VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS
Toyota is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 Camry, Camry Hybrid, RAV4, Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Tundra, Sequoia, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Yaris, Scion xB, Scion xD and Pontiac Vibe vehicles. The power window master switch assemblies in some of these vehicles were built using a less precise process for lubricating the internal components of the switch assemblies. Irregularities in this lubrication process may cause the power window master switch assemblies to malfunction and overheat.
Fix: Toyota will notify its owners, and dealers will inspect the switch and apply a special grease that inhibits heat build up or replace any switch damaged by the defect, free of charge. Toyota owners that experience a problem with a switch should not attempt to make repairs, but should contact their Toyota dealer or the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331. General Motors will contact the Pontiac Vibe owners affected by this recall and GM dealers will inspect and repair switches as necessary. Those owners may contact Pontiac Customer Care at 1-800-762-2737.

The issue is with the 2008 Toyota Camry dashboard that is melting shining reflective light straight into my eye. Toyota is not treating this as a recall matter, and only did a Customer program to get it repaired for a short time.
Subject: Toyota I purchased a 2008 Toyota Camry many years ago. I still have the vehicle and there is a safety issue having to do with dashboard. There was extended product warranty coverage that ended in 2019 on the defect. I was not notified about this issue. When I contacted Toyota they said I "may" have been notified if I brought it to a Toyota dealer for service (which I did not). The issue is the dashboard starts to melt and gets sticky and causes glare on the windshield during the day when sunlight hits it and at night when vehicle lights are oncoming. I moved to Florida in late 2019 and noticed the safety issue at that time. If you google the issue (Toyota dashboard recall) it made the news etc. Toyota was able to make it a product issue and was able to then use the extended warranty rather than calling it a safety issue. The articles on the issue (even from Toyota state it causes glare). Can this be looked into or at a minimum have the laws changed so these safety concerns can't be listed as a product issue? I would have thought this would have been a class action lawsuit with the number of issues because of this safety problem. My understanding is safety recalls do not expire and in my opinion (and many others on line that have the same issue) this is a safety issue. I had contacted the AGs Office in Florida and they suggested I make contact with your office. Below is some information on the melting dashboards. In 2014 Toyota offered to replace dashboards in 3.4 million vehicles after owners in sunny states like Arizona and Florida reported that their dashboards were melting, causing a dangerous glare on the windshield. ... Toyota's extended warranty on dashboards expired in 2019. Thank you for your time.
WHEN VEHICLE IS IN MOTION ON CITY STREETS OR OPEN HIGHWAYS ON SUNNY DAYS, DRIVER SOMETIMES BECOMES BLINDED FROM GLARE FROM "MELTING" SHINY DASHBOARD. THIS PROBLEM WITH "MELTING" DASHBOARD BEGAN MAYBE 5-6 YEARS AGO AND HAS KEPT GETTING WORSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDOW FAILED TO OPERATE CORRECTLY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND WITH THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE DIAGNOSED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
THE TOYOTA MELTING DASHBOARD IS HORRENDOUS. MY DASHBOARD IS SO GOOEY AND SHINY THAT ON ANY DAY WITH MILD SUN IT IS HARD TO SEE OUT THE WINDSHIELD BECAUSE OF THE REFLECTION/SHINE. THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR HAS FAILED. THE INTERNAL CLIPS MECHANISM IS BROKEN CAUSING THE VISOR TO FALL DOWN WHILE DRIVING AND BLOCKING MY VISION TO SEE THE ROAD AND OTHER DRIVERS. . THIS IS DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE 3 YOUNG ADULTS IN MY HOME WHO REFUSE TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE OF IT. TOYOTA CLAIMS TO HAVE SENT A RECALL FOR THE PART THAT I DID NOT RECEIVE ALTHOUGH I HAVE RECEIVED OTHER RECALL POSTCARDS FOR THIS CAR. THEY ARE STATING THE RECALL IS NO LONGER VALID BUT THE PROBLEM IS KNOWN TO THEM AND HAS CONTINUED IN THE FOLLOWING YEARS MODEL CARS AND YET THEY WILL NOT COVER IT. I FEEL THIS QUALIFIES FOR A CLASS ACTION SUIT.
THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR WILL NOT REMAIN IN CORRECT POSITION. THE VISOR DROPS WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION STARTLING THE DRIVER AND TEMPORARILY IMPAIRING VISION.
VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, I LOWERED MY VISOR TO LOOK IN MY MIRROR, ONCE I WAS DONE I TRIED TO RETURN MY VISOR TO ITS UP RIGHT POSITION AND IT WOULD NOT STAY. NOTHING LOOKS BROKEN BUT CLEARLY SOMETHING IS WRONG IF IT WONT STAY UP AND NOW IT IS IN MY LINE OF VISION FOR DRIVING. THIS VEHICLE WAS SUBJECT TO A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM BECAUSE DRIVER-SIDE SUN VISORS WOULD STOP STAYING UP AND DROP DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. WE HAD OUR HIGHLANDER VISOR REPLACED UNDER THIS LATE 2012 PROGRAM. IT WAS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD. NOW THE CAMRY WHICH IS OUR CREAM PUFF HAS THE PROBLEM AND TOYOTA SAID THE CSP HAS EXPIRED. THEY TREATED IT AS A COSMETIC ANNOYANCE BUT IT'S A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR DRIVERS 6' TALL OR MORE. THIS HAPPENS IN MANY SITUATIONS BUT IS MOST DANGEROUS ON THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUN VISOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING, MY SUN VISOR WILL FALL DOWN WHEN I HIT A BUMP, AND SOMETIMES FOR NO REASON. IT CAN BE VERY STARTLING AND OF COURSE DANGEROUS.
THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING AWAY. THE GLARE CURRENTLY IS SO SEVERE I HAVE DIFFICULTY SEEING THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD ON A SUNNY DAY. THE DASH LOOKS AS IF SOMEONE SPRAYED GLUE ALL OVER IT AND FEELS THAT WAY. I WAS AT THE DEALER IN JANURARY AS TOYOTA HAS A SAFETY CAMPAIGN CURRENTLY WHICH DOES NO GOOD IF THEY HAVE NO PARTS.
TOYOTA HAD A RECALL 'FIX' FOR THE VISOR ON DRIVERS SIDE BRAKING AND FALLING DOWN BUT THEY ONLY FIXED THE LEFT DRIVERS AND NOT THE RIGHT PSGRS SIDE WHICH THEY SHOULD HAVE REPLACED BOTH AT THE TIME. NOW MY RIGHT SIDE IS BROKEN AND INHIBITING MY ABILITY TO VIEW ANY TRAFFIC ON THE RIGHT SIDE DUE TO IT'S HANGING DOWN AND WON'T GO UP AT ALL.
THE SUN VISOR ON 2007 TO 2011 TOYOTA CAMRY ARE DEFECTIVE. THEY DROOP AND EVENTUALLY FALL OFF DUE TO USAGE. THE VISOR HAS NOW FALLEN OFF TWICE. TOYOTA KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM AND EXTENDED THEIR WARRANTY FOR THIS PROBLEM 7 YEARS BUT IT CONTINUES TO FAIL OVER AND OVER. BAD DESIGN, BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE.

CALLED TOYOTA OF ORLANDO (866-945-0493) AND SPOKE TO ASHLEY IN THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON OR ABOUT 11/03/2015 AND SHE CONFIRMED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE AND SHE SAID THEY WOULD ORDER THE DASH THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. HAVE CALLED NO LESS THEN SIX TIMES TO FOLLOW UP ONLY TO BE TOLD THE PART HAS NOT ARRIVED YET. IT HAS BEEN SIX MONTHS NOW SINCE THE REQUEST FOR SERVICE WAS ORIGINALLY PLACED.

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED FROM SAVANNAH HYUNDAI. I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED AND WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SUBSTANTIAL GLARE THAT COMES OFF THE MELTED, STICKY DASHBOARDS. THE PASSENGER SIDE SUNVISOR FLOPS DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY OBSTRUCTING THE DRIVERS VIEW.
THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WON'T STAY IN PLACE - IT FALLS DOWN AND TOTALLY OBSTRUCTS MY VIEW OUT OF THE FRONT WINDOW. TOYOTA REFUSES TO FIX THIS SO I NOW HAVE IT TIED UP WITH STRING SO I CAN SEE OUT THE WINDOW. I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG THIS TEMPORARY FIX WILL LAST! THIS IS MY FIRST TOYOTA - I'VE ALWAYS HAD FORDS FOR MANY YEARS (40+) AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OTHER CAR! TOYOTA RECEIVED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS - ESPECIALLY WITH THE 2007 THRU 2011 CAMRY MODELS. THEY SENT US A "ENHANCEMENT WARRANTY" IN 2012. EARLIER THIS YEAR, THE SUN VISOR BEGAN TO SLOWLY DROP ONLY ABOUT AN INCH. LIVING IN MICHIGAN WITH ALL THE ICE AND SNOW AND SINCE THE DEALER IS ABOUT 50 MINUTES AWAY IN GOOD WEATHER, I DECIDED TO BRING MY CAR IN FOR THIS WHEN MY OIL CHANGE WAS DUE, WHICH WAS IN MAY. WHEN I CALLED TO MAKE THE APPOINTMENT I WAS TOLD THAT IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY AND NO LONGER COVERED BY THE ENHANCED WARRANTY - THAT IT EXPIRED IN JAN 2015. I CALLED THE 800 # AND THEY REFUSED TO COVER IT. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION - WHICH BLOCKS THE FRONT WINDOW VIEW - IT IS A CLEAR SAFETY HAZARD!! THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF MY CAR IS COMPLETELY DROPPED (WON'T STAY UP AT ALL), WHILE TONS OF OTHERS TOYOTA OWNERS HAVE SAME/SIMILAR PROBLEMS - THEY HAVE EITHER DROPPED OR DROP SUDDENLY WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS, ETC. - IN OTHERS, THEY NEVER KNOW WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN AND THEIR VIEW IS OBSTRUCTED! THE SHOP KEEPS SAYING THEY ALREADY ADDRESSED THIS RECALL, BUT THE MANUFACTURER SAYS IT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. THE SHOP SAYS I CAME IN ON A SELF PAY BASIS AND THEY ALREADY DID MY SAFETY RECALL BUT THE RECORDS SHOW IT WAS NEVER DONE. THE PLASTIC ROD THAT CONNECTED TO THE METAL IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN STABILITY WAS CRACKED. THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR FRACTURED ONCE AND THE PASSENGER SIDE VISOR FRACTURED TWICE. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AFTER THE FIRST FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AGAIN AFTER THE FAILURES RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.
ON THE FREEWAY, I PULLED MY SUN VISOR DOWN AND IT "FLOPPED" DOWN AND COULDN'T BE PUT IN EITHER THE UP OR DOWN POSITION. IN THE SITUATION I WAS IN, I HAD TO STEER WITH ONE HAND WHILE HOLDING THE VISOR UP OUT OF THE WAY SO I COULD SEE. I SENSED THIS WAS NOT A SAFE THING TO DO SO I JUST PULLED THE VISOR OFF COMPLETELY. I TOLD THEM THAT ONE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE OTHER. I ALSO ASKED THEM TO CHECK ON LINE WITH IPETITIONS THAT HAD 527 SIGNATURES WITH THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

THE VEHICLE DASHBOARD HAS BEEN MELTING ON HOT DAYS RESULTING IN A SHINY, MIRROR LIKE SURFACE THAT REFLECTS SUNLIGHT AND GLARES THE WINDSHIELD REDUCING VISIBILITY. THE MELTED DASHBOARD SURFACE IS VERY STICKY AND COULD AFFECT THE AIRBAG FUNCTIONALITY AS THE AIRBAG COVER COULD FUSE WITH THE SURROUNDING MELTED DASHBOARD SURFACE. DIAGNOSIS IS "WIPER ARM SLIPPED SPLINES" 2) ON 4/16/10, WHILE DRIVING ON STREET AT LOW SPEED (30 MPH) HEAVY SMOKE CAME OUT OF DRIVER SIDE WINDOW SWITCH. AFTER I PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, THE SMOKE STOPPED. CAR WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY TOYOTA DEALER AND DIAGNOSTIC WAS SWITCH LOCKED ON "ON" POSITION. I BELIEVE THIS IS ONE OF THE TOYOTA "RECALL" CASE. 3) ABOUT 11/2013, WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY THE TIRE AIR PRESSURE LIGHT WENT ON. I DROVE BACK TO TOYOTA DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS BECAUSE OF COLD WEATHER. NO FIX WAS PERFORMED. HOWEVER,THE LIGHT WENT ON / OFF SINCE THEN AND AFTER A MONTH STAYED ON ALL THE TIME. MY CAR WAS PARKED OUTDOORS IN THE RAIN. THE INSIDE OF THE CAR WINDOWS WERE DRIPPING WITH MOISTURE. WHEN I DECIDED TO GO TO FOR A DRIVE, I REACHED BEHIND MY SEAT TO THE REAR FLOOR FOR MY PAPER TOWEL ROLL AND CLOTH TOWELS TO WIPE OFF THE WINDOWS AND THEY WERE SOAKED WITH WATER. I HAD TO HAVE ALL CARPETS REPLACED AND HOSE CLAMPS ADDED TO PREVENT ANY FURTHER DAMAGE. IT COST $2467.57 TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE BECAUSE TOYOTA DID NOT REQUIRE HOSE CLAMPS ON THE 4 DRAIN HOSES FROM THE SUNROOF. I ASKED TOYOTA IF THEY WERE GOING TO NOTIFY OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS OF THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM AND THEY INDICATED AN ANSWER OF, NO! I THINK THEY SHOULD BE FORCED TO LET OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS OF THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM. I HAVE ALL OF THE COMMUNICATIONS WITH TOYOTA IF YOU WANT COPIES. I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN IRVINE, CA AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SUN VISOR ASSEMBLY AND SUN VISOR BRACKET HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON CERTAIN 2007-2011 MODELS AND THAT MY MODEL WAS ON THE LIST. HOWEVER, WHEN I CAME TO PICK UP THE CAR I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE THE CAR VIN SHOWS THAT THE CAR WAS MADE IN JAPAN AND THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IS ONLY APPLICABLE TO CARS FROM THE UNITED STATES. THEY WOULDN'T REPLACE MY PASSENGER ONE (EVEN THOUGH THEY KNEW IT WOULD BREAK) BECAUSE IT WAS NOT BROKEN. I TRIED TO TELL HIM THAT BEING THE DRIVER'S SIDE THAT WAS DANGEROUS BECAUSE I COULDN'T SEE WITH IT JUST HANGING THERE. WELL, LOW AND BEHOLD, AFTER MY WARRANTY RAN OUT MY PASSENGER ONE BROKE. I JUST TOOK IT DOWN, MY HUSBAND TRIED TO FIX IT BUT COULDN'T. I CAN'T AFFORD TO REPLACE IT. NOW THE DRIVER'S SIDE ONE THAT I INITIALLY REPLACED IS BREAKING AGAIN!!! SAME PROBLEM. NO PASSENGER EVEN IN THE SEAT USING THE VISOR. 1-2 WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING OCCURS WITH THE DRIVER'S VISOR. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH ALL 2007-2008 CAMRY'S. TOYOTA HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THE SUN VISORS FOR ALL CAMRY'S BUILT IN THE U.S.A., BUT HAS ELECTED NOT TO OFFER THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY TO IT'S OWNERS OF THE JAPANESE BUILT MODELS (SUCH AS MINE). THE VISORS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE THROUGH TOYOTA FOR REPLACEMENT AND THEY ASK $230 PER VISOR PLUS LABOR FOR INSTALL (OVER $500 WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE). UPON CALLING TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE TO ASK WHY THEY AREN'T OFFERING THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR JAPANESE BUILT MODELS THAT ARE HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AS THEIR AMERICAN-BUILT COUNTERPARTS THEY HAD NO ANSWERS FOR ME. THEY DID OFFER TO EXTEND ME A ONE-TIME CREDIT FOR $250 IN REPAIRS TO OFFSET THE COST OF THEIR INFERIOR PRODUCT AND KNOWN PROBLEM. THIS DOESN'T EVEN COVER 50% OF THE COST OF PARTS AND LABOR TO HAVE BOTH OF THE VISORS REPAIRED. *TR

THE VISOR HANGS AT DANGEROUS EYE LEVEL BECAUSE THE SPRING MECHANISM TO HOLD THE VISOR IN THE RESTING POSITION AGAINST THE ROOF IS DEFECTIVE. I'VE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND SEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN TRAFFIC WHEN THE VISOR SUDDENLY FALLS AND BLOCKS THE SIGHT OF THE DRIVER. *TR
PRIOR TO JULY 17, 2010, THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR, HAD LOOSEN UP/BROKE AND WOULD NOT STAY IN PLACE. THIS WAS A HAZARD AND I HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED. THE PASSENGER'S SIDE VISOR BEGAN MAKING NOISE SIMILAR TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHEN IT FIRST STARTED, THEN THE NOISE WAS LOUDER. WE RECEIVED A "WARRANTY ENHANCE NOTICE" WHERE TOYOTA MOTOR SALES, U.S.A., INC. WAS INFORMING US ABOUT EXTENDING THE WARRANTY OF THE VISORS FOR A PERIOD OF 7 YEARS. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THEY WOULD REIMBURSED THE OWNERS THAT HAD THEM REPLACED AND WE NEEDED TO SUBMIT A COPY OF THE REPAIR ORDER, PROOF OF PAYMENT, AND PROOF OF OWNERSHIP. WE SUBMITTED THE REPAIR ORDER FROM THE TOYOTA DEALER THAT REPLACED THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR WHICH IS ALSO PROOF THAT THE DEALER WAS PAID FOR, AND A COPY OF THE REGISTRATION; NO DEALER LET'S YOU LEAVE WITHOUT PAYING OR MAKE INVOICES AS A FAVOR FOR CONSUMERS; PLUS THE FACT THAT THEY ARE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MANUFACTURER. WELL, TO OUR SURPRISE THEY WANTED A RECEIPT ON HOW THIS BILL WAS PAID. THIS IS A TACTIC OF THE MANUFACTURER OR THE CONSUMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO AVOID OR DELAY THE REIMBURSEMENT PROCESS AND TO DISCOURAGE CONSUMERS FROM PURSUING THEIR CLAIMS. THE DEALER REPLACED THE OTHER VISOR AT NO CHARGE. THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR IS BEGINING TO MAKE THE SAME NOISE AS THE PREVIOUS ONE, NOT EVEN TWO YEARS FROM THE TIME IT WAS REPLACED. *TR
THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WILL NOT STAY UP CAUSING VISIBILITY ISSUES, ESPECIALLY FOR TALLER DRIVERS. THE PASSENGERS SIDE IS STARTING TO DROOP TOO SO I KNOW IT WON'T BE LONG BEFORE IT GOES TOO. TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPLACE THIS AND IT WILL COST $150 PER SIDE PLUS TAX. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL, IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WEATHER STRIPPING THAT WAS AROUND THE WINDSHIELD MALFUNCTIONED, ALLOWING EXCESSIVE AIR AND WATER TO LEAK INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE VISOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 71,000.

THIS SEEMS TO BE A BIG DEAL WITH ALOT OF THE TOYOTA VISORS, BUT YET THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS ITEM. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS ISSUE FIXED AND NOT AT MY EXPENSE AS THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN. IF YOU PUT THE VISOR IN THE UP POSITION AGAINST THE TOP OF THE CAR, IT WILL CONTINUE TO FALL DOWN IN FRONT OF MY VIEW. IF YOU PUSH IT FORWARD TOWARDS THE WINDOW IT AGAIN WILL COME BACK TOWARDS ME. LAST WEEK, MY DRIVER SIDE VISOR BROKE AND WENT DOWN, SO NOW I HAVE NO VISOR WHICH CREATES A SAFETY ISSUE. I STARTED LOOKING ONLINE ABOUT THIS ISSUE, AND I SEE A LOT OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS. IT'S DANGEROUS ENOUGH DRIVING THROUGH 2 CONSTRUCTION ZONES IN THE MORNING, BUT NOW I HAVE TO USE ONE HAND TO SHIELD MY EYES DUE TO THE GRADES I DRIVE AND LOCATION OF SUN IN THE SKY. THIS IMPEDES MY DRIVING. I FOUND THE BROKEN VISOR HANGING USELESS AFTER WORK ON DAY AND COULDN'T TAPE OR RIG IT UP SO HAD TO PULL IT OFF IN ORDER TO SEE OUT THE WINDSHIELD! WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THIS BROKE DURING RUSH HOUR IN CONSTRUCTION? PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. SEEMS LIKE A SIMPLE QUALITY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE FIXED OR RECALLED DUE TO POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION. PLUS IT'S A $32,000 CAR AND QUALITY SHOULD BE BETTER THAN THAT OF A $12,000 CAR. *TR

DRIVER SIDE VISOR BROKE. THE VISOR'S SUSPENSION NO LONGER HOLDS VISOR UP AND ITS AFFECTING VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING. CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS CONTACTED BUT THEY REFUSED TO TAKE CARE OF IT AND WANT TO CHARGE $120 TO FIX IT. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS THROUGH OUT THE INTERNET OF UNHAPPY CUSTOMERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING. IT'S UNFAIR THAT OWNERS ARE EXPECTED TO PAY FOR A PART THAT SHOULD OBVIOUSLY BE RECALLED. TOYOTA WON'T ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY AND REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM. I DISCOVERED THAT MY ONLY OPTIONS FOR FIXING THIS PROBLEM WERE TO SPEND A GOOD SUM OF MONEY TO HAVE THE DEALER REPLACE IT OR TO JUST TAKE IT OFF. I OPTED TO REMOVE THE VISOR. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA. IN DOING RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM ALL MODELS OF TOYOTA THAT ADDRESS THIS SAME ISSUE. *TR

IT LOOKS LIKE THE VISOR PART IS OPEN SO THE HINGE CAN NOT WORK AS DESIGNED. I AM NOT SURE IT IS RELATED TO TEXAS HOT SUMMER BUT CERTAINLY THIS IS A QUALITY ISSUE THAT TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL OR FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS IT BLOCKS MY VIEW BECAUSE THE SUN VISOR KEEPS PROPPING BACK DOWN. WHEN I ASK THE DEALER TO FIX IT AGAIN, THEY WANTED 120 DOLLARS TO FIX EACH SUN VISOR! READING OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAINTS, IT SEEMS ALL THE MODEL OF CAMRY FROM 2007- 2011 HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS...YET NO FIX FROM TOYOTA. TOYOTA QUALITY= DECLINING. IT SEEMS LIKE TOYOTA AND THE DEALERSHIP IS MAKING MONEY OFF OF DEFECTS AND REFUSAL TO COMMIT TO QUALITY CONTROL TO SUN VISOR. THE SUN VISOR HAD BEEN FLOPPING DOWN A BIT FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF FEW WEEKS, THEN IT JUST QUIT GRIPPING THE SHAFT THAT KEEPS IT IN THE "NON-USE' POSITION -I.E. VISOR HORIZONTAL PARALLEL TO ROOF - SO THAT IT WAS HANGING DOWN PERPENDICULAR TO THE ROOF PLANE, BLOCKING VISION OUT THE FRONT OF THE CAR. IT HAS NOT STAYED UP SINCE. RESEARCH ONLINE HAS PROVEN TO ME THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH THESE MODEL YEAR (AND 2007 MODEL YEAR) CAMRYS AND THEY DO REPRESENT A DRIVING HAZARD, PARTICULARLY IF AND WHEN THEY FLOP DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE IN HEAVY, URBAN TRAFFIC AND THE LIKE. *JS

MY DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR BROKE ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO. I WENT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE IT. IT WAS ABOUT $160 TO GET THE PART AND INSTALLED. I BOUGHT IT ON EBAY FOR UNDER $100 AND INSTALLED IT MYSELF. IT WASN'T DIFFICULT AND TOOK UNDER 5 MINUTES TO DO. NOW, THE PASSENGER SIDE BROKE IN THE SAME SPOT THE OTHER VISOR DID. HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN? WHILE ADJUSTING THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR THE VISOR BROKE AND WOULD NO LONGER STAY UP IN EITHER POSITION. IT JUST DANGLED DOWN AND SEVERELY RESTRICTED THE DRIVER'S VISION. THERE WAS NO WAY TO TEMPORARILY FIX THE VISOR TO MAKE THE CAR SAFE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP, AND REPAIR NECESSITATED REPLACING THE ENTIRE VISOR AT A COST OF $140. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH CAMRYS AND THE REPAIR COST COULD DETER PEOPLE FROM REPLACING THE VISOR, RESULTING IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION, AS VISIBILITY IS VERY POOR WITH THE VISOR DANGLING DOWN IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER. *TR

THE DEALERSHIP NOW WANTS $1000 TO REPLACE THE CARPET. THERE WERE MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THEIR COMMUNICATION AND THEY WERE NOT TRUTHFUL. I DIDN'T GET A CUSTOMER SURVEY. HOW CONVENIENT FOR THEM. IN AUGUST 2011, I BEGAN TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR. IT DOESN'T STAY UP IN THE FOLDED POSITION. AT TIMES IT WOULD ALL OF THE SUDDEN FALL OPEN WITHOUT TOUCHING IT. THE RANGE OF MOTION OF THE VISOR BECAME VERY LIMITED. EVEN IN THE DOWN POSITION IT WOULD NOT STAY BACK. THIS BECAME AN ISSUE ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING IN THE DIRECTION OF BRIGHT SUNLIGHT. NOT BEING ABLE TO POSITION THE VISOR AS NEEDED IMPEDED MY ABILITY TO DRIVE SAFELY. *TR

SO, IF I'M DRIVING INTO THE SUN, I HAVE TO UNTIE IT; BUT BECAUSE IT HANGS STRAIGHT DOWN, IT BLOCKS MY TOTAL VISION. THE PROBLEM IS COMPOUNDED BECAUSE I LIVE IN FLORIDA AND I AM CONSTANTLY USING MY SUN VISOR YEAR ROUND. *TR
THE SUN VISOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE HAD BEEN LOOSE FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS, THEN AROUND SEPTEMBER, IT JUST BROKE AND BECAME FLOPPY. WE WERE UNABLE TO MAKE IT STAY IN RAISED POSITION, AND OPTED TO REMOVE IT ALL TOGETHER TO BE ABLE TO HAVE GOOD VISIBILITY AT ALL TIMES. THE TOYOTA COMPANY ASKED $120 TO REPLACE IT. THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, BUT WE WERE TOLD THAT THE WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THIS PART. *TR
LETTER TO THE ADMINISTRATOR FROM CONGRESSMAN ISRAEL ON BEHALF OF ONE OF HIS CONSTITUENTS REGARDING THE SAFETY OF THE 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE SUN VISORS ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WERE MANUFACTURED WITH DEFECTIVE PARTS. THE INADEQUATE DESIGN CAUSED THE SUN VISOR TO FALL DOWN AT RANDOM TIMES WITH THE INABILITY TO SECURE IT BACK IN TO PLACE.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND PUT THE SUN VISOR DOWN. WHEN I TRIED TO PUT IT BACK UP AFTER THE SUN WASN'T IN MY EYES, IT WOULDN'T GO UP. WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA TO TRY AND FIX IT THEY SAID IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND I WOULD HAVE TO FIX IT MYSELF. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX IT AND WHEN I ASKED THEM TO CLARIFY THAT THEY WOULDN'T HELP ME OUT WITH THE FIX EVEN THOUGH IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THEY CONFIRMED AND SAID YES. I ALSO WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ASKED THE SERVICE MANAGER. WHEN I TOLD HIM THAT THE CAMRY HAS HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THE SUN VISORS BREAKING HE SAID YEAH THEY DO BUT AS OF RIGHT NOW THERE IS NO RECALL ON THEM SO THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO HELP PEOPLE GET THEM FIXED. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR HAS BROKEN AND WILL NOT STAY UP IN PLACE. THERE IS NO WAY TO KEEP THIS UP AND IT BECOMES A DRIVING HAZARD. REMOVAL OF THE VISOR THEN LEAVES THE DRIVER BLIND FROM THE LIGHT OF THE SUN IN THE MORNING AND IN THE EVENING. IT IS APPARENT THAT THIS PART FAILS ON A REGULAR BASIS AND THAT TOYOTA HAS CONTINUED TO USE THE SAME MECHANISM IN THE TOYOTA CAMRY SUN VISOR OVER A SEVERAL YEAR SPAN AND SIMPLY USES IT AS A REVENUE SOURCE FROM THE DRIVING PUBLIC. *TR

I DIDN'T DO IT THERE, BUT INSTEAD BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY OWN MECHANIC, RAILROAD AUTO CARE IN SYOSSET, WHERE IT ALSO COST $150.00. THE PASSENGER SIDE VISOR HAS NOT YET BEEN FIXED-I HAVE TO DECIDE WHAT TO DO. $300 FOR TWO SUN VISORS IS A LOT OF MONEY. BOTH SUN VISORS ON OUR 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY HAVE FAILED. THE DRIVER SUN VISOR FAILED FIRST IN JULY OF 2011. IT BEGAN NOT GOING ALL WAY BACK TO THE TOP. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK IT WOULD NOT STAY UP AT ALL AND BEGAN TO HANG DOWN BLOCKING OUR VIEW AS WE DROVE. AS A TEMPORARY SOLUTION WE BEGAN TO PUSH THE VISOR TO THE SIDE SO THAT WE COULD SEE IN FRONT OF US - HOWEVER IT DID MAKE IT DID OBSCURE OUR SIDE VIEW. WITHIN TWO WEEKS TIME, THE VISOR WAS COMPLETELY OFF THE HINGES AND FALLING OVER/HANGING FROM THE CORNER. NOW, (NOVEMBER 2011) THE PASSENGER SIDE VISOR HAS BEGAN TO FALL AND WILL NOT SAY UP. *TR
THE SUNVISORS ARE VERY CHEAPLY MADE. THEY USE A METAL CLIP THAT SWIVELS AROUND A ROAD AND A PLASTIC CASING AROUND THE METAL CLIP. THE METAL CLIP PUTS WAY TOO MUCH PRESSURE FOR THE PLASTIC TO WITHSTAND, RESULTING IN FAILURE. NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED OF THEIR SUNVISORS BREAKING AND SUDDENLY HANGING IN THEIR FACE, BLOCKING THEIR VISION. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE SUNVISORS MUST BE FORCEFULLY PULLED OUT OF THEIR SOCKET TO ALLOW UNOBSTRUCTED DRIVING. BOTH OF MY SUNVISORS FAILED IN THE SAME MANNER WITHIN A COUPLE OF MONTHS OF ONE ANOTHER. THE CAR WAS 2.5 YEARS OLD. THE BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY HAD JUST EXPIRED -- DUE TO MILEAGE, AS WE DROVE A LOT OF HIGHWAY MILES. THERE'S NO JUSTIFICATION FOR THESE VISORS TO FAIL THIS EARLY. UPON RETURNING HOME, I UTILIZED A PIECE OF TWINE TO HOLD IT OUT OF MY SIGHT-LINE. I CONTACTED TOYOTA THIS MORNING AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD NOT RECEIVED ENOUGH COMPLAINTS TO WARRANT ANY ACTION. UPON DOING AN ONLINE SEARCH, THERE APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH BOTH THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SUNVISORS IN 2007 AND 2008 CAMRYS, BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS THAT I FOUND IN A VERY SHORT TIME. I EVEN HAVE THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY SAID THE VISORS ARE EXCLUDED, BECAUSE OF THE HUGE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THEM. BOTH OCCURRED OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY WINDOW. IT IS NOW DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IN EARLY MORNING AND LATE EVENING, BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF THE VISORS. WHENEVER THE VEHICLE'S VENTILATION, HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM WERE ENGAGED THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 28,000.

ON ONE OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED IN RAINY WEATHER CONDITIONS, THE MIRRORS AUTO-DIMMED. VISIBILITY WAS REDUCED AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE DEALER WOULD NOT ASSIST. THE MANUFACTURER REFERRED HIM TO A DEALER. THE FAILURES HAVE NOT BEEN REMEDIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,000.

THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,020 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,000.
