Electrical System,fuel/propulsion System →5 issues
Your 2020 Nissan Leaf has a known battery defect that can cause a fire during DC fast charging (Level 3/CHAdeMO), and despite four recall notices since 2024, the manufacturer has only offered a temporary fix: you must avoid using fast charging entirely. This disables a key feature you paid for and makes the car harder to sell or use at work if fast charging is your only option. The manufacturer says a permanent solution is coming soon, but you've been waiting over a year with an unsafe vehicle.

Your Leaf's battery drops suddenly from under 30% to 0%, causing you to lose power while driving. When this happens, even if the battery recovers to 25%, the accelerator won't respond and the car won't move, which created a dangerous situation on the highway. This issue appears to be related to a battery defect that Nissan is still working on solving. The fix will likely involve battery diagnostics, software updates, or a battery replacement under recall.

Your 2020 Nissan Leaf has a known safety issue with the lithium-ion battery that Nissan recalled over a year ago, but the company hasn't provided an acceptable fix yet. This defect is limiting how you can use the vehicle and poses a potential fire risk. You should contact Nissan about the status of the recall repair for your specific vehicle.

Your 2020 Nissan Leaf is subject to a safety recall affecting the high-voltage battery. You've been instructed not to use Level 3 DC fast charging because the battery could overheat and potentially catch fire. Unfortunately, there is currently no fix available from Nissan, and no timeline has been given for when one might be released. This restriction significantly limits your ability to take longer trips that depend on DC fast charging.

Your 2020 Nissan Leaf's high-voltage battery has a known defect (Recall 25V655) where lithium deposits can build up inside battery cells, causing them to overheat during fast charging. Nissan's fix is only a software update that monitors for problems and disables the car if detected — it doesn't actually repair the defective battery cells themselves. You cannot use Level 3 fast charging until this is addressed, and your car could become stranded if the software detects the condition. The underlying battery defect remains unfixed, creating concerns about potential overheating and fire risk during fast charging.

Your Nissan Leaf's battery has a fire risk issue when using the quick-charge feature, which Nissan recalled in September 2024 but hasn't fixed as of March 2026. Without quick charging, your vehicle takes significantly longer to charge (all day versus one hour), severely limiting its usability. Nissan has only indicated a potential solution may come sometime in 2026, which leaves the safety issue unresolved.

Your Leaf's main traction battery can overheat during DC fast charging (Level 3), which creates a fire risk and causes electrical resistance from lithium deposits. This prevents you from using the advertised fast-charging feature and reduces your car's range and usability. Nissan issued a recall (R24B2, 24V-700) with a software-only fix, but owners report this doesn't address the underlying physical battery defect, and the remedy has not yet been made available over a year later. The fix will likely require a battery thermal management system update or battery replacement once Nissan develops and releases a complete remedy.

Your Nissan Leaf's battery indicator started jumping around unpredictably while driving, and even showed zero charge while you were on the highway. Your dealer confirmed the battery is failing and needs replacement under warranty, but after ordering it in early January, the part hasn't shipped as of March—leaving your car undriveable for over two months. Nissan hasn't given you a delivery date or timeline. The fix will require your dealer to install a new battery pack once it arrives.
