Your dashboard has melted in high heat, becoming sticky and slimy, which blocks your view while driving. The melted material releases fumes that can be harmful to breathe. Both the dealer and manufacturer were notified but haven't repaired the issue.

Your dashboard is melting and warping in the heat, creating a dangerous glare from sunlight reflection that gets worse as the damage progresses. The melting dashboard also produces an odor that causes headaches on hot days, and the surface becomes too hot to touch or clean—fingerprints and dust stick permanently and can't be wiped away. This has been happening since 2014 and worsens over time. Fixing this typically requires a full dashboard replacement, which is an expensive repair.

You have documentation showing your 2010 Camry was painted with color 040 (Super White), and Toyota's website indicates that vehicles with this paint color from 2008-2017 are eligible for a free repaint. A dealership or body shop will need to sand down the peeling areas and apply a fresh coat of paint to restore your car's finish.

Dear Representative. I am submitting a complaint as per Request #605168 Replacement of stick dashboard by Toyota. I have 2010 Toyota Camry and I am the original owner. I have sticky dashboard problem since 2012/2013 and so recently I was just looking around to replace it as now bugs and other things started sticking on it. During my search I found that Toyota has this as recall in 2015/2017 and so I reached out to them for replacement. They rejected my request stating that they had sent me 2 letters notifying about the replacement and I had not responded. I responded back to Toyota confirming that I have not received any letters from Toyota in regards to dashboard. If I had received letters, why would not I replace it. I would like to request NHTSA to investigate the issue further as I asked Toyota if they had any proof to show that I have received the letter and they did not respond to it. Thank you.

The dealer informed the contact that the dashboard needed to be replaced and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

ON OR ABOUT THE ABOVE DATE OF APRIL 15, 2015 I WASHED MY 2010 TOYOTA CAMRY AT A LOCAL CAR WASH USING THEIR AUTOMATED HIGH PRESSURE WASH AND WAX. A FEW DAYS AFTERWARD I REALIZED THE CENTER TRUNK AREA, THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE, HELD 2 TO 3 INCHES OF WATER, AND THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRUNK ALSO HAD WATER. I HAVE READ POST AFTER POST ONLINE STATING MANY OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, AND SOME HAVE STATED THE REAR WINDOW AND BODY PANELS WERE NOT SECURELY SEALED FROM THE OUTSIDE ELEMENTS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ASSEMBLED AT THE FACTORY. IN JUNE OF 2014 WATER WAS GETTING INSIDE ON THE CARPET ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE SOAKING THE CARPET COMPLETELY. THE AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSATION DRAINAGE TUBE HAD PLUGGED UP UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE THAT CAUSED THE INTERIOR BY THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE TO BE SOAKED IN WATER. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS EVER INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE ODOMETER JUST RECENTLY TURNED OVER 45,145 MILES. NOW, THERE IS ALREADY AN INDICATION OF MOLD, AND MOLD CAN BE DEADLY. *TR

IF I TOUCH IT, THE BLACK GUMMY/GOOEY SURFACE COMES OFF ON MY FINGER. PREVIOUSLY, I HAVE NOT USED ANY PRODUCTS TO CLEAN IT OTHER THAN A DAMP CLOTH (WITH WATER ONLY). OF COURSE, NOW I CAN'T CLEAN IT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, AS I CAN'T AFFORD TO REPLACE IT. I BELIEVE THE MANUFACTURER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING IT AS THEY SOLD A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. I'VE LIVED HERE FOR MORE THAN 25 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS WITH ANY OTHER CAR I'VE OWNED, SOME OF WHICH WERE MANY YEARS OLDER THAT MY CURRENT 4-YEAR-OLD TOYOTA CAMRY. IN ADDITION, WHEN DRIVING AT MORE THAN 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES EVEN SLIGHTLY, AND THE CAR VIBRATES. I'VE HAD IT CHECKED TWICE BY A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY CLAIM EVERYTHING IS FINE AND IT'S JUST THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM FUNCTIONING. HOWEVER, THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. IT FEELS UNSAFE TO ME, AND I DON'T BUY THEIR EXPLANATION. AFTER GOOGLING THE PROBLEM, THERE SEEMS TO BE OTHERS WITH THIS PROBLEM ON THE SAME CAR. IT HAS BEEN SUGGESTED THAT THE ROTOR IS TOO SMALL FOR THE INCREASED CAMRY SIZE AND THUS BECOMES WARPED. THIS ALSO SHOULD BE EXAMINED AND REPLACED FREE OF COST BY THE MANUFACTURER IF THIS IS THE CAUSE. THIS VEHICLE WAS FOUR YEARS OLD AND HAD LESS THAN 10,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF MY PURCHASE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, IT WAS IN IMMACULATE CONDITION FROM ITS PREVIOUS ONE OWNER. HOWEVER, WHEN I RETURNED HOME TO ROME, GEORGIA ON APRIL 20TH, 2014 I NOTICED A TYPE OF ?STICKINESS? TO THE DASH BOARD AREA. I DROVE MY VEHICLE TO WORK AND ON THAT TUESDAY, APRIL 22ND, MY SUPERVISOR, CHIEF PROBATION OFFICER [XXX] WANTED TO LOOK AT MY NEW CAR. I SHOWED HIM MY VEHICLE AND ALSO POINTED OUT THE STICKINESS ON THE DASH BOARD. BOTH HE AND I ASSUMED THAT SOMEONE SPILLED SOMETHING ON IT. THE STICKINESS WAS LOCATED ON BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD. ON APRIL 27TH, 2014 I DROVE MY VEHICLE ON A TRIP TO SOUTH FLORIDA TO SEE MY SISTER GRADUATE COLLEGE. WHEN I RETURNED, ON MAY 5TH I TOOK MY CAR TO HAVE IT WASHED AND CLEAN THE INSIDE. WHILE WIPING OFF THE DASHBOARD I NOTICED THE STICKINESS AGAIN AND MY FINGERNAIL SWIPED ACROSS THE DASH AND LEFT A GASH IN THE DASHBOARD. I DO NOT HAVE LONG NAILS. I THEN BEGAN TO FEEL AROUND ON THE DASHBOARD AND NOTICED THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD WAS SOFT AND COULD BE EASILY DESTROYED. I THEN KNEW THAT THIS WAS NOT SOMETHING SOMEONE HAD SPILLED ON THE DASH AND REALIZED THIS IS A DEFECTIVE DASH BOARD. SINCE THE PAST 60 DAYS THERE HAS BEEN A POPPING, CREAKING AND METAL FLEXING NOISE EMANATING FROM THE ROOF PANEL ESPECIALLY PRONOUNCED WHEN CROSSING OVER ANY UNEVEN PAVEMENT SURFACE, THE NOISE BEGAN AT 40,000 MILES, 4000 MILES AFTER THE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY EXPIRED, MY RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS AN INHERENT PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL TOYOTA MODELS ESPECIALLY THE CAMRY AND HAS BEEN EVIDENT SINCE MODEL YEAR 2007 WITH SUN/MOON ROOF INSTALLATIONS, ON CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND IS ALMOST ALWAYS RELATED TO THE SUNROOF FRAME/GUIDE RAILS/INSULATION AND HAVE REPAIRED IT ON IT NUMEROUS OCCASIONS ALL BEING UNDER WARRANTY SINCE THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED ON MY VEHICLE I WAS DIRECTED TO CONTACT TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE, ON CONTACTING TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE I WAS REFUSED ANY ASSISTANCE AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE PROBLEM, PER MY RESEARCH THE PROBLEM HAS ESCALATED IN SOME CASES TO THE SUNROOF SHATTERING CAUSING A MAJOR DRIVING AND HEALTH HAZARD AND POSSIBLE SEVERE INJURIES FROM COLLISIONS AND/OR CUTS FROM SHATTERING GLASS. THE DEALER MADE REPAIRS TO THE REAR SEAT AND SEAT BELTS, IN WHICH THE RAT HAD CHEWED THROUGH. THE DEALER ALSO CLEANED THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT. THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE DEALER ABOUT POSSIBLY HAVING A WIRE MESH INSTALLED OVER THE AIR INTAKE TO PREVENT ANY FUTURE RODENTS FROM ENTERING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT ALTHOUGH THE FAILURE WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN HER YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL, HE WOULD HAVE TO GET AUTHORIZATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING AUTHORIZATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,500 AND THE CURRENT WAS UNKNOWN.

I AM REQUESTING THAT DOT NHTSA INVESTIGATE THE DRIVER'S CONTRIBUTION TO UNINTENDED ACCELERATION (UA) AND TOYOTA'S ACCELERATOR/BRAKE PEDAL DESIGNS THAT MAKE IT POSSIBLE. I WAS DRIVING A RENTED TOYOTA CAMRY IN A PARKING LOT. I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND INSTEAD OF SLOWING DOWN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO GAIN SPEED. I PRESSED HARDER ON THE BRAKE AND IT ACCELERATED. THE HARDER I TRIED TO STOP THE CAR THE FASTER IT WENT. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE FOR A MOMENT AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING. I BELIEVE THAT MY FOOT WAS ON BOTH THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDALS. I MEASURED THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR AND FOUND THAT IT WAS ONLY 1.5 INCHES. MY VEHICLE A GM ACADIA IS 2.5 INCHES. THIS MADE ME THINK THAT THE TOPS OF THE TWO PEDALS ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. I MANAGED TO FIND 6 DIFFERENT TOYOTA MODELS INCLUDING THE PRIUS AND THEY AVERAGED 1.5 INCHES BETWEEN THE TOPS OF THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDALS. I MEASURE COMPETITIVE VEHICLES AND FOUND THEY AVERAGED 2.2 INCHES. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE TOYOTA DESIGNS ' THEY ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. I HAVE CONTINUED TO INVESTIGATE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND HAVE COLLECTED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF DATA THAT SUPPORTS THE FACT THAT THE DRIVER IS A MAJOR CAUSE OF UA AND THAT SOME VEHICLE DESIGNS MAKE IT POSSIBLE. I HAVE CONDUCTED DRIVING TESTS AND SIMULATED THE CONDITIONS THAT CAUSE UA. THEY CLEARLY IDENTIFY THAT TOYOTA PEDAL DESIGNS CONTRIBUTE TO THE DRIVER BEING A CAUSE OF UA. GOOD VEHICLE PEDAL DESIGNS MAKE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO SIMULTANEOUSLY AND UNINTENTIONALLY DEPRESS BOTH PEDALS. FROM THE ODI INCIDENT REPORTS GM VEHICLES SEEM TO BE PARTICULARLY INSENSITIVE WHILE THE FORD 150 TRUCK SEEMS TO HAVE A LARGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING IN THE PEDAL DESIGNS OR OPERATION THAT MAKES THIS POSSIBLE. I HAVE READ TWO OLDER DOT REPORTS CONCERNING UA AND THEY INDICATE THAT THE DRIVER IS A CAUSE OF UA.
