WHEELS:LUGS/NUTS/BOLTS/STUDS

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2012-2021 RAM 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis, 4500 Cab Chassis, and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles. While driving at 60 mph, you experienced steering shudder and heard an abnormal popping sound, then noticed your front driver's side wheel wobbling. When you inspected it, you found two wheel studs had fractured. Your vehicle had previously been taken to the dealer for a recall repair, but they said the studs didn't need replacement and later told you the recall was marked complete for your vehicle. The repair will likely involve replacing the damaged wheel studs and inspecting the wheel assembly for additional damage.

While driving at 35-40 mph, your truck started shaking and wobbling severely. You pulled over and discovered that the outer rear wheel had completely separated from the vehicle, and the inner rear wheel had also separated and was pinching the axle, leaving it to support the truck's weight. The dealer identified that the wheel studs needed replacement under a recall (NHTSA Campaign 21V398000), but the wheel itself wasn't covered by warranty. Fixing this will require replacing the wheel studs and possibly the wheels and axle components.

Your wheels detached from your truck while driving at 30 mph, and you discovered nine broken wheel studs. There was no warning light to alert you before this happened. Even though a recall exists for this issue, your vehicle's VIN wasn't included in it. The fix will involve replacing the broken wheel studs and lug nuts.

After having a wheel recall repair performed at the dealer, your vehicle started vibrating at various speeds about 6,600 miles later, and you noticed the brake pedal also vibrating when pressed. Upon inspection, you found that all the lug nuts on every wheel were loose and not properly tightened. The dealer and manufacturer were notified but the vehicle hasn't been repaired yet.

DURING A TRIP ON AN IMPROVED HIGHWAY, THE FRONT END BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS HARD TO KEEP AHOLD OF AT 50 MPH. AT THIS TIME THE TRUCK HAD 17596 MILES ON IT. WHEN WE RETURNED HOME I CALLED MY DODGE DEALER, LANDERS MCLARTY TO EXPRESS MY CONCERN OF THE TRUCK PERFORMANCE. SUBSEQUENTLY I BROUGHT THE TRUCK IN FOR AN INSPECTION AND RESOLUTION OF THE PROBLEM. THE REPORT WAS THAT THE TIRES WERE CUPPED AND I NEEDED NEW TIRES. I FELT THAT THIS SHOULD BE TREATED AS DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND THAT THEY SHOULD COVER THE COST. THE TIRES ARE NEXON TIRES FROM S. KOREA. AT 17596 MILES THEY SHOULD NOT FAIL THAT SOON. I WAS TOLD BY THE GM THAT THEY HAVE TROUBLE WITH TIRES ON 'THIS KIND OF TRUCK AND THAT I GOT GOOD USAGE AT 1759 MILES. AM TAKING THE THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT TRUCK CENTER TO HAVE AN INSPECTION AND REMEDIATION F TIRES IF NEEDED. HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT 17596 MILES IS TOO SOON FOR TIRES TO FAIL. DODGE RAM DEALER, LANDERS MCLARTY REFUSES TO HONOR MY 10 YEAR WARRANTY DUE TO TIRE PROBLEM.

THE FRONT TIRES WEAR EXCESSIVELY ON THE OUTER EDGES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO FLETCHER DODGE 3 TIMES TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THEY HAVE SEEN BEFORE WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE. FLETCHER DODGE DID REPLACE THE 2 FRONT TIRES AND PERFORMED AN ALLIGNMENT. CHRYSLER SET UP A STAR ACCOUNT AND WORKED ON IT. CHRYSLER ACKNOWLEDGED THERE IS A PROBLEM BUT DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT IS AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO, AND IT IS CAUSED BE TOWING HEAVY LOADS. I DRIVE IT MOSTLY AND FROM WORK. I USE A 2 HORSE TRAILER ABOUT 4 TIMES A YEAR FOR APROXIMATELY 340 MILES AND HAY 3 TIMES A YEAR FOR APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES.
