Component: VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS
Toyota Motor Company (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 Tundra, Sequoia, Corolla, Corolla Matrix and Scion xB, 2008-2011 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid, 2007 Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2009 Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2006-2011 RAV4, 2006-2010 Yaris, and 2009-2010 Scion xD and Pontiac Vibe vehicles. During the manufacturing of the Power Window Master Switch (PWMS), grease lubricant may have been inconsistently applied to the sliding electrical contacts.
Risk: If the sliding electrical contacts are not protected by lubricant, debris and moisture that get into the switch may cause a short circuit and the switch assembly may overheat and melt, increasing the risk of a fire.
Fix: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the switch, applying a lubricant if no abnormality is found. If abnormality is found, the PWMS circuit board will be replaced, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 20, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is C0M.

NHTSA Campaign: 12V491000
Component: VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS
Toyota is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 Camry, Camry Hybrid, RAV4, Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Tundra, Sequoia, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Yaris, Scion xB, Scion xD and Pontiac Vibe vehicles. The power window master switch assemblies in some of these vehicles were built using a less precise process for lubricating the internal components of the switch assemblies. Irregularities in this lubrication process may cause the power window master switch assemblies to malfunction and overheat.
Risk: If the switch overheats, it may melt, possibly resulting in a fire.
Fix: Toyota will notify its owners, and dealers will inspect the switch and apply a special grease that inhibits heat build up or replace any switch damaged by the defect, free of charge. Toyota owners that experience a problem with a switch should not attempt to make repairs, but should contact their Toyota dealer or the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331. General Motors will contact the Pontiac Vibe owners affected by this recall and GM dealers will inspect and repair switches as necessary. Those owners may contact Pontiac Customer Care at 1-800-762-2737.

Component: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL
TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2010 PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAN GET STUCK IN THE WIDE OPEN POSITION DUE TO ITS BEING TRAPPED BY AN UNSECURED OR INCOMPATIBLE DRIVER'S FLOOR MAT.
Risk: A STUCK OPEN ACCELERATOR PEDAL MAY RESULT IN VERY HIGH VEHICLE SPEEDS AND MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO STOP THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
Fix: TOYOTA FILED AN AMENDED DEFECT REPORT ON NOVEMBER 25, 2009, STATING THAT DEALERS WILL MODIFY THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND, ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, ALTER THE SHAPE OF THE FLOOR SURFACE UNDER THE PEDAL. THESE CHANGES ADDRESS THE RISK OF PEDAL ENTRAPMENT DUE TO INTERFERENCE WITH THE FLOOR MAT. REDESIGNED ACCELERATOR PEDALS WILL BECOME AVAILABLE BEGINNING IN APRIL 2010 AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY MODIFIED PEDAL WITH THE NEW PEDAL IF DESIRED. ALSO, DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY GENUINE TOYOTA OR LEXUS ALL-WEATHER FLOOR MATS WITH REDESIGNED ALL-WEATHER MATS, OR REPURCHASE THE PREVIOUS MATS FROM OWNERS WHO DO NOT WANT THE NEW ONES. ADDITIONALLY, SOFTWARE MODIFICATIONS WILL BE INSTALLED ON CAMRY, AVALON AND LEXUS ES 350, IS 350 AND IS 250 MODELS THAT WILL ENSURE THAT THE BRAKE OVERRIDES THE ACCELERATOR IN THE EVENT BOTH BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS ARE APPLIED. TOYOTA WILL BEGIN MAILING LETTERS TO OWNERS ON DECEMBER 31, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331, LEXUS AT 1-800-255-3987.

TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 AVALON, MODEL YEAR 2007-2010 CAMRY, MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 COROLLA, COROLLA MATRIX, RAV4, MODEL YEAR 2010 HIGHLANDER, MODEL YEAR 2008-2010 SEQUOIA, AND MODEL YEAR 2007-2010 TUNDRA VEHICLES. DUE TO THE MANNER IN WHICH THE FRICTION LEVER INTERACTS WITH THE SLIDING SURFACE OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL INSIDE THE PEDAL SENSOR ASSEMBLY, THE SLIDING SURFACE OF THE LEVER MAY BECOME SMOOTH DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. IN THIS CONDITION, IF CONDENSATION OCCURS ON THE SURFACE, AS MAY OCCUR FROM HEATER OPERATION (WITHOUT A/C) WHEN THE PEDAL ASSEMBLY IS COLD, THE FRICTION WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS OPERATED MAY INCREASE, WHICH MAY RESULT IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECOMING HARDER TO DEPRESS, SLOWER TO RETURN, OR, IN THE WORST CASE, MECHANICALLY STUCK IN A PARTIALLY DEPRESSED POSITION.
Risk: THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MAY BECOME HARD TO DEPRESS, SLOW TO RETURN TO IDLE, OR, IN THE WORST CASE, MECHANICALLY STUCK IN A PARTIALLY DEPRESSED POSITION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Fix: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A REINFORCEMENT BAR IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHICH WILL ALLOW THE PEDAL TO OPERATE SMOOTHLY. GM WILL NOTIFY OWNERS FOR THE PONTIAC VIBE PLEASE SEE 10V-018. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON FEBRUARY 5, 2010 AND WILL BE COMPLETED ON MARCH 15, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331.
NHTSA Campaign: 06V096000
Component: AIR BAGS
ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, DUE TO IMPROPER ASSEMBLY OF THE AIR BAG INFLATOR, WHICH IS USED IN THE SIDE AIR BAG, THE CURTAIN SHIELD AIR BAG, AND THE KNEE AIR BAG ASSEMBLY, SOME INFLATORS WERE PRODUCED WITH AN INSUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF THE HEATING AGENTS NECESSARY FOR PROPER AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. IN THIS CONDITION, THE EXPANSION FORCE OF THE GAS MAY BE INSUFFICIENT TO PROPERLY INFLATE THE AIR BAG WHEN THE SRS SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED DURING A CRASH.
Risk: THIS MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE OCCUPANT IN THE INVOLVED SEATING POSITION IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.
Fix: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SPECIFIC SRS AIR BAG. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 6, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-888-270-9371, SCION AT 1-866-548-1851, OR LEXUS AT 1-800-255-3987.
NHTSA Campaign: 07E082000
Component: EQUIPMENT
CERTAIN ALL WEATHER FLOOR MATS (AWFM) SPECIFICALLY SOLD AS AN OPTIONAL ACCESSORY FOR USE ON THE 2007 AND 2008 MODEL YEAR LEXUS ES350 AND TOYOTA CAMRY VEHICLES. THE AWFM INCLUDES TWO GROMMET HOLES AND RETAINING HOOKS (CLIPS) TO SECURE THE MAT TO THE VEHICLE'S CARPET. IF THE AWFM IS NOT SECURED BY ITSELF OR IF IT IS PLACED ON TOP OF AN EXISTING CARPETING FLOOR MAT, THE MAT COULD MOVE FORWARD DURING THE VEHICLE USAGE AND IT MAY INTERFERE WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL.
Risk: THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MAY TEMPORARILY BECOME STUCK IN A PARTIALLY DEPRESSED POSITION WHEN RETURNING TO THE IDLE POSITION. IF THIS CONDITION OCCURS, IT MAY INCREASE THE POSSIBILITY OF A CRASH.
Fix: TOYOTA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS OF ALL 2007 AND 2008 LEXUS ES350 AND TOYOTA CAMRY VEHICLES ABOUT THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH NOT ALL OF THESE OWNERS WILL HAVE PURCHASED THE ALL WEATHER MATS. IF THE OWNER HAD NOT PURCHASED THE MATS, THEY ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. THIS LETTER WILL ADVISE OWNERS WHEN REPLACEMENT MATS WILL BE AVAILABLE OR HOW TO RETURN THE ALL WEATHER FLOOR MAT SET TO OBTAIN A REFUND. A SECOND LETTER WILL BE SENT AFTER MATS ARE AVAILABLE REQUESTING OWNERS TO RETURN THEIR MATS TO A LEXUS OR TOYOTA DEALER FOR EXCHANGE OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE MAT. THE FIRST LETTER IS EXPECTED TO BE SENT DURING EARLY OCTOBER 2007 AND THE SECOND IN LATE NOVEMBER 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT THE LEXUS CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 1-800-255-3987 OR THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER AT 1-888-270-9371.
Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 3612)
Engine →4 issues
Your 2007 Camry burns through oil much faster than normal, consuming about 1.5 quarts every 1–2 months. Even after Toyota replaced your pistons and piston rings under their oil consumption program, the problem never stopped. You have to constantly top off your oil to avoid engine damage, and if you don't monitor it closely, your engine could fail.

Your dealership told you that your engine needs to be replaced due to low oil levels, even though you hadn't noticed any oil leaks, smoke from the exhaust, or warning lights on your dashboard. You've been advised to regularly check and top off the oil yourself until you decide whether to replace the engine or trade in the vehicle. You're frustrated because both options are expensive and your car is otherwise in good condition.

Your engine is burning through oil much faster than normal, requiring you to frequently top it off and keep extra oil on hand. The dashboard warning light doesn't alert you to low oil levels, so you have to manually check the dipstick regularly. The dealership claims this is normal wear, but the problem has gotten progressively worse over time. A mechanic will need to diagnose the source of the oil loss—which could involve inspecting the engine gaskets, valve seals, piston rings, or other internal engine components.

Your 2007 Camry is consuming oil at an unusually high rate — the engine uses up oil between scheduled maintenance intervals, even though there's no visible leak. You have to check the oil every two weeks and keep extra oil in the trunk to prevent running dangerously low. The low oil warning light isn't alerting you when levels drop, which could eventually cause engine damage if the oil runs out completely. A dealer inspection and possible engine repair or component replacement may be needed to stop the excessive oil consumption.

Your dashboard has melted and become sticky, creating a shiny surface that reflects sunlight into your eyes and makes it hard to see while driving. The melting material also releases chemical fumes in the cabin that can cause breathing discomfort. This is a known manufacturing defect, but Toyota refused to repair it because your warranty expired. Fixing this will likely require replacing the entire dashboard panel.

Your dashboard has become sticky and is melting, which is creating reflections on your windshield that make it harder to see the road. This is happening even though Toyota replaced your dashboard once before under a recall campaign. The manufacturer says your car is no longer under warranty and won't cover the repair. Fixing this will likely require replacing the dashboard with a new one or having it refinished.

Your dashboard has started peeling and cracking over time. You contacted your Toyota dealer about this issue, which is covered under Toyota's Warranty Enhancement Program (ZE6), but they told you to wait for parts to become available instead of repairing it. The dashboard covering will likely need to be replaced or refinished to restore it.

Air Bags →2 issues
Your airbag warning light is coming on frequently—sometimes constantly and sometimes intermittently. You've already checked that the electrical connections under both front seats are secure, so the problem likely lies elsewhere in the airbag system itself. Fixing this will probably require a technician to scan your vehicle's diagnostic codes and test the airbag control module or wiring.

Vehicle Speed Control →1 issue
Your car unexpectedly accelerated and revved up twice—most seriously on 09/07/2024 when you were slowing down to stop at a dry cleaners. You applied the brakes fully but couldn't stop the car, and it collided with a nearby van. A Toyota-sent engineer inspected the vehicle but found no issue, though you haven't driven it since due to safety concerns. The repair will likely involve a thorough diagnostic of the throttle control system, fuel injection, and brake components to identify what caused the unintended acceleration.

Electrical System,vehicle Speed Control,service Brakes →1 issue
You've noticed multiple concerning issues with your vehicle including a missing VSC fuse block in the engine bay, repeated antifreeze and radiator hose leaks, your seat moving on its own while driving, a gas smell coming from the vents after hearing a clicking sound, and signs of tampering with alignment bolts and new electrical wiring. You believe these issues may be the result of intentional tampering rather than normal vehicle malfunction. Addressing these problems will likely require a full electrical system inspection, cooling system repair, and professional evaluation of the alignment and brake system components.

Service Brakes,fuel/propulsion System →1 issue
Your car has experienced unexpected acceleration problems on and off over the past 5 years, and it's gotten worse recently. Toyota says they completed one recall in 2010 for this issue, but you've discovered there were actually two separate recalls for similar acceleration problems, and you don't know if both were done. Toyota has refused to fix the ongoing problem since they believe the first recall already addressed it. You're concerned that the first recall may not have fully resolved the issue for both problems.

Service Brakes →1 issue
Your ABS and VSC warning lights have been flashing on and off for years, but recently both lights stayed on with a "Check VSC System" message and a loud buzzing noise. When you brake, the pedal pulses and feels very hard, and your car takes much longer to stop than normal—creating a safety risk. An independent mechanic confirmed your ABS system has failed, and Toyota apparently issued recalls for this issue, but you didn't receive the notices and the dealer refused warranty coverage claiming the recalls expired.

Service Brakes,fuel/propulsion System,forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Multiple warning lights are constantly turning on in your vehicle, including the brake light, ABS, and VCS system warnings, even after the codes have been read and reset multiple times. The ABS system is making braking difficult, and you're experiencing error codes related to the catalytic converter. Additionally, your driver's side mirror visor has stopped working and falls down on its own, blocking your view while driving.

Electrical System,seat Belts,unknown Or Other →1 issue
Your driver's seat belt occasionally gets stuck or fails to click into place. Additionally, your driver's side window control panel began smoking and emitting burnt plastic smell for about 5 minutes, with heat coming from the entire door panel. This suggests an electrical component in the door panel may have overheated or burned out.

Electrical System →1 issue
You purchased a 2007 Toyota Camry and discovered after the sale that the actual mileage on the vehicle's title (291,510 miles) was significantly higher than what the odometer showed at purchase (144,000 miles). This indicates the odometer may have been tampered with or rolled back before you bought the car. You may want to consult with a lawyer or your state's consumer protection agency about odometer fraud, as this affects the true value and condition of your vehicle.

Engine And Engine Cooling →1 issue
Your check engine light is staying on, and you're seeing black smoke coming from your exhaust pipes. You've also noticed your engine is using much more oil than normal. A local mechanic checked it out but couldn't figure out what's causing these problems. The issue may involve your fuel injection system, spark plugs, or internal engine seals that need inspection or replacement.
Parts you may need:

Visibility/wiper →1 issue
Your dashboard reflects light off the windshield on the driver's side, creating a glare that blocks your view of the road ahead. You nearly hit another vehicle because you couldn't see it through this glare, only discovering the car was there when you shaded your eyes with your hand. The fix would likely involve treating or replacing the dashboard material to reduce its reflectivity, or applying an anti-glare coating to the windshield.
Parts you may need:

Exterior Lighting,engine →1 issue
Your car is consuming engine oil very quickly—you're having to add oil every 3 weeks despite regular oil changes from the dealer. The dealer mentioned a possible leak, but you don't see any oil spots where you park. Additionally, your headlights aren't bright even after replacing the bulbs or headlight assemblies. Fixing these issues will likely involve a mechanic inspecting for internal oil consumption, checking the headlight electrical system, and possibly replacing headlight components or wiring.
