The transmission malfunctioned during acceleration. Toyota acknowledged the defect torque converter was used for 2012 - 2014 Camry. However, the manufacturer refused to repair or replace it because the car haven't been driven during COVID pandemic, and warranty expired. During the acceleration after traffic light or lane merging, the car would shudder, stall, jerk and shake. This could get others or myself killed because the car suddenly slows down or stops. The defect torque converter has been inspected and confirmed by a local Toyota dealer (Bernardi Toyota), but they refused to address voluntarily. There was no warning, or error prior to the failure. It happened suddenly from a few months ago, with ~100,000 miles. So basically, the manufacturer (Toyota) is aware that they sold a defect product, which could get someone killed, but refused to repair or replace it. They just hoped customers didn't drive the cars and let the time lapse, then they are off the hook. I am attaching the documents issued by Toyota, where they acknowledged the defect parts.

Torque Converter started shuddering a couple of weeks ago. I was stranded in busy intersection for just long enough to scare me into understanding that this issue is dangerous. I found that Toyota had issued LSC E03 - Limited Service Campaign and I was not notified. There was no recall. Instead there was a window of time that I missed, apparently. How many 100's of thousands of Camry's are having this same issue but were unable to afford the cost after Toyota's Warranty Extension ended? I would bet it's alot. This will impact young peoples, and the working poor especially hard because they are the ones buying used cars, and they typically don't have the time or the money for expensive repairs. Even if the repairs are for safety. So, they will be driving the cars with a known safety flaw designed and sold by Toyota.

While driving have noticed shuddering at random times. Car just now has 134k on it and the service records never showed what computer update was done. Was unaware of any issues with torque converter issues. Have had cruise control set to speed limit and had car acceleration up to 25miles over speed set, car has also slowed down without anything being changed. Went to dealership because torque converter tsb and was told it was out of warranty in Aug 2021. had ecm reprogrammed with original owner in 2014... toyota knew this was an issue and never corrected parts

THE CAR STUTTERS REALLY BAD AT LOW SPEEDS, I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID I WAS OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY BY TWO WEEKS BUT IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER, I HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM OFF AND ON FOR YEARS BUT THOUGHT IT WAS SOMETHING SMALL BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T LAST LONG, HOWEVER FOR THE PAST 3 MONTHS OR SO IT HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND DOES IT EVERY TIME, WE THOUGHT WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTICS WHICH IS OVER $100 WHICH IS WHY WE DIDN'T TAKE IT SOONER, HOWEVER THE DAY THAT WE TOOK IT THEY SAID IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 2 WEEKS AND WHEN WE CALLED TOYOTA THEY WOULD NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH MY YEAR MAKE AND MODEL TOYOTA, JUST ASKING FOR HELP GETTING THIS HAZARDOUS AND SAFETY ISSUE RECALLED.

I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND THAT WAS REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ELECTRICAL. THE CAR CONTINUED TO PERFORM IN THE CAPACITY. I TOOK THE CAR BACK AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS ANOTHER RECALL AND THE CAR WAS REPAIRED. THE CAR CONTINUED AND I TOOK THE CAR TO ANOTHER MECHANIC. HE INFORMED ME THE TRANSMISSION WAS GONE. AT NO TIME DID ANY LIGHTS COME ON THE VEHICLE TO MAKE ME AWARE OF THE ISSUE. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER CONFIRMED WHAT THE PREVIOUS MECHANIC STATED. I CONTACTED TOYOTA WHO OFFERED 1,000 TOWARDS REPAIRS. THE REPAIRS ARE OVER 6K. I STILL OWE TOYOTA 15K FOR THIS CAR AND THEY COULD NOT OFFER AN EXPLANATION ON WHY A TRANSMISSION WENT OUT AFTER 3 YEARS

SOMETIMES IT CAN BE STARTED AFTER YOU SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE, SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO TRY A COUPLE TIMES IN ORDER TO START AGAIN. TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO TEST AND FIND STALLING HISTORY BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND TO PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY WOULD TEST DRIVE AND TRY TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER 2 WEEKS, THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE IT AND COULDN'T WORK ON IT ANY FURTHER AND TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR BACK. AFTER TAKING THE CAR BACK, 2 DAYS LATER IT STALLED AGAIN AND IT WAS BROUGHT INTO ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALERSHIP.

I WAS FORTUNATE THAT ALL THE CARS IN THE OTHER DIRECTION WAITED UNTIL I CLEARED THE INTERSECTION BEFORE GOING. WHEN THE TRAFFIC LIGHT CHANGES FROM GREEN TO RED, YOU ARE IN DANGER OF BEING HIT BY ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE YOU'RE STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. I CALLED THE DEALER SERVICE DEPART AND WAS TOLD BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS RANDOM ALL THEY COULD DO WAS HAVE A TECH GO ON A RIDE ALONG AND SEE IF IT HAPPENED. THIS 2013 WAS BUILT IN THE SAME PLANT AS THE 2010-12 CAMRYS THAT ARE PART OF THE TSB. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER TWICE AND WAS TOLD THAT 'THESE SOUNDS ARE WITHIN THE NORMAL RANGE OF NOISES AN ENGINE CAN MAKE'. I DISAGREE. IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS BACK IN DAYTON SOME MAJOR PROBLEM APPEARED WHILE DRIVING, FIRST THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING SOME SMALL NOISE BUT NO WARNING INDICATOR CAME UP ON THE DASHBOARD, LATER ON AFTER ABOUT A MILE IT SUDDENLY AND COMPLETELY STOPPED WHILE I SLOWED DOWN FOR A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTARTED THE CAR, THEN IT SUDDENLY STOPPED AGAIN WHILE GETTING ON THE I-75 HIGHWAY EXIT.
