WERE THE AIR CONDITIONER CHARCOAL FILTER WAS REPLACED AND A CHEMICAL SPRAY WAS APPLIED TO DESTROY THE MOLD. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED IN THE SPRING, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEN AGAIN UNTIL THE SUMMER. WHILE ON A LONG ROAD TRIP, THE MOLD ODOR WAS DETECTED AGAIN AND THE CONTACT BECAME ILL. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURER'S PROTOCOL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,697. UPDATED 01/10/2017*CT
