Component: STEERING:LINKAGES:TIE ROD ASSEMBLY
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Nissan Altima vehicles. The tie rod ball joint fastener was not tightened properly, which could result in the tie rod ball joint detaching from the steering knuckle.
Risk: A detached tie rod ball joint can cause a loss of steering control, and increase the risk of a crash.
Fix: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will tighten the left and right-side tie rod ball joint fasteners, or install new fasteners as necessary, free of charge. The began March 31, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7769. Nissan's number for this recall is PC795.
NHTSA Campaign: 21V169000
Component: TIRES
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Altima and 2018-2021 Titan vehicles equipped with Continental tires. On the affected vehicles, it is possible that one or more tires were cured for too long during tire production.
Risk: Over cured tires may develop a break in the sidewall, resulting in sudden air loss or belt edge separation which could lead to tread/belt loss. Either condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tires, and replace them as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 11, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is PC798.

Risk: Over cured tires can result in a sidewall break causing a sudden loss of air or the tread separating from the tire. Both conditions increase the risk of a crash.
Fix: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicle's tires to see if they are affected, replacing them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began December 10, 2020. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-8677669. Nissan's number for this recall is PC765.
NHTSA Campaign: 23V628000
Component: BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Altima and 2020-2021 Sentra vehicles. Damage to the camera harness can cause distortion or loss of the rearview camera display image. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Risk: A rearview camera that does not properly display an image can reduce the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.
Fix: Dealers will inspect the rearview camera and harness for damage and replace them as necessary. If no damage is found, the dealer will apply protective tape and reroute the rearview camera harness. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 19, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall is R23C3.

The engine bearings may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine failure.
Risk: Engine failure increases the risk of a crash. A bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block, allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.
Fix: Dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed February 2, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261 or Infiniti's customer service at 1-800-662-6200. Nissan's numbers for this recall are R25A8/A9 and R25B1/B2.
Owner-Reported Issues (20 of 165)
Electrical System →4 issues
Your car's door lock system may fail, preventing you from opening the driver's door from inside or outside. When you try to open a locked door, it may trigger the theft alarm at full volume. Additionally, your audio system may randomly jump to maximum volume or shut off completely. These electrical glitches could create safety concerns in an emergency situation and are frustrating during normal use. The fix will likely involve diagnosing and repairing the door lock actuator and audio control module.

Your car's door locks are not responding to the key fob or the interior lock button, and sometimes even the manual lock mechanism requires multiple attempts to work. This could be dangerous if you need to quickly enter or exit your vehicle in an emergency. The issue likely involves the door lock actuators or the electrical connections controlling them.

All four of your door lock actuators have stopped working, which means your doors won't lock properly. This problem started in 2024 with no warning lights to alert you, and your car was broken into because the doors couldn't be secured. Fixing this will likely involve replacing the faulty door lock actuators on all four doors.

Your driver's door lock isn't working automatically — it won't lock or unlock when you use the button or key fob. This means your door may stay unlocked when you think it's secured, forcing you to climb through the back seat to get in, which feels unsafe. The lock has been intermittent for about 18 months and now doesn't work at all. Fixing this will likely involve replacing the door lock actuator on the driver's side.

Engine →4 issues
While driving, your car displayed a warning message saying "engine malfunction power reduced service now" and your check engine light turned on. This indicates your engine's computer detected a problem and has reduced power to prevent damage. You should have the car scanned with a diagnostic tool to identify the specific issue as soon as possible.

Your 2020 Nissan Altima was subject to recall #R25B1, and your dealer identified an engine issue that appeared to require replacement. However, Nissan Corporate denied coverage, stating the problem didn't meet the recall's specific requirements and wasn't covered under your warranty. Despite photos and evidence sent by the dealer's mechanics, Nissan refused to proceed with the replacement, leaving you concerned about reliability for an upcoming long trip on a vehicle with only 32,000 miles.

Your engine has a gasket failure that requires a new engine, as confirmed by Pep Boys. You've been taking your car to the dealership frequently, but they initially said everything was fine despite the underlying issue.

Your engine has started showing overheating warning signs, even though you never ran the car in the hot zone. A dealer inspection revealed a cracked cylinder head, and the service advisor mentioned that several other customers recently experienced the same issue. You were told your car isn't covered by the related recall, but you believe the problem warrants further investigation since you didn't operate the engine improperly. Fixing a cracked cylinder head typically requires removing the engine head and either replacing it or having it professionally repaired.

Unknown Or Other →2 issues
Your backup camera display on the radio screen freezes occasionally when backing up and has gone completely black while reversing. Additionally, your driver's door frequently fails to fully unlatch, opening only partway and trapping you inside the vehicle. Locking, unlocking, restarting the car, and using the outside handle haven't resolved the issue—you've had to exit through the passenger door and wait several minutes for the door to finally open properly. This appears to be an electrical or door latch mechanism failure that requires diagnostic inspection of both the camera system and door lock assembly.

Your door lock actuators aren't working properly, which has locked your keys inside the car and left your driver's side and both back doors unable to lock securely—they can open accidentally while driving. You discovered the problem when you were able to open the back driver's side door without using your key fob, and subsequently the back passenger side door lock also failed. Your Nissan dealer has confirmed there's an issue. Fixing this will likely require replacing the faulty door lock actuator(s) on the affected doors.

Air Bags →2 issues
Your driver's side knee airbag cover has white powder on it, which may indicate a defective airbag. You've also experienced throat and nose irritation that you suspect is from inhaling the powder. A second Nissan dealership confirmed this is dangerous and replaced the defective airbag. The airbag may not deploy properly in a crash or could deploy unexpectedly.

Your 2020 Nissan Altima was hit from behind at approximately 50 mph in a 3-car collision, which pushed your car into the vehicle ahead of it. The vehicle was totaled, but none of the airbags deployed during the impact. The airbag system may need inspection or replacement of the airbag control module and sensors.

Power Train →2 issues
Your check engine light came on and won't turn off even after restarting the engine multiple times. Two repair shops diagnosed a failed camshaft and quoted repairs between $6,000 and $9,000, despite your car having only 42,000 miles. Nissan denied your warranty claim because your vehicle was 10 months past the time-based warranty expiration, even though it was still under the mileage limit. Fixing this issue will require replacing the camshaft, which is a major engine component.

Your car jerks while driving and hesitates when accelerating from a stop, sometimes losing power entirely. You hear a whining sound that seems to come from the transmission area, and the engine RPMs rev up unexpectedly. This is a safety concern because the sudden power loss could catch you off guard while driving.

Engine And Engine Cooling →1 issue
Your engine stalled while driving on the expressway at 55 MPH with no warning light. When you restarted it, the engine knocked loudly and the dealer found smoke coming from the engine, determining it needed replacement. This may be related to a known manufacturer issue with your model year's engine.

Unknown Or Other,engine →1 issue
During a recall inspection at your Nissan dealership, metal debris was discovered inside your engine. Nissan declined to replace the engine because they said the debris didn't meet the recall criteria, and the dealership plans to simply remove the debris instead. You're concerned that clearing debris without addressing the root cause leaves your vehicle unsafe, especially before a 1,000-mile trip. This issue may require an engine inspection by a qualified mechanic or a second opinion to determine if more extensive repairs are needed.

Service Brakes, forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Your car's automatic emergency braking (AEB) system has activated unexpectedly multiple times over the past 5 years, even though Nissan found no issues when you took it in. On two occasions this year, your car made a complete stop on the highway without warning, and it took about a minute before you could drive again—nearly causing a collision with other traffic. The problem persists despite having no active recalls. A fix would likely involve diagnosing the AEB sensor system and updating or replacing faulty components in the forward collision avoidance system.

Electrical System, unknown Or Other →1 issue
Three of your four door locks won't respond to your key fob — you have to unlock them by hand instead. This appears to be a common electrical issue affecting 2019-2020 Nissan Altimas, likely caused by faulty door lock motors or wiring problems. The fix will probably involve replacing the faulty door lock actuator motors or repairing the electrical connections to those doors.
